A comment posted in response to a article on The Oakland Press a day before the
concert
"their opened for a concert is that place even safe to go in i drove by and the
weeds were taller than a 30 year old oak tree, this place is a dump and unsafe
please tear it down if this is the way your going to keep it up this is a sad

Bits of news I got from various places... on tis

AR.Rahman on his Facebook profile...

"Just back from the hospital It's a miracle that my team escaped with minor
injuries The lighting rig came apart Thanks to the almighty that everyone's
safe" -AR.Rahman
http://www.facebook.com/#!/arrahman?v=wall&story_fbid=137265452955171

And tis is wat the silverdome page says
http://www.silverdomeevents.com/

Jai Ho Ar Rahman has been cancelled

Tonight's Jai Ho concert has been cancelled.

Full refunds will be made available to all ticket holders. As soon as refund
procedure details are complete more information will be made available.

Silver Dome Facebook page gives the following details

The Silverdome : The Silverdome Technical issues with the stage have caused the
cancellation of the A.R. Rahman concert this evening. All tickets will be
refunded in full, we'll post more information as it becomes available. This was
an issue with the traveling stage and rigging brought in by the promoter.

putting the blame completely on ARR's crew.. :(
Glad ppl are safe... cant ask for more.. but sad for the fans who are missing
out on an amazing show cheer up guys...u will get ur chance am sure ARR wil
think of something special for the fans in the town :)

[arr] Re: Jai Ho Song List - impression

2010-06-18 Thread Jahanzeb
well Holi Aayi (Mangal Pandey) is surely an odd choice.

i can see that the list is missing some of his biggest (Hindi) hits e.g.
Muqabla (Humse Hai Muqabla), Kehna hi kya (Bombay), Choti si asha (Roja),
Chanda re (Sapnay), Tanha tanha (Rangeela), Taal se taal (Taal), Tere bina
(Guru), Mitwa & Chale chalo (Lagaan), Masakali (D6), Saathiya & Chupke se
(Saathiya), Satrangi (Dil se), Aditi (JTYJN) etc.

I have never ever thought ARR will dance on the stage.
But now that does not seem to be far away at all..
by his next round of tour he might have a personal choreographer
and might stun people..

[arr] Re: Jai Ho Song List - Review -pn

2010-06-14 Thread kitcha_swamy
I attended the Jai Ho Concert in NY. It was a great experience to witness
Maestro AR in a grandeur environment with power packed energy & stunning dress
changes :). Well, to be frank, this concert is all about AR & AR only. I saw
ONLY YOU (sing it like Only You from Vandemataram) thalaivaa. I had taken my
Binoculars, so I was following AR everywhere LOL.

I think its not easy to package full fledged songs in a short span of 2hrs & 40
mins. The concert had non stop music with mind blowing visuals/virtual sets,
that was running in the background, all through. Lukka Chuppi visuals got stuck
on to my head now. From now on, the moment I hear Jai Ho Concert, all I could
think of is Lataji singing from the screen, looking down, where AR watches her
from the steps. Oh Man. Yes, it was truly a majical experience. I believe that
AR would have enjoyed doing Lukka Chuppi, the most in the whole show :).

There were other singers as mentioned by our friends in some of the previous
posts, but none of them had an opportunity to sing for an elaborate amount of
time. Hariharan's presence as usual got the crowd on their feat. Hariji started
with Bharat Humko & you could imagine the roar from people :). The unplugged
version was another big highlight. I think the best singer in the whole show
was AR. Listening to Khwaji was like hearing the Originals. AR Rocked. I was so
glad to see AR himself singing a lot of #s. The energy and dedication to sing
the song to its perfection was showing on AR's face, even when he was
constantly walking on steps, playing keyboard, shaking his legs with fellow
dancers/singers :). Hats off to AR & Team in giving such wonderful & quality
entertainment. I'm sure that the total tour would be a Massive Hit. Its going
to be a really tiresome tour but nevertheless, AR & Team is a symbol of Energy.
They can handle it with ease :).

Jai Ho !!!

It is a pity if people do not know Only You of VM.
They might have missed Roja janeman but I felt that
people have definitely enjoyed Bharat Humko.
How about add Tu hi re?
I do not know about the NYC stage size but at DC some part
of the orchestra had to hide behind those mechanical slides/stairs.
Positives- ARR all the way, fully energetic and all new wardrobe.
Negatives- Quality of the sound system and can be bigger orchestra.

Hi Sanish,
Don't worry. Even I bought tickets for the NY concert through AR's
website(arrahman.com), almost 2 months back. I got the tickets 2 days back and
the concert is tomorrow (Friday) :). Even I was scared but I got prompt replies
from one Mr.Sergio from arrahman.com support, who replied to my queries about
the ticket status. You should be getting your tickets just around the time your
concert in chocago is scheduled.

Even if you don't receive at the last moment, seems like they will be able to
arrange & print off tickets at the box office. So nothing to worry and have a
great concert ahead. I'm very excited for the NY concert tomorrow :).

I said whoever mentioned in the Ads they r free ..and they will perform in
all concerts FOR SURE !! Organizers might not have taken any risk of putting
an Artist's name who is busy with something else and cant attend one certain
concert !! I am not praising anyone here, this doesnt mean i dont praise them
... If u r working with ARR , U R THE BEST of whatever you do ...therez no
doubt it ..Praising would be an waste of time , i prefer enjoying their work
rather than praising them with an thousand word Essay !!

You've got me wrong here i think !!

Yes..!

Both Alka Yagnik and Kavita Krishnamurthy have been in ARR concerts..just
once!! Shreya Ghoshal is yet to team up with him.

But i really miss the regular veteran singers in AR's concerts like Chitra and
Sadhana Sargam. They really perform with perfection in all the concerts!

They are not on tour because they are "completely free", but because they
were wanted on tour, something that the world wishes for..

If you ain't seen / heard Neethi Muhan performing Maiyaa Maiyaa, then you

I think Sadhana does not sing many songs these days, just CHUPKE SE and may be

Logistics wise I guess, having a small crew could be better ?

They should have added few songs from Nayak, 1947 Earth instead of having 9

Any suggestions would help. The clips are over 10 minutes, so YouTube

I will try again to load the files in viddler which seemed to work for everyone.

[arr] Re: "'Jai Ho' is from Ramayan to Rahman; I will take no credit for it" - Gulzar

2009-12-11 Thread kaissiom

Wait, I thought it was Subhash Ghai who had come with the "Jai Ho" hook for
Yuvraaj(may be for Shano), but it wasn't used for Yuvraaj. And then Rahman
used it for Slumdog and even gave credit to Subhash Ghai for the two words "Jai
Ho". This was all in Rahman interviews, post Oscars. If this Subash Ghai
involvement is true then it makes sense for Gulzar sahab to not take credit for
"Jai Ho", but for the rest of the song lyrics. Credit where it belongs...

2009-12-08 Thread balas_only
Gulzar Saab is really a gentleman personified. He is so simple and unassuming.
That is the reason he could provide amazing lyrics to the great ike R D Burman
who himself was so simple and unassuming. His association with R D Burman was
legendary. Now his association with our beloved ARR is also becomming
legendary. ARR is also so simple and unassuming. Maybe all greats are alike.
May this association with the present great ARR continue for long and keep
providing us with amazing music.

In times where everyone is trying to hog the limelight and steal credits for
themselves, it's highly refreshing and humbling to see artists esp seniors of
Mr.Gulzar's traits and characteristics. God bless him and Rahman and may they
continue giving us magical numbers in future.

[arr] Re: JAI HO concert- disappointment

2009-10-13 Thread hathim2

Hi a k,
I am a tamilian too. I like to listen to arr's tamil songs as well. But i m
disappointed that u being an ARR fan said like this. Why do we segregate songs
based on language and region?? On any day it is an ARR song and we should be
glad that we are hearing it live. As ARR fan we should stand as examples for
other ppl in INdia to show unity. The same ARR who disappointed u, have sung a
tamil song in a Hollywood film. I am not against u r disappointment, just felt
that i need to say this. Sorry if had hurt u.

Chaiyya chaiyya wins hands down. I dont feel even ARR will be able to be a part

Mani's idea, Santosh Shivan's photography, Farah's choreography, Mallaika's

Vimal, this personal attack is unwarrented and totally uncalled for. Lets be
polite even when we dont agree with a fellow member's opinions/accusations.
Lets not stoop down to the level of using the F word in this group, esp.
against another member. Its disgusting.

Yeah..but a very good attempt by foreigners on an Indian dance. Jai Ho was

[arr] Re: Jai Ho World Tour, Pune - AR Rahman to hoist the Jai Ho flag

2009-05-06 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
It is certainly a matter of pride if ARR has chosen Pune as venue to launch his
new initiative and address the media tomorrow. Our best wishes to him ! Pune is
home of the talented RAHMANIA team of Anmol Bhave's The Wandering Souls and it
would be indeed a privilege to welcome all Rahmaniacs to Pune on 31'st May

Secondly if Balewadi stadium is the venue for Pune concert, it is TOO
Far off from city centre. Until and unless you have your own vehicle, it is
difficult to access the venue, especially at night after the concert is over.
Also to my knowledge, there is no public bus service or auto-rickshaw
availability to that venue. I presume, the organisers are aware of Balewadi
stadium's logistical issues.

And the last point about 10pm deadline for all public events in Maharashtra.
The organisers will definitely factor-in this complicated issue during the
planning of the concert. They have to start the concert at around 6pm if they
have any chance to finish it by 10pm after taking some delays and breaks into
account. Sunlight in Pune is quite good till 7 to 715pm so the stage / lighting
and special effects will have to get planned accordingly. I think this 10pm
deadline does not exist in Kerala, thats how they could conduct rehersals
throughout the night and also the actual concert ending at 0030 hrs. Lucky you !

Finally, will the organisers give some chance to the local talent during the
concert ? Somehow I doubt that this will happen after reading the feedback of
Calicut concert.

Disagree with this. I do not see the similarity. Guru Bhai was more of a
marching chant. As opposed to Jai ho which is rich in classical orcastration in
the background witha peepy beat.

The zeherila zeherila pyar in Daud itself becomes a BGM in Dilse where its

Its Guru Bhai Guru Bhai track I think. I am sorry if I am wrong.
If you also observe Shaukh Hain there is also one more track in SDM close to

I agree that "Jai ho" is not a great song in Rahman's standard, but I believe
it's certanly a great WESTERN song! Who can put the spanish lyrics, roaring
drums, high pitched Jai ho in a standard song? It's a tribute song for the
bollywood, you can trace the elements from 60's to todays music in bollywood.
Only minus thing is the mixing & editing is not upto Rahman's standard which
because of he took only 1/5th of his standard time for SDM's music! But yet,
SDM is soundtrack for a hollywood movie...

So Jagjit ji this was not Rahman's best composition deserving a Oscar. Fine.

So his not so best is much much much better than so many other music directors
that it could get two Oscars. Great.

Jagjit ji thanks for this wonderful compliment.

he hardly comes across as a melancholic in front of the press. lol.

few weeks ago he sort of "Challenged" rahman to compose gahzals. and his choice

I think repetative singing of Ghazals has made Jagjit singh a melancholic and
pessimistic person..so he can not admire songs which reflect hope, enthusiasm
and optimism.
Afterall it needs guts to appreciate others' works and their success.
Unfortunately Mr. Jagjit singh lacks it.

[arr] Re: 'Jai Ho' did not deserve an Oscar: Jagjit Singh

2009-04-08 Thread Jahanzeb Farooq
someone teach this poor guy what music is apart from the hundreds of ghazals he
has composed/sung which all sound same. i really hate this arrogant man.

to me honestly Jai ho is one of ARR's bests and very much deserved the Oscar.
period.

[arr] Re: 'Jai Ho' did not deserve an Oscar: Jagjit Singh

2009-04-08 Thread Dinesh Vaidya
I remember reading many emails on this matter a month ago ? Does that mean
Jagjit Singh said this AGAIN ? That is really odd !

Anyways, "Jai Ho" got an Oscar, so Jagjit Singh can't do much about it except
make such statements and then give a pseduo-logical / analytical explaination
to what he said. May be for publicity of his new album ?

Moreover to which song the Oscar should go is a decision taken by the OSCAR
management based on the bunch of songs which is in front of them, so they felt
Jai Ho was better over others in complete packaged product by which I mean the
lyrics, music, vocals... everything !

It's a free country, so Jagjit Sing can certainly say what he should say.
we ignore it !

In any case, Jagjit Singh is good but Rahman is GREAT !

Best regards
Dinesh Vaidya

IMHO, its been targeted to american and PCD audiences as much focus is
on their voice and little on music and usual interludes by Rahman.
Also I miss the H.Shridar strings part. IMHO.

But the goal of promoting for RNB n Hiphop audience is well done and
could have been more elaborated IMHO
