My point was that the categories are not what is "acting" in either case. Again, they simply identify the irreducible elements of whatever is or could be present to the mind. For example, when we perceive or imagine a process of mediation (3ns), we can prescind the reactions (2ns) that are involved in that process, and further prescind the qualities (1ns) that are involved in those reactions.
