All right, we've all had our fun. Enough. When people start (as
our friend /0 did) bringing people's family into it, and (as tom
apparently did) quoting off-list e-mails on list, we've officially
screwed the pooch, jumped the shark, broke the tone arm, etc.

I'll talk about some music I like:

Loving that Juju and Jordash mix on infinitestatemachine.com. The
download only album linked on there also has some very nice moments
(some of it is a little abstract or jzz for me).

Couple of Robert Owens related things I've recently picked up: one is
an old thing, Gene Hunt Inspire remixes (Moods and Grooves). The
Abicah Soul remix hits the spot for me. There's also AtJazz's Love
Someone. There's some recent remixes but the original is still the
one for me.

I always thought (and believed) that house/techno was about respect for
everyone/everybody despite who he/she is and the things he/she likes
(even UR preaches that) but @ this moment I do get the feeling that this
list is turning a bit into 'we only like what we like here and every
other thing, stepping outside what the list likes deserves a bashing' .

Mathew Dear is an artist and should be respected in that way, just like
he respects his fellow-artists and producers and just like artisits/dj's
we like on this list respect their fellow-artists. Off course u don't
have to like all the style of music they make but just respect the fact
that they try to be creative and provide music for peeps to listen and
dance to...u don't 'have to go out and see Mathew Dear (or others) if u
don't want to! But the fact that there's thousands of people out there
who really like his stuff must make him doing something right and again
u don't have to like him or his scene or his music but I thought this
was a global-313-list where everything could be discussed in an open
way, even hipster-things:-)

The lack of respect towards dj's/musicians/producers who operate outside
the likings of this list have turned into some sort of bitterness on the
list which do not go with my visions or believes about
dance/house/techno or whatever u wanna call it...

It thought it was about being open-minded and of course u can have
debate about music and what u like/don't like but it's turning into a
bit of narrow-minded thing around here. I n-joyed around here having
conversations around here with peeps from around the globe about a lot
of differenet styles of music and things happening in the world but it
seems not possible anymore.

Call me old-fashioned but somethings changed around here...

I'm still confused about those who insist on pinning the phrase
'hipster' on someone else while the former are obviously insisting they
represent true 'hip.' The fact that someone got ripped off is lost in
the posing. I guess it's okay to vandalize as long as the victim isn't cool.

Re: (313) Booooooo!!!!!

Good one Jeff. I am always saddened when people leave the list because
of some perceived change in tone. On the other hand, despite my long
standing affection for it and the people who subscribe, it is just a
list. Unsubbing in protest means you no longer have a voice in
whatever debate is raging.

As for the original purpose of this thread. Stealing someone's hard
drive is a loser move, even if it's backed up, even if it only costs
$100 to get another one.

And Mat Johnson is a good guy, and a decent producer, and doesn't
deserve to be slagged on this list. When I was a kid my mom always
said the same thing whenever someone said I HATE X -- usually
something like liver or broccoli. She said please say 'I don't care
for X' instead. Maybe that's a little pollyannish, but why be so
negative, when it doesn't serve any useful purpose?

And another thing -- Bryan Kasenic has been putting on events for a
long time, long enough to have been in and out and in and out again
with the fickie hipsters of Brooklyn. The Bunker events are
inexpensive, and feature a mix of interesting locals and
internationally known artists. Full disclosure: I have played a
couple times back when his shows were at Halcyon.

And lastly, I blame Plaslaiko for distracting Mat -- how can you
protect your hard drive with that nutter dancing around and gurning
next to you. The man is a menace!

Gah, as pro-encryption as I am, I would never try to run a live set
with encrypted audio data. Throughput is tough enough on a laptop

Encrypting your harddrive or folders in which audiofiles are located
is a really bad idea. Encrypting/decrypting costs a lot processing
power and you end up with horrible audio performance.

When I had a hard drive lost / stolen / missing from a gig here in

and the 20,000 MD fans didn't come to the rescue, or bring justice to

Losing things sucks, I agree, but it's also part of the job - can't
really say that security for DJs is a priority at most venues I've

this seems apocryphal. removing an entire technics 1200 tonearm is no
small feat.

Yeah, he didn't remove it. He was standing next to the deck for some time
(if I were to name the result of the swaying/staring combo I'd say ketamine
+ something strongly halucinatory) and then he slowly/deliberately reached
forward, grabbed the tonearm and attempted to pull it off. It wound up
bent/ruined. Most people who watched it happen couldn't believe their eyes.
It was a bit like that slow motion effect when you injure yourself. And then
a bunch of people grabbed him and took him outside.

It doesn't matter who it is, stealing someone's hard drive in the middle
of a performance is pretty skanky.

I hope he has it backed up.

Its like some coming and stealing the needle in the middle of your set...

People - they ain't no good (Nick Cave).

What's nearly as pathetic are the idiots who turn it into a vinyl vs.
digital culture war or simply think it's a hoot.
One wonders how they might feel if someone helped himself to their

most of his vinyl stereotypically masterful and boring, but he has
