Maybe ARR was busy when he made Dilse, whereas he gave full time dedication

Same with Jaane Tu I think. But I think ENDHIRAN will be super duper!

Bro, what do you think about ARR-Danny Boyle combo bro?

Yes I am not in India because I am not an Indian :):)
I am in Denmark and here they certainly don't show South Indian films. However
DVD Rips of new South Indian films are often available for downloading, with
subtitles. Rawat I have sent you a private mail (to avoid promoting piracy)
regarding that. hope you have received it.

Thanks for this info. I an quite surprised to know this, in that I (and people
i know) liked RHTDM very much and as much i know it was a success too. and to
me Diya Mirza wasn't a bad choice at all, in fact she suited to role very well.
GM shall really try Bollywood, to reach to wider audience and acclaim. outside
India not many people know about Tamil industry and films (i came to know only
because of ARR). also i think Bollywood also needs a talented director like GM
in this time when almost every director is churning out crap after crap.

though I am cynical about awards in general...i'd love to see VTV win every
award it can.it really is one of those special albums in ARR's career and a
def. benchmark of his musical evolution and innovation...i think (as much as
possible) ARR/Sony/Gautham should try and get some international exposure to
the songs (reworking them in english, etc.) cuz they have the potential to be
worldwide phenoms..

Acting like the epitome of ethics, are we? This discussion is better off here -
where Suresh/ Ursmusically is arguing too, along extremely predictable lines.

http://itwofs.com/milliblog/2010/01/10/music-review-vinnaithaandi-varuvaayaa-tamil-a-r-rahman/#comments

I never said I do not download via torrents at all - but that's not the ethics
question here - the question is, do you buy the darn CD?

There are other ways one could procure audio titles, beyond streaming sites,
illegal downloads and CD purchases, which you may not even be aware. Such
opportunities are earned, not purchased.

Of course, you can conveniently dismiss this as petty because you have no
answer to the ethics question. Don't tell me that you listen to every album on
those "official sites".

I have absolutely no problem with ARR's albums because I am sure that you are
going to buy it eventually. Even otherwise, it is not going to affect the music
sales considering the huge fan-base.

Anyways, I do not want to continue this further. I think that I have made my
point clear. If you think that what you are doing is right then good for you.

dreamers, unfortunately, not many actually r like us. We download the mp3 and
then buy the CD. many r satisfied with the mp3 they download, as u said, they r
available in top notch quality which is more or less close to the CD's
quality.I think only ARR fans are loyal and buys the mp3 despite the fact they
have downloaded the mp3. The rest, as long they get the song, they r happy.
These kinda people r the 1 should need to be aware of the hardwork that all the
artist have put in to give us the output.

In US or UK once you start downloading a new movie/album from Torrents, in
90% cases you'll receive a call from your 'Internet Provider' saying it's a
violation of law and you'll get warning.

But it's not happening for any Indian Movie or music album due to
unawareness of the owner of the rights. If they start doing this in India
and abroad piracy can be handled. For that 'internet providers' in India
also should be well equipped...

Otherwise now a days the entire CD in original WAV format is available
everywhere..so one shouldn't be bothered about "Quality" to buy the
original...

Re: [arr] Re: VTV CD Cover

2010-01-11 Thread Neevan
Hey guys as an Audio Engineering student i
just wanna clear the air on this topic on audio bit rates.

The bitrate for audio cds according to the Red Book Standard is calculated as
follows=>

The bitrate of audio CD is calculated by muliplying the sampling rate by the
resolution by the
number of channels:

44.1 kHz X 16 bit X 2 chan. = 1,411 kbps (Kilo Bits Per Second)

So pls do not be mistaken that 128kbps is CD quality. Also Wav and AIFF are
uncompressed loseless
audio formats as compared to MP3.

I hope u guys have a better idea about bitrates for audio CDs now.

Regards
Neevan

128kbps is cd quality ? I wonder why i have been painstakingly ripping
everything in 320 kbps variable bit rate and still cry for not getting the CD
quality.

Re: [arr] Re: VTV CD Cover

2010-01-11 Thread Naveen Naushad
No it is not.

Audio CD stores files in raw WAV format. MP3 takes this raw file and
compresses it to reduce file size. There are 2 types of compression
techniques. Lossless and Lossy. MP3 uses lossy compression algorithm, which
means it will discard some bits of data from the audio file while encoding
to create a smaller sized file. If you convert an MP3 file back to WAV, the
difference in quality will be huge.

I am sure you have used ZIP compression system on various files. Like for
example zipping a Word document (DOC) file to email it to someone and then
that receiver unzipping it to get the original DOC file. That happens
because ZIP is a lossless compression format.

Imagine if ZIP used lossy system like MP3. You will send a letter as zipped
DOC file to a friend. He will unzip and open the DOC file only to find half
the words missing in the letter. But he will still be able to understand the
contents of the letter because he can easily fill up the blanks with
probable words. But that doesn't mean he is reading the letter as intended
by you. In the end he may understand the letter but it may not contain the
same words you wrote before zipping it.

This is what happens with songs on MP3. You will listen to MP3 and believe
you heard the song. But when it is composed by someone like AR who arranges
multiple layers with minutest detailing, chances are you will miss a good
amount of detail just because MP3 as a format is not capable of preserving
it. And I am not talking about just 128 kbps MP3 here. The maximum bit rate
attainable for MP3 is 320 kbps and yet it will not come anywhere near the
quality of original CD.

Therefore always listen to songs in original CDs, like the way the composer
intended it to. Don't let MP3 decide which part of the song you should
listen and which you shouldn't. Don't allow MP3 to take away all the joy of
listening to those soulful compositions, that too for a measly Rs. 99.

And if you are like me who listens on PC and is lazy to put in CDs every
time you want to listen to, here is what you should do.

   1. Buy the original CD first (there is no legal alternative to this).
   2. Rip the songs from CD into lossless FLAC format.
   3. Listen to them in your favorite software music player. Some of them
support FLAC by default, while others have free plugin to enable playback.
   4. Rediscover what you have been missing all those years on those "CD
   quality" MP3 songs.

For those who are wondering how to convert an audio CD to FLAC file, here is
a good pictorial guide.

2010-01-11 Thread dreamers_in

I am with Karthik here. I guess as long as you end up buying the original I
don't see any harm in downloading mp3's available on the net. Most ARR fans
(including Karthik) are crazy to own the CD sleeve and at the same time
restless to listen to the songs ASAP.
As far as the quality of these mp3s are concerned, I downloaded some at 320
(odd) kbps). that is pretty good to guage ARR's work on an album.

In many cases, the songs are streamed online via official sites like Raaga,
Bollywood Hungama or Galatta. Wonder why and how you forget that part!

I've no issues in arguing/ debating this - my conscience is clear. But yes, if
its gets petty, personal and half-baked (like your argument here), I'd rather
stay out.

2010-01-11 Thread en_arvind
I think the criticism is highly unwarranted and unnecessary. If Karthik says
that he buys CDs when available we should respect his views

All of us are keen to listen to ARR's and good music from other MDs in the form
we are comfortable in...

Idle speculation about Karthik's " reviews using cheap quality illegally
downloaded songs" just wastes everyone's time.

Sometimes , Pirate People Upload The Whole ISO Image of the Audio CD .. So u
dont really have to worry about Quality .. As if u just Burn that ISO Image
Onto a blank disk .. U r getting the same Audio CD .. Without paying .. So ,
It's High-time for Music Companies to think about it .. Otherwise they might
have to face a big loss , I am assuming they already r facing Losses on VTV
for this leak .. I am Sure downloads are in Millions , If not more ..

It's time to act , So many countries dont get these CDs ...Inspite of that
..ARR's popularity is immense there ... How is that possible ? Dont they
want to buy Original CDs ? i bet they do

Thanks Suresh, for those completely unwarranted kind words.

Downloading illegal music - bad. Purchasing CDs - good. Download is done as a
matter of ease of distribution/ availability. Purchasing CD once it releases -
done as a matter of policy.

I'm touched by your concern, but. Nice way of going personal over a review.

Actually, I'm fed up with all this piracy thingI sat down and did some
basic research in the internet to understand the facts how other countries are
managing this...Fact is, inspite of being uploaded in almost all torrent sites
on day 1 of their official release, movies like Twilight and Pirates of
Carribean topped the sales charts and created records...So where does the
problem lie if there are significant number of users who are willing to buy and
own what they love? In the US and European countries, though there are physical
releases, there were also prompt digital releases online. Initially, I was
against the digital releases owing to poor quality but later realized how much
that will help the end user if you get something so handy that can instantly
play on your portables... People hear start reviewing the album after listening
to 30 sec promos! Imagine won't they buy it digitally on day 1 to listen the
whole song which is better than the
youtube versions available?? If you really need something more to enjoy in
your Hi-Fi systems, you have an option of buying a CD / DVD in addition to it
but atleast you can wait to lay your hands on the cd patiently as you have
already got something to enjoy...It's time for the music labels to act smartly
and move forward...Let's unite as a single team and pledge that we will support
every hardworking musician for all the entertainment that we get through
them...This would ideally make piracy a non-event... Clearly, It's a war
against Pirates and Music lovers...Now you decide who should win!

I used Nokia Music Store to buy few tracks but it is all DRM protected and will
not play other than your Nokia systems.

IMO, releasing in YouTube is okay compared to releasing the MP3 outright.
Because, 99% of the times, one does not download the YT content and keep it
as the primary source of media.

So, one way, it does promote the song or video. I'd say it's one of the
safest options to let people try out the content.

That's unfortunate. Does purchased music from Itunes still contain identifying
information in the metadata?

There are some sites like this one which tell how to track down the info.
Perhaps someone wants to try that on the songs uploaded.

Announcements like 'likely to release in oct', 'likely to release in nov' and
now 'likely to relase in dec' are not helping my cause.

so after a deep long thought, i felt the best thing i can do about it
is getting frsusturated..so decided to get frusturated and
replied to the grp that 'I am frusturated' :)

2009-11-30 Thread mohammed sajin
VTV in December

 November 27, 2009

The Gautham Menon directed Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaya with Silambarasan and
Trisha will hit the screens in January 2010, perhaps for Pongal. Music for
the film scored by A R Rahman will be released in December. It is worth a
mention here that the songs of the film are the latest favorites of Trisha.
Silambarasan is waiting for the film’s release as VTV is expected to change
his image for the better.
Meanwhile Goa, the other gen-next film will have its audio launch on December
23rd. Goa, directed by Venkat Prabhu and produced by Soundarya Rajnikanth for
Ocher studios would be a hat trick of sorts for Venkat Prabhu et al if it
fares well at the BO on the lines of Chennai-28 and Saroja. Yuvan Shankar
Raja has scored music for Goa.
