Weve got a busy programme tonight. Ill be speaking to the leader of the Tory party, David Cameron, as he visits Gainsborough and Lincoln today. Ill have the latest on Kingston Communications, one of the biggest companies in the country, on the back of a potential sale of the company, which has now fallen through. As Hull City Council owns one third of the company, Ill be looking at how this will affect the councils financial state as it misses out on an estimated £200 million. If youre a fan of planes, then well have something for you. A new squadron is being formed today in Lincolnshire. Well have a special report from RAF Cottesmore near Stamford. And my guest today is sixties icon, Gene Pitney. Hes got a huge fan base across the country and I know a lot of you were asking if we could get him on the programme. Beautiful Game Yes Ill be talking about football on the programme tonight at half past six, but I see that the beautiful game is more important to men than beautiful women. This is according to the results of recent research, which studied the level of commitment that fans devote to their team. Ill have to see if thats the case when Ill be talking to Adam Pearson tonight ahead of the derby of course between Hull and Leeds. Jet Lagged Well, if youre tired and if youre yawning all the time and not quite with it, then nearly half of the population are suffering from jet lag, because of long working days and lack of daylight, its been claimed today. The worst affected are smokers according to a study, which has found that we are surviving with nowhere near enough sleep. It reveals that 65% of us admit to having trouble sleeping and only a third have five hours slumber a night. Only 19% get the recommended eight hours! Thats the second time this week, weve talked about sleep. Not because its an issue with me, but because its been in the papers quite a lot this week. It seems to be the in-subject at the moment. Thanks to several people as well for advising me to put a few drops of lavender oil on the pillow. Ill be trying that one and Ill be keeping you posted. Tom Jones Thanks to two or three people as well, including Jean, who sent me a very long letter, asking if we could get Tom Jones on the programme. Tom is actually coming to sing not too far away in the next two or three months in Sheffield, at least I think thats where hes playing, but theres very little chance that Tom will talk to me on the programme, but well have a bash anyway! Theres a great picture of Tom Jones at the Palace from the day before yesterday and theres a picture of him in the paper going to collect his award from the Queen. Hes pictured with his son, whos called Mark. Mark is really quite grey, going almost totally grey, but Tom has got jet black hair well, how did that happen?? Last Night On the programme last night, we got talking about some of the things that incense people a little bit about what they can or cant do. It all comes from a story that people arent allowed to take their own kettles into work to make their own cups of tea. Well, I digress a little bit, but Wordsworth of course was so inspired by one, that he wrote a poem about it and for centuries the Yew tree has graced the British countryside, but now one local authority has got a very different view. Its ordered the removal of about one hundred trees from a nearby playground, because its feared that children could poison themselves by eating the leaves. Its not in our part of the world as its down in Bristol, but yet again its another one of those stories that has incensed everybody. We were also talking about graffiti earlier in the week and the guy, who runs his own business, was told, as graffiti was put on his wall outside his shop, then he has to clean it up himself, even though its nothing to do with him. If he doesnt, then he could face a fine. Ive had loads of emails on that one, so thank you for those. Airport This is probably the daftest story of the week and youve probably already seen it on the television or read it in the paper, but let me just tell you about it if you dont know anything about it. It appeared to be a fairly textbook landing, but the Airbus A320 came to a halt on the runway and was immediately surrounded by soldiers. It was then that the pilot realised that hed made one fundamental error and he had touched down in a military airbase after mistaking it for a passenger airport. Last night, Ryan Air bosses launched an investigation into the fiasco, which happened in broad daylight. The aircraft, with thirty-nine passengers and six crew on board, landed at Shackleton Barracks in Northern Ireland, five miles short of where it was supposed to be going to the City of Derry Airport. The mistake is all the more bewildering as the pilot was in constant radio contact with air traffic controllers and the conditions were clear, with only a few clouds in the sky. Soldiers! quickly realised that they werent under threat, boarded the plane and chatted with the passengers. But can you actually believe that a plane could land at the wrong airport when theyve got air traffic control to help them?? What a story! Thats it from me for today. Have a very good weekend.
