That's great that it eliminates the need for an amp or a pre-amp, but my way
(connecting to the line-out jacks on an amp) only cost $3 for the Y-adapter
cable from Radio Shack to the mic input of the iMac, and works great.  I
thought about getting an iMic, but couldn't see spending that much money on
something that wasn't really necessary.  In my case, the receiver I'm using
occupies the same amount of desk space, and the turntable fits neatly on top
of the receiver, using the same amount of real estate that the turntable
alone takes up.  Of course it's twice as high, but saving $35-40 is worth it
to me.
