I think it will still be read in, but will be added to what you used to call
Band. This means you can't easily write an action to sort it out in the new
version of the software, as you don't want all Band tags to be copied to TXXX
ALBUM ARTIST.
Your best bet is to move the TXXX ALBUMARTIST into TXXX ALBUM ARTIST using the
previous version of Mp3Tag, and then upgrade it:
1. install the previous version of Mp3Tag
2. filter all songs with a TXXX ALBUMARTIST tag
3. move the tag value into TXXX ALBUM ARTIST by creating an action:
Format Value, ALBUM ARTIST, ALBUMARTIST
Remove Fields: ALBUMARTIST
4. Install new version of Mp3Tag
I don't think it can be automated in the new version, as it would read the TXXX
ALBUMARTIST and join it onto any TPE2 (BAND) data values that you already have.

I think it's a bad idea to do it in a minor point release, without much
warning. i.e. after installation of the point release, it would tell you that
the tags are interpretted in a different way, without telling you how to
restore normality, and without a way of recovering information that may be in
your previously stored tags.
A better way of doing radical changes to software would be to persist users
previous configuration, with an option in the installation or in the prefs to
change to the new default config. New users could get the new defaults, if
that is deemed the most useful scenario. I don't think it is, but users with
less knowledge and inferior software may disagree ;-)
