I went and dug it out. Here's what it says. D-2000 Urban Tribe mixed by Carl Craig written by K Dixon jnr produced by K Dixon jnr and Sherard Ingram It came out in 1998 on Mo Wax I lucked out... picked it up for 4.99US funny thing is on the price sticker somebody wrote Basic Ch for a description of the sound. Cheers! G Maarten Baute wrote: ok, back to topic... is it correct that KDJ released a single 12 on mo-wax wich was mixed by carl craig? it should be one-sided? Any comments on this? MW 094 a1: d-2000 Sherard Ingram w/KDJ, 500 copies. 500 copies? hmm.. I have a chance for picking this up for 20 euro.. It's not that I don't believe you, but does anyone know how can a buyer actually VERIFY that when a label or store boasts a really low number of copies, that it's in fact true? Or do you just have to trust them? Mo'Wax was all about getting into every record store, everywhere (even the indie rocker ones) so I just am a little suspicious of that number from them in particular. RE: [313] kdj
Try to get any of the pre-Beggars Banquet-distribution-deal vinyl releases. Or better yet, try to get the pre-AM-Distribution-deal releases!! They are indeed very limited. And they're very collectable by nature: often exclusive tracks on vinyl, very nice packaging on both format but more eye-catching on vinyl of course, colored vinyl, 10s and 7 instead of 12s, gatefolds, etc. I'm sure some companies lie about that stuff, but Mo'Wax just isn't one of them. Compare it to, say, Planet Mu 7s. sqrrt At 06:00 PM 6/12/02 -0500, Matthew MacQueen wrote: MW 094 a1: d-2000 Sherard Ingram w/KDJ, 500 copies. 500 copies? hmm.. Just curious if there's an actual way to know for sure, Unfortunately, http://www.mowax.com/news_info/discography.htm is limited to the latest few releases, or maybe I'm a navigational idiot... I tried to check the archived mo'wax discog here: http://www.archive.org (nice site BTW) but it was too old to include MW94. Most of the other discogs I checked skipped over this release, which would seem to indicate it was limited. I gues it's always hard to say for sure. The price tag from Virgin in Paris says D2000*LTD* on it and I also remember it was touted as a 500-copy limited run when it came out. I think I may have seen it listed that way on the old Mo Wax site, but that was a while ago. Agree it seems strange for Mo' Wax, but it did come out before the album, so perhaps it was teaser, and not exactly their standard fare at that. If anyone's interested in hearing it, it's the 2nd track in this mix from '99: http://phonopsia.tripod.com/Newandold.htm Tristan --- http://www.mp313.com - Music http://www.metrotechno.net - DC techno + more http://www.metatrackstudios.com - DC DJ/Production studios http://phonopsia.tripod.com - Hub [EMAIL PROTECTED] - email - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] New Vinyl
It's such a rarity that I have the funds to buy any records, I figure I should do my bit to increase the flow of relevant info here. :) Forgive the personalization of these reviews, it's the only way I know how to do it... Oh, and if these aren't all brand new, forgive me, I'm just getting back in the loop. NewWorldAquarium - Sign of Brady (NWAQ 001): I first heard NoWorldButU on Nortroute, and repeatedly revisited it to hear this song, close to an hour into the stream (with no forwarding), just so I could hear it. This song hits me so deeply. It is the sound of the other NWAQ releases on Delsin, but slower and more heart-felt. This is pure, dark beauty at its finest. In the Nortroute original tracklistings, it was listed as NewWorldRomantic, if that goes anywhere towards identifying the different approach. If you can still find a copy, snag it while you can. Lots of places seem to be out of stock. I can't stop listening to this record... Oh, and all of 154's comments about hearing it on vinyl to get the true effect come through loud and clear. Cut @ D+M, and compressed to hell, this is destined to become a collectors item. The flip is also great - and the little 154 answering machine sample that would always pop up on Nortroute. :) Recloose - Ain't Changin' 12 (Planet E): For my $, it's the best song on the album, and definitely the most floor-friendly. If you're reluctant to shell out for the album (a mistake IMO) this is a good buy - otherwise, I'd say there isn't much reason to pick this up over the album, unless you want doubles. C's Dark Soul Mix is clearly very simple, but I love that bassline. It's pretty much a DJ tool, with some rearranging cymbals reminiscent of C2's Space Time Continuum remix. Unless you really want the DJ tool though, buy the album. Recloose - Cardiology 2x12 (Planet E): My expectations for this album couldn't have been higher. On first listen I was slightly disapointed. I think I expected a few more obviously dancefloor tracks or something, but on a 2nd listen I have no complaints at all. This is a complete, accomplished album in the proper sense. I'm feeling every song, and I can already sense that it will grow on me. With all the wait and hype for this one - it's a really impressive feat to be able to live up to the expectancy. I'm sold. Soha - Takemussa 12 (Africanism): I was a bit surprised by the slow growing pace of this one after hearing the best bit towards the end in the Real Audio sample. However, it's such a distilled sound they can get away with letting the tension build for a solid 6 or 7 minutes before letting loose. These two are probably my favorite house producers at the moment. This is another one that lives up to extremely high expectations. Julien Jabre - Sun is Back 12 (Versatile): I kept hearing this song out 'n about, not realising it was new. Maybe I've been hearing the song it samples, if it samples something? Not sure. Brilliant A-side, OK B-side. Dripping with Summertime funk. Trackheadz - Our Music 12 (DNH): I've been ranting about this one here for the last few weeks since I heard Mike Clark drop it @ the Planet E party. Once again, I was a bit deflated on first listen from my memory of hearing it loud at the Planet E party. This is very Deep Burnt, but it rides the momentum a little more persistently, with slightly more severe changes when they happen. This track can't fail on a dancefloor though. A must-have for fans of Deep Burnt. The B-side sounded mailed in to me. 4-Hero - Escape That 12 (Talkin' Loud): This one's from '99, but with copies on sale for $4.25 @ Groovetech, I feel compelled to pass along the good word. There are two parts to the single. I passed on the IG Culture remix, although it was nice in its own right. The version I got has Restless Soul and Ron Trent remixes. The Restless Soul (AKA Phil Asher) one is very beat-focused with an unexpected distorted 909 dominating the mix. Nice, but not crucial by any means... The Ron Trent remix on the flip is killer though, with endlessly shifting keys throughout and classic Trent chords and synthwork. The original is nice, but a bit too much on the R+B meets Drum 'n Bass tip for my taste. I like that stuff at a more reasonable tempo, thank you. :) Los Hermanos - Birth of 3000 12 (LH-1): Plenty been said about this one. Very nice indeed. I may prefer Son Dos to Birth of 3000 - still undecided. I have to admit with all these other records it hasn't been getting the attention it deserves though. I'll disclaim all this too - I'm not just a yes-man for all these records. I spent a *long* time shopping and was very conservative with my my purchases. This may be my first 100% successful record-buying outing ever... More stuff on the way next week. Summer is almost here, and Summer = House! [313] Question....
Hi, I have a question about a record Derrick May plays for a break in his set very often, there is a male voice, a bit dark saying Grace and other words (which I can't remember now), I've heard it several times in combination with a kind of brazil sounding tribal track, where the music is suddenly stopped and you hear a couple of short whistles and then the track continues with yet another layer of sound, but I think it is another record. Someone said it might be Carl Craig - the Climax, can anyone confirm this??? Thanks, Remco - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(what ever happened to that guy) , but it is not from bob holroyd.. the track you are talking about starts of very slow with a lot of drums and with a whistle.. and speeds up to like.. 300 bpm if you ask me... strange.. but very nice. This story is one of Sonic Fiction and uncategorized, beautiful dance music. --- For June 13th, 2002 (10pm-2am) Featured: Megatron Scott Edmonds Audio Angel (on the mic) Guest Quela Robinson (Santa Fe) --- Rotating Audio Angel Blaktroniks Mikey J Megatron Scott Edmonds and special guest --- When: Thursday 13th,2002 (10pm-2am) Where: 26Mix // 3024 Mission ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) Price: 5 dollars. A friend of mine told me some time ago that Keith, Skip, and Doug where part of the Sugar Hill Gang. So I started to look at all the Sugar Hill Records I had and it was true. I don't have my records handy right as of yet, but one record I can tell you about is Grand Master Flash The Ferous Five -The Message 12. If you have it, look at the credits. peace, Silicon Keith Le Blanc was part of the Sugar Hill Gang as a drummer along with Skip Mc Donald and Doug Wimbish. Really!? I never knew that - tell me more. [313] Never on Sunday
Memo from Alex Bond of PricewaterhouseCoopers Start of message text Picked up a Never On Sunday record at lunch today that I'd never seen before. It's on 430 west and says on the sheet that there's only 300 copies, and it's on blue vinyl. There was a massive queue for the listening post, so I just bought it - £15 Is it any good? Have I been ripped-off? I thought I had all their records... RE: [313] X-Mix DVD
from the k7 page The X-Mix series cruised to a triumphant conclusion with a final sequence of dazzling dance mixes illustrated in time by prodigious visual designs. With Electro Boogie, which went on to inspire a short CD mix series of its own, X-Mix moved away from house and techno and into the primal digitality of electro. Dave Clarke?s peerless mix contains classics from the Imperial Brothers, Hashim, Model 500 and LFO. Electro was back. Kevin Saunderson?s mix for a Transmission From Deep Space Radio represents Detroit at its mid-90s funkiest. The techno pioneer?s imaginary station transmits from extra-orbital realms, as digital artists whisk us between stand-alone deep spaces and virtual worlds. The mix includes classics from E-Dancer, R-Tyme, Plastikman and Sean Deason. X-Mix hit its final high with Jack The Box. It wasn?t just Hardfloor?s stunning acid house set, crafted with love and featuring legendary 80s Chicago tunes from Adonis, Phuture, DJ Pierre and Armando alongside new tracks from the Düsseldorf duo themselves ? definitely one of the mixological highs of the series. It was also a whole new visual style from a team of Viennese artists ? a thrillingly high-velocity urban abstraction fashioned out of old 16mm film, video samples and animated still frames. sounds good - sounds even better because of the fact it deosnt seem to feature cheesy cgi graphics which are usually de-rigeur for electronic music. i never even heard about the first 2 in the series - anyone seen? :-Original Message- :From: Langsman, Marc [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] :Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 2:01 PM :To: 313@hyperreal.org :Subject: [313] X-Mix DVD : : : :K7113PDVD : X-Mix III DVD Collection - Various Artists : :36 essential techno, acid house and electro tunes. 3 genre-defining mixes. :Hours of ground-breaking digital imagery. : :*Wow* - does anyone have this ? [313] early 80's prep parties question
Hi peepz Just in the process of doing the final stages of a stupid essay on the fantasy culture of Detroit's party clubs put on by the prep clubs in the early 80's. Was just wondering if anybody had any solid theories into why they were so elitist and why stricly no females were allowed to join the clubs? I am also not to sure if women were allowed to the dances or not? please excuse if this seems like a stupid question it 3:30 am and i'm a bit sketchy to say the least;^) Sam __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [313] early 80's prep parties question
From what I know the women had their own clubs ... for instance Gables had the spin-off Scarlet(t). And of course they were invited to the parties! :) -d On Thu, 13 Jun 2002, Sam Karmel wrote: Hi peepz Just in the process of doing the final stages of a stupid essay on the fantasy culture of Detroit's party clubs put on by the prep clubs in the early 80's. As to the elitism ... they were elitist in the way any other high school clique was. Just another way to carve your identity, with the limited resources available at that age. my .02 -d - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[313] Track ID (Shake, maybe?) for a friend
I have a track ID request for a friend who's not on (313) any more: Shake and Mike Clark both played this record at the Planet E party during DEMF this year. It's got a simple kick, and really creepy weird pads. It's also got vocal parts, one of which somebody says something like there's a lot of magic in those vaults you probably haven't even showed anyone, and there's a part where he says from chicago to detroit and then to detroit loops for a long time. Anybody? Sounds like it could be Shake to me, using some of his interview samples, but it's not on What, me worry. I guess it could be on Songs for my mother, which I have but haven't listened to in a while...what other records are between Songs for... and What, me worry, anyway? As a not-unrelated side now: What, me worry is bad-ass. The hip-hop track on it just rips my head off and hands it back. Wow. I am also not to sure if women were allowed to the dances or not? Dan Sicko noted that they were elitist for the same reasons that high schoolers are elitist in general. This is correct...BUT at the same time I'd argue that there is an interesting tie between the presumed elitism of detroit social clubs and the schism between black working class and wanna be upper class kids. Re: [313] Never on Sunday
it's a very nice record 300 blue yep lots of black as well ||| also who asked for never on sunday as far as i know there are eight tracks published first the only full NoS ep never on sunday - day by day on 430 West records Detroit (300 copies blue vinyl) 4W-165 tracklist: jackie's theme/urban rains/carnal pleasure in the breeze/seduced by madness/jackie's reprise then you got the retroactive track, 'journey' - which is as well on the 'deepest shade' compilation and as last the 430west compilation on buzz has the track 'memories of you' on it 'urban rains' appears as well on 430west techno city 12 and there's a 12 on 430west called 'world series', which has two tracks, being 'in the breeze' and 'jackie's theme' on it again.. OK, I have one of those silly trainspotter questions (I'm bored)... I was just reading the label on a TronikHouse record that came out in '91, Uptempo, and I noticed the address given for KMS Records was a NYC one. Anyone know what the deal with that was?
