Your guess that the BFO is positioned inside the filter passbaad is

Do you have the SSB FL1 filter set to OP1? If not, try that first.
Many times the filter on the RF Board (used for more narrow filter

Go back to the filter alignment and look at the BFOs for each filter
(you may look either at the DAC values or at the frequency). If the
settings for LSB are the same as you have for USB, then you have the
BFOs set to the wrong sideband. Use 40 meters for this test so there is
no confusion
I used my K3 to transmit a USB/LSB on all bands except for 10m. The only two
bands that I could receive a readable SSB signal was on 20m and 17m. I tried
USB and LSB on all other bands and could not receive a readable signal. I
used my S-Meter to adjust the frequency on the signal in which I did n
Is your reference to "21m" a typo instead of 20m, or are you referring
to the 21 MHz band which is 15m.
Are you choosing USB for the 20m, 17m, 15m, 12m and 10m bands?.
How does the LSB signals on 80m and 40m sound?
The sideband inversion Geoff mentioned is such that on 15m, 12m and 10m,

I shouldn't have used the word distortion. The SSB stations are completely
unreadable, very similar to a narrow filter.

This may or may not be relevant but low side mixing is used on 15m, 12m and
10m where distortion is heard, and high side mixing on the lower frequency
bands where distortion is not heard.

I am sorry I should have mentioned I have the KSB2 SSB board installed. I
followed the K2 Dial calibration procedures on your website to verify
everything is aligned properly and it is. I checked for SSB reception on 21m
and 12m and the SSB audio is still distorted. All other bands work below

I am going to make 2 assumptions - correct me if they are wrong.
1) You do not have the KSB2 installed with its fixed 2.4 kHz width
filter, and you are attempting to use the variable IF filter at wide widths.
2) Your K2 has a serial number somewhere near 6800.
If those conditions are true, the
I recently finished aligning my K2 with the spectrogram software and with the
procedures from Elecraft. I am able to receive SSB on all bands except on
21m and 12m. The SSB signal is very distorted and sounds like the filter is
not wide enough to receive the SSB signal. I completed all of the

Hello Elecrafters,
A friend told me that if I install the K6XX CW Indicator in my K2, the display
will also blink in SSB mode. My question: Is there a way or a modification
which would de-activate the indicator when working in SSB mode?

Curt,
Do you have any mods installed on the KSB2 - most particularly the KI6WX
Increased SSB RF Gain mod?
That mod requires changes to the KSB2 ALC circuit which were not known
when the original mod was documented.

Curt,
The answer is "yes", although I suspect that you are not going to like it.
If you are getting Hi Cur warnings on SSB, I suspect that you have
something wrong on CW as well.
normally HiCur warnings are associated with T4 or the Low Pass Filter -
or low power supply voltage.
Is this conf
I built and installed the KSB2 into my K2 awhile ago, rarely use it. Today,
used it for SS on 15M and it seemed to work OK. But, with power setting
much above 5W, would get the Hi Cur warning. SSBA is 1, SSBC is 2-1, and
microphone is Elecraft MH2. Is there a better way to optimize the setti
Sanjin,
You may have some problem with the K2 VRFDET circuit - make certain the
power displayed by the K2 during a TUNE is close to the actual power
being developed. Do that both with the base K2 (no KPA100 physically
attached), and with the KPA100 attached.
If the actual power from the KPA100
Hello Don, hello Peter,
I tried the mod suggested by Peter but it did not really help. It seems to
me that the ALC action is now somewhat better without the KPA100 attached
but I am still not really sure about that - will check again.
Don do you have any other suggestions what I could try to do
