Last time I had my hands on some was in 1973, but they should be much
better than a closed-off internal fan for thermally connecting hot chips
in the middle of the PCB to a finned enclosure. A fan can still be used
to move air over the external fins.

OK, they're more awkward to work with, unless close to the right length,
and there's nothing in the way. (But it can't be a lot worse than RF
plumbing, can it? ;-)
