You cited Peirce: "the purest conceptions of them" are phenomenological--namely, "quality, reaction, and mediation" (CP 1.530, 1903; cf. CP 4.3, 1898) -- Re-action suggests an action, and mediation suggests a mediating act. Best, Auke van Breemen
