I've always been somewhat baffled by the file type settings, so wanted
to be sure I have this right.

I set the Spotty file types as in post #9 here, in other words...

35243

So, playing Spotty on my SB3 or Radio or DAC32 and choosing info shows
"OGG VORBIS (SPOTIFY) (CONVERTED TO PCM)".

Is that correct? Is PCM better than FLAC?

Also, the few times I've played Spotty on any of those players, the
first seconds have stuttered somewhat, and then settled down, which it's
not done before I changed these settings. Doesn't seem like coincidence,
does it?

This was from a while ago, when I first saw this thread about the Radio
firmware. I followed Michael's advice and did nothing, as nothing seemed
broken on my Radio.

Today, however, while looking for something else in LMS's web UI, I
noticed this message in Information...

<< You seem to be using a Radio with an outdated firmware, not
recognizing this version of Logitech Media Server. Please consider
patching it. >>

Should I, indeed, reconsider? Radio is working perfectly well, still.

I've got a Radio and so this thread intrigued me. Like tw99, though, I

Interesting.

I realise this is a bit off-topic here, but you have me wondering now
about the repository function. So I looked in the Settings for LMS in my

That's surprising to me. I thought I had to add a repository if I wanted
any plugin to offer updates. I did not know that the 3rd party list was
in effect a repo! Oh well, live and learn. Was this info available and I
just missed it or didn't taker it in?

Michael, thanks. So I was indeed missing something obvious! I'd been
hunting every which where in Spotty with the suspicion that there must
be something as useful as a shuffle setting somewhere. It didn't occur
to look "outside", as it were, in LMS. Now I know. I still yearn for a
place where all these things could be looked up. You know, like an old
fashioned (and much missed) manual. But at least we have this forum,
which is a goldmine, and helpful guides like yourself. Thank you, once

Leftchannel, those RP forum items you linked to certainly imply that
increased use of RP might be a factor here.

For me (Virgin ISP in UK) things were a little better yesterday (Wed

but Interactive still very wobbly. The MP3 320 feed was still fine.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce - Song info plugin for ABC Australia radio

2020-05-03 Thread whitman

Paul, thanks for this. Especially useful for me, because I had no idea
about ABC. I've just tried the jazz and classical stations, and all
working fine, apparently timely and accurate.

(I also tried your new KCRW what-are-they-playing plugin; I already knew
about KCRW Eclectic, which I love when I'm in ther right mood, and
again, all apparently working fine and accurately.)

To my taste, the ABC jazz and classical stations have good content, if a
little heavy at times.

Which leads me to a separate, related point. The ABC plugin made it
clear to me that there are still plenty of good (=to my taste) stations
out there I don't know about. I wonder which of the forums here would be
the place to get some other suggestions going, where we might share info
on some good 'uns? I'd be happy to start a conversation about jazz
stations, for example.

Thanks again, Paul: two very helpful new plugins.

Ah, good, you had me confused there.

What repo URL should I have for BBC iPlayer? For your things I currently
have

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/V154testrelease-repo.xml

and

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/iheartradio-repo.xml

and am not being offered the 1.6.1 update.

Bpa, I saw in the dead "BBCiPlayer plugin - a guick fix guide" thread
you said yesterday << V2.1.0 of the BBCIplayer plugin is the latest. Use
this URL.
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pro...lease-repo.xml >>. I'm still
using 1.6.0, should I switch to 2.1.0?

well ... and I have my FIP track/artist readouts back!

Michael, the SSL bit of code returns this:

1.966Antonys-Mac-mini:~ MINI$

The perl bit of code returns this:

This is perl 5, version 18, subversion 2 (v5.18.2) built for
darwin-thread-multi-2level
(with 2 registered patches, see perl -V for more detail)
[plus some legal]

I'm running macOS 10.13.3, in other words the latest, on my Mac mini.

Do you still advise me to go to LMS 7.9.1? I've stuck with 7.9.0 because
I'm generally wary of betas, but I'll be guided by you.

I didn't explain properly. I chopped off the http bit in the url in -my

Anyway, to clarify, my question is, given all the urls swirling around
here, what is the definitive url that I should have in my repo for BBC

BBC iPlayer Extras -- presumably both applicable from tomorrow.

What repo URL do I need to get 1.5.4.5? Do I understand from what you

And while I'm on ... how about Extras? I don't seem to have anything in

So, I carry on with 1.5.4.* and its repo, but keep an eye open for when
the beta repo delivers the stable 1.5.4 (how will i know this?), and

Bpa, I've had the 1.5.4 repo in place for a while, currently using
1.5.4.4 (and Extras 2.0.0). To follow your advice here, sounds like I
should switch to the beta repo (I won't actually be listening to Proms

For me, using Safari 10.1.1 on MacOS 10.12.5, it's still the case that
if you right-click on a shortened url in this forum and choose the only
relevant option, "Copy Link", and then paste it somewhere, you get just
the shortened version. Do it in Chrome or Opera, and you're offered
"Copy Link Address", and in Firefox "Copy Link Location", and that will
deliver the full url when you paste. Bit of a shortcoming in Safari, in
fact.

Paul, 1.8 seems to deliver the track info etc more consistently. Good
stuff!
Still seemingly pretty random in terms of quality, mostly either 128 or
192 MP3s.

Paul, sorry, but a lot of that is over my head.

I'm working either with LMS through web browser to set URLs for
Favorites and thence to the SB3 interface. Not "command line". So what
URL do I use to get those 192k feeds? And/or are you implying that it's
still better to go in via TuneIn?

I'm also getting 128 kbps MP3 from those pdf URLs, and they sound good.

The two autour-du channels I've listened to (also using the pdf URLs),
jazz and rock, sound less good and are lower level. And the "more info"
on my SB3 curiously does not provide a bitrate entry for these. But to
my ears, less good.

Paul, I've been noticing that about the absence of readouts during the
lovely jazzafip section, too.

However ... if you switch to one of the regional feeds during jazzafip
-- I've been using Strasbourg since our chum lopasilver posted that pdf
of URLs -- you'll find that the artist and song readouts appear.

This seems to be a workaround until your "ideas" take shape, I think.

(And no, my French didn't suddenly improve ... I cheated with Google
Translate.)

2017-02-05 Thread whitman

Paul, just wanted to thank you for this plugin.

I stumbled on FIP toward the end of last year and I love the main
station. The one thing lacking, given my rudimentary French, was a
readout of artist and title ... and now you've filled that gap. I didn't
know about your earlier plugin, but this new one is a godsend.

I've now added the jazz stream and the rock stream to my faves, but the
main FIP station remains my real fave. Even if I don’t grasp much of the
banter from the presenters, the girls all sound sexy and the boys all
unshaven. Or is the other way around? Anyway, such an eclectic (yes,
éclectique!) mix of music. Right up my street.

This is what Squeezebox has always been about and hopefully always will.

Thank you!

Bpa, I still can't get many shows via BBCiPlayer Extras (I'm using
1.9.3). I'm using the workaround you suggested above: in other words, go
in via BBCiPlayer (I'm using 1.4.9).

But I noticed this thread ...

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?106504-Iplayer-Extra-only-working-when-Dash-is-Disabled

... which seems to highlight the same or similar problem, and arising
more or less at the same date mine did. So I tried ticking the Enable
box for "do not want DASH streams" in Extras settings, as outlined in
that thread. Now, indeed, shows play well via Extras.

Thought I'd post this as it might help draw further conclusions.

Interesting. I didn't know I could get On Demand through BBCiPlayer.
I've always used Extras for that.

Anyway, I just tried BBCiPlayer as follows: BBCiPlayer>BBC Radio
2>Saturday>08:05 Sounds Of The 60s, and that does play the show. So at
least I know I can use that successfully.

I was trying (the route I've always used) BBCiPlayerExtras>Radio 2 A-Z>S
programs>Sounds Of The 60s>Sounds of the 60s 19/11/16, and that still
gives "Playlist Empty".

My current settings are:

BBCiPlayer
Live: DASH/HLS/MP3/FlashAAC
On Demand: DASH/HLS/MP3/FlashAAC

BBCiPlayer Extras
Select if you do not want DASH streams: unchecked

Thanks Bpa.

I've fiddled with a few settings for On demand, because there's nothing
exactly as you suggested.

This could be a coincidence, but I'm now getting "Playlist Empty" when I
try to connect to some shows On Demand. To see if it is indeed
coincidence and the Beeb are up to something, before I try other stuff,
could someone check to see if they can play Radio 2's Sounds Of The 60s
for 19th Nov? That's one I'm getting "Playlist Empty" when I try to
connect On Demand. (I'm in the UK.)

I've had a further think, Bpa, and for now I'll continue with iPlayer
1.4.9 and Extras 1.9.3 (despite the fact I have your "report-short"
repository in the Additional Repositories slot, Extras hasn't been
updated to 1.9.5: should it?).

I've changed the settings for Live (actually has to be this way around:
DASH > HLS > MP3 > FlashAAC) and In Demand as you instructed. I don't
think I've seen clear instructions anywhere for what these settings
should be in various circumstances, so I was never quite sure what they
ought to be.

I'll install 1.5.x when it comes out of beta.

Thanks for all your help with this, Bpa.

BPA, I think I might try the 1.5.2 beta test on my Mac after all.

Can I just check a few things?

Currently I have BBC iPlayer v1.4.9, and BBC iPlayer Extras v1.9.3. In

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/bpaplugins/repo-short.xml

My settings for BBC iPlayer are ...

21515

Two questions. Is everything I've noted correct? How do I install the
beta test?

sure, just guessing.

But anyway, I really could do with some help if anyone has some

Mac user here, OS 10.12.1, LMS 7.9.0.

I keep the Superdatetime folder, as downloaded from Boomx2 on this
thread (current version, 5.9.34), in
Library/Caches/Squeezebox/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/.

Recently, whenever I reboot the computer, SDT vanishes from that folder
and, therefore, from LMS.

As a workaround, I can of course download it again, put it in the
folder, and get it back and working, but obviously something is not
right.

Any suggestions?

OK, thanks bpa: I changed the BBC iPlayer settings, On Demand Stream
Preference, to HLS > DASH > MP3 > FlashAAC > FlashMP3, and all seems to
be working now.

Is that the best setting to use? I'm a bit baffled by the long list of
formats there. Do I need them all? There are certainly shorter lists in
the options.

The only reason I can think for having these DASH versions is that I did
change the bpa repository a while back, because I read a post here that
I thought implied I ought to. I didn't intend to have the DASH versions.
But ... now I have them, I suppose I can celebrate being a member of the

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer Extras - problem?

2016-03-28 Thread whitman

Bpa ...

I get shows from today. Fail.

Schedules fail, categories fail, A-Zs fail.

The "On Demand Stream Preference" in the BBCiPlayer plugin reads HLS >
MP3 > FlashAAC > Flash MP3.

The only general change on my Mac recently has been that I've updated
from OSX El Capitan 10.11.3 to 10.11.4.

Puzzling.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer Extras - problem?

2016-03-27 Thread whitman

I'm still using the non-Dash version of bpa's BBC iPlayer Extras plugin.
Nothing doing today: not a single show will play. Before I dig deeper,
is anyone else having problems ... or is it just me?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Jazz FM changed again!

2016-03-15 Thread whitman

Frozzers, thanks for showing the way. Thing is, to be honest I rarely
use the web view, so I didn't go far enough. But as slim-maikel says,
it's those extra steps that deter. Anyway, I'll be sticking with TuneIn
Radio and iPeng for now, as that's easy and clear.

I can't "click" on anything on my SB3s or in the web view, but iPeng
came to the rescue: once I was into TuneIn Radio there and thence into
Jazz FM and catchup, the shows were listed with broadcast dates, so very
easy to play the precise episodes I want.

This way of using TuneIn Radio seems to me a lot easier than all the
kerfuffle with scraping and whatnot. But one man's scraping is another's
... fun, presumably.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Jazz FM changed again!

2016-03-08 Thread whitman

Frozzers, the Tunein Radio scheme is very useful.

Like others here, I have the Tunein app but, er ... never really looked
at it.

I've been trying to find a way to get back into Jazz FM playback for
ages. (I posted a few times earlier in this thread.)

The only negative I can see for now with using Tunein is that once
you're into Jazz FM's playback list, there's no extra info there beyond
the name of the show. For example, I like to listen to Helen Mayhew's or
Sarah Ward's Dinner Jazz show, so it would be really nice to know what
date the three or four shows listed are. I can't see that info. So it's
a bit ... random.

Nonetheless, great to be able once again to get into Jazz FM's playback
stuff. Thanks!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: SuperDateTime - Current Date/Temperature and/or Baseball Screensaver

2015-10-25 Thread whitman

I've come adrift from SDT (or is it the other way around?).

I've just updated my Mac to Hello My Captain 10.11.1, and after a few
updates and so on to bits of LMS, my SDT seems to have settled on
5.9.16.

But I know late last year I updated to a tcutting new version from this
forum, at least 5.10.something, I think. Not sure. Can someone tell me
what the latest version is and where in this l-o-n-g thread I can find
it? I want the plain-jane version, not the wunderground one.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-06-09 Thread whitman

Well here's a simple thing I hadn't thought of. I was convinced the
rebuffering was limited to the two iPlayers, and then about a week ago I
suffered a severe bout of rebuffering while listening to Radio Paradise:
a first for me, as far as I recall. Sod this, I thought, I'm going to
adopt the IT Crowd approach, in other words I turned it off and turned
it on again. After rebooting my main Squeezebox Classic ... no more
rebuffering on iPlayers. Fingers crossed. Weird, no?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-05-06 Thread whitman

Giza, I don't know what an uPNP is, so I can't imagine I have one. And
there's nothing else trying to get on the network at the times of my
rebuffering events.

Neil, I checked the Logitech Media Server Log File, and no error
messages, and nothing else at the time of this evening's rebuferring
events. All I see for this evening were two logs around the time I
switched on to listen to a R2 Listen Again show via BBC iPlayer Extras
...

[15-05-06 18:43:58.8485]
Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraPlayableParser::parse (146) Extra
Playable playlist URL
=http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05t2dj9/playlist.json
[15-05-06 19:02:27.7371]
Plugins::BBCiPlayerExtra::ExtraPlayableParser::parse (146) Extra
Playable playlist URL
=http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05ss73q/playlist.json

The rebufferings began to happen about 20 minutes after that second log
there, around 7:15, and then regularly from about 7:25. I gave up
shortly after that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-05-03 Thread whitman

My listening, mostly On Demand via BBC Extras, still plagued with
rebuffering. This evening, for example, tried listening to Clare Teal,
R2 26-4-15, and died after a minute or so, so I restarted the stream,
successfully this time, but then rebuffering constantly after 20 minutes
or so.

Again, if it would help sort this out, I could provide a log, but I'd
need some guidance as it's ages since I've done that.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Jazz FM changed again!

2015-04-22 Thread whitman

In case anyone's still interested, I contacted Jazz FM and asked if they
could come up with new URLs.

Their first response was ...

Responsibility for the server side stuff for all streaming
on-demand is now with Sharpstream. ... We stopped using those set of
links in December – and now each programme has an unique mp3 stream
(this is to do with how they are set to record) – waiting to hear back
from Sharpstream if we can get a set of URLs up and running again.

And now, a few months later ...

Apologies – just chased Sharp Stream on this and unfortunately at the
moment they don’t have this feature available – now we’ve flagged it up
it’s something they will look into developing as and when they launch
other new features – however for the time being there is no date set for
this.

Oh well.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-04-16 Thread whitman

Oh well, so much for that theory.

Went to Extras this evening, around 6:45pm, and played the Listen Again
stream of this week's Jamie Cullum show, R2.

OK for about 40 minutes, then rebuffered very briefly, once. Just a
jitter, I thought.

Then about five minutes later, a rebuffering, then five more, one after
the other, in short order.

It then played fine for another five minutes or so, at which point I
turned off.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] BBC iPlayer rebuffering

2015-04-15 Thread whitman

Well, some interesting behaviour this evening.

First, around 6:30pm, I started Bob Harris On Sunday, R2, BBCiPlayer.
Stopped dead after about 6 minutes. Immediately restarted it, from the
beginning: stopped dead about 8 minutes in. Not rebuffering: just a dead
stop.

Went to BBCiPlayer Extras and started the same show. Ran absolutely fine
for 45 minutes or so, until I stopped it myself.

About 7:15pm, started Jazz Lineup, R3, on BBC iPlayer. Ran perfectly,
for 45 minutes or so until I stopped it myself.

About 8:00pm, started Clare Teal, R2, on BBCiPlayer. After 15 minutes or
so, it stopped dead. Again, no rebuffering, just a sudden halt.

For what it's worth ...
