[Elecraft] Dayton Hamvention / FDIM rooms
There are still a few rooms available for the next 5 days at the QRP Hotel - the Holiday Inn in Fairborn, Ohio for the Hamvention and the FDIM (Four Days In May) festivities. These rooms include a breakfast buffett and the QRP pricing. After that the rooms go to the higher street price. (But check with me - there just may be a few rooms available after April 20 in the QRP group!) YN - Nicaragua Feb 17 - 24 Hank, K8DD (YN2DD); Stan, AC8W (YN2WW); Lee, N8LJ (YN2LJ) and Jim, KB8TXZ (YN2TX) will be active on all bands/modes. In the ARRL DX CW contest using the call YN2DD. Check QRZ.COM for QSL information. That said . As I have done for the past trips to the DX side, the Thursday night (Feb 19 local time) before the contest I will be on 40 meters QRP about the time the Fox Hunt is over. Normally I try to find a QRP frequency close to 7040 and call CQ QRP and stick around as long as there are QRP callers. The Fox Hunts run until 2230 Eastern Time, which is 0330Z. And if possible, I will try to get on either 17 or 20 M on Monday. 18095 or 14060. We should have internet access, so I will try to get an announcement out close to Thur the 19th and then on Mon the 23rd. The rig should be a K3 (a K2 for backup) And the antennas are: 40 meter 2 el quad fixed on 30 deg 17 meter 2 el quad rotatable 20 meter A3 tribander rotatable Please do not spot the Thursday night QRP schedule on the DX Clusters!! 72 73 Hank K8DD/YN2DD -- "I knew that God put me on this earth to be on the radio."Ed Bradley -- "Me too!"K8DD -- __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

[Elecraft] Re: K2 - CAT
Fred I have never had luck running either the K2 or K3 with AUTO baud rate. I'd set the baud rate to 4800. And I've seen on the Writelog reflector recommendations not to use AUTO with most radios. 73 HankK8DD The RS-232 CAT for my K2 has always worked well. Getting ready for the OK RTTY, I find that it keeps giving weird frequencies, none of which are right. It seems to do it about once a second. I'm running WriteLog, the rig is set to K2, and the baud rate to AUTO, which has always worked. Anyone got any ideas? If I can get this fixed, I think I'll just leave the K2 set on RTTY ... this happens every time I try to get it working with the laptop again. I have 2 USB adapters, both Prolific bridges, one from Elecraft and one from RS. The RS one has worked in the past. Re: [Elecraft] K3 CW filtering
- Original Message - From: "Gary Smith" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> With that, what filter should I go with to maximise my CW experience? Like John W2XS I went with the 500 & 200 Hz filters. In CQ WPX CW I could slowly tune up 20M and work the European stations in between the loud east coast stations - it was like they were not there. Very impressive! And no ringing.I have not cranked the width down to 50 Hz, but the times that I did were pretty effective. I had a 1.8 filter that I thought was going to be good for SSB and OK for CW. I didn't like it on SSB and it was too wide on CW - stations 1 KHz away would nail the AGC, so I traded it for a 1.0 filter. So for CW I believe that the 1.0, 500, 200 is an excellent combination, although I have not had the chance to use the 8 pole narrow CW filters if one is to believe the numbers that W4ZV, W4TV, and others have come up with comparing the 5 and 8 pole filters, it doesn't appear that there is a whole lot of difference between them. It has less hiss and just sounds better - at least to my crummy ears.. I have played around some with the RX equalizer in the K3 and have improved it some but has anyone had time to really find out what settings will best mirror the K2 with the KAF2? Thanks and 73, Bill NZ0T Bill I tend to agree - the K2 with the K2DSP does sound better on CW with the DSP / NR turned on than the K3 with NR turned on. At least to my old ears. On the K3, with NR off AGC SLP = 12 AGC THR = 5, it sounds pretty close to my K2 with no DSP / NR. ( My CONFIG & MENU settings are on http://k8dd.com/k3/K3_Settings11-03-08.xls ). I have recorded both with Audacity. Without DSP both the K2 and K3 have great sounding audio. When you turn on the K2 DSP the signal may sound a bit hollow, but the waveform of the CW is not destroyed. With the K3's NR turned on with any of the levels set the leading edge of the CW signal starts to flatten out or go soft and destroy the CW waveform - the leading edge goes anywhere from looking like a .45 bullet to a 30-06! It does, however bring the signal up out of the noise, but at higher speeds it makes it hard to copy. I recorded a CW contest in the spring and sent sound clips to some friends and some QRP ops that I worked - one comment was "I've got to check my rig - that keying sounds really soft." It wasn't their keying - with the NR off they sounded fine. The end result is -- I don't use NR or RX EQ. As has been stated, RX EQ on CW causes very low audio when the bandwidth is 200 Hz or below. I have not tried the MCU and DSP that came with the K3, but I do not remember that NR altered the received CW waveform like it does now. And I have no idea what NR does to signals on SSB That's my story and I'm sticking to it 73HankK8DD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I guess going between the two is a lot easier or quicker than turning the Bandwidth knob. They used to get a lot of use (actually #I did) when I would be chasing DX spots, or typing frequencies, from the logging program because when I'd change band and/or mode several times the K3 would forget what the filter setting was supposed to be for the mode. I would rather have them both the same for the DSP filters and have them store the power level - 100 watts for barefoot and 70 watts for driving the amp.Although I could leave the K3 set at 70 watts all the time - if I can't work them at 70 watts I very seriously doubt that I'm going to work them at 100 watts! Re: [Elecraft] K3 and recording SSB & CW
N1MM records QSO's where Writelog records continuously. Using N1MM in the NA QSO Party, for 424 QSOs, I used 500 Mb. A 25 second QSO took 1,101 KB Audio Format PCM 11.025, 16 Bit, Stereo. With Writelog one hour (3582.78 seconds) is 6,998 KB Audio format MPEG Layer-3 16 kBits/s, 11,025 Hz, Mono. Quite possibly I could have cut down the audio format to something like PCM 8 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono 7 kb/sec. That would have saved about 4,000 KB. But the 8 kHz quality was a fair amount less quality than the 11025 Hz in WPX SSB using an IC-746 with fixed line output. So I guess it depends on which program you are using to record, how much quality you want and how big your hard drive is! 73 Hank K8DD - Original Message - From: "David Cutter" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Elecraft" Cc: "Elecraft Reflector" Sent: Saturday, August 16, 2008 12:07 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 and recording SSB & CW Is there an optimum setting for digital recording (bit rate?) that will maximise memory capacity? Re: [Elecraft] K3 and recording SSB
When you record both XMT and RCV audio the level is controlled by the AF Gain control on the K3 rather than a fixed level output. To keep from distorting on the laptop you have to keep from turning the AF Gain up too high, which can cause distortion on the laptop. This can make it difficult to copy weak stations on the air. I have used Writelog and N1MM to test this. But if the laptop is independent of the logging PC you could use Audacity - a free audio program. 73HankK8DD - Original Message - From: "Jeff Kinzli N6GQ" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Elecraft Reflector" Sent: Friday, August 15, 2008 8:43 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K3 and recording SSB Hey Folks, I'm planning a serious effort for CQWW SSB in October and would like to record the entire contest digitally to my laptop (not the logging computer, a different one). K3 support has determined, after 4 days of emails, that they are bad - possibly from a 'nearby lightning strike' - and it's up to me to replace them with 2 new more robust diodes or pay for having them replaced if I send them the K3. I guess the new robust parts are warranty, but replacing them isn't! Elecraft is sending me the 2 new more robust diodes. I do not have the equipment to remove the old ones and replace them, nor do I have the desire to work on anything smaller than a 1/8 watt resistor. So . is there anyone within 50 miles or so of Lapeer, MI who can change these new diodes when I get them? And if you don't have a K3, this would be a good chance to see one and try it out! 73HankK8DD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Most QRP contests have a QRP limit of 5 watts for both CW and SSB. I know the ARRL does that. ARCI, and I think GQRP, had QRP on SSB limited to 10 watts, I think in an attempt to account for the disparity between the two modes QRP-ARCI defines QRP as: QRP operation for QRP-ARCI purposes is defined as operation with a transmitter power output of 5 watts or less (CW)(A1) and 10 watts PEP or less (SSB)(A3J). QRP-ARCI awards are based on these output levels. . I believe most other QRP organizations agree with this, although there are some groups / contests that specify that SSB QRP is 5 watts (or less) output on all modes. As far as I know, no one uses the well discussed (and sometimes over discussed!) use of ERP in QRP power levels. 72 73HankK8DD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] K3: recommendations wanted for NR setting
Pre Firmware 2.20 I uses AGC SLP 4 and AGC THR 8 to make the K3 sound like the K2 AGC. At least on CW. And used NR F2-4. That worked great at Field Day. Since Firmware 2.20 I cannot find a setting that accomplishes two things Sounds like a K2 and the audio level for NR on & off is about the same And with NR on (most any setting) now the received CW sounds soft, or very slow attack time. At higher speeds it is possible to miss a leading dit in a character. But at this point AGC SLP and THR both equal to 2 works fine (to my ears) with loud and weak signals, but when I turn on NR the received signal goes very soft. If I set NR = F1-1 through F1-3 it isn't too bad. 73 HankK8DD - Original Message - From: "Vic Abell" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Tuesday, August 05, 2008 7:18 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K3: recommendations wanted for NR setting I just completed K3 1162 and am interested in setting its NR to an optimal value for combating summer QRN. Re: [Elecraft] Using Voice Files along with Mike Input on a K3
Ed . If you look at http://www.writelog.com/support/wlso2r.pdf it shows how to set up the mike for SSB contesting. If you ignore the Left Rig and the W5XD Multi+ keyer and just look at the Right Rig and microphone setup you will see how to keep the audio from the other ops out of your mike. In N1MM configurer you can select the line to mute when playing wav files. This is also mostly the Mic input. Check http://pages.cthome.net/n1mm/html/English/BasicFunctions.htm#Recording_Wav_files for recording info. I have found that if the MON level is turned up so you can hear yourself, with MIC + Line in you will get feedback when you activate PTT. I'm assuming this will not happen if the mike is plugged into the sound card. Also, if you want to record both TX and RX audio in the contest you have to select =PHONES. This will send TX & RX audio to the sound card at a level controlled by the AF Gain control (NOT Line Out level) and possibly overdrive your sound card. 73 HankK8DD - Original Message - From: "Ed Steeble" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> I tried to use a K3 in the IOTA contest on SSB but ran into a problem. I couldn't figure out how to satisfactory key the K3 with wave files from N1MM Logger and also use a Heil Headset. Reading the manual it appears that you can have audio input from ONLY the front panel, rear panel, OR line in. The wave files were coming via the line in and the mike via the Front panel. Did I over look something? A fellow team member and I considered paralleling the mike and sound card input but we didn't want a live mike while wave files were playing. The Elecraft web site says that their digital voice recorder (KDVR3) is not yet shipping. Re: [Elecraft] Sidetone Monitor Preference Opinions
Allow the PITCH to be changed without having to listen to the tone or with the tone. Allow the sidetone level to be changed without having to listen to it or with the tone.. Allow the sidetone to be independently controlled (and be able to change it while you are transmitting) or AF Gain controlled. Personally I like the PITCH to be adjustable without having to listen to it. And the sidetone adjustable without having to listen to it. And the sidetone level independent of the AF Gain control. And I'd like to be able to record both the TX and RX audio at a fixed level rather than have the level controlled by the AF Gain! - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Monday, July 28, 2008 9:21 AM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Sidetone Monitor Preference Opinions I don't adjust the sidetone level very often. Not sure I'd like to have it vary with the AF Gain. I think I like having it as a reference audio level. Mine is set at 25. What I would like is the option to adjust the PITCH without hearing the sidetone. In other words, listening to a weak signal I want to adjust it's pitch (offset) for best copy. Different signal conditions can warrant the use of different pitches for optimum copy. But you can't do this with the sidetone overriding the received audio. Even if you set the sideone level to zero the received audio is blocked whenever PITCH is on. 73, Drew AF2Z ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I really would like to know why you want to convert it to mono. No kidding. Tom, N5GE - SWOT 3537 - Grid EM12jq I'm not sure why you would want to select 'none' for the second RX antenna You wouldn't hear much. It appears the SUB RX can have the same antenna as the first RX or the BNC below ANT 2 for a separate antenna. We used to go to Zone 2 up on James Bay for CQ WW SSB with either a TenTec Omni D or a Corsair (it was years ago) and on 40M we would TX around 7050 and listen 7050 & 7195 with the remote VFO. It mixed audio to mono headphones. Didn't really care what freq the station was calling on - just work them. Hopefully the EU & VE stations were on 7050 and the US stations were on 195! Some people might find left ear / right ear from main RX / sub RX .. I used to find that very distracting before I kind of became used to it. And . ask me my opinion in person some time about my thoughts on pileup police . About the same as DX nets .. but that's not a topic for here! :^} 73HankK8DD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] RE: [dxlab] K3 will keep CW filters when QSYing SSB
I don't see this with Logger32 . But I had to add some lines to the .ini file so the program would change the filter to what I specified - 700 Hz on CW, 2.7 KHz on SSB and 1.0 KHz on Data. If the program does not tell the K3 how to set the filter when you change band and / or mode it will revert to the previous mode and you have to use NORM. At least with the current firmware! 73 Hank K8DD -Original Message- From: Laurent FERRACCI Hi friends, I am posting this message to the Elecraft, microHAM and DXLab lists, because all three are involved. Sorry for crossposting. Anyway, it probably won't appear in the Elecraft list, because this list considers me as a spammer (?). Say i'm listening to CW on my K3, and see a interesting spot on Spotcollector. I click on it, Commander and my microKEYER will QSY the K3 to the spot frequency. However, i usually end up in SSB with the previous filter setting, ie the narrow CW filter, and of course it's not enough for SSB. Of course, i only have to press the "NORM" button to broaden it, but it's annoying. I don't have the same problem when QSYing from SSB to CW (the width is reduced as it should). [Elecraft] [K3] K3 and Logger32 logging program
If you click on a DX spot, or type in the frequency to change to another band and / or mode and the filters do not switch to the default settings And you are using Logger32 - Here is the answer to get SSB settings on SSB, Data settings on Data and CW settings on CW sent to the K3! In the help file there is a section on the K3, but that is for pre-MCU 2.00. Here is an update to how it works for MCU 2.00 and above: Filter selection The K2 and K3 should always store those filter setting by each mode. If you select the mode by manually or clicking DX spot then in the future they will select the filter by stored setting. There is another way to select a filter directly from Logger32. Add one or two of the following section in the Logger32.ini. “n” in FWn is Filter number of your K2. FW is the DSP bandwidth on your K3 (see examples below). Doing some investigation with the command tester in the Firmware Utility, I think there is a bug in the K3 firmware. It is not changing the filter bandwidth if a band change is made by CAT command and this results in a mode change because the mode last used on the new band is different from the mode you were previously using. If you are on 14.025 CW, and you change frequency to 28280 by sending the command FA0002828; the K3 changes to that 10m frequency. The mode used on 10m is the mode that was used the last time you were on 10m, but the filter bandwidth remains the same as it was on 14MHz. So if you were last on 10m using SSB, you will end up in SSB with a CW filter bandwidth. If you were last on CW, you will be in CW mode on 10m. This explains why you observe that the filter sometimes changes, and sometimes doesn't. If you were last on 10m in CW, if the software sends a mode change command after the frequency change command, the K3 will go to 10m CW and then change to SSB which will cause the filter bandwidth to change correctly. If the K3 was last in SSB on 10m, then it will change to 10m SSB and the narrow bandwidth become wrongly set as the new SSB filter bandwidth. The subsequent mode change command won't do anything. - Julian, G4ILO K3 s/n: 222 K2 s/n: 392 G4ILO's Shack: www.g4ilo.com Zerobeat Ham Forums: www.zerobeat.net/smf -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Re%3A--K3-More-on-changing-band-mode-and-filters-don%27t-tp17576785p17579881.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Re: [Elecraft] [K3]More on changing band/mode and filters don't
More information: I just downloaded DX4WIN demo. It does the same thing - K3 on 14.025, CW, 700 Hz. Click on a spot for 28280. Radio goes to 28280, Mode changes to SSB, but filter stays at 700 Hz. - Original Message From: hank k8dd <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Elecraft Reflector Sent: Saturday, May 31, 2008 11:52:05 AM Subject: [Elecraft] [K3]Changing band/mode and filters don't I'm not sure how many use Logger32, but when I am chasing DX spots and change band and / or mode, the filters do not go to the default settings. With respect Kent, (and I know your email was not aimed at me) I did not ask for any such reinvention of the front panel. I simply stated that it is easy (and frustrating) to overwrite memories. I am also not afraid of exerting myself to learn the radio. My point is that it should not be possible to 'accidentally' overwrite a memory. I do not need multiple stacking thingummies or anything like that, I simply want to be able to put memories in there and not be able to overwrite them by not concentrating enough. During a contest or some other frantic time, my brain does not always cover every eventuality. Come to think of it, it is not that much good at other times :) As an Elecraft lover for over 6 years I have no wish to use another radio. I simply wish to be able to use my K3 as easily as possible and as it is basically firmware driven, I see no problem in wishing the radio to cover my humanity. I took a fair amount of flak from the "true believers" because a long time ago I said the Elecraft shut down and other radios did not shut down, so it must not be a problem with the Ameritron amps. Before I put the Relay Accelerator on my AL-1200 the KPA-100 on the K2 would shut down. The relay would still key, but no output. No other indication that there was no output until I glanced at the wattmeter. Great way to lose a run frequency!! None of my Icom radios exhibited this problem - They may chop off a tad of the first element, but this has never caused a problem without the relay accelerator. And I'm not about to take it out to see what happens with the K3/100. Maybe the K2's RF comes up to quick compared to the other radios. Maybe the K2 shuts down too quick with that short time that it takes the relay to pick. I don't know . and at this point - I don't care - I've worked around the problem . whether it's an Elecraft problem or not! 73HankK8DD -- 'Never argue with an idiot. Re: [Elecraft] K3 and linear amp
Bob speaks the truth here. The K6XX fast relay circuit is the answer. The problem with Elecraft rigs switching Ameritron amps has existed with the K2/100 and, so it appears, now with the K3/100. I have had the K6XX fast relay circuit in my AL-1200 working with the K2/100's. No KPA-100 shutdowns since I put it in a couple of years ago. And there has been no problem with the K3/100. It is a simple fix to allow the K2/100 & K3/100 to work with the slower 12VDC Ameritron amp relays . if you need it. 73 HankK8DD Roger Go to this site http://www.k6xx.com/radio/fastrely.pdf K6XX has a need relay speed-up circuit that might be applicable to the relay in your amp. I suppose that it requires the relay to be a 12v relay, though. Don't know what you actually have. The dates we will be on the air are Feb 13 - 18 In the past when we go to the DX side of radio for a major contest I make it a habit of reserving Thursday evening for 40 Meter 2XQRP. So. I will be on approximately 7040 plus or minus calling CQ QRP from PZ5DD and I'll stick around untill there are no more QRP stations calling. I'm sure there will be others, but hopefully no one will spot me on the PacketCluster network!! The plan is to get on about 0200Z February 15. That's Thursday evening about 9 PM Eastern Time. I will probably be around 25 wpm - but if you figure it's me and call at a slower speed I will try to match your speed - N problem. The call is PZ5DD. Next weekend we will be in the ARRL DX contest using the call PZ5WW Multi Single. There will be 4 operators - AC8W W5JAY KB8TXZ and me. And the exchange we'll be giving will probably be the standard ole 5NN NNN . That's 599 for the RST (I know, I know, but it's the standard!) 999 for approximately nine hundred and ninety nine watts. So if you find us - give us a QSO, and we will slow down to the slowest caller. There is a very good chance that I will show up on 18096 Monday after the contest and see if there is any QRP activity. I will try to let the QRP reflectors know an hour or so in advance when I'll be showing up on 17M On 40M I hesitate to go down to 7030 because that is down in "DX country" and I am not trying to generate a pile-up, but I want to work 2XQRP - unless it's a QRP pile-up, that is! 72 73 and hope to work a lot of 2XQRP while we are down there. [Elecraft] CQ WW CW & a K3
I just got home from CQ WW CW . a bunch of us got together at a major station and we each picked a band and used our own calls. 10 M - no operator showed up and I don't think the band did either. 15 M - a brand new Omni VII 20 M - me and my K2/100 w/DSP 40 M - AC8W and my other K2/100 80 M - K8AQM and his K2/100 160 M - N8EA and a borrowed K3/100 with no serial number! The K1/100 had the 2.7, 1.8 and 500 filters as I remember. I got to sit in front of the K3 for a little over an hour and came away with two observations . Well - three. 1. Best damn receiver I've sat in front of! 2. The small VFO knob had absolutely no drag. I don't know if they are all like that, or if the guy who built it didn't do something. I don't know his call or if I heard it I don't remember it. 3. This is the long, hard to explain thing. Let's say I am listening to 1830.000 to a DX station. VFO A The DX station says QSX 1829 so I set VFO B to 1829.00 The RIT is on and is + 1 KHZ - so A reads 1830.100 Now I want to listen to the pile on the TX frequency, so I press REV. Now my TX freq reads 1829.100 and my RX freq on the bottom reads 1830.00 I find where the last station worked is and release the REV button. The TX freq is going to be 100 Hz low! Seems to me that the RIT should stay with the frequency and not the location of that frequency. As I saw it this afternoon that could cause me to not be on the TX frequency where I want to be transmitting. But, like I said in Nr 1 - best receiver I've ever used. 72 73HankK8DD ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Re: [Elecraft] Interesting K3 Pan Adapter Development
Personally I'm not a fan of panadapters or fancy displays on radios. Give me a tuning knob, volume control, and a good front end like the K2/100 has (maybe some day a K3 when Run 2 runs out the door) and that's about all I need! WriteLog allows you to do the same thing as N1MM and a few other logging programs - "point & click" on the band map and cluster spots. However this mode of operation pointing and clicking spots or band map entries is a very small part of the total contest venue -- except at the multi-op stations for the multiplier station, where you have more time to fiddle with the mouse (or knobs) to tune in the station than a run or search and pounce station has. So, yes, there is room for a mouse on the operating desk just not much use for it when you are running or sweeping the band looking for new stations. These are my opinions and I own them! 73HankK8DD David Cutter wrote: My contest team uses N1MM contest logger and we can "point and click" on the band map side bar where previously entered call signs are listed. [Elecraft] [K3] K3 Rcv Ant Question
I was talking to a friend on the phone tonight and he came up with a K3 question . How many dB of isolation are there between the main antenna ports and the RX antenna ports? Of course, there are outboard devices and other mods to help this problem, but I wondered how well the K3 handles this without 'help'? 73HankK8DD -- --- If God intended you to be on single sideband, he would have given you only one nostril. - Steve, K2PTS (SK) --- ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. AF---())---RFfor each I dislike having to use the concentric, or "inner" control without disturbing the the other. Those are the most used in a contest. Then there is the RIT for the "non-zero-beaters"! And next would be the filter width on a knob rather than buttons you must cycle through. Then keyer speed, but lately that is controlled by the PC / K1EL Winkeyer. The Bandswitch used to be right up there, but that's controlled by the PC now with contest and logging programs! Power, Mic gain, Compression, are nice, but pretty much "set & forget" in a contest. You don't have a lot of time to be messing with them when you are running or S&P. I'd think most everything else can be buttons as long as they don't bounce! 73HankK8DD -- --- If God intended you to be on single sideband, he would have given you only one nostril. - Steve, K2PTS (SK) --- ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft_K3] K3 XIT RIT
With the XIT and / or RIT on, can you cause the resultant frequency,to be the operating frequency with the press (or press & hold) of a button? For example - I'm on 7025.22 and the RIT is up 1.33 kc, so I'm listening on 7025.33 and transmitting on 7026.55. I'd like to press a button (or press & hold) and clear the RIT and have the VFO read 7026.55. On the Icom 746 you press the RIT or XIT to turn them on and press them, for 2 sec to add the shift frequecny to the operating frequency. Or can you do that already with the K3? 73HankK8DD -- --- If God intended you to be on single sideband, he would have given you only one nostril. - Steve, K2PTS (SK) --- Yahoo!
