[MBZ] pulling gasser injectors??

Hi Everyone,

Next thing I'd like to do on the w124 gasser with a 3.0L engine is pull the
fuel injectors.  Ok, the questions, the fuel lines are ridged, so unlike my
other car with CIS, I guess I'll have to remove the lines first before
taking out the injectors?  Ok, so with a stone cold engine, can I just undo
the nut on the line that connects to the injector?  I know CIS is under more
than 100psi, but won't a rag over it do to catch the fuel mist? Also, I
notice a bracket that seems to prevent the injector from turning while the
fuel line is being attached or removed.  That bracket seems to be held in
place with a hex bolt.  So, with the fuel line removed, and the bracket
removed, what to expect next??  Does the injector just push in, using an "O"
ring like my other car with CIS?  There seems to be a while or off white
washer that sits just ontop of the head, and the injector goes through it.
Does this remain in the head when you pull the injector?  Looks like a good
spot for an air leak, hee hee.  So, putting it all back together, is there a
procedure for bleeding the air out of the fuel lines, or just crank it and
let the fuel pump purge the air?

Any tips offered is much appreciated, other than telling me not to do it,
because you know I am!  hee hee  :-)

[MBZ] 380SL ignition followup

Thanks to all who contributed ideas.  Using info provided by Robert 
Bingham, I was able to verify the coil and distributor pickup were 
ok.  Based on that info, I bit the bullet and ordered the ignition 
control module from Rusty.  He has 3 to choose from, the most 
expensive being the Bosch OEM unit.  I chose the least expensive, 
which looks dissimilar from the OEM unit.  It does mount in the 
original position using the original screws.  After 3 weeks of 
running, there have been no more ignition problems.

I think that was it.  I thought so ahead of time, but I didn't want 
to spend $560 on an experiment.

I believe Jim Cathey's method of resoldering would have fixed the old 
unit.  The old ICU is available to anyone who likes to solder as an 
experiment.  If you want to try a resolder of a $560 ICU, contact me 
offlist and I will provide the subject for your experiment.

Please folks, ASK RUSTY FIRST before you order parts from anywhere 
else!  He saved me a bunch of bucks on this one!  If you don't know 
how to contact Rusty, read the bottom of every email on this 
list!  And don't forget to check with Kaleb for used parts.  He 
provides the list for us.

It is item 5.  The MB part number is A 116 330 4120.

If you had read the entire article you would have seen that the 
stakeholder will meet on Oct 4th to decide a name.
Perhaps you could buy some stock and head on down to voice your opinion.
I think part of the reason for the Daimler only name is that they don't 
want to admit that they made a big stuff up and just using Daimler is a 
way of saying that this is all part of natural progression, whereas 
going back to DB would be an admission that DC was a mistake.

No, photos are not really helpful, it is a matter of just doing it. 
Making sure everything is nicely aligned before compression and stopping 
if things don't appear right.
The only photos that would be helpful are ones that show things when 
they are not right, so you know when you have gone off track.
As I said, it is not a difficult job bit one where care has to be taken.
I am not sure what you mean by steering knuckle, could you be a bit more 
specific?

least a year.  One could get a router that is N speed, but should  
also purchase the same brand N cards for use in laptop.  Keeps things

It was a more cosmetic than actual needed repair.  The manual shift  
was sloppy, the bushings at the trans were dead, so I put new ones  
in.  Screwed up the engagement of gears and seem to have locked it.

To prevent repeats, I will now take car and idiot self to BiL who  
earns a living mechanically, and we will have oversight as I screw  
things up.  He will then step forward to apply corrective whacks with  
snap on tools upside my head so that I cease further work.  Then we  
will figure out how to unfornicate the mess I made so as not to  
require expensive visits to AAA shop

Apple Airport Extreme.

Yeah, yeah, I know - it's an Apple product.  However,
it's set up to work with either Mac or Windoze
platforms, and does it quite well.

Probably one of the nicest features it has is the
capability for a shared printer and network attached
storage, or NAS.  That's any external USB hard drive
you can plug in to the router and all your users have
access to it.  That means you can stick common files,
like music, pictures, docs, etc. on the NAS and anyone
who has rights to the access point can get to them.

Just to ad another bit of info: I happened to back my car into a
little spot to take the dogs to the beach last evening. As I did so, I
got the same smoke and burning oil smell.

This is really the only time the care smokes noticeably and definitely
the only time it smells this way (to my knowledge).

In a test designed to provide feedback on its advanced lithium ion
technology, battery manufacturer Johnson Controls-Saft will convert a fleet
of Dodge Sprinter delivery vans into plug-in hybrids, the company announced
yesterday.

The vans, made by Chrysler LLC, will be outfitted as plug-in hybrids that
operate primarily on an electric motor and recharge through an outlet.

The delivery vans are slated to be deployed at multiple locations and to be
monitered to provide feedback on how the batteries perform under various
operating conditions.

The vehicles will use lithium-ion batteries that provide more power than
batteries that propel currently available hybrid vehicles, and that are 47
percent lighter than the nickel-metal hydride batteries they replace,
officials said.

"Advanced battery technology is the single most important enabler in making
all types of electric vehicles practical," said Mary Ann Wright, who heads
the joint venture between French energy storage company Saft *(Euronext:
Saft)* and auto battery company Johnson Controls *(NYSE: JCI)*.

She noted that pluggable hybrids, conventional hybrids, electric vehicles
and fuel-cell cars all stand to benefit from advances in lithium battery
technology.

Fleet vehicles are often used for early deployments of new vehicle
technologies because they allow for more controlled use.

In a program run by Internet search company Google's *(NASDAQ:
GOOG)*foundation arm, vehicle use data is being collected on a small
fleet of
Toyota Prius cars with an after-market modification to run as plug-in
vehicles using the battery technology of A123 Systems, a rival of Watertown,
Mass.-based Johnson Controls-Saft.

Lithium ion batteries provide more power than the nickel-metal hydride
technology that is commonly used in conventional vehicles, but they are
prone to overheating and can spontaneously catch fire, a problem that
triggered a massive recall of laptop computer batteries in 2006
(*Greenwire
*, Aug. 10).

Several automakers are pursuing improved lithium ion batteries to overcome
the problem, though the *Wall Street Journal* recently reported that Toyota
officials had indicated a delay in the introduction of lithium-based
pluggable cars linked to the overheating issue

was an extra brace and it took half the day. If I had to do it again I would
remove the dash pad first. 

Also to vacuum out the system I have used a vacuum line from the engine.

and let engine run (assuming gas engine). However I now have a cheap vacuum
pump powered from air compressor that I got from harbor freight for under

Any of the major brands work well & the feedbacl you'll get will be
based on users opinion of the setup menu. 

I'm assuming you will be connecting to the internet? Then don't bother
with anyone's 2X or Speedboost technology - get a straight wireless G
router (they all make them).  The reason is that even wireless G is
faster than an internet connection.

You're not alone, Brian.  For example, when I was first learning how
to do my own repairs, I shied away from brake jobs for a long time
(despite knowing that they were only a little more difficult than an
oil change) for fear of screwing up something so critical to safe
driving.

launch it from the download bar/menu, etc.  Then you won't have to deal

The temp internet folder is usually buried in your user folder under My 
documents, however it's been a few weeks since I dug around in windows 
and my memory banks are flat out trying to work out Linux. Easiest thing 
is to go back to the download website and click on the download link. 
This should bring up the window where it will tell you the file name and 
the location of the temp folder (you have to follow the directory tree 
up to figure out the path)

I couldn't find anything about advanced option on search on this version of 
WinXP.  I agree, Microsoft has always sucked.  I'm moving to Linux slowly as 
I learn.
