If by this statement you mean connecting the stereo's speaker outputs to your Mac's line-in, DON'T DO IT! :) However, I'm assuming you'll use your stereo's line-out/tape-out/monitor-out jacks which provide a standard 'line level' for safely connecting to the Mac's line-in. Using the relatively high-powered speaker output can damage line-in circuitry. Even if you are careful about the volume levels applied, there is an impedance mismatch which can affect the quality of your recording. Still, it's too dangerous in my book.
