Plea for help to all you 'Learned Legacy Users'
I just love the charting facility and want to share it with the wider
family.
Is there some way I can get a test 2 page descendants tree from my laptop
to my USB then to my husband's set up with printer?
My usual method is to use the 'right click

what I really meant - but not said :) - was: I wanted to export only the
bloodline (male) in a gedcom file. That means: All descendent from a man
called Stone , who have the name Stone with their wifes or husbands. I
didn't find the way. Or do you or anybody else know how that
If you're looking for only the name Stone couldn't you tag all those
with that surname and make a gedcom of those people?

Sorry forgot to mention why I create a CD-ROM over uploading to the
Internet - my immediate family members have let me know they don't
want to find themselves on the Internet. So I create CD-ROMs with a
big note on it - please don't publish this information on the
Internet.
Cheers

But the original poster wanted only the males.

I use Passage Express, it can save the whole Legacy file (including
private notes/events/addresses) and can be copied to a CD-ROM. I go
the extra distance of creating a reports as web pages and as pdf, I
add photos and gedcom files for those who use other family history
programs. Its a lot of

Sorry my English is not perfect enough. What I mean is, I want to export all

That is brilliant, Ron, thanks for those instructions. I've been following

Tagging those with a surname of Stone should work IF you have entered the
married name as an alias for the women. Otherwise you will lose all the
wives. It still won't get you the spouses of the married daughters, but the
alias would tell you they did marry. I can't think of another way to get
I was very disappointed to not be able to find a way to make any

Legacy often lets you select marriages in its software to generate
information.

Valerie,
What are you using as the key to have the LegacyUG mail moved to its own
folder?
If the filter setup allows you to select something like this
Subject contains [LegacyUG]
most of the mail should be filtered correctly.
If you have some other filter, such as
Subject equals [LegacyUG]
then
Thanks Jenny

I am still using Legacy 5 and have reason to believe that it has been
corrupted. I would like to make a complete new, clean, installation. I am
not very computer savvy and would appreciate instructions in particular
about removal of the old installation before installing a new download.
There are probably any number of ways. One would be to first create the file
and save it to your drive (say the desktop), then open a Windows Explorer
window to your USB drive and click and drag the file from the desktop to the
flash drive. Could also right-click the file and choose copy, then
I hope you realize that Legacy like most other genealogical software
programs provides of privatizing a users GEDCOM file in that all LIVING
individuals would have detailed information removed. Legacy even offers to
change all of their names to LIVING. Using those options, you can upload

I think the biggest difference is that the information available in
newspaper archives and at anywho.com (and similar) is in bits located here
and there - which requires more research ability than an online ancestry
chart that puts it all in one place.

I've looked at Legacy and the new Legacy charts. Joseph had a daughter named
Margaret with his first wife. His second wife had a son named John F. with her
first husband. Margaret and John F. got married. They don't have a common
ancestor. Is there a graphic way of showing this
Well that depends on what program you use for e-mail and what your rules
are. For example, I use Outlook (the full one, not the Express) and I
have a rule that says everything with [LegacyUG] in the subject should
go to that folder and that works for me.

Eric,
I think that idea would be the perfect use of Legacy Charting for me,

Hi
I love reading all the emails from this group, but I do get swamped with
them. I am unable to put Legacy emails into a separate folder. AOL will not
allow it. (I know...your going to tell me to change my email G)
Is there a digest for this group? And if not, could one be set up?
Could one not create this as a chart by doing some TAGGING before hand
- then export the tagged people to a temporary family file? (Like tag
all ancestors of Mary , tag all ancestors of Joe, tag all descendants
of Joe (or Mary) -- then create family file - only tagged people?)

You can do this currently with Tree Draw by adding other charts to
the one you are making.
eg start with descendants of a couple then add 2 charts - the
ancestors of each.
I understand we'll also be able to do that with Legacy Charting in
the future - except that we'll be able to start with
There isn't a program available that will make every sort of tree

Hi Poul,
Legacy never has had a Mac version.
So what files do you have?
If you Google for the extension or post it here, someone may be able
to tell you what program you were using.
If you don't still have access to it and you didn't save a Gedcom
that you could import into Legacy, I think
The easiest solution is probably to get a free gmail or hotmail account
and use that email address for the LegacyUG. You can check the messages
when you have time and the huge storage allowed at gmail should hold
several years of Legacy emails.

You can add the wives as you export as you export a tagged list + spouses.
