Re: New Recloose + some nice tunes
recloose has got a couple of remixes out lately: the already mentioned rmx on Elypsia (dan curtain), a rmx of herberts 'leave me now' in stud!o K7, and a rmx on Ubiquity, can't think of the name of the track, but the flipside has two mixes by the Afronaughts (= Seiji). current favorites: * duplex - autosave - ground zero i love everything these guys have released so far, and just bought this one today, i don't think it will leave my decks anytime soon :) * blaze feat... - fantasy (herbert rmx) - playhouse herbert (Homer) * miles davis - a tribute to jack johnson - columbia i'm currently reading his biography by ian carr, so what better to listen to when reading. * emoticon sampler really nice * the optic nerve - rebirth ep - psych thrill wonderful record, deep, deep strings. like the one on delsin aswell, love it when mr. tucker uses (his own) vocal samples. * julie dexter - the plan - mainsqueeze didn't dig it the first 2 times i listened to it (too speed-garage-y), but after listening to it for a 3rd time it started to grow on me, like the way she sings. jurren _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

RE: [313] Quick question...
Well, I'm not a DJ and have no aspirations of becoming one but I have a turntable and only buy vinyl. I used to get by just buying CDs but as my tastes developed and my appetite for new, deep music increased I knew it couldn't be satisfied without a turntable. Buying vinyl does open up a whole new world, it just depends on whether you want/need to go there or not. I wouldn't get too worried about it, if you can't see the need to get a turntable then you probably don't have to, as long as you're enjoying your music. I don't DJ. For the longest time I bought vinyl (based on reviews on the 313 list) in the hopes that I would one day get a turntable. Nearly a decade later and I finally bought one. What a revelation! There are so many things I have missed. 80% is a conservative estimate. I'd say vinyl all the way. on 4/26/01 9:41 PM, Omar Hackett at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Peace. Re: [313] Quick question...
even if you don't 'dj' in the go out and do it places sense, there's every reason to not only have a tuntable at home, but to have 2 (or 3) tables, a mixer, etc at home. first of all, all the good techno is only on vinyl and that's just the way it is right now, plus learning to mix (even a little) gives the whole thing a different perspective. lots of tracks sound better when they are played with other tracks, and getting familiar with the music happens a lot more quickly when you are actually engaged in 'doing' something with it. ok, yes, listening to it is doing something with it.. let's avoid that thread. there's a lot of damn fun to be had by djing at home, for yourself, is my point. In the same vein: having missed the Balihu releases when they first came out, I picked up pretty much the entire back catalogue when they were repressed about a month ago (?) and haven't stopped listening to them since. Danny Wang is a genius. Truly, and thanks to your tipoff I will now go and complete my Balihu collection. Let's go, let's go to mars! Tim Jackiw - 'Science of Sound' (Offworld). One of those records that makes you wonder whether there is any justice in the music industry at all. Because of bad distributors and record shops, this record went virtually unnoticed when it was released in '97. A criminal shame, because it's a stunningly beautiful record, an absolute gem that deserves to be rated alongside 'Kao-Tic Harmony', 'Icon', 'At Les' and 'Galaxy 2 Galaxy'. I'm not going to stop pushing this record until it is. Ok, now you've got me all excited. Does this record have the tracks 'Archers' and 'Waves' on it? Because I heard this back in 97, went round to all the record stores in my city, and nobody had even heard of it! Please, fill us in! Duplex - 'Autosave' (Ground Zero) Yes, I know it's bad form to list releases on your own label in a top 10, especially when it's the same week that it's being released, but praise Alright alright I'll check it out! And now for my selection: Art is a division of Pain by Anthony Rother, as PSI Performer. On Kanzleramt, this is dark, disturbing, and very very good. I liked Simulationszeitalter, but this just takes it to a whole new level, with interesting production and much more varied sounds. -Dave __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! if anyone's interested, Amazon UK (www.amazon.co.uk) are listing Underground Resistance's Revolution for Change compilation and also the classic Detroit Retro Techno / Emotions Electric compilation on vinyl. the UR is apparently 'usually dispatched within 24 hours' which suggests that they've definitely got that one in stock. the Retro Techno is 'On Order; is usually dispatched within 1-2 weeks' which suggests they may, perhaps, be able to get copies. anyways, if you don't have either of these records then i can't recommend them to you highly enough! rob _ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Re: [313] Revolution for Change Retro Techno
You know what? I have heard a lot about Mad Mike and UR especially since I am a Jeff Mills fanatic and that is where he started out (round about?). Anyways I was perusing their stuff on groovetech last night when I came across The Punisher. Holy ShxT! is all I could say... I even went as far as checking out their website and they (UR) have a pretty cool image going on there. I think it is Mad Mike pictured in the gas mask. That reminds me of some old Alien Workshop logos from my skater days. Pretty sweet. Needless to say I will check out the Revolution for change 12 that you mentioned with utmost faith in Detroit technology's ability to tweak my eardrums!!! Peace! I'm not sure of that statement RD. I'm sure I know of people that have X-Mix 1 on vinyl... and I'm talking people that bought it brand new. Even tho I have never physically seen a copy, I can't justify my statement. But ALL the other X-mix series has 'DEFINITELY' been released. Also FYI, the 3-Lux vids(early animation vids pre X-mix) have been 'supposeivley' re-released on DVD! RE: [313] Re: New Recloose + some nice tunes
i was under the impression that afronaught was orin walters from the bugz crew, but then again the two work together on many projectsso i could be wrong... *shrug* np: everyday people i can't sleep earth project recloose has got a couple of remixes out lately: the already mentioned rmx on Elypsia (dan curtain), a rmx of herberts 'leave me now' in stud!o K7, and a rmx on Ubiquity, can't think of the name of the track, but the flipside has two mixes by the Afronaughts (= Seiji). current favorites: * duplex - autosave - ground zero i love everything these guys have released so far, and just bought this one today, i don't think it will leave my decks anytime soon :) * blaze feat... - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] Quick question...
Even if you don't DJ, having a turntable is worth the small investment. You don't need a 1200 just to play vinyl in your home, you can get a decent turntable for around $100-130 US. Cheaper than a decent CD player and your discography will be able to expand tenfold. Not only are there thousands of more techno/house/whatever-style-you-like records but think of all the stuff that is out of print and never made it to CD. Imagine if you grew up with only turntables and tapedecks (like myself) and then suddenly CD players come around. If you didn't get on you'd be left behind. I buy primarily vinyl still and my wife has been converted to vinyl as well. The format is so nice... you can actually _read_ the text on them and the artwork is killer. Beats a 5x5 card anyday and then there's the gatefold records as well. All my friends have turntables and less than 5% of the entire group DJ. MEK From: Omar Hackett To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: [313] Quick question... Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2001 20:41:17 -0500 Peace. Many who know me, are still baffled as to why I dont have a darn T-Table. Re: [313] Quick question...
Wouldn't it be nice if we lived in a world where we could chose what format to buy our music on. Then vinyl lovers wouldn't get shortened version of LPs and CD people can get the music they wanted... I guess that's only a dream... Actually, my favourite dream is a world without cds, but perhaps that's just me. ;-) Well, some stuff only comes out on CD... CD versions often have more tracks on them too... I think it's worth it to have whatever device is necessary to hear your favourite music... be it on vinyl or CD or cassette or MD...
Tim Jackiw
Tim Jackiw - 'Science of Sound' (Offworld). One of those records that makes you wonder whether there is any justice in the music industry at all. Because of bad distributors and record shops, this record went virtually unnoticed when it was released in '97. I know! THis record has not left my crate since I got it. Sounds like it could have been released on UR, Metroplex, Fragile or Transmat -- high praise indeed. That track No Destination is the lost link between Acid Eiffel, World 2 World, JS-01 and The Final Frontier. Just epic, long, and extremely moving track, soulful and 808 percussion everywhere. Labels owners if you are listening: pick up this record and re-release it! that's kinda ironic, cos Offworld was a UK-based distributor which ran a label of the same name... although to be fair i'm not sure if the Offworld you mention is the same one or not. as far as I know this is NOT the same Offworld! THe Offworld in question is from Australia, and this was the only release I ever saw on this label, I think it was a debut and then the label folded? For those not in the loop Zero 7 have been heralded in the cooler UK press for their chilled grooves - they have remixed Radiohead and Terry Callier in the past, and have been compared to the likes of Air and Kruder Dorfmeister, etc. Just need to add my praise for their remix of that Terry Callier track (theme from sparticus, I think?). Actually, my favourite dream is a world without cds, but perhaps that's just me. ;-) I actually live there, but the cost of living's pretty high, especially living in the anti bootleg district, but there is less risk of theft (which is what made me make the move in the first place) and, as has been said, plenty of top tunes ;) Speaking of which, hunt down Clifford Jordan's Glass Bead Games (Strata East), jazz fans. I learn it has been reissued on LP - typically just after I replace my worn out copy with another pricy original - and it is the best album on a fantastic label. Jonny. np: Doug Carn Adam's Apple

I haven't been following this thread too closely so forgive me if this has been mentioned already. If you can find the I.O. on Mo' Wax Excursions, then repressed on a Cheap 2x pack, either are easilly worth the price for the song Libre. It's brilliant slower moody house (around 112bpm), with a slightly acidic bassline, lush pads, etc. Every time I revisit this track I kick myself for not listening to it more often. The Pullsinger Porno album is also worth a close listen, for a good intro to the diversity of his sound. Great CD insert too - I imagine the vinyl insert must be great if it exists.
