No One Controller can handle all the VSWITCHES you may want to create. I would
create at least to Controller and code all your VSwitch definitions with a

The HMC or SE has the ability to do this, or used to so a ESCON port could be
sparred over to another port.
That way you did not have to code it in the IOCP.

you define the CHPID, CONTROL UNIT, and DECIVICES without regard for the

Be careful an IODF is different than the IOCDS for HSA.
An IODF is a file that gets put on your PARM disk and is referenced in your

When VM is using an IODF and MVS is on the box doesn't the changes show up in
VM when the IODF is activated in HCD?
I though the Dynamic commands in VM only needed to happen if you are using an
IOCDS and IOCP to maintain the HW.
When the Hardware Configuration(HAS) matches the loaded IOCDS and
VM HCD will not activate and do all the dynamic commands in VM environment. You
can use HCD to manage the IOCP but you will have to perform the dynamic
commands and activate the new IOCP
