My second, trichotomic ordering is based on the idea that it is one thing to 
know what is good and another to act accordingly, i.e. to realize what is 
known.

I look at the trichotomies as ternairy plots enabling a person to assess some 
phenomenon/entity by a score in the trikon indicating a mixture. Shells 
polluting behavior in Nigeria would score low on ethics. The lack of dependency 
might very well result from the involvement of the triadic relation between the 
normative dimensions esthetics, ethics, logic.
