Deodorants Yesterday in the Levy Letter, I was saying about the number of teachers, who were complaining about one particular deodorant, which is used in classes now by all the male pupils, because theres an advert on the television, which says it will attract the girls. Being a teacher and a mother of teenage children, so says Sandra, I can confirm that they do tend to go over the top with these sprays. Mostly deodorants, sometimes hairspray and if they get in the car straight after P.E. then it can be quite strong. These things always make me sneeze. I cant use those types of sprays myself for that reason. It can be quite a hazard trying to drive with these sneezing fits. Sandra, thank you very much for that one. Sleep As you know this is something that I struggle with. At the moment, Im taking quite a few herbal remedies as well, but counting sheep in the wee small hours can be a lonely business, but as more of us have trouble dozing off, then it is fast becoming a national past time. A study has found that most Britons struggle to get a decent nights sleep. Only 19% enjoy the eight hours recommended for maximum refreshment. Just 19% - thats very low isnt it? Two thirds have terrible trouble falling asleep, but almost half of those in the South survive with less than five hours sleep every night. Experts believe that longer working hours are to blame for the sleep drain as employees stay at their desks longer into the night. Other people get into bed, but are disturbed by their partners snoring or by their noisy neighbours. Feeling drowsy during the day is not the only resulting problem. Doctors warn that sleep deprivation could increase the risk of diabetes, obesity and heart problem! s as well as leading to impaired memory or concentration. So there you are. Its staggering that only 19% of people are getting the required eight hours sleep! Your tips on getting a good nights sleep are always welcomed. Email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] Children If youve got children or teenagers then it says that a generation of young adults are growing up with no savings, no pension and huge debts. Financial watchdogs are warning that things could get worse. The regulators are saying that Britain is storing up huge problems for the future, because many young people fail to grasp the basic concepts of finance. I dont know about that, but there are some examples here. One in ten could not understand the basic bank statement, which said balance carried forward, £61. Four in ten have no pension and nearly a third, who did have a pension, had not put any money into it for five years! One in five didnt understand that a savings account, paying 3% interest, would not keep up with inflation of 5%. One in five thinks the cash ISA invests in shares. Its an individuals savings account. So there you are. Younger people have no idea what money is and how to save it apparently! Radio Times If you havent already seen it, the front page of the Radio Times has created quite a stir. Its just out and its a picture of Mike Baldwin on his death bed as the demise of thirty years on the ITV soap as Johnny Briggs. The front cover of this weeks Radio Times recreates the painting of the death of Nelson. The ashen faced Baldwin is surrounded by his nearest and dearest during his final moments and its very similar to the original 1807 painting by Arthur Devis. And at the side of Mike Baldwins death bed, ironically, with his right hand on his chest is Ken Baldwin, played of course by William Roach. Deal Or No Deal Since I mentioned it a few days back, about Noel Edmonds programme, Deal Or No Deal, Ive been inundated with people saying how much theyre enjoying the programme. Im glad that you do. Its been a huge success and its getting amazing ratings for the time of day that its on. Noel Edmonds has capped his TV comeback by gaining his first ever Bafta nomination! The Channel 4 quiz show has earned Edmonds a place in the best entertainment performance shortlist. So good luck for that one. Well, that's it from me for today.
