Hi Rahmaniacs,
 
I managed to get one copy of Provoked DVD today from landm...@forum in 
Bangalore. They also have three more copies of the same there. Hurry up if 
anyone wants. As I already have a VCD of the Provoked if anyone is interested I 
can arrange to send it.
 
Also there are two copies of Fire DVD in StarBazaar near Forum. If you hurry up 
you will be able to grab it.
 
Both are costing Rs.399. The Fire DVD has a 20% discount tag on it. HURRY 
UP...
 
Also SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE soundtrack is available in Landmark HURRY UP

Provoked has the following 4 tracks:
 * Alive * 04:21
 * Carry mr home inkle * 06:01
 * Save You * 04:30
 * Shillong* 04:53

Are all of these, alongwith the BGM of the film done by ARR?

having seen the film, I think BGM is surely ARR style.

But the above doesn't have the casting track that I heard in the hindi 
dubbed DVD film. Where to get that from?

Just saw provoked on the DVD. It was easily available at my CD walah.

There is only one song in the movie, Chal Muskara, in the closing 
casting. But, the casting mentions some other music things, I don't know 
whether they were songs or BGMs.

The question is: When the movie has been completed and released, what is 
the point in people telling in this thread that the music rights holding 
company hasn't got music from ARR so they are not able to release it.

I mean, ARR has completed the music, so why wouldn't he or the director 
or producer give it to the music company to release it???

Now, about the movie.

What a lovely movie. Perfection, Perfection, Perfection.

It strictly sticks to the facts. Ghajini unnecessarily shown too much 
hard hot violence that was not even related to the main story of the 
film. And Provoked could have shown much more violence and many more 
types of humiliations, as that is the basic theme of the movie, and that 
would have attracted viewers to the movie, but it showed minimal 
violence, and that makes it a lovely movie to see, not to be distracted 
by violence of this individual couple's life, rather concentrating on 
the general marital violence.

The BGMs are superb. They do come to notice at most of the points and 
they do carry the film forward.

The sole song Chal Muskara is such a haunting one. A pleasure to hear. A 
must hear for all ARR fans.

The find of the movie is, guess what, Aishwarya Roy. I never had much 
regard for her acting, but this film silenced me into dumbness. She has 
acted so superbly, so naturally. It is like a bud opening up to become a 
flower. Her transformation is a metamorphosis, so smooth, so natural, 
with such a perfection. Your heart would go out for her. her dialog 
delivery had been so contained, so low-key, basically in chaste punjabi 
to begin with and then she learns English and gains confidence. I wonder 
why she didn't get several awards for best actress, and the movie and 
director should also have been showered with awards.

Go see it.

ripped, please guide me about the free software and the method to do it 
and I would rip and post to the group.

As the audio is not release, I wonder if gops can make an exception for 
this movie, seeing the craving of ARR fans, to allow posting its ripped 
bgm/ song in the group.

Rahman did also compose Shillong Shillong and Cary Me

based on the BGMs I heard on the website.  The music is exquisite 
and divine to say the least.  Some of the songs are out, but the 
real treat is the BGM tracks.  I think an executive somewhere is 
sitting on the soundtrack, not caring about its release.  We need to 
develop a petition to push to get this soundtrack available.  I 
encourage all Rahman fans to really push for this.  It's worth it.

Checked karen davids myspace page and these are the 4 tracks up there.
"Carry me home" is the latest live studio recording (inklien version) up
there and not normal one which was previosly there. So somebody has recorded
it from her myspace page.
But only the track "Alive" is from Provoked.
I seached for provoked tracks on the net and was really surprised to see a
site giving mp3 ringtones (25secs) of "Alive" in both English and Hindi
(Jiye To Jiye).
Has anyone heard this Hindi version of Alive before ?

London. A girl from Punjab is married to a young NRI. She reaches her new
home with many dreams and aspires for a new life full of spare time to watch
rainbow every morning. Alas, her dream is cut short by her husband who is
linked with other girls and to wine.


Don't the two stories resemble much? Both are related with violence against
women. While the first one decides to end the relationship silently and take
solace in the arms of another star of the industry, the latter decides to
teach a lesson to her husband and burns him alive. The common factor in both
the stories is Aishwarya Rai. In the first story, Aish was the real
character and in the second she plays one on screen in this week's film
'Provoked'. 'Provoked' is based on the real life incidents of Kiranjeet
Ahluwalia, who symbolizes domestic violence in Britain.

of Kiranjeet Ahluwalia. Aishwarya plays Kiranjeet in the film. Kiranjeet was
in India recently on a short trip with film's director Jag Mohan Mundhra (He
has cut his name short to Jag Mundhra). When I met Kiranjeet , she looked
like any ordinary Indian woman settled abroad. She speaks good Punjabi and
also English with British accent.

prison. When I asked her about her reaction when she saw 'Provoked' for the
first time, she couldn't speak anything. Her eyes were moist and her face
showed pain. She took time to be normal again and then praised Aishwarya for
being able to do a role that required hard labor. She feels that Aishwarya
has been experiencing the same pain though not as much as she had , when Jag
Mundhra offered her this role.

the role of Bhagat Singh's fiancée. That girl also suffers a lot, but her
story is still untold. Kiranjeet suffered in an educated society of Britain.

plays this battered Punjabi housewife having two children. She is unable to
cope up with the changed face of life. Naveen Andrews plays her husband
again as he played in 'Pride And Prejudice', too. He plays Deepak Ahluwalia
who is an alcoholic and over-possessive. He gives a damn to her wife. Every
time Kiranjeet tries to escape, he will find her and beat him more brutally.
One day, Kiranjeet gets fed up and kills her husband by burning him alive.

Veronica Scott (Miranda Richardson) who is in fact a stepsister of Lord
Edward Foster (Robbie Coltrane), a highly respected queen's counsel. What

The case is picked up by an organization called Southall Black Sisters. They
start a crusade for justice to Kiranjeet and so much was the impact of their
movement that the British Legal System had to change its verdict. The law is
changed and Kiranjeet is set free to live happily ever after with her kids.

isn't an easy story to make a film like 'Provoked' on it. But, Jag
Mundhra who won laurels in his last 'Bawandar' also on atrocities against
women has tried hard and succeeded this time. First, he managed to convince
Aishwarya Rai to do this role. Aishwarya didn't have the dates: she said she
could give just 38 days and Mundhra completed it during that period. The
pain in Kiran's story provoked Jag Mundhra to film it. These kinds of films
can be made with zeal and passion only. No director can make this film with
Aishwarya without months of planning, but Mundhra has done it. Kudos to him
!.

"Alive" and "Carry Me Home" was up on Karen Davids myspace page. I think
"Save Me" was also there. But dont remember seeing "Shillong".
Sometime back there was a hack to download mp3s from myspace just like
d/ling videos from youtube. Myspace fixed the problem pretty quickly. But
somebody could have sneaked it by then.

Does it have the new version of Alive also there on Karens myspace page ? Is
the "Shillong" song also a full version or is it the 30 sec samples
available on the net ?

Apparently ARR is still working on enhancing the mixing of the BGM tracks. It's 
unclear at this
point, how much longer Eros would remain interested in releasing the soundtrack 
considering
that the movie has released and the DVD is due for release in a few days.

I heared the Theme music as well as the Bit songs in the official site
www.provokedthemovie.com. Those tarcks were excellent and up to the 
ARR's standards. I am waiting to  buy the CD or DVD only for the first 
track which is in the Music preview in the webpage.

heard its been dubbed into 4 to 5 languages. like Karen David & SHreya goshal 
we donno who else singing in other languages. just making all language songs

been merely a downbeat, right-on trawl. Mixed Indian and Western cast --
with Bollywood queen Aishwarya Rai surrounded by stalwarts like Miranda
Richardson, Robbie Coltrane and Rebecca Pidgeon -- turn the true story of a
case that changed British law into an old-style melodrama (in the best
sense) complete with a feel-good ending. With strong reviews, solid business
looks likely, with some crossover beyond the curry belt. Pic also opens the
Indian Film Festival in Los Angeles on April 17.*

Largely English-language pic goes out in India in a variety of
regional-language versions, but will mainly appeal there to metro auds. Much
will depend on Rai's local pulling power (not necessarily guaranteed in the
past), though the current hype surrounding her upcoming marriage to actor
Abhishek Bachchan won't hurt one bit.

Main surprise is that pic was directed by veteran journeyman Jag Mundhra,
whose 20-odd-year career has encompassed direct-to-vid soft-porn schlockers
(several with "Provoked" co-scripter Carl Austin), as well as occasional,
more serious movies (2000's "Bawandar," aka "Sandstorm"). Working from a
screenplay that adheres pretty closely to the facts, Mundhra delivers a work
that plays like a toned-down version of mainstream Indian cinema, with d.p.
Madhu Ambat's saturated lensing and well-composed widescreen visuals
bringing a South Asian feel to the U.K.-set material.

Pic gets straight down to business as, on the night of May 9, 1989,
British-born Indian Deepak Ahluwalia (Naveen Andrews) is horribly burned in
the bedroom of his suburban London home. Kiranjit (Rai), his Punjabi wife
and mother of two, is found in shock outside.

Not denying the charge of incinerating her spouse, Kiranjit (who speaks
little English) is accused of attempted murder when her prints are found on
the gasoline can. Though her body shows evidence of regular beatings, her
barrister Miriam (Pidgeon, with a slightly wobbly English accent) says she
can't claim self-defense, as Deepak was asleep at the time. Case is also
taken up by sparky Indian-born activist Radha Dalal (Nandita Das).

When Deepak finally dies from his burns, Kiranjit is charged with
first-degree murder, brought to trial in December and sentenced to life in
prison.

Multiple story strands keep the pic moving without focusing solely on
Kiranjit, a gentle, passive soul who tells Radha she feels "free" in jail
after years of spousal abuse. Early on, flashbacks to the early years of her
marriage start punctuating the narrative. And in a smart dramatic move, the
script also sketches Kiranjit's jailmates in some detail, especially tough
but tender cell companion, Veronica "Ronnie" Scott (Richardson), and prison
bully Doreen (TV's Lorraine Bruce).

like Richardson and Das, both excellent, that broadens the pic's emotional
palette. As Radha and lawyer Anil Gupta (Raji James), build a case for
appeal, and sympathetic ex-cop James O'Connell (Nicholas Irons) gives
crucial new evidence, the movie becomes a genuine heartwarmer, with a
rousing court perf by Kiranjit's new barrister (Coltrane).

Main weakness is that, in the flashbacks, Deepak's role has little
backgrounding, and his violent outbursts are given no psychological
underpinnings. Picture is more a quality meller, with clearly defined heroes
and villains, than a slice of social realism. But for viewers prepared to go
with the flow, it works at a gut, movie-movie level.

Technical package is smooth, with a warm score by star Indian composer A.R.
Rahman. For the record, Kiranjit Ahluwalia's case was instrumental in
getting U.K. law to recognize battered-wife syndrome.

This is most disappointing news! I hope ARR/Jag Mundhra will pass on the music 
score to them for a release.

  Could you check with ARR to see what's happening on this regard?

If ARR is looking for more scoring projects in the West (like what he's doing 
in Golden Age; even there it is Armstrong who is leading the project) more of 
his music scores need to be released. 
What's worrying is that Eros is looking at only the songs to be the 
selling-point. When will instrumental score ever be considered sellable in 
India? 
There are instances of score releases like Black, Eklavya and Sarkar but all 
those were big projects (with the advantage of Bachchan acting and hence more 
publicity). Provoked is a small film (even with Aishwarya Rai) so I can partly 
understand Eros' unwillingness. What about foreign music labels? Or ARR's own 
upcoming label? Heck, if it is so expensive why not try an internet release on 
Itunes or something similar?

Its a beautiful melody...now the chances of audo release seem brighter..its on

MUMBAI: Director Jagmohan Mundhra's Provoked starring Aishwarya Rai is a real 
life story
dealing with domestic violence. The film was sent for censorship late last 
month wherein it was
passed with an 'A' certificate. This incidentally miffed the director.

"The film Provoked deals with domestic violence wherein Aishwarya Rai is 
subjected to physical,
mental and verbal abuses by her husband. Hence the film had many abusive words. 
So we had to
give it an adult certificate," says Censorship Examining committee member 
Nandini Sardesai.

She further adds, "But Mundhra was not content with this outcome. So he agreed 
to delete the
four letter words and got the film for re-censorship. Now it has been given a 
'U/A'
certificate."

Sardesai says that Mundhra felt the need for the film to reach a wider audience 
because of its
delicate issue. Giving the film an A certificate would have, thus limited the 
audience in the
theatres. As a result, he agreed to delete abusive language from the movie.

Additionally, in order to reach a cross section of the society, Mundhra is also 
dubbing the
film in the Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu languages. However, Mundhra will 
have to apply
independently for censorship of each dubbed version. 

Though the release date of the film isn't finalized, Mundhra is planning to 
release the movie
after 4 April, once the exam and the Cricket World Cup fever subsides.

The film was also screened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2006.

'Mangal Pandey - The Rising' may have turned out to be a
disappointment, as far as its music sales are concerned but his 'Rang
De Basanti' has more than compensated with consistent sales over the
months inspite of a slow beginning.
Now his next BIG release is the musical score of
'PROVOKED', an international film by Jag Mundhra starring Aishwarya Rai
in a central role. On catching a sneak peak of the film's music, one
just can't help but salute the master in A.R. Rehman who has come up
with a poignant, soul-stirring and a thoughtful score.
Suiting the mood of the film, the score has a
painful feel to it and promises to enhance the proceedings as a part of

Aishwarya Rai's 'Provoked' to be screened at IIFA

After its entry in Cannes, screening of the Aishwarya Rai starrer
Provoked will be the highlight of the International Indian Film
Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony to be inaugurated on June 14 in Dubai.

The film festival, besides showing famous Hindi movies like Parineeta
and Bluffmaster , will also provide a feast of regional movies to film
lovers for the first time, an official from Wizcraft International
Ltd, the event managers for IIFA, said in New Delhi adding last year
only one regional movie Shwaas in Marathi language had made entry.


Directed by Jagmohan Mundhra of Bawandar fame, 'Provoked' deals with
the issue of domestic violence and is based on a true story of an
Indian housewife in London and has earned good reviews from critics.

Unveiling the three-day schedule for the extravaganza of Indian films,
"most of the biggest Indian stars, including South Indian actors like
Mammootty , Mohanlal and even some famous Hollywood names are expected
to attend the awards ceremony and the other related functions in
Dubai," he said.

Apart from the annual charity function, media briefings and a rare
interaction between the film stars and their fans, this year IIFA
would also launch a book capturing the essence of the Indian film
cinema, he said.

Trying to shed the pro-Bollywood image, 14 regional movies have been
included in the festival, which will also have two-day Global Business
Forum in collaboration with FICCI.
