I can assure you that I did do that many times. Every time the program indicated that there was nothing to delete (Delete option was greyed). Given that there are no `components' on Mechanical Layer 1 and that this has shown to be the culprit I have been unable to determine what `it' was. I will, as previously suggested, try removing all the other layers and see if something remains that can be locked on.

The most reliable way to remove those items (in P99SE and I assume AD would be similar) has always been to Select All, then Deselect Inside (cursoring around your items that are within view), then delete (Shift-Delete). In this manner it is selecting everything in the database (typically regardless of whether it is off-screen), then deselecting anything bounded by the cursored rectangle, then deleting everything that was not deselected (should be the item(s) that had any objects out of the workspace). Moving the board to a higher part of the screen results in the `empty' region at the bottom increasing. Rotating it simply confirmed that `something' was out there. I tried turning on all comments and designators but still nothing showed up. I eventually fixed the problem by deleting Mechanical Layer 1 (which originally had a couple of boundary markers so that I could easily see where the analog and digital grounds were). I haven't been able to `find' what it was on that layer because even with everything that I had put on there (and that was only lines) deleted, the problem still persisted. Delete the layer and it went away. Thanks to you all for your feedback. If I ever find the culprit I will let the group know.
