and how perfectly it suits in the movie , when shahrukh khan and manisha are
talking to each other walking through sharing some good moments .its from movie

simply superb .magical stuff thats what i call midas touch . voilins touched by
A R RAHMAN turns gold. Classical BGM . just listen to it guys I have attached

[arr] THE RAHMAN TODAY

2010-08-15 Thread krishna prasad
Hi friends,

The Rahman today is more dependent on his brand name than on the strength of
his music
or his tunes may be with the exception of a  VTV or a RAVAN cos when i was
listening to
Endiran ( it was really a good album) but the fact was the music arrangement
was not anything we could associate with Rahman. I was listening to Endiran as
it was composed
by Rahman only and if it had been by any other composer the critics would hav
shred
it to pieces.

I understand that Rahman is busy with his international assignments and he his
taking up
tamil projects as they are forced on him.

Dear sir don't take up any tamil projects and if you do,  we need nothing short
of a RAHMAN  ALBUM meeting all the criteria associated with you.I feel this is
something you could do to your dear old TAMIL FANS.

The main point i would like to make is that Rahman's music should be enjoyed by
EVERYONE and not just people would understand the finer aspects of Rahman's
music
which is what is  happening right now as more and more people get alienated
from our Oscar winner. Remember even Buddha's teaching could not have got the
due acceptance
if it had been so complex.

I feel someone could take up this matter with boss, not as a compliant but as a
general
media feedback.

regards
Krishna

Subject: [arr] OMANA Penne is WOW AND VTV REVIEW

HI RAHMANIACS,
So at last we come to hear SO badly awaited music of VTV.A R RAHMAN has given
very extra ordinary music.the contemporary mindset of A R RAHMAN is continously
exploring new sounds and giving them new dimensions.full marks for sound
quality of the songs which i really appreciate , everything about vtv music is
extraordinary except the tunes itself. SO ordinary tunes again . the
presentations of the songs is mind blowing but the tunes are not to much say
about very simple and sweetness is missing. my pick of the album is OMANA
PENNE.

the sound of the song is magnificent, the music is brilliant , the tune
although ordinary but what i like is the mix of carnatic essence MY GOODNESS
its so soothing to the ears. the kalyani menon part and nathaswaram IS WOW WOW
WOW. both have been digitally modulated which makes it very strange,
extraordinary but so so sweet which is what i like about A R RAHMAN music.and
can anyone tell what doeS OMANA PENNE means.

but i must say A R RAHMAN has taken his time to prepare the album . VTV music
has its own dimension Its own sound very new stuff. WHICH atleast i do
admire.VTV surely will have its distinct status in A R RAHMAN tamil works. and
guys i think VTV music needs time to absorb its quiet ahead of its time.

2009-09-21 Thread krishna prasad
Dear guys,

Last week i was browsing in an internet cafe and as curiously enough they were
not playing the usual YSR/HJ songs and were playing Boys, e20 u18 songs.

What superb songs and especially the song ASATHURA. long live boss

The owner of the cafe and one of his friends were remarking casually that ARR
doesn't compose songs like this anymore.

How sad Boss has lost his place among the local junta who were his PILLARS OF
STRENGTH during his beginning.

I WAS LEFT WONDERING IF BOSS COULD SPARE TIME FOR A COLOSSAL WASTE LIKE YUVRAJ
or a BIG BUDGET BONANZA LIKE BLUE where i still feel BOSS WAS NOT REQUIRED*,
WHY COULD HE NOT SPARE SOME TIME FOR SOME YOUTHFUL FILMS where HIS MUSIC SPEAKS
MORE THAN THE BUDGET OF THE FILM.

GUYS THE GROUND REALITY IS THE NOWADAYS EXCEPT THIS GROUP INCLUDING ME DON'T GO
OUT AND BUY AN ARR ALBUM ON THE STRENGTH OF HIS MUSIC .

I AM NOT OFFENDING BOSS OR ANYBODY HERE. I SEE THE REALITY AND MY HEART PAINS.

I WOULD LIKE BOSS TO SPARE SOME TIME FOR YOUTHFUL FILMS LIKE BOYS/E20U18/ATM by
giving back something to the LOCAL JUNTA like me who feel starved for some
RAHMANIQ music

Guys given a choice i would listen ATM to GHAJINI or E20 to JTJY. i am not
referring to any language here i just go by the strength/quality of RAHMANS
music.
i find the essence of Rahman more in these albums than in their big budget
counterparts.

Guys dont bring in the Hollywood factor again . I totally agree with Boss going
global. But i would like Boss to restrict his appearances in useless Bollywood
projects as i dont remember any Hindi film going by the Strength of Boss's
music in the recent past except D6 or Ay Hyrathe in Guru.

Thanks guys.
Krishna

[arr] ---CORRECTION ---MY (NARROW-MINDED) VIEW---

2009-09-13 Thread krishna prasad
hi guys,

As i had mentioned before it was just my view. And my dear friends you fellas
forgot one important point that Boss never does anything with what you said
BUDGET in mind
as he has mentioned time and again in his many interviews.

Friends boss does not belong to this forum alone !!!

He is like God may be like Buddha and what does the followers of Buddha do
propagate his virtues to the world ie to those who do not know it and NOT just
among a band of his ardent followers. Yes you may argue he has millions of
followers and i do not want them to know him just by his name.

I want every one to know the ESSENCE OF Rahman.

Guys i am ready to listen to whatever boss composes. Is everyone else ready.

I do not want to WIN/LOSE any arguments here and i am very sorry that one of my
friends applauding another for GIVING ME A FITTING REPLY. ha ha this is not a
bout going on my dears.

CONSIDER REALITY.

Go out of your circles and find out how may still listen to RAHMAN songs even
today.
Yes i like Roja, May madham ..blah blah

stop it .  guys Rahman is still alive and rearing to go. why should his old
works be mentioned now when he is  creating master pieces EVEN NOW.

he is not IR or any other composer whose era has finished.

His MARUDHANI song is a perfect example where i got a glimpse of his past. Has
any one given such a zing/diff sync/orchestration for a romantic song. jai ho.

Guys finally i conclude with a request by saying again that the name RAHMAN has
superceded the RAHMANIQ essence of composing music. And i feel that HJ/ YUVAN
/SEL are capitalising on it.  I want each rahmanic to spread the essence of his
music to everyone and not just discuss among ourselves.

some time back i was listening to SEL 's jhoom barabar jhoom. Songs were
somewhat catchy, INNOVATION in orchestration ZERO. That where rahman score

PERCEPTION MATTERS. Discussion is just discussion and the "NARROW MINDEDness"
belongs to the individual's perception.

Thanks guys,
Krishna

[arr] ---MY VIEW---

2009-08-30 Thread krishna prasad
hi guys,

Rahman should stop doing any more Hindi movies and revert back doing more
MEANINGFUL tamil movies and he can obviously satisfy his musical hunger by
doing Hollywood projects.

What bollywood produces is . Take this left, right and centre. If you say
DILLI 6 is the zenith of Hindi movies guys kindly excuse me, we have FAR FAR
FAR Better projects for our boss in Tamil. Here i am refering to the movie and
not the music.

Boss shuld stop doing like Yuvraj, Blue etc. I mean it. Blue is copy of
some english film and i dont like my boss being part of such a group.

Rahman sir please come back to Tamil and continue from where you left.

Guys nowadays to fill Rahman's absence i am forced to listen to HJ's music cos
he is closest to Rahman and not SEL/Vishal Shekar as many of you think.

And HJ simply composes the same stuff again and makes merry .

WHAT PROVIDENCE:!!

ARR has been forgotten in TAMIL. Take it from me. Ask the general public. Go
out and see for yourself guys. Dont live the framed space of a computer and
wirite your views.

Sir come back to your roots. compose another May Madham for us please

This is my kind request.

regards,
Krishna

[arr] ARR's new Telugu movie launched!!!!!!

2009-08-15 Thread .::KriShnA::.
*
*

*It’s a musical love story – Gowtam Menon*

Muhurat of Naga Chaitanya’s second
movie<http://www.idlebrain.com/news/functions/muhurat-nagachaitanya-indira.html#>in
the direction of Gowtam Menon was performed at Annapurna studios today
morning. Manjula and Sanjay produce this movie on Indira Productions banner.
*AR Rahman composes
music<http://www.idlebrain.com/news/functions/muhurat-nagachaitanya-indira.html#>and
Manoj handles camera.
* Anthony edits the film and Rajeevan is the art
director<http://www.idlebrain.com/news/functions/muhurat-nagachaitanya-indira.html#>
.

Three iconic families of Telugu
cinema<http://www.idlebrain.com/news/functions/muhurat-nagachaitanya-indira.html#>(Akkineni,
Ghattamaneni and Daggubati) joined their hands to make this
movie.

Krishna sounded the clapboard, ANR switched on the camera and D Rama Naidu
directed the first shot.

*I am connected to ANR - Krishna*
Krishna said, “I am feeling very happy today. I became an actor with the
blessings of ANR. ANR was the first film star I saw in person while I was
student. I produced a couple of
films<http://www.idlebrain.com/news/functions/muhurat-nagachaitanya-indira.html#>on
Padmalaya banner with ANR like Hemahemilu and Rajakeeya Chadarangam.
Though I didn’t produce a film with Nagarjuna, I acted with him in Varasudu
movie. I feel happy to produce a movie with Naga Chaitanya as hero. I wish a
great success for his first movie Josh and his second movie in my daughter’s
production.”

*High standard movie with great production values - Manjula*
Manjula said, “I would like to thank Nagarjuna first. I did films only with
Mahesh Babu so far. I would like to honor the faith bestowed on me by
Nagarjuna by producing a high standard movie with great production values.
This story is very apt for Chaitanya. Naga Chaitanya is an young sweet boy
and I am sure of this movie’s success.”

*Trendsetter like Geetanjali - Nagarjuna*
Nagarjuna said, “Naga Chaitanya’s second movie is launched even before the
release of his first movie. I wanted to produce his second movie. In the
process Manjula met me and narrated the story. I loved the story. Naga
Chaitanya wanted to do a movie with Gowtam Menon even before he became an
actor. This film will be a trendsetting and different film like Mani
Ratnam’s Geetanjali. This film will be a special film in the career of Naga
Chaitanya. I am very glad that AR Rahman is composing music. There are many
positive points for this film. The script will be liked by the young
generation. It will be a class movie. Manjula is a passionate filmmaker.”

*Dream come true – Naga Chaitanya*
Naga Chaitanya said, “It is my dream come true to act in Gowtam Menon’s
direction. I felt that there is novelty in the line when I heard the story.
It is a love story.”

*It’s a musical love story – Gowtam Menon*
Gowtam Menon said, “It is a feel good movie. I am doing movie with the heir
of two big movie families. There is lot of responsibility on me. We are
planning to cast a new heroine. I always give importance to the story
irrespective of who the hero is. This film is also a story-based movie. It
is a musical love story.”

*NY shoot & December release – Sanjay Swaroop*
Sanjay said, “I would like to thank Nagarjuna for giving us the dates of
Naga Chaitanya’s second movie. This film will be shot in various places like
Hyderabad, New York and Kerala. We are planning to release the movie in
December 2009.”

2009-08-15 Thread .::KriShnA::.
*Geeta Arts buys Puli for Nizam*
Allu Arvind doesn’t buy movies of other producers for Nizam area. But Pawan
Kalyan’s latest movie Puli is an exception. Allu Arvind (Geeta Arts
distributors) bought the distribution rights of Pawan Kalyan’s Komaram Puli
for Nizam area by paying astronomical amounts. This movie will be released
in December 2009. AR Rahman composes
musicand SJ
Surya directs it.

*Two big openings on 15 August*
15 August is going to be a busy day for Telugu film industry and film media.
Two big films will be launched on Independence Day. The first movie is
Brindavanam starring NTR. This film is produced by Dil Raju and directed by

Chaitanya in the direction of Gowtam Menon. Manjula (Mahesh Babu sister)
produces it.

*Mahesh-Gowtam film in December*

I don't want any change, the thing is ARR has changed and i want him to revert
to his
original way of composing. Consider ATM which is one of his best.By best i mean

Hi Vishwesh,
                    The following are my observations,
Jai Ho at 1:56th second, suddenly the high energy of the song drops to the
lyrics of chorus.
Rehna Tu ( Delhi 6 ) from 1:31st second the lovely emotion which makes us
transform into a different world, is suddenly dropped at the specified time
line.
The same is the case with following and many more.Sakhi ( alay payuthe in
tamil ) - Snehithunda at the time line of 2:12 second( Sadhana Sargan,Srinivas
)
Merupukalalu (  minsare kanav in tamil , Prabhudeva and Kajol ) - Ooh lala...
5:10 second ( unni menon,chitra )

Thnx,
Praveen.

I accept that our Boss ARR delivers an exceptional quality of music.
What I meant to say is he is best the ENGINEER for acoustics, I meant the
literal meaning of ENGINEER.
Any one should accept that ARR concentrates more on acoustics, even he himself
accepted.
That's the part where I like him the most and best in the current industry.
To just tell an example, for the film Roja, the famous song which starts with
flute ( in telugu - " naa cheli rojave,naa lo vunnave " ), ARR asked H Sridhar
to capture the sound of floating air over the Flute rather than core sound of
Flute.
That's how ARR advises his team and concentrates more on acoustics.
I accept his productivity is exceptional, but the only thing is he drops the
emotion of a song's tune in the middle.

R U Listening Mr. ARR .. ?

2009-06-30 Thread .::KriShnA::.
Hi

Can we list out the tunes that have been used in Jingles. If my memory goes
right, the first ever song to be featured in a jingle of ARR is Chinna
Chinna Aasai for Nutrine Aasai chocolates. Expecting the reply.

Srikanth is a composer himself, lots of folks know about him through tfmpage
forums..
Not trying to start another ir-arr fight,i dont have the exact link.10 years
back Srikanth and a Srinath a bass guitarist and tfmpage hubber squared off on
veerapandi kottayilae vs rakkamma in an epic battle.Srikanth successfully
argued in favour of veerapaandi kottaiyiale. He's got tremendous knowledge in
the technialities of composing, would love to see him analyse arr's songs.

Part - 6!

One more opportunity knocked my door, drive my cousin to Panchathan Inn
recording studio. It was a late night recording at 11..00pm, the studio had
undergone changes, and close to the studio entrance there was a new waiting
room. I was asked to sit in that room. Whenever someone opened the door I was
able to listen to the track in a very low volume. I heard orchestral hits,
tight drum grooves and vocals with lot of reverb.

After 15 minutes or so, suddenly Mr. Viramuthu walked out from the studio. I
stood up, he asked me to sit. He then took the seat next to me, my lucky star
shines again and I am now sitting next to the Iconic lyric writer from Tamil
Nadu. He then asked me in English “Are you Anu’S brother?” I nodded my head and
then he asked are you from Delhi, for which I replied in a low voice, “தமிழ்ல
பேசலாம் சார்” [I can talk in Tamil Sir], then I had some guts to talk and
congratulated him for all the songs he penned right from late 70’s till now.
With a grin he nodded his head and then went back inside. One more time an
opportunity to hear the tight drum grooves and vocals with lot of reverb.

After about 30 minutes, door opens and no audio bleed this time and I see few
walking out, I spot A.R. Rahman in the middle, and to my surprise he said "HI"
"How Are You?" I said I am fine. He then started talking to Viramuthu and I
still remember, ARR was saying to Viramuthu that he should be calling
“Hariharnan” as he has been missing his calls. I was watching this all with
amazement. You might wonder what is so amazing about it, true but for a 23 year
old watching 2 giants of Tamil Cinema speak is nothing but amazement.

Then someone walks near ARR and whispers something, ARR goes inside. That
“somebody” was Noel James working at the Studio and ARR’s long time buddy. Noel
requested me to join him in the reception, he told me director would be here
anytime and he might not like anyone being around. In the reception as though
we were long time friends, Noel and I had a long discussion about music,
keyboard etc. We spoke about Pink Floyd to Phil Collins to Whitney Houston and
a lot about new keyboards. I still remember that evening conversation. We even
started refereeing ARR as “our man” and I did get to know few little things
about ARR’s work flow. At around 1.00am I had the presence of mind to get
Noel’s phone number.

Tamil film music has tracks that are remembered just for its uniqueness.
"முத்து குளிக்க வரீர்களா", "நின்னுக்கோரி வர்ணம்" are few examples. The song
that was recorded that night was in the same league -> “Konjam Nilavu” Movie:
"Thiruda Thiruda" directed by Mani Rathnam.

The song was all about A.R. Rahman’s rich music, Anupama’s dominant vocals and
P.C. Sriram’s camera work. Later when the movie came out the rumor was that PC
would use state of the art devices like akelaa cranes for the filming the song.
Honestly I am yet to see a singer who could reproduce this song with
perfection. The song format was western - verses and chorus. The chorus lines
[male vocals] were done by Noel James. I was able to spot familiar sounds from
Korg M1/O1W keyboards. Apart from the songs, the uncelebrated feature of the
“Thiruda Thiruda” was Rahman’s Background music. The background score by Rahman
was well above his all previous movies. For example the French horn theme
sounds in Sivaji; Rahman had composed similar stuff way back for Thiruda
Thiruda. This movie generated a lot of expectations in me and I was waiting
eagerly for its Audio launch.

To conclude this part, following is a piece of advice, when you get to meet top
people in any business or industry please! Do not miss the opportunity to talk;
Make sure you use it to your potential. I still hate myself for being shy; I
hate myself for fear of communication. . My fears became factors that created a
natural block for me to move forward. I was musically qualified and my
sequencing and programming abilities were beyond most during that time, but my
silent mode did not permit me to promote my skill set which in turn failed to
create peers around me. Though I am happy where I am now, I still

AR Rahman ties up with Japanese composer Joe Hisaishi for a film on the origin
of Kalaripayattu

By Kunal M Shah
Posted On Monday, April 13, 2009 at 02:57:06 AM

Rahman at the Kamakura temple in Tokyo

AR Rahman has added another feather to his cap. The composer has now tied up
with Japanese
music composer Joe Hisaishi for the music of their forthcoming Indo-Japanese
venture.

Our source said, “Rahman, Bharat Bala (director) and some people from Disney
(who are
producing the film) met Joe Hisaishi in Tokyo on April 6 to discuss the film.
Apart from Kamal
Haasan and Asin, the film also stars the Japanese actor Tadanobo Asano (Mongol,
Wind Up Type,
Last Life In The Universe) in a film which will trace the origin of the martial
art in India.”

According to our source the film deals with Kalaripayattu, the martial art form
of Kerala.

The source added, “Kamal was very keen to work with a Japanese actor after he
met Jackie Chan
during the music release of Dasavtaram.

This is a $ 50 million project by Bharat Bala who will also be directing the
film. Research
work on the martial art form is currently on. The film will show that martial
arts originated
from India and not from Japan, as the myth around the world is.”

Bharat Bala and Rahman are in Tokyo and remained unavailable for comment.

About Joe Hisaishi

Bharat Bala, Joe Hisaishi and AR Rahman in Tokyo

Mamoru Fujisawa, professionally known as Joe Hisaishi, is a composer and
director known for
over 100 film scores and solo albums dating back to 1981. While possessing a
stylistically
distinct sound, Hisaishi’s music has been known to explore and incorporate
different genres,
including minimalist, experimental electronic, European classical, and Japanese

David Fincher-highly stylish filmmaker with a unique approach
Terence Malick -he makes films quite rarely, but he uses music incredibly well

Old interivew of ARR,contains details about his symphony work on the sufi

Verdi,Janacek and Berlioz..eagerly awaiting this album and may god bless arr

oscars represent highest honours for film music,we know arr is much more than
just a film music director,i'm sure we want arr to reach the pinnacle of
musical achievement -grammy..
Reaalizing that ARR trasnports us to divine realms with standalone film
songs,i think conference of the birds symphony will be a treasure-one for the

Nothing special Vithur!!!

Kalyan was introduced to ARR through singer Chitraji in an award function,
and Kalyan has met 2-3 times ARR and has expressed his desire to work with
him. After sometime, as usual, Kalyan also got a phone call at midnight (the
great part is ARR introducing himself *!)* that he need kannada
lyrics for Taj anthem and the very next day, he flew down to Chennai. After
ARR satisfied with the lyrics, they both came back to B'lore as ARR was
supposed to go to Canada, and there itself he recorded the song (see where
Kannada song is being composed*:)*. Apart from that, the same which
everyone knows, he has praised about his humbleness, his devotion towards
music.

[arr] Need orchestral version of lathika theme from SDM

2009-02-27 Thread krishna
Hi,
I'm sure all you rahmaniacs watched the music presentation by the
academy's orchestra before the score award, from SDM lathika's theme
orchestral version was played:it was touching& heavenly.Request to post
the same,if somebody can rip that:
Not surprisingly Hans Zimmer spoke of it as the perfect love theme
which he was envious of in a nice sort of way.

[arr] Themes/Genres that might enable ARR for next Oscar/GG/Bafta etc :-)

2009-02-26 Thread krishna
Hi,
I'm sure we all are hyper-excited about Arr's musical sweep during
the awards season. But call me greedy:-) I certainly would love ARR to
win more internation awards and global recognition.
Rahman's thumping, colourful and infectious score for Slumdog
millioaire has won him the Oscars/GG/BAFTA/many critics awards,
proves that there's no exact choice (-read orchestral scores)
candidate for nominations/wins.Having said that,if you analyse the
90's and this decade you can glean some insights.
Cartoon/animated films are a perennial favourite of the awards jury;
Just to illustrate,Alan Menken(beauty &
beast, aladdin, pocahontas),Arr's fav Hans Zimmer(the lion king) have
won oscar's for this genre and recently Michael Giachhino
(ratatouille),Thomas Newman(wall-e)have recieved nominations.Animated
films offer a wide canvas for musical expression and would be a great
opportunity for ARR to let loose his wild imagination.
The other surefire nomination/win in any category in awards would be
a holocaust drama.Consider this year alone -The
Reader,Defiance.Personally i would love ARR to do full length pure
orchestral score in this genre.
Please add your thoughts here;

hi..yes indeed..the last 2 min or so of 'rehna tu' are what makes
this song such a gem..not to mention the background music which, on careful
listening, appears to 'crawl' onto you ..each and every note is captivating.
.and when the song climaxes, its nothing short of breathtaking. ..excellent

Continuum in its own is not an instrument that generates sound. Its a

finger board coupled with synth & softwares to generate. It employs a

very interesting 3 D (X-Y-Z) finger movement to play..uhh I cant

explain more

I recommend http://www.hakenaud io.com/Continuum / to learn more.

Jordan Rudess has used this device more extensively but AR's usage in

Rehna Tu is exceptional because he is blending the complete Carnatic

Vinod..superb topic..and superb questions..

one question from me -

- After the release of "Thakshak" audio, I remember reading an AR interview
in which he said- Had the Thakshak audio been a bigger success than it were
(in terms of reaching common people or audio sales etc..), the music
compositions would have taken a different turn. have you ever composed music
in that flavour again? If so, which movie? (I guess En Swasa Katre was also
on the same lines..released in that year.)

guys..write in..your questions as well..hopefully one day we will get the
answers..from AR himself..

Re: [arr] If classic composers were around today.........

2009-02-03 Thread Rama Krishna
Few points that i am educated about arr's way

   - Artists are given freedom to compose/sing/play more than one tune (SPB
   acknowledges this whole heartedly)
   - Credibility to artists by displaying their names on Disks/cartons which
brings them a focal in market (Shivamani mentioned in couple of interviews)
   - ARR respects each artists and his focus is totality output by mix and
match of contribution of all the artists (Hariharan & SPB singing roja jane
mann; jana gana mana tune by major artists)
   - His focus is teaching, encouraging young artists irrespective of
experience, name or fame, nationality (mentioned in one of artist's
   interviews)
   - He still says he can do better (thirst/fear for/of best output) and he
mentions in one of the interviews he says he relaxes only in the time gap
his project is completed (appreciated) and new one is about to commence
   - Last and the most important thing, "all credits to Allah alone)

I have noticed mix and match of few qualities of other artists (probably I
am not aware), which make me feel ARR is ARR

So many great Rahman albums, so many great songshow can one really
rank and compare? Each soundtrack offers so much. Yet, somehow, Dil
Se always emerges the champion of champions for me. For me, this is a
PERFECT PERFECT soundtrack. Not a single flaw (well except maybe
lacking an instrumental) . The grandeur of the music, the soul, the
melody, the rhythms, the sound, the singing, the undescribable feeling
when listening from start to finish.I think Dil Se will remain my
number one forever.

Sorry, but I dont understand how ghazal is equated to a real musician. And I
am very sorry to hear Jagjit Singh say these. Quality of a musician comes
from the quality of his songs not from his genre.

[arr] Taxi Taxi inspired from Chaos theory

>From Roja to Taal to Slumdog, ARR's journey has been tremendous As we
all know, its his faith towards god, hard work, family, creative persons
etc. have been the causes of his success, but apart from in this Journey
there are some drivers also played a vital role such as I can recall, the
Roja songs were to introduced to Subhash Ghai through his driver and so as
to Danny the Hindi songs of ARR.

Is this inspired ARR to do Taxi Taxi. LOL.

[arr] Slumdog Millionaire win is a tribute to Mumbai

Music maestro A R Rahman, the first Indian to win a Golden Globe, was very
nervous at the award ceremony as he did not want to let down a billion
people back home in India.

In an exclusive interview to NDTV's Sarah Jacob, Rahman says that *Slumdog
Millionaire

*'s win is a tribute to Mumbai. Excerpts:

*NDTV*: You've worked with Shekhar Kapoor in *Elizabeth*, Andrew Lloyd
Webber in *Bombay Dreams*, you have performed with Michael Jackson, you also
wrote the music for the threatre production of *The Lord of the Rings*.
After all these international projects, what does winning a Golden Globe
mean to you?

*A R Rahman*: For me it's an award, but for all Indians it's a great deal. I
was so terrified yesterday at the award ceremony. I didn't want to let down
a billion of people back home. So, it was great when I received it, I was
very excited. I've never been so excited about any other award before.

*NDTV*: How did you celebrate your win? We've seen
champagnebottles
and chocolates all over your room.

*A R Rahman*: I don't drink unfortunately, but there were a lot of champagne
bottles sent to me by my friends back home. But the excitement was more in
India. Forty-four channels were broadcasting simultaneously. I'm feeling
proud about it. Last couple
of
months have been very sad, it's great to see people happy.

*NDTV*: How did you get involved with *Slumdog Millionaire*? What attracted
you to this project?

*A R Rahman*: I don't know. I might have said no to the project, but
something inside me said that it would be a great thing to work on.

[arr] ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ — And A.R. Rahman — Win Big At Golden Globes

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ — And A.R. Rahman — Win Big At Golden Globes
Published by Brian Jacks on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 1:27 am.

The Danny Boyle-helmed “Slumdog Millionaire” may have officially left its
one-time underdog status behind, as the Indian romance drama took home awards
for Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score at the 2009 Golden
Globes.
The film had ridden a wave of critical acclaim, and the wins now help cement it
as an incoming Oscar heavyweight. Among those celebrating is noted composer
A.R. Rahman, whose original work and collaboration with artist M.I.A. provided
“Slumdog” with its venerable score. We caught up with Rahman recently and spoke
to the musician about the film, his music and what its successes mean for the
people of India. Watch the resulting chat below, and then click here for our
full interview with A.R. Rahman.

[arr] Slumdog Millionaire’: A Triumph For South A sians Everywhere

2009-01-12 Thread stok krishna

‘Slumdog Millionaire’: A Triumph For South Asians Everywhere
Published by MTV Movies Team on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 12:55 pm.

Contributed by Akshay Bhansali
By late Sunday afternoon, the New York Giants were out of the playoff race, but
I had to move on. I had another team to route for, this time at the Golden
Globes.
Team Slumdog’ is proud: The success of “Slumdog Millionaire,” has virtually the
entire Desi (a.k.a. South Asian) population on the planet energized. An Indian
film — or film with Indian subject matter — has never won an Oscar. “Water” and
“Lagaan” came close. Heck, an Indian film star had still never presented an
award at a major U.S. award show before!
But all that changed last night. The reigning king of Bollywood, Indian actor
Shahrukh Khan, presented an award, and in the end “Slumdog” came away with FOUR
Golden Globes!
Producer/composer A. R. Rahman — who we spoke with about the his “Slumdog”
soundtrack last month — won for Best Original Score for the film. Rahman is
India’s Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer. He’s done more than100 movies soundtracks
in 17 years in the business.
So in the end, Sunday evening wasn’t so bad. Sure, Eli and the boys are out,
but “Slumdog” appears to be a viable contender at this year’s Oscars. Jai ho!!!
