[16] Ex massive says 'Best the Best'

Rodney Marsh upsets the Ruptured Duck fan club at Maine Road by stating the Belfast
boy was:

"the greatest footballer who ever played the game"

"He was the quickest, the strongest, he could tackle, he could shoot with both feet,
he could pass, he could head, he was brave, he had a great engine and he scored
millions of goals."

Oh, and he could pull women as well

[15] More Arthur on Fletcher
---------------------------------
Posted Monday, June 25, 2001 by tb:
"It is in terms of skill that Fletcher is something else. Even before he arrived at
United he had been playing for Scotland Under-16s for two years, which is almost
unheard of."

"Every top club in Britain wanted him. For my money he is the most talented young
midfielder in Britain and providing he develops a little more physically he will prove
it. The bonus for Fletcher is that when he does come through this season, and he
will, he will be finishing his education in one of the world's toughest leagues. I
would also expect to see him take some part in Champions League games. Again, that
will add to his experience.

I know Craig Brown already has him earmarked for his squad and if Darren progresses
like I believe he will the Scotland coach will have no choice but to bring him in."

[14] Arthur Albiston on Fletcher & Stewart

Posted Monday, June 25, 2001 by tb:
"Darren has fantastic vision and a genuinely wonderful touch with either foot. In
many ways he is just like Hoddle, who could pick out a man with effortless ease.
Darren can do the same and do it under pressure. He sees all of the pitch. He's
elegant and tall but doesn't allow himself to be pressurised by physical contact."

"Had it not been for his injury last season we'd have seen him in the team just as
we've seen Michael Stewart, who comes from the same part of Edinburgh as me, breaking
through. Michael has tremendous potential, too.

He's a digger and a battler, a box-to-box player who seems to thrive when it gets
physical. He, too, is going to become a big star for United and Scotland."

[13] Petit is ours

Say the Rent Boys, and they have paperwork to prove it apparently:

RB Chief Exec Hutchinson:

"We've got a signed contract with Barcelona and with Petit. To cover ourselves, we
lodged copies of these pre-contracts with the FA and the FA Premier League two weeks
ago. We have got an agreement which kicks in on July 1 when we fully expect him to be
a Chelsea player."

Oh well, never mind!

[11] Eric gets the beers in

>From "Spacegirl" on the RED NEWS Forum (from the top menu click on "Red Talk" and

I've just spent three glorious days in the sunshine, drinking free beer, WATCHING ERIC
playing beach football. Obviously in his element, able to show off and recognising his
fans - he was given a crate of beer for being the "most valuable player in the
tournament" and he promptly walked over to a bunch of United lads in the stand and
passed the beer up to them. The security guys were not pleased as they didn't want
anyone drinking beer in the stand and they certainly didn't want anything drunk from
glass bottles - but, as one was heard to say "Its Eric Cantona - you try telling him".

[10] Copenhagen want Robbo or Schmikes

(link:http://www.teamtalk.com) teamtalk reports:

FC Copenhagen president Peter Norvig wants former Middlesbrough boss Bryan Robson to
replace Roy Hodgson as coach at the Danish champions.

Norvig said: "He (Robson) should be the ideal coach. We need someone really popular
for our bench. It's not an easy choice."

Schmikes, is also a candidate for the job but he is thought to want a break from the
game after quitting Sporting Lisbon and turning down a similar offer from his old club
Brondby.

[9] Yet more Petit
---------------------------------
Posted Monday, June 25, 2001 by redend:
(link:http://www.teamtalk.com) teamtalk.com report that Chelsea reckon they've tied up
the Petit deal - managing director Colin Hutchinson said: "Our position is quite
clear. We've got a signed contract with Barcelona and with Petit. To cover ourselves,
we lodged copies of these pre-contracts with the FA and the FA Premier League two
weeks ago."

"We have got an agreement which kicks in on July 1 when we fully expect him to be a
Chelsea player."

But from our impeccable sources in France:

Emmanuel Petit has denied he has signed anything with Chelsea, so Hutchinson's claims
that the deal is done seem premature.

He will speak about his future on Tuesday.

Sorry about the cheese in the head-line (as Dwight might say)

More rumours coming from Italy:

According to sources close to Lazio president Sergio Cragnotti, a deal with Manchester
United for Juan Sebastian Veron is very close. United are supposed to have made a $39
million offer which Lazio have accepted but to finalize the deal, the two clubs have
to wait for the final decision of the Disciplinary commission because if Veron is
banned for a couple of years, the deal will fail.

Are we any the wiser then?

[7] Cream to tackle Viagra's grip
---------------------------------
Posted Monday, June 25, 2001 by redend:
....or lets see how many double entendre's and inuendos we can inject into this story
to give you a bit of light relief.

A medical firm is looking for a hand to raise funds for a proposed anti-impotence
treatment and is hoping to stimulate interest in the City. The proceeds from the move
will be used to develop its only product so far, a rub-on cream for the treatment of
erectile dysfunction.

Surrey-based Futura described the product as a "non-invasive and safe alternative" to
current oral and injectable therapies.

James Barder, Futura chief executive, said: "We have had a lot of interest from the
City already" [I'm not surprised with all those "Merchant Bankers."].

[Rumours that the cream (which will probably cost at least 100 quid a tube -
kerchiiiiing) is actually just mayonnaise and works by the Placebo effect were
compounded on reading the instructions for use. Cream must be applied extremely
vigorously (using 2 hands in harder cases) to the treatment area, by an enthusiastic,
nubile young lady, until satisfactory results are achieved.]

[6] Now Vieira starts smacking his own Arse....

Vieira opens fire on Gunners

Vieira told The Sun: "People should know this is nothing to do with money. I need to
leave because I want to win more trophies and I just cannot see that happening at
Arsenal. Certainly not over the next few years, anyway. Comparing Arsenal to the big
clubs in Europe this season is going to be quite ridiculous. I do not honestly see
Arsenal finishing in the top five in the league - and you can forget the Champions
League."

And he thinks the latest Arse signings are a bag of shite too:

"When I told Arsene Wenger I was leaving, he said to me 'I have £25million to spend on
a few players'. My answer was 'Obviously, Mr Wenger, you are not shopping in Harrods.
That will only buy you one good player.' Now I have been proved right."

"Arsene Wenger has signed two 'hopeful' players who haven't proved themselves in the
Premiership yet. One of them is a boy of 20.[A veteran according to O'Leary?]. You
can't compete with the best clubs in Europe by making these kind of signings." [ Too
right - you'll win nothing with Kids - as they say]

"Arsene Wenger is an ambitious manager and he knows deep in his heart that he needs
five world-class players to compete among the best in Europe. With £25million in the
kitty, Arsenal is not a great European club. With that budget they won't even be among
the top 20 clubs in Europe." [I think we can all agree on the last bit - regardless of
the budget.]

[5] Veron saga latest
---------------------------------
Posted Monday, June 25, 2001 by steaming:
Sources in Italy report:

During this week, the Disciplinary commission should come up with a final decision
for Veron in the passport scandal.

The decision will probably come in the middle of this week, but rumours are already
saying that Lazio and Veron could get away from it with only a fine. The reason is
that Veron's passport was not false, like the other players involved, and that only
one of the documents used was false. [Can happen to the best of us - especially when
applying for European Cup Final tickets - you know who you are.]

The News of the World report that Fergie has been granted permission by Barcelona to
approach Petit. And he's also been promised Vieira will fight Arsenal in the European
Court to break free from his Highbury contract.

The Rent Boy's thought they had Petit in the bag but a Barca spokesman confirmed
Fergie could make them eat pillow on this one.

According to the NOTW : The (Barca) spokesman said "United have contacted us, we have
given them permission to speak to Emmanuel and they are the favourites to sign him."

[1] Safe Standing is coming
---------------------------------
Posted Monday, June 25, 2001 by steaming:
The Safe Standing bandwagon is gathering speed and nothing is going to stop this.

Now the FSA have officially joined the campaign at a meeting in Northampton which was
also attended by several IMUSA member. this is how the Sunday Mirror reported it:

"The Football Supporters' Association backed the call for the return of small, secure
terracing sections at top-flight clubs during their annual conference yesterday at
Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium.

Next season Fulham have been allowed to use standing areas at their Craven Cottage
ground and the FSA believe standing areas could safely be adopted at other top-flight
stadia.

The National Federation of Football Supporters' Clubs recently backed a similar motion
at their annual conference and (The Sunday Mirror's) Fanzone's Survey 2001 showed 75
per cent of all fans backed standing areas.
