just a quick question about Terrence Parker's Tribute ep on Intangible... the first track - i think it's Love's Got Me High - is almost exactly the same as a track on DJ Assault's Straight Up..., except that the track on Assault's mix is missing the vocal snippets, is substantially faster (we're talking 45rpm compared to 33), and is listed as Taxicab on the backcover of the cd. a mate's got a 12 called 2 Brothers and a DAT on a label called Jackin' Trax which includes a track called Take a cab which seems to be the same as the track Assault plays - ie, no vocals and pitched-up booty tempo. does anyone know what the deal is here? which is the original? what's the sample? anyone got a spare of the 2 Brothers...? ta rob _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

The Them LP is probably the most experimental hip-hop release I've ever heard, far to much so for me but you may like it better. You also might want to check out the new Canibul Ox LP that should be coming out in the near future. I noticed that too: the track on that EP is similar, if not the same as Love's got me high. I suspected that the 2 brothers -record is canadian, had something to do with Intangible / Parker. When that track became a sort of mini-anthem few years ago, it seemed like there was almost dozen versions of it. Even Fresh fruit re-released it with different remixes (with Sterac's slammin techno mix!!!). which is the original? what's the sample? anyone got a spare of the 2 Brothers...? Geesh, I can't remember which one came first, the Intangible or the Jackin trax one... It was around -95/96. I'll guess the Intangible was first. His set was suprisingly similar to his mix cd which was no bad thing. I also forgot to mention some other hip hop stuff. i sat down and was looking throught my CD's and realised that i have more then i thought. Check out anything produced by Steve Pitts. He does all his work with The Dayton Family, Shoestring, Bootleg, and Jake tha Flake...If you like the harder hip hop and rap it is right up your alley. He likes to put alot of funk in the music. much better then just listening to wordds and beats. There is also DJ Skrew out of Houston. everything he does is slowed down and pitched down to make things real mellow. some of the newer stuff isn't his best, so i recommend his older stuff.he has a nice loose groove spinning around him. De La Soul's new one is pretty good. we talked about that here. But if you are just starting with hip hop then i suggest Run DMC and NWA for obvious reasons. they are still the best. JEFF!

Something I discovered a minute ago that I figured I'd pass along. Kevin Saunderson will aparently be spinning on Groovetech UK on Sat the 10th. There is no time listed but check the web site and make sure you look at the shcedule. DJ Bone was supposed to do a set on monday but it looks like there is some sort of transit strike that prevented it. Seems like groovetech UK is doing a good job archiving recent sets so check back if you miss it. Has the DJ Bone - Black Lives, which is pretty cool, but I particularly like Laurent Garnier's The Man with the Red Face and the Scan 7 song (I think it was Multi-ordinal Tracking Unit?) that is pretty original. just a quick question about Terrence Parker's Tribute ep on Intangible... the first track - i think it's Love's Got Me High - is almost exactly the same as a track on DJ Assault's Straight Up..., except that the track on Assault's mix is missing the vocal snippets, is substantially faster (we're talking 45rpm compared to 33), and is listed as Taxicab on the backcover of the cd. does anyone know what the deal is here? which is the original? what's the sample? anyone got a spare of the 2 Brothers...? I Have been listening to those 4 tracks non stop this week (along with François Kervorkian Essential mix 2X CD - Very cool BTW.) i am pretty sure that track 1 uses a wood, brass, and steel sample of funkanova (these guys were the sugarhill band if my memory serves me correctly) - The EP is great. can anyone - maybe TP himself share some more info about this EP. It may of already been covered a while back on 313 - i checked TP's site out this week and the EP was listed 10? or more releases back. has this been reissued or is it a new EP? - i only know what i have read about Ken Collier from some of the kind words written about him after he died, i have his 'out come the freaks' track that he did with don was, a deserving tribute no doubt. on another subject has anybody read 'i was a robot' by Wolfgang Flur? (other than fellow 313'er Tim Barr of course!) - interesting stories about his days with Kraftwerk (and certainly more detailed than any Kraftwerk bio i have ever read. IMHO) Dave
