I recently uploaded my database to ancestry.com mainly so I could get
other folks involved in finding links in my Winfrey studies.
Instantly, ancestry starting showing me they had hints for
practically everybody in my database. I don't particularly like their
hints unless it is census data or
Rootsmagic 4 will run on a zip drive (not a memory stick). The
program installs itself and copies your database and media over. You
can run it on any Windows computer without actually installing
anything to that computer. I sure do wish Legacy could do that.

Don, I bought a 24 monitor and it is great to have Legacy and a full
screen view of Ancestry.com open at the same time. The way the prices
have come down, you can get a great monitor for $300.

My thanks to Kathy for introducing us to Dropbox. I have been using a
shared folder across my computers and that works great. But with
Dropbox, essentially it is not a shared folder but a live file so
everything works faster. I still back up to my Shared Folder so that

Drop Box comes with Mac OSx for Intel. All I had to do was to share
Drop Box and I have access to it from all my computers. I don't sync
anything. I have just one database and it is stored in the Drop Box
as are my media files. Mac automatically backs up the Drop Box
changes hourly and

To my narrow mind, the disaster is not an event. It is a fact, a
history, etc that is attached to an event. I've handled this by
adding a note to the couple's Residence event. It keeps the history
of the time that event occurred all together.

date to the file name so it is always going to create a new file. But, you
have an option to turn the date stamp off. If you choose that, you will

Looks like they are all related to your database. A much easier way would
be to create a backup of the database and then save the zipped file that

I have been running Legacy on my iMac for a couple of years. I looked at
every Mac genealogy program before deciding I had to find a way to get
Windows on the Mac. I installed WinXP under VMWare Fusion and it works
great. I hate having to set my iMac up to run Windows just to run one

Legacy. It will look good on startup but there will be some features
that don't give you the output you expect. For normal users, Fusion
or Parallels is the best option. I have used both but prefer Fusion

sources were exported to the gedcom. Most programs have the option to

significant problems with the old one. At the time they told us the
Digest version was not working with the new system but that after they

Nick is right. The gedcom file will not accurately copy all of your
data as you have it set up in Legacy. A simpler and much more
accurate solution is to create a Legacy backup and e-mail it to
yourself. Besides the backup in many cases is smaller than a gedcom
file.
