Well, weve learnt today that Lincolnshire gets a whopping twenty-one million visitors to the region, but despite the interest in the area there are only 162 hotels. This shortage of hotels is a concern for the local council as they fear business opportunities are being missed. Ill be looking at this in more detail later. And Ill be learning more about Lincoln Castle tonight. No, not the one with turrets and battlements, but an historic paddle steamer, which is being moved for the first time in twenty years for repairs. The Lincoln Castle used to operate as a car ferry between New Holland and Hull and it was Britain's last coal-fired paddle steamer to operate a scheduled service. You might recognise it now as a floating restaurant in Grimsby. Well, its off for repairs and refurbishment and Ill be finding out more on this later. I hope you can join me then. Emails Thanks for all the emails on a variety of subjects. We got talking about phobias on the programme the other night. Ive had lots of emails about those, including one here from Jill. She says, On the subject of phobias, I have the same two as you. I definitely know the snake one would be impossible to overcome. They are the things that absolutely terrify me and Im not that much better with the common garden worm! Jill goes on to say about sleeping and my ongoing problems with sleeping. She says, Im fifty and I have the same problem as well. My doctor in Essex was a great believer in homeopathic remedies. He gave me a prescription of some tablets, which are non-addictive and also have no side effects. These I got from a homeopathic pharmacist in London. If you want the catalogue, then you can buy them over the Internet. Thank you very much for that one Jill. Ive had emails on various subjects so thank you for those. Danny La Rue Hes one of the people, who has always been a big hit when he comes on Look North as a guest. He was in his height during the seventies and thats Danny La Rue. Im sad to see though that he has suffered a stroke and has cancelled all of his shows. Danny La Rue is now seventy-eight. I remember seeing him many times at the Batley Variety Club in Yorkshire back in the seventies. Anyway, hes not so well at the moment and is back at home recovering. So we wish Danny well. And many people have paid tributes, including Noel Coward, calling him the most professional, witty and utterly charming man in the business. Jimmy Tarbuck has said that if anyone can pull through this, then Dan can. He is a giant. 100% professional and a nice guy. It was about seven or eight years ago now, but Danny La Rue, even though hes been a big professional star for years and years, actually came up to Yorkshire and spent some time working with an amateur company production of La Cage aux Folles. For! an amateur group in Yorkshire to actually get the services of Danny La Rue is a great story and that really made me into a big fan of Danny. On the subject of show business, I see that Maureen Lipman, whos Hull born of course, is going to pop up on our screens in the programme, Doctor Who. Can you believe it? Shes going to be playing an alien baddie in the new series of Doctor Who! Most recently of course, she was in Coronation Street playing a snobby landlady, but she says that I do find Doctor Who quite frightening, but Im happy to be a baddie! So look out for Maureen Lipman in Doctor Who. Still on the subject of well-known names. David Davis no one could accuse David Davis, the MP for Haltemprice and Howden, of not doing his bit to get more women in the workplace. According to the paper, allegedly, the Shadow Home Secretary has recently hired five new members of staff at his Westminster office and they are all female. We like to call ourselves Davids Divas, said one of the women, but David doesnt call us that! So there you are. David Davis is the only man in the office apart from one male intern from Hull University. Hes a lucky chap isnt he? Do we know who he is? Does anyone know who he is? Anyway, theres some news from David Davis office according to the newspapers. Brides More than half of brides are now thirty or older according to new figures out today. The average age at which women marry has risen by more than three years in less than a decade. The figures show that women typically wed at thirty years and seven months. The highest age on record in 1993 was with the average age at twenty-seven and two months. So there you are. Women are getting older before they get married. Left Handed Im not sure how theyve worked this one out, but in a right handed world, being left handed has always been somewhat of a disadvantage, but not any more. Left handed men earn around 5% more per hour according to a new study. I dont know how theyve worked this out, but apparently men, who are left handed earn more money! Left handed people include Prince William, Sir Paul McCartney, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein and also Julius Caesar. Well, thats it from me for today.
