Right.  Other examples:

You may have a union representative regardless of your views on that
reprentative or even the union.  Both the representative and the union
itself represent you.

A survey may be taken of the population for scientific, political, or
commercial purposes.  In that case a random sample is taken as
representative of the whole population, rather than of individuals.
