Just before he died I happened to be visiting with Harry Magdoff --- and he said to me that he wished there was a concerted effort by socialists to actually come up with real descriptions of what socialism would "REALLY LOOK LIKE" ---
Among the people I know about, both Gar Alperovitz and Rick Woolf have devoted a lot of attention (decades) to describing ways that elements of socialism are appearing within the cracks in the system of "late capitalism" -- I myself just had a nice experience talking to a group of undergraduates at the University I had worked at (Western New England University in SPringfield, MA) about "what a democratic socialism in the US would look like": ---- basically a very brief and cursory description of how moving democracy (real democracy) to the workplace and localities so as to DEMOCRATIZE the entire economy --- thus going way beyond the American version of social democracy propounded by Bernie, et al --- Obviously it was very cursory and thin but it seems to me that's what we need to do --- we need to remind people that as (some of us) promote miniscule reforms to American capitalism we actually have VISIONS of what a real socialist future might look like -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
