Re: Echospace BCN Dub -- horn samples?

2019-01-22 Thread Andrew Green
I do enjoy a good BC vs DC discussion and as avid collector of both i feel
obliged to chime in - but yeah its funny how the latter do get some stick for
'following' the BC template.

the way i see it is that DC certainly picked up the tub techno baton but have
been doing their own way long enough now to have created their own identity and
sound. Certainly in recent years Rod Modell has developed this style of a
murky throb out his layers of samples and percussion. On concentrated
listening its very cerebral and psychadelic, more so that the more open sound
of BC. I ilke the way he conjures up different moods with his palettes too…..
from the icy coldness of ‘Coldest Seasons’ to the hot claustrophobia on Hash
Bar Loops. Auratones from last year sits somewhere in the middle; more
relaxed, shimmering and light. I also feel there is ‘soul’ to be found
amongst the catalogue a few examples that i feel…….

I hyave to disagree about the staging of this kind of music. I went to a
minifestival night a few years back to hear Monolake, Ryoji Ikeda and Alva
Noto on the same night (Ultraminimalism). When sat half way up the slope
and centrally the sound was incredible and coupled with the magnificent
setting is all felt rather special.

I think ill try to get some tickets through unofficial channels once all

Tate clearly doesn't have state-of-the-art admin which can match the
technocratic 'Gestalt' [pardon me for being poncy] of Kraftwerk.
Even so, there's little doubt that Kraftwerk would only appear at a venue

Not so sure about that Ken, the event at Manchester Velodrome was pretty

I am not sure which of these are available digitally but you should check out
(if you haven't already) the first Underground Anthems record on Sistrum. I
haven't heard everything on that label but it is my favorite so far. The new
one on Emphasis sounds excellent but I don't think it is out yet. Still
familiarizing myself with the older Aesthetic Audio releases although I picked
up Moments in Rhythm #2 in Detroit over the holidays and like it a lot.

Underground Quality has a lot of releases. I think CT Beat Down by Jus-Ed and
the Smallpeople release are very, very good. Altered Moods, Downbeat, Drumpoet
Community, Jersey Underground, and some of the Sushitech releases are in
similar vein.

patrice scott's sistrum label is one that i've not paid too much
attention to, to my own cost. i am trying to remedy that now. it's my
flavour of the month at the moment, along with emphasis records (thank
you, bandcamp). any other labels like this that i should be keeping an
eye on - what about aesthetic audio? and underground quality (always
mixing up dj qu and jus-ed)? can anyone point me towards essential
releases from these labels, that are available digitally?

heard a tazz track ('lost' from the world of techno ep) used on a mix
 - that's exactly the kind of stuff i'm looking for, if anyone is aware
 of it.

Thanks for the link Jacob, good read. I liked the bit about sharing 1200's :)

Ive heard him play a couple of times and the second time was especially good
for Bleep 43 in London.A very deep set infused with subtle acid lines
throughout and one of my favourite sets in recent times.

Hi Mike, I'm trying to figure out what you are saying here?

People don't buy mix CD's really any more, as far as I know, so surely
that is correct.

But, why would be people be unlikely to consume it in any manner? I
would personally be curious to hear it, as I think D May will always
be a great DJ.

Dub and Deep House/Techno i guess. Older and newer stuff, some of which I
treated myself to for my birthday last week. Hopefully I'll come back to this
later in life and remember the stuff I really liked when I was forty

Hi Roland.

Berwick Street, London W1, is still more or less the Capital's record-shop
mecca, despite the decline in vinyl sales this decade.

Try Music Video Exchange at 95 Berwick Street, London: Telephone 020 7434

Hi 313-ers
I've been reading the 313 list for very long time and now is the time to send
my first email/request.
Next week I'm travelling to London (from Holland). Part of my trip will be some
record-hunting ;)
It's been long since I've visited London and I'm afraid I've lost track of all
the good (second hand) record stores in London (I know there were quit a few in
and around Soho area)
Do any of you have tips for where to find those nice record stores?

Any other tips regarding music, good exhibits etc.. are also welcome

Thanks!
