- But D&D perl5.18 into Full Disk Access solved this for me as well. There is no XML file until Music exports it. What I saw before was related to scripting things ... so I had another look and found this https://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?pid=201433 My guess is that a Mac specialist (probably in a Mac forum) would be able to help tweak/simplify things since if it can be made to export in the iTunes XML format then it will still work with LMS. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
I'm also on 10.15.7 mac os and while my LMS sees all my music from the new music app location it fails to find my playlists although they appear in the Music application. I was running LMS 7.9 and tried to follow the steps others have taken; I gave perl and bash full disk access along with 5.18 but same results. Everything is ok except the playlists. I tried disabling the iTunes plugin but that made no difference. I got a couple of fatal errors in LMS about two instances of LMS running in the system but that seems to have cleared up. I created a library export from the Music app which creates an xml file which I placed in the Music folder, rescanned but no change other than the scan say there are over 2 thousand playlists (when in fact there are 196) but still shows no playlists. So I'm at a loss. I feel like an english major in a crowd of pre med students, expected to know more than I reasonably could. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
I am on MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 and use Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.3 - 1597753178. I had the same issue as described by many users since on latest Catalina release: library (which is located on external USB drive) looks empty, scanning shows 0 files. I gave full disk access to perl, bash, sh and smbd as described in quote below. After that, I restart LMS and I can scan my library and read files, all good. The problem is that after rebooting the mac, LMS seems to lose full disk access again: impossible to read files... In the security pane, the full disk access seems to be still there... I have to delete perl, bash, sh and smbd full disk access there and put it back, then it works... until next reboot. Any ideas? Nope! Starting over with a TimeMachine restore from beginning of September. Once that's done I'll load LMS 7.9.3 and leave it there. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
For a while now, I've been experiencing this issue with LMS not having access to my media stored on a removable volume on my Mac. The issue occurs after logging into the my account after reboot. The LMS prefs panel is set to start LMS on Login. But LMS is never running upon login, so I start it manually via the LMS prefs panel. Everything should be fine now, but no... When I try to play something, all the tracks are skipped, because: Code: [20-09-25 11:46:12.8217] Slim::Player::Protocols::File::open (101) Error: could not open /Volumes/Media/Audio/Music/Radiohead/Amnesiac/01 Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box.flac: Operation not permitted [20-09-25 11:46:12.8218] Slim::Player::Song::open (472) Warning: stream failed to open [file:///Volumes/Media/Audio/Music/Radiohead/Amnesiac/01%20Packt%20Like%20Sardines%20in%20a%20Crushd%20Tin%20Box.flac]. Both perl and bash have Full Disk Access granted. Michael suggested granting perl5.18 access, but this doesn't appear to be possible in the Full Disk Access prefs dialog. Both perl and perl5.18 appear to be the same version, and have the same compilation options, yet differ in size: 31690 So what I have to do now is Stop LMS via the LMS control prefs panel, and then Start it manually. Then tracks play fine. I'm not sure what to look for now, and why these issues are occurring: 1. Why doesn't LMS start when I login, as per the LMS prefs? 2. Why after LMS first starts does it not have access to the media, yet does after a second Stop/Start cycle? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
I've been running LMS 7.7.5 on a MacMini for over three years and have just upgraded to MacOS Catalina. After granting Full Disk Access to Perl everything seems to be running OK with the exception of the preferences pane. When I click on 'Logitech Media Server' in Settings I get the message: "Preferences Error: Could not load Logitech Media Server preference pane.". If I use the "About this Mac" System Report then the preferences pane shows up as a 32/64 bit executable so presumably it's not the withdrawn 32 bit support that's the problem. (I've also granted Full Disk Access to /usr/bin/bashbug.) Any ideas ? Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
Here's a new one. For all versions of LMS later than 7.9.3-1596358162 (Aug 3, 2020) I lose all LMS permissions to access the external drive containing my Media Folder. Deleting and re-selecting permissions for perl and bash after a later build install and reboot do not restore the permissions. Running the usual terminal commands 'sudo mkdir -p ~/Library/Logs/Squeezebox' & 'sudo chown $USER ~/Library/Logs/Squeezebox' don't help either. But rolling back the installation to 7.9.3-1596358162 always restores full permissions. So for now, I am trapped at that build version. Hi all, I've owned an old Squeezebox for at least ten years, and managed to keep it running through several iMacs and updates. I took my SB with me when I went back to the US (from Canada) a few weeks ago. I can't get it running with this MacBookPro laptop and external 4TB LaCie hard drive. I KNOW it's some kind of permissions issue. LMS won't scan the disk. The disk is set to 'share'. I've entered the terminal script I found while digging in these threads. In Security & Privacy, perl and smbd are set for Full Disk Access. Before I left Canada, it was running, on an IMac which was running Catalina. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
Thanks to all of you for this thread. I cling desperately to my Logitech Boom from over 10 years ago, which has been my constant music companion in my kitchen since then. Best tech product I have ever had along with the Palm Treo. Strangely, my setup seemed to be working on Catalina until recently, but in a frozen state, meaning none of the new music I had added since Catalina was being added to LMS. This was likely due to the in-place upgrade to Catalina that left my old iTunes Library xml file where it was, although it no longer updated. Last week I wiped and completely re-installed my MacMini from scratch, something I had not done since I got it in 2012. I carefully backed up all of my files, with the intention of only using them if something went wrong. I didnt pay attention to the LMS settings at all until it didnt work at all after the re-install. Thanks to this thread I am now back in business,. If you are just arriving in this thread, what worked for me was: 1. Following Mr. Cs suggestion on Page 5 of this forum and using Cmd+Shift+G to add the perl and bash (for me it was bashbug) to Full Disk Access in System Preferences. That process also added the smbd process, but somehow automatically. 2. I followed several of the suggestions and exported the Music Library manually to an XML file which I pointed LMS to. I renamed it iTunes Library.xml, recreated the /Music/iTunes/ folder on my Mac and put the file there. 3. I clicked Use iTunes in the LMS preferences and since all of my music is on an external disk, I pointed LMS to that folder. For playlists, I pointed LMS to the aforementioned /Music/iTunes/ folder on my Mac. Thanks again to all of you. Evan, it's a fair point you make. That's another reason I'm not speeding to the update... there's nothing in Catalina that makes me think wow, I must have that! The reason I've gone along with updates in the past was because, even if they didn't have features that were particularly attractive to me (and some of the updates certainly did), they did at least come with the latest set of fixes and improvements in general. I think much of the problem, if that's what it is, comes from Apple painting itself into a corner where they have to do a so-called "major" update to the various operating systems every year. Used to be they simply offered an update when they had a batch of new things ready to go. Anyway, Catalina's the first time I've hesitated. Why that soon? There've been times when I've been two or three software versions behind, sometimes because of hardware (an unsupported iMac that still functioned perfectly), other times because of software. Once security updates are no longer provided, it's probably wise to run some sort of anti-virus, but every time a new MacOS comes out I always ask "Is there any new feature here I actually need?" Currently I'm still on 10.13 because I didn't seen anything particularly compelling for me in 10.14; I've got copies of the Mojave and Catalina installers stored locally here, but right now everything I use my Mac for continues to work, so I don't see much of a reason to upgrade other just because it's more convenient for Apple. The log says it is ("[19-12-03 12:12:34.0015] Slim::Plugin::PreventStandby::Plugin::checkClientActivity (146) Preventing System Standby " but pmset -g doesn't indicate that caffeinate is preventing sleep. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
Sorry about starting a new thread (missed this), but I'll ask the question here: Just upgraded to macOS Catalina Trying to get LMS from preventing sleep. Had this problem with El Capitain, and resolved it with sudo nvram boot-args="darkwake=0", but this is not working with Catalina The prevent sleep plugin says: "...It will also prevent the system from prematurely going into standby two minutes after wake-on-lan." Catalina is going back to sleep in under 2 minutes after a WOL. Could this plug-in be updated to allow the user to reduce the above? Any other suggestions appreciated (other than keeping the mac on 24/7) Tony SBTouch ♪ SBRadio ♬ Tony T's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=34544 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111037 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

My original setup was LMS on a Mac Mini running OSX High Sierra. The Music media is stored on a external drive. I was using iTunes for music management, playlists, etc. This has been working well for years, and has not changed until the issue with Catalina. Well... Catalina got rid of iTunes. And the new music app does not export the XML file LMS uses for the integration any more. Workarounds have been discussed here. Export playlists from where? I attempted to export the playlists manually as both M3U and XML files That's not the "where from", but the "where to". I guess you tried to export from iTunes/Music? What would a m3u look like? Where did you store them? Thanks Michael - should have started with that. My original setup was LMS on a Mac Mini running OSX High Sierra. The Music media is stored on a external drive. I was using iTunes for music management, playlists, etc. This has been working well for years, and has not changed until the issue with Catalina. Even then, I have not completed any fresh installs, only updates. I have never had any issues at all until the OSX Update. I was able to use this forum to enable both Sh and Bash and my media library is now intact, except for playlists - which list the names, but do not have any tracks. One note of emphasis - which may be causing the issue. Because I have changed so many file paths for playlists in attempt to fix the issue, I do not have record of my original settings of where playlists should be located. mherger wrote: > >>> Export playlists from where? I've started reviewing this thread but am a little bit confused. Is there a sum/TL-DR update anyone can provide? Are we relying on the XML export capability from the new Music App in Catalina for LMS to continue to work with a music library or is some dynamic update capability a possibility? I have LMS running on a Windows 10 box and build my library from an XML I pull from iTunes on my Mac. I use my Mac to manage all of my music which resides on a Synology NAS. I could just as easily pivot to running LMS on the Synology box assuming I could get it to work. The one obvious "debug" aid I had was that it was impossible to browse a volume or sub-tree if LMS had no permission, so it was just a matter of trial and error to figure out which executables needed permission. Not something many will be able to accomplish. Maybe there needs to be a single "wrapper" program that is called for the various services LMS is required to accomplish, and the installer will need to prompt users to enable the various permissions. Catalina may have hardened the OS environment out of the box, but it certainly has made life much more difficult for developers and end-users. Yes. I'd like to figure out whether there was a way to make macOS bring up the "allow access?" prompt programmatically. I was wondering whether I don't see it because I had been running early betas already. Ok, I got something. Found a command to reset all those settings. But things are complicated... depending on how LMS got started, the application requesting permissions would vary - if it asked at all. - when asked right after installation, the prompt would ask whether you'd like to give the installer permission to access a network drive or whatever. But as soon as you restarted LMS that would no longer work, as the installer would no longer be the "owner" of the process. - when started from the control panel, the owner would be bash (or sh in older versions of LMS). Alas, these tools seem to not ask for permission. - when started automatically at system startup, the launch item would launch slimserver.pl directly, rather than the helper script used by the control panel. That's why you'll need to give the perl executable full access. But like bash it's not asking for it... - I'm mostly running LMS from the terminal, as I'm only developing on Mac. That's why I never was asked for permissions: the first time I launched the terminal I was asked for full disk access. LMS would inherit these, as it's owned by the terminal. My situation: - Have just upgraded to Catalina - Source music library is on a NAS - Library scans fail, and after a "Clear library and rescan everything" I am left with an empty LMS library - LMS itself seems to be operating normally, eg able to play internet radio, and LMS UI if fine, just no music in the LMS library - From scanner log: [9-10-31 18:59:41.4219] Slim::Music::Import::runImporter (511) Starting Slim::Media::MediaFolderScan scan [19-10-31 18:59:41.4225] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::rescan (181) Discovering audio files in /Volumes/XXX/iTunes Media [19-10-31 18:59:41.4756] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Local::Async::__ANON__ (71) Error scanning file or folder: /Volumes/XXX/iTunes Media: Operation not permitted The error scanning the NAS volume would seem to be, based on the conversation in this thread, a permissions issue. Posts in the thread indicate it is resolved by allowing perl to have "Full Disk Access". Furthermore, a post indicates that "Applications will dynamically appear in the Full Disk Access pane as LMS goes through its processes." BUT: I have not been able to get perl to "dynamically appear" in the Full Disk Access pane, or find any other way to assign perl Full Disk Access. (For example I have tried having System Preference open to that pane, with the pane unlocked, and running a rescan in the web UI, but no sign of perl dynamically appearing.) Can anyone inform me how to give perl Full Disk Access based on my situation. Thanks in advance. After a few initial glitches mine is BAU, no problems running under Catalina. I deleted lots of applications that would no longer run under Catalina but I wasnt actually using them, apart from occasionally using MS Word, which I dont really miss. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
Catalina is by far my worst experience with Mac OS. This issue alone has resulted in my moving LMS over to a Raspberry Pi solution running the Max2Play software(LMS and Squeezelite in one box). Even after that, Disk Utility in Catalina destroyed a perfectly good micro SD Card on format and I've now regressed to Mojave just to have full functionality of my iMac. Ridiculous. On the other hand, The Raspberry Pi solution is pretty decent. Theres some latency issues while a hard drive spins up before an initial selection plays but other than that it's doable. The biggest issue is running two libraries and getting new music onto the LMS installation via network. It'll do for now. The Max2Play software(free) is new to me and I much prefer it to DietPi. Once you find the IP address you can log in and set it up remotely(super nice). It's a continuing permissions issue with Catalina. I'm not sure it can be fixed with an LMS revision. But a revised Terminal script app might do it. You need to go into System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Full Disk Access, and allow certain LMS subroutines Full Disk Access as a permanent setting. The two I identified as they ghost appeared in the FDA pane were "sh" and "perl". But others are apparently having problems seeing them pop up in the running FDA pane. That behavior I cannot explain. The good news is once the correct FDA permission is given, you never have to do it again, and LMS starts and re-starts and runs with no further issues. sgmlaw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13995 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111037 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Once the right permissions are given, LMS runs very smoothly under it -- and seems to keep running well thereafter. Since getting things straight under Catalina, I've installed some subsequent nightly beta updates (thank you Michael!). No problems whatsoever. So it looks like a once-and-done process to work out those permissions. Sorry to hear you had to struggle with it. Giving System Preferences generally full disk access is probably a bigger security opening than you need. But if it works, who's to argue. sgmlaw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13995 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111037 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
Since a few days I use mac OS Catalina. LMS works, but not for long. The library loads, but is no longer accessible after a few hours. And after that, LMS doesn't scan anymore. When I re-install LMS 7.9.2 everything works just fine for a few hours. I have read the thread and given full disk access perl. What more can I do? That's correct, it's not part of 7.7.6. I should probably update 7.7.7. I backported the changes from 7.9 to 7.7.7. That's odd - I just reinstalled LMS version 7.7.6 and didn't get a darwin-x86_64 folder. Hmmm. What's the full path of your 64-bit folder? That's correct, it's not part of 7.7.6. I should probably update 7.7.7. But then I'd recommend to use 7.9 anyway :-). http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.9 -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
listen to some music while I figure out databases etc., I tried pointing LMS's "Music Folder" to my Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder, and lo-and-behold, it worked great. Yes, I wanted to point this out: you don't need LMS to scan iTunes library just for the music files. It's more if you want to use its playlists that you'll be missing the automatic integration right now. You should still be able to point LMS at the actual music files and scan that folder instead. The other thing Catalina does is deprecate all 32 bit executables. This interferes with LMS's ability to on-the-fly convert file formats. These converters (on my system) are in /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin. There's a darwin-x86_64 folder, too. This should provide most 64 bit binaries. According to Settings>>Advanced>>File types, SLS is used for MPEG-4 SLS/HD-AAC files. Not sure if I have any of those, or how I'd check. Heh... I was wondering, too. Had to google what it even was. But most likely you won't need it. -- Michael ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

I just (perhaps foolishly) upgraded my LMS server to Catalina. Indeed iTunes import isn't working well. My library size even thwarts the manual "Export Library" to XML workaround. As a last resort, so I can listen to some music while I figure out databases etc., I tried pointing LMS's "Music Folder" to my Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder, and lo-and-behold, it worked great. The other thing Catalina does is deprecate all 32 bit executables. This interferes with LMS's ability to on-the-fly convert file formats. These converters (on my system) are in /Library/PreferencePanes/Squeezebox.prefPane/Contents/server/Bin/darwin. I used homebrew to install 64-bit versions of most of them - faad, mac, sox, flac, all have easy replacements, and I removed the 32-bit versions from the prefPane, and replaced them with symlinks to the homebrew executables in /usr/local/bin. There is one missing one, though: "sls", which is proprietary by Fraunhofer. Strings on that binary says this: Code: MPEG-4 SLS / HD-AAC Decoder (c) 2006-2009 Fraunhofer IIS Erlangen (build: %s) All Rights Reserved. This build is for use with Squeezebox Server only. This software and/or program is protected by copyright law and international treaties. Any reproduction or distribution of this software and/or program, or any portion of it, may result in severe civil and criminal penalties, and will be prosecuted to the maximum extent possible under law. According to Settings>>Advanced>>File types, SLS is used for MPEG-4 SLS/HD-AAC files. Not sure if I have any of those, or how I'd check. Anyway, I'm happily listening to my library again, with only a little inconvenience. Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] LMS on MacOS 10.15 "Catalina"?
I'm still puzzled by this... I never was asked to change anything there, nor do I see sh or perl in those lists! Did you update to Catalina from an earlier macOS, or is this a new system? -- Michael Michael, No, you do not receive any direct alert or notification prompts to change anything in Catalina as LMS starts. LMS will simply not entirely function. The extent of non-function likely will depend on which permissions are still lacking in the particular system. In my case, my Media Library disappeared, as LMS could no longer access it on an external volume. That is typically a file permissions issue. This was an upgrade situation, from Mojave to Catalina. Not a clean install, not a new system. So in my implementation, the earlier terminal permissions script had already been run under Mojave. And I do not enable a software firewall in my system. So I could stream internet radio and access all the clients after the upgrade to Catalina. But in my install, Catalina would not allow LMS to access local data volumes. So in addition to the earlier terminal script commands under Mojave to elevate some permissions, I also needed to open and change settings in the Full Disc Access pane with Catalina. With the Full Disc Access pane open in System Preferences, as LMS starts, you will see apps start to appear, as they seek disc access, for which they do not yet have permissions. You have to manually go into the Full Disc Access pane and check them off as they appear. In my instance, two apps popped up as LMS started: perl and sh. Once both were given Full Disc Access, I recovered full LMS functionality, and access to my Media Library folders on an external volume was then permitted. All is now well again. The only lingering issue I am having involves two third-party plugins, which I have already identified. One is an obvious 32-bit issue, the other easily resolved with a manual restart of that plugin. Both developers appear to be aware of the issues. Again, this file access issue is not novel, only the scope of it has changed. I had encountered it before under Mojave with third-party backup solutions accessing OS-level folders. Now under Catalina, disk access permissions have become more aggressively applied across all volumes. So the prior experience under Mojave informed me where to check first. I hope that clarifies things for those experiencing disappearing libraries under Catalina. sgmlaw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13995 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111037 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
