Indeed you can go south, but it'll add 600 miles to the journey.  And,
there are as many mountains that
way as there are if you go east out of Salt Lake.  The weather here is
still good for another month or
so.  Storms come and go, but by and large they blow right on by.  And, you
could pick up some great tail
winds through Wyoming.  Turn south at Laramie, and get down into the
warmer climes.  You can angle down
and across Colorado, and into Kansas.
