The vast majority of Americans who think of themselves as socialists of any sort have a very smudged notion of what it means. That is, they view it as some future goal and rarely imagine it in terms of class power. Nevertheless, these issues are in flux and we should be happy to work with whatever we can get in this regard. In terms of voting, the vast majority cast Democratic ballots. Casting them for candidates who also identify with some kind of socialism is very preferable than for those that don't.
We should be pleased that Democratic politicians issued that statement. We should also be pleased to see Republicans expressing support for that statement. The appearance of the demonstrations in March and the direct actions against ICE which are related to them has created the dynamic tat has gotten us to this point.
