Ray we can tailor a hosting deal to suit you however you like. I've
got several low-to middle range deals listed on my site at
http://afpwebworks.com but we can work out a deal to suit any size
bandwidth/space requirement.

Let's talk off-line about the specifics of your needs.

Re: OT: subversion

2005-08-24 Thread Barney Boisvert
I think you just want to have the Subversion repository publicly
accessible with an anonymous account set up that only has read-only
access, right? Commit access would still require authentication via
whatever means you have in place. Highly recommend using the Apache
WebDAV plugin for that, since it lets you do all the authentication
with Apache, rather than Subversion, and Apache supports all kinds of
things, including client certificates and HTTPS for free.

And since Subversion lets you easily have multiple repositories within
a single tree, it's a snap to have run a few different repositories
and use them all at once. One for your public stuff, one for private
stuff, one for client work, etc. The only thing to watch out for is
projects that share resources, because Subversion has some limitations
with crossing repository boundaries in certain cases (copies, for
example).

Re: cheap [reliable] cf hosting?

2005-08-24 Thread Matthew Blatchley
I was just going through a similar search today for a client. We were on
the look out for a dedicated CF box

CFDynamics.com $189/month with CF,MSSQL, and Email...no backup bandwidth was
200GB of transfer
Crystaltech.com had $79.95/month with MSSQL, Email and 250BG bandwidth (NO
CF built in)
Enterhost.com was $150/month with only 100GB transfer with MSSQL, Email (NO
CF built in)
HiVelocity.net was 1000GB bandwidth...then SQL was 199/month on top of that.
Called and no response at all...I crossed that one off the listdidn't
have time wait then, certainly won't have time to wait later.
Then there was Hostmysite.com, who never seems to negoiatebut after a
while I got them down to 189.00/month with 89.00/month on top for CFMX with
500GB/monthly transfer if that's even good :(
CFXhosting.com was 179/month with no CF and only 40GB transfer...
None of them had exatly what we needed except for CFDyanamics...hope that
helps a little...

Do you mean you actually want someone else (who has subversion installed) to
have a mirror of your repo or are just simply trying to give others the
ability to checkout projects? If that latter... just use svn://ipaddress in
a repo browser to checkout projects ( I cant recommend TortoiseSVN highly
enough.)

As for the stdout, you can avoid all the beeping and weird characters (and
probably get something that makes much more sense) if you pipe it to a file
when you run it

okay... it's late... I'm tired and frustrated... and we're in the
midst of a major rollout at my day job...

Someone on cf-talk or cf-community recently commented about
Subversion, saying that it seemed to be a growing trend for OS
projects to distribute their subversion repository info so that people
who download the code can get all the revisions in a nice package with
lots of controls.

So I've finally got Subversion working, and I've finally got all my
projects set up with batch files to export and archive the latest
version...

What I can't find is any mention of people actually making their
repositories available to other people. or how that happens.

The svnadmin dump command suggested in the documentation writes to
"stdout" but doesn't say anything about how to make that useful in any
way... If I execute that from a dos prompt, I get several minutes of
scrolling text and beeping, rather than a file.

What am I missing? How are people making this info available? Do I
just zip up the repository?

I had hoped there might be a way I could actually isolate an
individual project within the repository and export the information
for just that project to be packaged and distributed in addition to
the source, so that someone downloading the SVN data could download
just the data for the projects their interested in, but that doesn't
look possible either...

This is _REALLY_ frustrating.

I'm also just getting going with Subversion, and I highly recommend "Pragmatic
Version Control Using Subversion" by Mike Mason. It's not an end all book, but
I found it really got me up and going with Subversion.

I too am in the process of making some repositories available, but I'm still
working on how I want to handle permissions with Windows 2003 & Apache. I'm new
to Apache, and would like to have user authentication for accessing
repositories with read only rights. I've been able to lock down the repository
with full rights, but have not figured out how to read only. I have thought
about using Windows authentication, but not sure that is most elegant solution.

I don't know enough about Subversion to answer your questions on how to use
it, but whenever you have any program that writes to STDOUT, it'll display
its output when you run it as you describe. It's up to you to capture STDOUT
and pipe it to a file. In a Windows command shell, you can do that using ">"
like so:

myprogram.exe > file.txt

If you're using Windows, and you're more comfortable administering IIS, I'd
recommend that you use IIS. IIS 6 might perform a little better than Apache,
since IIS 6 relies on a low-level system service (HTTP.SYS) for serving
static files, but you're not likely to see any meaningful difference,
especially if you're using CF to do most of the heavy lifting.

RE: IIS 6 VS Apache

2005-08-24 Thread Dave Watts
> Well we won't be doing much administering beyond the initial
> setup. I am looking more in terms of stability, performance,
> security and features.

Honestly, if you're not going to change things much, it doesn't really
matter. Any web server will perform acceptably - I could install WinHTTPD on
a Windows 3.1 machine and it could saturate the bandwidth of a T1. If you're
using CF heavily, the web server performance will be largely irrelevant
anyway.

Apache is certainly more secure by default than IIS 5 on Windows 2000. IIS 6
on Windows Server 2003 is pretty secure by default, however.

Both should be stable enough. Again, if you're using CF heavily, you're much
more likely to have stability problems with that than with any web server.

Both have lots of features, although each has features that the other
doesn't. For example, IIS is scriptable, which is kind of nice if you have
lots of virtual servers and directories to manage. On the other hand, most
non-default Apache functionality is free, while you might have to pay a few
bucks for non-default IIS functionaltiy.

I would expect that most people would find IIS easier to administer, since
it has a GUI. I find working with Apache's httpd.conf file a bit annoying,
since it's not really structured or organized especially well, but once you
know where everything is it's easy enough to work with.

You can add mod_rewrite style functionality using third-party tools like
ISAPI Rewrite. IIS supports compression for static documents (and
ASP/ASP.NET I think, but I'm not sure about that). Access control is fully
integrated with the OS, which is something you can't do with Apache since
Apache doesn't perform OS impersonation. This last item is a big deal on a
lot of intranets.

implemented" error when I tried to use the getColumns() method. So I guess that
method isn't supported for MS Access.

I guess I will look into the CFMX7 Administrator API. I am trying to work on a
solution that woould work for CFMX 6.1 and above and the API doesn't look
promising for this problem at a glance.

so... If anyone has any more thoughts I would be grateful. As, indeed, am I for
all of the thoughts thus far.

Thanks!

Independent. I don't even have the two CF ODBC services running on my
production servers. Figure JDBC is the native way to connect and ODBC
introduces another layer into your processing. Its less efficient. So much
so its not recommended for a production environment IIRC.

Frankly, I never tested. I'm pretty happy with ODBC, even under CFMX.
But aren't JDBC just a bridge to ODBC or are they completely independant?

Re: Stupid custom tag question

2005-08-24 Thread Barney Boisvert
Thanks for that, Dan, but I'd actually mistyped. I wanted the closing
tag to still execute, just skipping the body. Not surprisingly, I was
also writing a caching tag, the difference being that the cached
content were generated Flash movies, so the "output" operation (which
takes place in the close tag) is rather cumbersome and I didn't really
want to UDF it so I could call it in both starting and ending tags.

However, I ended up doing exactly that, and it'll work. Just seems
like a bit of a language shortcoming to me. In psuedo-code:

RE: CFC forms and error handling

2005-08-24 Thread Dawson, Michael
Well, there are a few different types of errors:
1. Syntactic: User enters a letter when a number is required.
2. Semantic: User enters a value that doesn't make sense in relation to
another value
3. System: The database server could not be contacted.

In most cases, I use a self-posting form. That way, I can easily
re-fill the form fields in case an error occurs.

For syntactic errors, most likely, you will just re-load the form and
display an error.

Semantic errors are probably handled the same way, in general.

If there is a problem with the database connection, or any other
"critical" problem, you may as well just display an error page, then
send an email to the administrator.

If you haven't already, you should look through the CFC mailing list
archives a cfczone.org. There are oodles and scads of posts regarding
just this topic.

Subject: CFC forms and error handling

Hi, all.

I've checked the forums for similar posts, but I've not found a clear
answer. So, this may be a bit of a repeat.

I've got a simple CFC consisting of four files: form.cfm,
formAction.cfm, testCFC.cfc, show.cfm.

In formAction.cfm, I wrap the in a to catch any
database errors:

ERROR!

I purposely cause an error by trying to insert a string value into an
integer field.

Question: once I catch the error, how do I get the user back to the form
and populate the form fields with what the user has already typed in?

One post recommended putting all the form fields in the session scope,
then populating the form with session variables. But, that seems very
cumbersome.

Thanks for the help,

Cameron

In Oracle, a view is nothing but a stored select statement. Tables
store data, views do not (unless they are materilized views). So, you
do not index views, but you index the tables that the views select
from.

RE: SQL/Oracle Indexing a temporary view.

2005-08-24 Thread Adrian Lynch
Good question! I was just reading about it today while studying for MS's
70-229 exam, so here goes nothing...

Taking an example from the book:

CREATE VIEW MyView WITH SCHEMABINDING AS
SELECT MyColumn, MyOtherColumn
FROM dbo.MyTable
WHERE MyColumn = 'Some Value'

Some notes on creating indexed views:
- The view must specify SCHEMABINDING
- You must use owner.object syntax
- You can't use * (ALL)
- You can't have derived tables
- No UNION, OUTTER JOIN, sub queries or self joins
- No TOP or ORDER BY
- No COUNT(*), instead use COUNT_BIG(*), although I'm not sure if it's the
use of the * or COUNT() that's the problem
- No aggregate functions AVG, MAX, MIN
- The following need also be true:
- NUMERIC_ROUNDABORT set to OFF
- ANSI_NULLS set to ON
- ANSI_PADDING set to ON
- ARITHABORT set to ON
- CONCAT_NULL_YIELDS_NULL set to ON
- QUOTED_IDENTIFIER set to ON
- The first index created on the view must be unique clustered
- There after non-clustered can be added
- Removing the clustered index will remove the non-clustered indexes

Then to create the index:

CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX MyClusteredIndex ON MyView (MyColumn, MyOtherColumn)

Now how's that for simplicity?!

Probably of no help to you but it's revision for me :OD

Can you share what that SQL might look like, under the hope that Oracle may
use the same syntax. Not a large hope, but hope none the less.

I looked up the Oracle (8i) CREATE INDEX documentation and quickly got very
lost on all the variations and convolutions.

I had problems getting it to work with Access originally... and then
someone posted a comment on the article on the sys-con site with a
fix, which turned out to be hideously simple... I had been passing
username/password to connect to the db, and with Access you just omit
those arguments... What threw me was that it appeared according to the
JDBC docs that the un/pw arguments were required, so it never occurred
to me to simply omit them.

The JDBC method in the article will give you all of these as well. :)

I suspect that on CF7 there is a better way to fetch the JDBC
connection using the CF Admin API rather than using the
serviceFactory, but I haven't gotten around to investigating that yet.

RE: SQL/Oracle Indexing a temporary view.

2005-08-24 Thread Adrian Lynch
It's possible in SQL Server, you can create a clustered index on a view and
then non-clustered indexes(the clustered index is a must for the
non-clustered to be added). Not sure about Oracle though.

I thought it might be of some help to know it's possible on at least one DB
server.

I am creating a view with the following syntax. It takes between 1/20th and
1/10th of a second on average to create a view of a few thousand records.

CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW CREATED AS (
  SELECT
  ...

I then use this view in a fairly complex query to turn values in various
rows into columns.

SELECT DISTINCT
  D_VST_DATE AS aDATE,
  N_LOC_AREA AS AREA,
  ( SELECT
 SUM(TOTAL_RECORDS)
 FROM
   CREATED FOO
 WHERE
   FOO.D_VST_DATE = T.D_VST_DATE AND

   FOO.D_DNT_CNTTYP = 'WB'
) AS WB, --This block repeated for three different D_DNT_CNTTYP values.
  ...
FROM
  CREATED T
  ...

This works but it is rather slow. Taking about thirty seconds to process
the above view of a few thousand records. I would think an index on the
D_VST_DATE and/or N_LOC_AREA fields in the view might speed this up a bit.

CFC forms and error handling

2005-08-24 Thread Cameron Johnson
Hi, all.

I've checked the forums for similar posts, but I've not found a clear answer.
So, this may be a bit of a repeat.

I've got a simple CFC consisting of four files: form.cfm, formAction.cfm,
testCFC.cfc, show.cfm.

In formAction.cfm, I wrap the in a to catch any database
errors:

ERROR!

I purposely cause an error by trying to insert a string value into an integer
field.

Question: once I catch the error, how do I get the user back to the form and
populate the form fields with what the user has already typed in?

One post recommended putting all the form fields in the session scope, then
populating the form with session variables. But, that seems very cumbersome.

Thanks for the help,

Cameron

Don't assume that =) 800hosting doesn't do reverse DNS unless you ask
them to (kind of obnoxious but oh well)

One of the big things is to generate a Message ID.

IMO, Coldfusion SHOULD automatically generate message IDs if they don't
already exist, but oh well.

Reverse DNS is VERY important.

An SPF record could also come in handle though I'm not sure how many
people are checking SPF records right now.

Other suggestions previously mentioned are useful to.

If you are selling penis enlargement pills, your emails will nearly
always be tagged as spam. I bet a lot of people won't see THIS message now!

I do a lot of work with both, and while I like Apache and I find it
easier to manage configuration data, doing SSL with IIS is *FAR* easier.

I think Microsoft took a beating with the security issues in IIS 5 and
did a pretty good job of making IIS 6 a much more robust product.

Apache still has things that you can't do with IIS like loadable modules
and .htaccess files, but as is typical for Microsoft, they're taking the
best featurs of other products and implementing them - IIS 7 has support
for both (although they don't call them .htaccess files, I think they're
actually XML configuration files)

FB3/Menu Problem

2005-08-24 Thread Greg Luce
OK, this is going to take awhile. I inherited a website from a programmer
that fell off the radar screen. Apparently she talked this client into
moving a dozen or so websites from one hosting company to another (Windows
to Windows) and left with 10 of them completely broken. I have been through
lots of code that absolutely could never have worked on any server so
obviously the most current/complete codebase didn't always get installed for
each site so nothing will surprise me at this point. And of course there are
no backups.

So I have this site that uses the WebFXMenu. The root of the site is in a
folder "www". There was an index.html with links to the site for 3 different
languages. The site is using Fusebox 3 methodology so the 3 links point to
index.cfm with different fuseactions for the languages. The site is in a
folder called "NewVersion" so these links didn't work. I added "NewVersion/"
to these links and the site works.

There is an admin section in folder "www/NewVersion/manager/". When I hit
manager/index.cfm I get a login screen, and can login successfully in either
IE or FF. In IE I have no WebFXMenu, but in FF I have a good menu. But in FF
if I click on a menu item to a page where you are supposed to be able to
edit data, the text editor (cf_activedit v:2.5) is all greyed-out. It feels
like some paths need fixing, but I've tried everything I can think of. So
I'm hoping the codebase really will work, but I don't understand how a
different webserver mapping situation could have caused this.

I have downloaded a new version of the WebFXMenu but installing it looks
daunting.

Ideas anyone? Let me know if seeing code would help.

Greg

If it's CF 7 then iText is built-in alreadyno need to install
anythingCFDOUMENT uses it to produce PDFs

Otherwise you need to drop iText.jar in the right path.and the right
path depends on the type of install (CF as an instance on top of J2EE,
classic install, etc.).

...so you'll need to figure out where the class path is for your
particular CF install ;-)

Though it's somewhat inconvenient, it's dropped the spam reports

Newsletters are a risky business. Even if you do everything
right, some recipients will accuse you of spamming for instance
simply because they forgot they subscribed. Make sure you and all
people allowed to send email through the manager read RFC 3098
and keep appropriate records of subscribtions.

RE: Lowering spam profile of CF generated emails

2005-08-24 Thread Dave.Phillips
Dan,

Go to your command prompt and type this

nslookup

at the nslookup prompt:

>set type=ptr
>xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Where xxx's represent your IP address you want to check for a reverse lookup.
The results will show whether or not your IP address has a reverse lookup. If
it doesn't, contact your DNS provider and request them to add it. Preferably
it will resolve to the domain from which you are sending e-mail, but at the
very least, it should resolve to something.

I use Fusetalk in other high traffic installations, so I don't think its
Fusetalk. CF/JRUN keeps trying to fire off some process that is not even
listed in the scheduled tasks...so the issue is some weirdness in there.

But I would check to see if you have in your exception log anything about a
categories query from the Fusetalk area...thats what tipped me off in that
direction.

Anyone know how to find hidden automated tasks that CF/JRUN try to fire off, or
where the config file for that is?

RE: Old saw: jrun.exe out of control (found issue)

2005-08-24 Thread Dave.Phillips
Could you find them with some java code? I don't have it handy, but I know
there's some java code you can use to display all scheduled tasks. Might be
worth trying to see if it's showing something that isn't on the administrator
page.

Maybe someone here knows that code offhand?

I use Fusetalk in other high traffic installations, so I don't think its
Fusetalk. CF/JRUN keeps trying to fire off some process that is not even
listed in the scheduled tasks...so the issue is some weirdness in there.

But I would check to see if you have in your exception log anything about a
categories query from the Fusetalk area...thats what tipped me off in that
direction.

Anyone know how to find hidden automated tasks that CF/JRUN try to fire off, or
where the config file for that is?

If you are using MX, you could do something like this:

SELECT TOP 1 * FROM Authors

This will give you an array of structures that contain all of the field

RE: Stupid custom tag question

2005-08-24 Thread Gaulin, Mark
If you want your tag to be like CFIF, causing logic to be skipped, then
the answer is probably "no, you can't do it".

If you are ok with the code between the start and end tags running but
with all html output removed, then yes, you can do that by messing with
the generatedcontent property.

I don't want to ignore the content generated by the body, I want to skip
execution of the body. In other words, it's the processing I want to
avoid, not the output. Like how CFIF works, except that the closing tag
still executes.

I want to execute the start tag, then OPTIONALLY execute the body of

only tell me which part of the tag (opening or closing) is currently

As near as I can tell, this is impossible with CF (though trivial with

Re: CFINDEX - how to add/update a single record in an existing collection?

2005-08-24 Thread Pete Ruckelshaus
Boy, it's just my day for search-related questions.

I'm seeing something weird here and want to know if this is normal.
I'm creating an index from a database query. The collection contains
about 14k records, and the initial collection size (immediately upon
creation) is about 79MB.

Optimizing that collection after it is created reduces the collection
size to about 37MB! Now, given that all the total size of my database
is only about 100MB and that there is a ton of other data in there,
I'm willing to believe that the post-optimization size is the correct
one, and that collections suffer from some amazing bloat when they are
created.

So, first, is my experience consistent with that of others, and
second, would a better strategy be to create a collection and then
optimize it immediately afterwards?

Thanks,

Pete

RE: Lowering spam profile of CF generated emails

2005-08-24 Thread Dave.Phillips
Well, in my experience, getting mail into the inbox can be different depending
on the service of the receiver of the e-mail.

AOL:
Sign your server up for whitelisting at http://postmaster.aol.com. If you're
on a shared server, you can't do this, though, so you'd need to be on a
dedicated server. Once whitelisted, I've not had trouble getting AOL mail
through for several months now.

MSN & Hotmail:
Good luck. I've never had any success getting MSN to offer a whitelisting.
Evidently, www.bondedsender.com has some deal with them, but it can be pricy if
you get ANY spam complaints at all (even false spam complaints).

Yahoo:
You can apply for 'delivery to the inbox' instead of in the bulk mail folder,
but I've never been successful in getting approved for this. Do some searching
in their help section for the application. They 'monitor' your mail for a few
days and then tell you what they think about it. Bottom line is if you have a
large amount of mail coming out of your server to @yahoo.com addresses, you're
giong to end up in the bulk mail folder (unless the receiver has added you to
their safe sender list.

Other mail servers:

You can use the free tool at:

http://spamcheck.sitesell.com/

To check and see how many mail server filters generally will receive your
content. This will help eliminate some blocking, but ultimately, you will end
up in junk mail & bulk mail folders if you're sending a large quantity of mail
from your server.

** One thing to keep in mind...most mail servers & providers base whether your
mail is classified as bulk mail based on the quantity of mail coming from your
SERVER, not your DOMAIN. This is important to understand as if you're on a
shared server, or if you share your server with others, you might get classifed
as bulk because of their activities.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, just what I can come up with from
memory. Hope it helps. I'm sure some others will have some comments here for
you too.

Oh, one more thing...plain text e-mails are most always more likely to be
delivered than HTML e-mails. I send all my e-commerce 'receipt' e-mails in
plain text and then a 'welcome' e-mail in HTML nicely formatted separately.

I read the thread, but my understanding of the problem changed a few
times. Recent versions of Adobe Reader can embed and display SWF files.
A SWF file can be referenced in any HTML page. SWF itself can print a
screen or alternative display. Are any of these topics of interest to
you...?

RE: Old saw: jrun.exe out of control (found issue)

2005-08-24 Thread Eric J. Hoffman

This is very interesting. We use Fusetalk over here as well. Problem is, I
don't want to disable it because we actively use it! Can you be more
specific about what exactly you need to do to fix the problem? Does it
require discontinuing use of Fusetalk altogether?

Okay, I think I have found the issueit was trying to run some file over
and over.

I removed the directory as it wasn't in use any longer. Here's the freak
show: I removed all scheduled tasks, etc, mappings, etc to the Fusetalk
Forums that was firing up this query over and over. I even deleted *all*
scheduled tasks for now.

Restarted.

Now, it just gives me an error file not found in the exception.log every
thirty seconds. At least memory has stabilized, my i/o just getting some
love now. But the server is staying up.

Stopped the IIS website even that was where the forums were stored.
Restarted CF. Same flippin thing happening.

NOW, how can this be? Is there a file that contains/runs certain scheduled
tasks that in some way may not have properly deleted this process...I
started to look for a scheduled task xml file somewhere but not real certain
where its stored. I mean, it starts right from the get go like a dog after
a bone.

Any thoughts from other server guys on this one?

That does not solve the problem, it only covers the problem up. What
does SQL Profiler tell you, what is happening in terms of SQL Server

Maybe Macromedia can come up with an answer, my guess is you are not the

Re: cfgrid update using cfquery

2005-08-24 Thread Felipe Fernandes
David, after play a little with the flash forms what I can tell you is
to not let the user make more than one kind of modification (if they
update don´t let them insert or delete, and so on). Another bug is try
to edit some row, than click in another row, don´t update it and send
the form you gonna see that the form.gridname structure isn´t an
array. What I do is use this code to insert and delete rows.

GridData.insertRow(myGrid);
_global.backupDP.push(myGrid.getItemAt(myGrid.length -1));
remove.enabled=false;

var item = myGrid.selectedItem;
if(_global.backupDP != undefined)
{
for(var i = 0; i < _global.backupDP.length; i++)
{
if(_global.backupDP[i] == item)
{
_global.backupDP.removeItemAt(i);
}
}
}
GridData.deleteRow(myGrid);
inser.enabled=false;

With this, your user wont be able to insert and delete rows without
refreshing the form, but to prevent the second bug i mentioned, you
will need to make some changes in your form, insted of letting your
user edit in the grid, bind some text fields to the grid and set your
selectmode to browse in the grid, than put a {btn_send.enabled =
false;} in the onchange atribute of your grid (if your send button is
named btn_send). And in the onchange of the text input fields put
btn_send.enabled = true; after the code to edit the grid.
This sould take care of those two bugs in the cfgrid in flash format.

Re: Lowering spam profile of CF generated emails

2005-08-24 Thread Jerry Johnson
Not definitive, and some may not be necessary, but here is what I try to do:

Dont put "your order" or "receipt" in the subject.
Dont put "opt out" or "remove yourself" in the body.
Dont have any swear words. Or Viagra. Or enlargement.
Have a good valid word to nonsense word (not found in a dictionary) ratio
If at all possible, send as txt. If not possible due to marketing and
design types, send as combo html and txt.
Make sure the From and repond-to fields are well named (don't use
[EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED])
Stay away from !
Stay away from all caps.
Make sure all URLs make sense and are human readable
Make sure your mail server has a valid mx record.
Dont use the color "red" or "ff" in your html.
Avoid sizes like XX and XXX and use the more standard XXL and XXXL

Of course, you could also run the sample of your email through trial
versions of various filter to see what about it is getting filtered.

Or send the list the content of the email for another dozen set of
eyes. Maybe we could pick out the obvious culprits.

RE: CFINDEX - how to add/update a single record in an existing collection?

2005-08-24 Thread Dave.Phillips
As for optimizing, I would consider doing it daily if you're making several
updates and/or refreshes throughout the day. If you're only doing a refresh

day. I think it would be overkill to optimize every day if you're only

I ended up taking Dave's query for a single record approach because it
simplified a number of things. Because of the nature of the app, I
update some of the data one column at a time, but it still needs to be
indexed immediately. I have a CFC with an updateCollection method
that I just pass a collection name and record ID.

Followup question. What contributes to the degradation of verity
collections? Will updating single records in a collection kill verity
search performance? What strategy should I take with
repairing/optimizing collections...scheduled task to do it hourly, or
would just once a day suffice?

Thanks for the help,

Re: Stupid custom tag question

2005-08-24 Thread Daniel Mackey
By referencing thisTag.generatedContent, you could possibly do what you
want.

This is taking the following for granted:

1) Start tag is
2) Body of tag is [in between start and end]
3) End tag is

By setting thisTag.generatedContent to "" i.e: Nothing, then what you
have in between will not be written out. That doesnt mean it wont be
executed though.

I would set an attribute to determine when you need to output and when
not to.

Therefore:

Perform your work

holds through.

Dan.

We are having a fairly high incidence of these e-mails being trapped in spam

What can I do to make these e-mails less spam looking?

I don't think iText itself does any file access. If your customers aren't
allowed to use CFOBJECT or CreateObject, then they won't be able to do much
with it. If they are, then they will have access to the java.io classes
anyway. It's those classes that do the actual file reading & writing - iText
just adds functionality which understands how certain types of files are
structured.

If they are HTML emails they will often get caught as these are generally
considered spam.
If it is an opt-in list you really need to tell users to add you to their
whitelist so they can receive your emails.

If it's CF 7 then iText is built-in alreadyno need to install
anythingCFDOUMENT uses it to produce PDFs

Otherwise you need to drop iText.jar in the right path.and the right
path depends on the type of install (CF as an instance on top of J2EE,
classic install, etc.).

..so you'll need to figure out where the class path is for your
particular CF install ;-)

But any part of the body of the tag will be either "start" or "end", whether

I want to execute the start tag, then OPTIONALLY execute the body of

only tell me which part of the tag (opening or closing) is currently

As near as I can tell, this is impossible with CF (though trivial with JSP).

If you do not want to host the mailing lists on your server,
FreeLists.org is an excellent (and free) mailing lists service that
can do it for you. However, the lists are all Internet and

In fact, I have created a mailing list there for Oracle developers:
