I think if you were to talk to them and say you were going to inspect a machine in state xx, and if it looked good, you would want to wire transfer up to $xxxx to a Mr. XXX there, they would be OK with you making the final details of amount and his bank account details over the phone. You would probably have to make sure the person you spoke with at your bank would be in the office when you made the call.
In general, these things can be done fairly quickly within the US, he'd just have to call his bank and verify the money was in his account. Also, there is PayPal.
