Naveen,

Export the objects in XML format that you want to look through (all or
all directly related to a form(s)). You should be able to grep/find
that information much easier from there.

If you also go so far as to export a packing list, again in XML
format, then you could consider creating a new packing list from the
object names that you find. Building a Packing List by hand should
also be a fairly easy task to do manually.

You need to read the readme docs that are in the patch directory. They list

they are all in place.

Additional information about DST event and how it affects AR System

2007-03-08 Thread Easter, David
Hi All,

As mentioned on this list, we've discovered another consequence of
the start/end date shift in DST for the US/Canada that is caused by a
deficiency in the Microsoft Operating System. Due to the heightened
sensitivity to DST related issues has worked directly with Microsoft to
provide a solution to our customers. BMC has updated the technical
bulletins for DST found on Support Central to reflect this new
information and document the potential solution available from BMC and
Microsoft.

Because of the complexity of the situation, the technical bulletins have
now been broken up into three versions - representing the three
supported versions of AR System currently available (i.e. 6.0.1, 6.03,
7.0.01). AR System 5.1.2 customers should read the 6.0.1 technical
bulletin as 5.1.2 and 6.0.1 will exhibit nearly the same symptoms.
Please read the bulletins carefully - information within the bulletin
varies by version, so answers for one version may not apply to another
version. The bulletins are posted at
http://www.bmc.com/support/hou_Support_AZ_List/#R under AR System and
the appropriate version. [Due to a back-office glitch, some bulletins
may not be available until after 9pm CST on 3/8/07 or later...]

The short summary of the additional information in the technical
bulletin is this:

For AR System 7.0.01: "If your client and/or server needs to be set to
use a United States time zone, you will need to load a hot fix from BMC
(or patch 002) and set the TZ variable at your client or server.
Failure to do this will cause some displayed and submitted historical
dates to be off by one hour."

For AR System 6.03 or 6.0.1: "If your client and/or server needs to be
set to use a United States time zone, you will need to load a hot fix
from Microsoft and set the TZ variable at your client or server.
Failure to do this will cause some displayed and submitted historical
dates to be off by one hour."

The more detailed explanation is as follows:

Windows Update distributes Windows operating system fixes that will make
sure clocks are adjusted correctly moving forward. However, this
Microsoft-supplied operating system patch resolves only the DST issue
for 2007 and itself introduces an additional DST-related defect. After
the operating system is patched, historical data might be incorrect.
Because AR System stores and processes historical data, it is affected.

Details: Microsoft Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 store only one set of DST
rules for each time zone. If you display or submit a date in the past
that falls into the weeks involved in the DST changes, a call is made to
the operating system to obtain local time. This call to the operating
system applies the new 2007 rules to historical dates and is off by one
hour. Based on conversations between Microsoft and BMC, Microsoft is
looking at a Design Change Request (DCR) for storing multiple DST rules,
but this change is not guaranteed and, even if created, is not expected
to be available before this summer.

This discrepancy affects historical dates in the years prior to 2007
(that is, 2006 and earlier). The range of dates affected varies from
year to year as defined by the new DST 2007 rules, which include these
statements:

- DST will begin on the second Sunday in March instead of the first
Sunday in April.
- DST will end on the first Sunday in November instead of the last
Sunday in October.

Thus dates between the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in
April for years prior to 2006 will be affected. In the same way, dates
between the last Sunday in October and the first Sunday in November will
be affected.

Note that this issue will occur independently of the current time and
date. Thus the issue can be seen immediately after installing the
Microsoft operating system patch and will continue even if the current
local date is beyond the discrepancy between legacy and new DST dates.

There are pretty pictures in the technical bulletins that show the
issue, but simply put the effects are as follows:

For Remedy User; if the time zone is not set through the AR System User
Preference form or preference server, the following behavior occurs:

- For Standard Time to Daylight Saving Time, BMC Remedy User will
display data as one hour earlier than what is stored in the database for
dates between the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in April
in years prior to 2007. The opposite occurs (i.e. time will be one hour
later) when the date is in the Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time
shift.

- For Standard Time to Daylight Saving Time, the data submitted from BMC
Remedy User will be written to the database as one hour later than what
is in the submitted field for dates between the second Sunday in March
and the first Sunday in April in years prior to 2007. The opposite
occurs (i.e. time will be one hour less) when the date is in the
Daylight Saving Time to Standard Time shift.

The same thing happens on the AR System server. If the operating system

This wouldnt work completely...
If you apply no OS patches for DST then you need to then make sure that
when the server attempts to move the clock up an hour at 2AM on 4/1 that
you move it back then an hour.

And you also need to move it back an hour manually late october and
forward an hour when the OS tries to adjust for DST in early November.

date of 12/31/69. And then we see different results. Sometimes it is
passing through to Child forms and sometimes throws an error. I just
upgraded this morning to 6.3 Patch 21. Anyone remember a fix for this?

OT:Sun's Bug Detail Page vs. BMC Product Defect Page

Hi, Y'all:

Thank you to Lisa Kemes for sending us the link to the JDK related bug

Am I the only one who had their tongue hanging out in absolute envy

What we would do for a BMC Remedy Product Defects page like that. Could
someone on the web design team at BMC please take a look at the page?
(Yes, I have already submitted an enhancement request several months

Here are the things that I believe some of us have been asking for that
are included on the page.

1. Detailed description of the bug (that 128 character cut-off summary
has got to go)
2. Workaround (if available)
3. Evaluation of the bug including the description of the fix
4. Related bugs (with a link)
5. Not just a Status, but the actual Fix
6. The release in which the bug was/will be fixed!
7. Repeat of 6: "The release in which the bug was/will be Fixed!"

email template and carriage returns

2007-03-08 Thread Steven Pataray

I just upgraded from ARS 4.03 to ARS 6.3. I've been using asp forms to send
the email templates to my remedy email address to my HPD:HelpDesk form with
no problems, pretty simple. I'm learned from trial and error that the new
engine has the email instructions form and email template form to help
process the new template schema.

The problem I'm currently having is Carriage returns. When my email
templates gets sent I append fields together to form the Description field
formatted in an orderly matter. When I want a new line in my asp forms I
just use the vbCrLf _ to create a hard return and the continuation line. For
some reason when it gets parsed into the Email engine it doesn't know what
to do.

I read in prior posts that it will not take words like "Name:" in the fields
because it'll translate it to a keyword. But I have not read any limitations
to carriage returns or how to include it so the engine will like it. Does
anyone have any experience with this?

I just noticed that my Description field is unlimited (0 input length).
Could that be some sort of reason? It's only affecting the Description
field.

Thanks
Steve

Hi All
I am having this problem, maybe someone can shed some light on it.
I have a regular form with 3 views The two extra views are for ease of data
entry.
I have a Horizontal Navigation field on this form, and it is visible with
Public permissions on all 3 views.
Initially the Admin view is used when the form opens and this opens as a dialog
box from another form. the user can then press a button on the Horizontal Nav
field to open a dialog to open a window with one of the other views.
Ok, in the WUT everything works fine, but in Mid-tier on the other two views,
the Nav field does not appear. I thought maybe there was a problem with the
field so I deleted the field and re-created it, no success, no matter how I
open the form, in dialog form, in Submit form, in Query form, the Navigation
field does not show. I put in another nav field just to test, shows up fine on
the WUT, but not on the web.
If any one can help, I would appreciate it very much

Re: On LDAP search, "ARERR 100, Entry ID Parameter is Empty "

2007-03-08 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
It looks like your settings might be off... What do you have defined
as the Vendor field name for field 1 in your ARDBC Vendor form?
Whatever vendor field that is has null values for specific users. That
will cause the error 100 for those users.

I also notice the following (lines broken out for email readability.

   ldap_simple_bind("null", hidden)

   CLDAPSearch::Execute - ldap_search("o=my company", 2,
"(&(objectclass=inetOrgPerson)(cn=*tr*))")

   CLDAPSearch::Execute - ldap_search(page size = 1)

   Info: CLDAPSearch::Execute - ldap_search() control not found
(ldaperr 93)

In the 2nd line you have a space on the organization parameter and I
think that is causing the error in line 4. Check your AREA LDAP
Configuration form (probably the User Base field). I don't believe a
space in the organization is allowed (and in another part of the log you
have mycompany with no spaces).

Hi folks,
On searching on a vendor form baesd on ARDBC ldap, if the result is a
few records it works fine, but if there are more than a few matches,
"ARERR 100, Entry ID Parameter is Empty" shows up, and no results are
shown.

On doing the same search through a browser, it's a hit and miss and
sometimes "ARERR 100" and sometimes "ARERR 9351, Unable to set up data

If there is only one or a few matches, it always works both on Rem User

Report Creator form keeps erroring

2007-03-08 Thread Opela, Gary L Contr OC-ALC/ITMA
Win2kServer/MSSQL2k/ARS6.3nopatch

Okay, so here's the problem. Whenever I try to run a search in my 6.3
user tool against the form called 'Report Creator' I keep getting the
following error:

ARERR [8939] The AR System Plug-In server is not responding. Cannot
connect to the system at this time. Contact your AR System
Administrator for assistance. : RPC: Timed out

We have the following line in armonitor.cfg:

"\arplugin.exe" -i " " -m

We have the following line in ar.cfg:

Plugin: reportplugin.dll

However, whenever we go into task manager, there is no arplugin.exe
started. We open a shell window to start it manually by copy/pasting the
line above, and then it shows up in the task manager, but the search
still does not run.

I've never had to set up the report form before, so I'm rusty at it.
Additionally, the documentation has been less than helpful. If anyone
could tell me what I'm obviously doing wrong, or could at least point me
to what part of the documentation explains setting up your server to run
report forms, that would be real nice.

Thanks

On LDAP search, "ARERR 100, Entry ID Parameter is Empty"

2007-03-08 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Guys/gals, pardon me if this ends up being a duplicate
post, but I haven't received confirmation of previous
post, so assuming it was lost. Second time this
happened recently. Anybody else losing their posts?

Anyway, my real issue from the lost post is below.

Hi folks, On searching on a vendor form baesd on ARDBC
ldap, if the result is a few records it works fine,
but if there are more than a few matches, "ARERR 100,
Entry ID Parameter is Empty" shows up, and no results
are shown.

On doing the same search through a browser, it's a hit
and miss and sometimes "ARERR 100" and sometimes
"ARERR 9351, Unable to set up data connection, which
is preventing the application from working correclty"
appears.

If there is only one or a few matches, it always works
both on Rem User and browser. I tinkered with every
kind of ARS timeout setting in ar.conf known to
mankind, with no luck.

Here's plugin log during error (note the errors around
20, 30 lines down; then it does retrieve a large
number of results, but before completing, "-GLEWF" API
says "Fail" without explanation):

Re: JDK version compatibility for the Mid-Tier

2007-03-08 Thread Easter, David
Haven't heard anything about the BMC war files needing to be replaced.
I have heard this issue:
The following bug in Java (regression in update 11 from update 10) can
cause problems when installing the Mid-tier 7.0.1

http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6520670

The work around is simply to update the home path to point to the right
folder after installing the JDK version and then the mid-tier installer
should work fine.

Which has been discussed on this list...

David,

I would like you to know that MT 7.01 will not install without
modifications on Jave 1.5.11. I have heard from support that certain
war files have to be replaced to make MT 7.01 install with this version.
If you try and install MT 7.01 with Java 1.5.11 you receive an error
which states that the installer can not find a compatible Java JDK.

This occured will installing MT 7.01 on a Windows 2000 server.

Does anyone have a copy of the compatibility matrix for both 6.3 and 7.0
for the versions of the JDK that can run on the mid-tier? Since BMC's
site is down I'm unable to verify that the updates our server team have
installed are compatible with the Mid-Tier.

They gave us Java 6 (1.6.0 I believe), which seems to be incompatible
with Remedy, and when I downgraded to 1.5.11, it also appears to be
incompatible. They really want to run version 6 since it's the current
one, but I know Remedy tends to be a few versions behind on the JRE.

The easiest way is to have the user press enter after entering the number that
you can drive an Active link with that would set the focus on the next field.

I would like to create three fields (for a phone number). One would be
the Area Code, then Exchange then Extension. I would LOVE it if it
would automatically tab over to the next field, when they are finished
with the first one. So if the customer were to enter "717" in the first
field (area code), it would automatically tab over to the Exchange field
and so on

Is this possible?

Arerr 9246

2007-03-08 Thread Sokol, Brian
I created a simple AR System report and I am trying to run it from the
web. I am getting this error message:
Error during processing : ARERR [9246] Cannot find report
[Ljava.lang.String;@14b2db7 of type null for form {2} on server {3}.
Please see your administrator

I also get this same message if I click the Print Case button on a Help
Desk ticket. I have had this problem for many months and BMC support has
not provided any help at all. I just finished patching my AR and mid
tier servers to 7.01 patch 1. Interesting thing is I have a dev and prod
mid tier and ar server boxes. The only combination of servers where this
does work successfully is my dev mid tier pointing to my prod ar server.

Anyone have a clue on this one.

You have a server that is ARS 5.12 on a solaris box.

ok fine..
Why not just change the time on the Server to 1 hour ahead, at 2:am and

Would this not work ?

Thats probably the Sun JDK 1.5.0_11 Registry Key bug. In Regedit check
HKLM/Software/JavaSoft/Java Development Kit/1.5/JavaHome. It should have the
path to the JDK, but you will probably see the number "1" there instead.
Workaround is to edit that key.

I'm pretty sure this has been documented by Sun as a bug and I presume it will

On LDAP search, "ARERR 100, Entry ID Parameter is Empty "

2007-03-08 Thread Rabi Tripathi
Hi folks,
On searching on a vendor form baesd on ARDBC ldap, if
the result is a few records it works fine, but if
there are more than a few matches, "ARERR 100, Entry
ID Parameter is Empty" shows up, and no results are
shown.

Here's plugin log during error (note the errors around
20, 30 lines down; then it does retrieve a large
number of results, but before completing, "-GLEWF" API
says "Fail" without explanation):

Hi All
I am having this problem, maybe someone can shed some light on it.
I have a regular form with 3 views The two extra views are for ease of data
entry.
I have a Horizontal Navigation field on this form, and it is visible with
Public permissions on all 3 views.
Initially the Admin view is used when the form opens and this opens as a
dialog box from another form. the user can then press a button on the
Horizontal Nav field to open a dialog to open a window with one of the other
views.
Ok, in the WUT everything works fine, but in Mid-tier on the other two
views, the Nav field does not appear. I thought maybe there was a problem with
the field so I deleted the field and re-created it, no success, no matter how I
open the form, in dialog form, in Submit form, in Query form, the Navigation
field does not show. I put in another nav field just to test, shows up fine on
the WUT, but not on the web.
If any one can help, I would appreciate it very much

Random Question of the Day(RQOD): "AR System User Central File" ('FileType' = "ARReport") converter to Report form?

2007-03-08 Thread Carey Matthew Black

All,

I have been waiting for BMC to do something that would provide
existing users a way to "convert" their existing User Tool Reports
into the forms that the Mid-tier uses for reports. ( If they have
supplied a standard way to do this, then I did not get the memo. )

They way I see it:
The easy part is the attachments in these two forms.
The hard part is the required fields in the Report form that are not
part of the "AR System User Central File" form.

I was thinking about building a form (display only) that would let the
user "map" and (supply the extra data values) their "AR System User
Central File" ('FileType' = "ARReport") records into new records
created in the Report form. However, before I go off and try to do
that, I wanted to ask if anyone else has already done such a converter
or if I missed the memo for how users were intended to move their
reports into the "brave new web world"?(other than by recreating them
manually)

Any comments?
Any application(s) to share? :)

Re: Is this a bug??

2007-03-08 Thread Tim Widowfield

I remember doing something similar way back in the 3.2 days. I had decided to
put an apostrophe in a field database name. I regretted doing it almost
immediately.

I would recommend using (USD) instead of ($), because inserting any character
that Remedy considers "special" into a field name or label is bound to cause
headaches down the road.

Seen some curious behaviour in the Admin Tool on V7.0.01

If I create a field and name it for example Amount Spent($)

If I create workflow using this field, especially Push Fields the admin tool
automatically converts the field name to $Amount Spent($$)$ !!

even if I change the name of the field to Amount Spent($), as soon as I save
it, the name changes, thus all actions fail, because it never finds a field
with that name

Has anyone else seen this behaviour??

Subject: JDK version compatibility for the Mid-Tier

**

Does anyone have a copy of the compatibility matrix for both 6.3 and 7.0
for the versions of the JDK that can run on the mid-tier? Since BMC's
site is down I'm unable to verify that the updates our server team have
installed are compatible with the Mid-Tier.

They gave us Java 6 (1.6.0 I believe), which seems to be incompatible
with Remedy, and when I downgraded to 1.5.11, it also appears to be
incompatible. They really want to run version 6 since it's the current
one, but I know Remedy tends to be a few versions behind on the JRE.

Thanks,

We are having a problem with our MID-Tier. It looks like it will start
working, because you can login but then when your page comes up you get a

states that wants you to use any patch above 1.4.2.13.

So, After all the importing is done, update nextID in the arschema table

The T table latest request id and H table's request ID should be same.

If you take care of all the above, the import is successful.

1. Application licenses (version 7 applications only) should report

2. Application licenses (version 7 applications only) should be reported

Run the driver-program against your server to see for yourself. The
driver-commands to use is (init, log and glu).

3. The last access time (for each application) should be reported through
the API. This value is not set, at least for the normal Write-license. The
value is NOT printed by the driver program by default. You need to
recompile the driver program with the following added to the end of the
function PrintARUserLicenseStruct() print.c in order for you to check
this:
PrintARTimestamp("Last access:", value->lastAccess);

Note that for a user to "grab" his/her Floating Application License, you
need to open and do something (i.e. search) in one of the forms tagged for
the specific application.

Also note that application versions prior to 7.x does not make use of the
built in license functionality, so they will never report anything to the
user-log or through the API.

Please let me know if you have any other input on this topic!

Oh, that is new.. I do not see that.. but It might be part of my issue.. I

Patrick,
What permissions do not migrate? I found that the 6.3 install adds it's

Check if you have 2 Administrator records and delete the 2nd one.

Here is what I think your problem is ..
#1 the install script Does not use the Supplied Variable for JAVA path.
Fix: modify the .emaild.sh script so it knows where the JAVA path is.
#2 the install script does not use the Supplied Variable for Installation
path.
Fix: modify the .emaild.sh script again so it know where it installed
itself.
#3 the install script does not use the supplied Application Password.
Fix: Go to the Admintool (you will need to do this) and put in the
application password in the server.
The server did not use the variable and put it in the ar.conffile.
Once that is accomplished, open the ar.conf and copy the password
into the EmailDaemon.properties file.
 Under the option:
com.remedy.arsys.emaildaemon.remedy.Authentication=
Plopp in the String, it will with VI Wrap and you will loose part
of it.. this is OK,
Just go to the end of the line, press a for append.. and copy
and paste the rest into the line.
 Escape.. Then delete the residual.
#5 ./emaild.sh stop
./emaild.sh start &

Voila.. as long as your AREmail config's are correct.. This works for me..

Have fun...

I am having TOTALLY different issue:::
Permissions from previous ARS 5.12 server will not migrate to the ARS 6.3P18 /
P20 / P21 at all.
I have a ticket, and they have been actively working this for more than a
week.. and it looks like I am not going to make the migration it at this
point..

Oh well..

Re: WebServices and LIKE qualifications

2007-03-08 Thread Stephen Earl

Carey,

What do you think is the functional difference between the following:
(They look like they would produce the same thing to me.)

> So in theory this would expand to:
>
> ('Account Name' LIKE "ACCOUNT NAME"+"%")
>
> Whch isn't really what I want, what I really want is:
>
> ('Account Name' LIKE "ACCOUNT NAME%")

To me also there appears to be no difference, however when the
webservice expands the query I get no entries in the database using
option1 and 7 if I use option 2... made no sense..

I have more testing to do tomorrow, in that I'm going to test inside
the user tool and not the webservice just to be sure I'm not going
bonkers ;-)

However, one option would be to set up the Web Service as this...
('Account Name' LIKE XPATH(/ROOT/Account_name))

Then tell the Web Service client to pass in a value for Account_name
that ends in a "%".
Also keep in mind that they could just as easily pass in this value
too "%ACCOUNT NAME" and not have the trailing "%" in that case.

Yes that's what I told them they should do and I just get back "oh
that's too much effort your webservice should hanndle this for us"

You might even opt for several operations that would allow the
WebServices client to choose if they want a LIKE with a forced
trailing "%", just a straight LIKE qualification, or maybe even the
old equals search as a third option.

Yup thought about this too, but until I can do the forced '%' in the
webservice definition these are not an option, I'm trying to be as
flexible as possible but it doesn't help when your 'customers' are
also being flexible...

Thanks for the suggestions so far though

Re: ARS 6.3 Patch 20: What all needs to be moved?

2007-03-08 Thread Thomas Bean
We had similar problems after applying Patch 20 to our Mid-Tier (Red Hat
Linux), after using the "file replace" method.
After reapplying the patch using the installer script, the missing library
errors did not occur. If you use this method to apply the patch to your
Mid-Tier, just make sure to select "other" when prompted for the Web Server
and JSP engine information by the installer script, so that this information
is not overwritten.

Greetings everyone,

We just applied Patch 20 to our ARS system. (HPUX-11 server,
Oracle 9.2 db, previously Patch 14). We followed the
directions for the substitution method, and copied the files
that they listed. But when we restarted the system we got
"/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't find path for shared library:
libicudatabmc.sl.32". So we moved "libicudatabmc.sl.32" over
to the "bin" folder, and it complained about another library.
So we moved all the "bmc" libraries over.

Now the system starts and seems to be working. But there are
dozens of libraries in the patch folders that we haven't moved
because the directions don't say to. Will Daylight Savings
Time calculate correctly without them, and why are they there
if they aren't needed?

I would like to create three fields (for a phone number). One would be
the Area Code, then Exchange then Extension. I would LOVE it if it
would automatically tab over to the next field, when they are finished
with the first one. So if the customer were to enter "717" in the first
field (area code), it would automatically tab over to the Exchange field
and so on

Is this possible?

The application license details are held on the User form on versions prior to
7 they are held in ITSM 7 on a new form CTM:People Permissions Groups. In both
cases by knowing the people logged in you could query the application licenses
that have been assigned to them and determine a number. The only license that
counts is the User license since it is what allows the User to write to the

Re: 7.0.1 midtier p1 applied; can't access config page

2007-03-08 Thread strauss
Keep in mind that you take a performance penalty on mid-tier if you use
the Tomcat servlet with IIS through the JK connector rather than the
Tomcat standalone configuration, where it uses its own web server;
Tomcat on IIS actually had worse performance than ServletExec on IIS
according to the BMC benchmarks. I have been installing Tomcat to not
use IIS, running on port 8080 while IIS retains port 80, but then all I
would have to do is configure the Tomcat web to answer on port 81 versus
8080 in your situation. In my case I am retaining IIS on port 80 (and
443 over SSL) to handle ARSPerl scripts and static content, while
mid-tier lives completely on Tomcat, which it shares with Remedy
Knowledge Management and on at least one machine, Crystal Report Server
XI. I still have to get a certificate on it (easy in IIS, unknown in
Tomcat) so I can move it to SSL.

Since you use an alias you can use the connector that Matt lists or if
Mid-Tier is the only webserver that uses that alias then you can set up
a re-direct in your IIS to redirect port 81 to port 8080 (based on your
alias)

Lisa,
I haven't tested it for a version or two, but you could use one of the
Tomcat Connectors. That will enable IIS to process the .jsp calls
directly rather than routing to port 8080.

Read here:

Good luck!

I had the same problem (I'm having the same problem). Our IIS port is
81 and our Tomcat port is 8080. Even though I selected IIS to be our
webserver, Tomcat seemed to have taken over as our webserver. It's not
a BIG problem, but the alias we use (which is embedded in every email,
filter, active link, etc, etc...) uses port 81, so we would have to
change all of this to port 8080.

Has anyone come across this problem and how do you force it to use IIS

We determined that the problem lay with a port conflict between Oracle

ARS 6.3 Patch 20: What all needs to be moved?

2007-03-08 Thread Dwayne Martin
Greetings everyone,

We just applied Patch 20 to our ARS system. (HPUX-11 server,
Oracle 9.2 db, previously Patch 14). We followed the
directions for the substitution method, and copied the files
that they listed. But when we restarted the system we got

So we moved all the "bmc" libraries over.

Now the system starts and seems to be working. But there are
dozens of libraries in the patch folders that we haven't moved
because the directions don't say to. Will Daylight Savings
Time calculate correctly without them, and why are they there
if they aren't needed?

Is this a bug??

2007-03-08 Thread Shafqat Ayaz
Hi All
Seen some curious behaviour in the Admin Tool on V7.0.01
If I create a field and name it for example Amount Spent($)
If I create workflow using this field, especially Push Fields the admin tool
automatically converts the field name to $Amount Spent($$)$ !!
even if I change the name of the field to Amount Spent($), as soon as I save
it, the name changes, thus all actions fail, because it never finds a field
with that name
Has anyone else seen this behaviour??

ARS Server and Admin Tool 7.0.01 Patch 1
  SQL 2005
Windows NT 5.2 ( as reported by the Admin Tool)

  Kind Regards

Hmm, it looks like I don't have a arutiljni63.so file. Is this file
supposed to be in the api\lib directory?

Make sure the LD_LIBRARY_PATH var in the emaild.sh script contains the
directory where arutiljni63.so is located; typically
/path/to/ars/api/lib, or the email directory itself.

I have found many issues with both Patch 20 and 21 -- I believe the
installer is not accepting the Values given it.. I have argued the point..
but no one seems to be listening.. which is fine.. They are on their own
(BMC). With that said..
The server did not use the variable and put it in the
ar.conffile.

Once that is accomplished, open the ar.conf and copy the password
into the EmailDaemon.properties file.
Under the option:
com.remedy.arsys.emaildaemon.remedy.Authentication=
Plopp in the String, it will with VI Wrap and you will loose part
of it.. this is OK,
Just go to the end of the line, press a for append.. and copy and
paste the rest into the line.
Escape.. Then delete the residual.
#5 ./emaild.sh stop
./emaild.sh start &

Voila.. as long as your AREmail config's are correct.. This works for me..

Have fun...

I am having TOTALLY different issue:::
Permissions from previous ARS 5.12 server will not migrate to the ARS
6.3P18 / P20 / P21 at all.
I have a ticket, and they have been actively working this for more than a
week.. and it looks like I am not going to make the migration it at this
point..

Oh well..

Re: WebServices and LIKE qualifications

2007-03-08 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Stephen,

What do you think is the functional difference between the following:
(They look like they would produce the same thing to me.)

So in theory this would expand to:

('Account Name' LIKE "ACCOUNT NAME"+"%")

Whch isn't really what I want, what I really want is:

('Account Name' LIKE "ACCOUNT NAME%")

However, one option would be to set up the Web Service as this...
('Account Name' LIKE XPATH(/ROOT/Account_name))

Then tell the Web Service client to pass in a value for Account_name
that ends in a "%".
Also keep in mind that they could just as easily pass in this value
too "%ACCOUNT NAME" and not have the trailing "%" in that case.

You might even opt for several operations that would allow the
WebServices client to choose if they want a LIKE with a forced
trailing "%", just a straight LIKE qualification, or maybe even the
old equals search as a third option.

Hi All,

I'm sure I've missed something really simple but I'm trying to get the
following scenario to work but for the life of me I can't, so here
goes:

I have a webservice which is querying an underlying form based on data
being provided by the WS client, the webservice is configured with the
following qualification:

('Account Name' = XPATH(/ROOT/Account_name))

This quite rightly only allows an '=' match, so we thought OK, let's
make it a like statement with the following qualification:

('Account Name' LIKE XPATH(/ROOT/Account_name)+"%")

So in theory this would expand to:

('Account Name' LIKE "ACCOUNT NAME"+"%")

Whch isn't really what I want, what I really want is:

('Account Name' LIKE "ACCOUNT NAME%")

How in a WebService qualification could I achieve this?

I know my easiest option is for me to specify to the consumer that
they should send their request with the '%' suffix in the request and
that would take care of it for me, but they aren't very receptive to
that idea...

Any thoughts?

Thanks muchly as always

Stephen.

I take it you are talking Unix or Linux. Yes the Mid-Tier can be
installed non-root. If you are running on a web server at the normal

web server, but there is no problem doing the install as non-root.

We run Mid-Tier on Solaris Apache/Tomcat (Apache on port 80, Tomcat on
8080). To restart Apache (after adding the Mod-jk connector) we have
sudo rights. Since Tomcat is on port 8080 we can restart it with our
normal unix login.

Re: Email Engine Patch 21/java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no arutiljni63 in java.lib

2007-03-08 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
As an FYI... None of the 6.3 email installers nor flashboards installers
ever wrote the emaild.sh and server.sh startup scripts correctly. I
have always had to do what Patrick lists with one slight change...
Instead of doing a stop in #5 I kill the process and the armonitor
binary automatically restarts it.

Patrick,
What permissions do not migrate? I found that the 6.3 install adds it's
own Administrator record into the Groups form and that screws things up.
Check if you have 2 Administrator records and delete the 2nd one.

I have found many issues with both Patch 20 and 21 -- I believe the
installer is not accepting the Values given it.. I have argued the
point.. but no one seems to be listening.. which is fine.. They are on
their own (BMC). With that said..
Here is what I think your problem is ..
#1 the install script Does not use the Supplied Variable for JAVA path.
Fix: modify the .emaild.sh script so it knows where the JAVA path is.
#2 the install script does not use the Supplied Variable for
Installation path.
Fix: modify the .emaild.sh script again so it know where it installed
itself.
#3 the install script does not use the supplied Application Password.
Fix: Go to the Admintool (you will need to do this) and put in the
application password in the server.
The server did not use the variable and put it in the ar.conf
file.
Once that is accomplished, open the ar.conf and copy the
password into the EmailDaemon.properties file.
 Under the option:
com.remedy.arsys.emaildaemon.remedy.Authentication=
Plopp in the String, it will with VI Wrap and you will loose
part of it.. this is OK,
Just go to the end of the line, press a for append.. and copy
and paste the rest into the line.
 Escape.. Then delete the residual.
#5 ./emaild.sh stop
./emaild.sh start &

Voila.. as long as your AREmail config's are correct.. This works for
me..

Have fun...

I am having TOTALLY different issue:::
Permissions from previous ARS 5.12 server will not migrate to the ARS
6.3 P18 / P20 / P21 at all.
I have a ticket, and they have been actively working this for more than
a week.. and it looks like I am not going to make the migration it at
this point..

Oh well..

Re: 7.0.1 midtier p1 applied; can't access config page

2007-03-08 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Since you use an alias you can use the connector that Matt lists or if
Mid-Tier is the only webserver that uses that alias then you can set up
a re-direct in your IIS to redirect port 81 to port 8080 (based on your
alias)

Lisa,
I haven't tested it for a version or two, but you could use one of the
Tomcat Connectors. That will enable IIS to process the .jsp calls
directly rather than routing to port 8080.

Read here:
http://tomcat.apache.org/connectors-doc/webserver_howto/iis.html

Has anyone come across this problem and how do you force it to use IIS
as your webserver?

Thanks for the response.

We determined that the problem lay with a port conflict between Oracle

Re: Date Field default value

2007-03-08 Thread Chris Williams
Shibu,
This is taken from the Admin Tool help file under the keywords section:

"Note: The $DATE$ keyword is not expanded when default values are set. This
allows
the value to be set to the date the form is submitted rather than the date the
form
is opened. Consequently, the literal keyword is displayed in the field before
the
request is submitted."

Having the keyword not expand should make no difference to the way your system
operates. It's not necessarily pretty for users, but if that's your only
concern,
then use a Set Fields Active Link on Window Loaded to set the field to the
value of
$DATE$, which should force the keyword to expand to the current date.

HTH
Chris.

WebServices and LIKE qualifications

2007-03-08 Thread Stephen Earl

Stephen.

SQL Server 2005 CLR and ARS API

2007-03-08 Thread Heider, Stephen
List,

I am attempting to create a stored procedure written in .Net that uses
the ARS .Net API. Everything works as expected except when adding the
ARS API part.

I am not sure if this is even possible because it seems that you can
only have one .dll file inside a SQL Assembly, and the BMC.ARSystem.dll
and BMC.arnettoc.dll files are required.

Running this command (after adding a reference to the ARS .Net API)...

ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] FROM 'D:\ClassLibrary8.dll'

...produces this error:

ALTER ASSEMBLY for assembly 'ClassLibrary8' failed because assembly
'bmc.arnettoc' is malformed or not a pure .NET assembly.
Unverifiable PE Header/native stub.

After I then add these files (no errors)...

ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] ADD FILE FROM 'D:\BMC.arnettoc.dll' AS
N'BMC.arnettoc.dll'
ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] ADD FILE FROM 'D:\BMC.ARSystem.dll' AS
N'BMC.ARSystem.dll'

...and then run this command:

ALTER ASSEMBLY [Classlibrary8] FROM 'D:\ClassLibrary8.dll'

...produces this error:

ALTER ASSEMBLY failed because assembly 'Classlibrary8' has more then one
file associated with it. Use ALTER ASSEMBLY DROP FILE to remove extra
files.

Has anyone been able to get this to work with any ARS API version (C,
Java, .Net)? It would be great if this could work - there are a lot of
cool things that can be done using .Net in stored procedures and
functions.

More SLM 7.0.2 woes... SID vs. SERVICE_NAME

2007-03-08 Thread Tony Worthington
Ok... So we've moved to our new 10gR2 RAC cluster, and I'm starting the
re-install process all over again.

Last SLM install I did was into a non-RAC system and I had no issues
(other than the misleading installshield db labels in <7.0.2)

Here's the ticket I submitted to Remedy -- no response yet... Wondering if
anyone else has attempted the collector portion install into a RAC system.

-

The SLM installer uses a jdbc connection to the backend Oracle database.
The jdbc connect string is based on fields filled in on the installshield.

Here is an example of the string the installer uses:
jdbc:oracle:thin:@blahlblah.com:1521:OQ090062 -- That would translate to
::

In new (10gr2/RAC) environments SID is no longer used for client
connections; it has been replaced with SERVICE_NAME. Because of this SID
limitation, we receive the following error from Oracle when using the SLM
installer: ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in
connect descriptor

According to MetaLink the correct JDBC connect string using service name
should appear as such:

jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTO
=TCP)(HOST=host)(PORT=521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=dpf2p)))

Is there any way to force the installer to use SERVICE_NAME instead of
SID?

Thoughts?

Re: "Display No Match Error"

2007-03-08 Thread Carey Matthew Black

Re: Diary fields issues

2007-03-08 Thread Dave Barber

Its via remedy workflow, had a filter that was sending a mail to a list of
recipients, but it was incorrectly formatting the diary field.

Our support company suggested we patch our server (5.1.1, patch 1313), to
patch 1484 to resolve the issue, but for the moment, its awkward to get
sufficient system downtime due to other server upgrades that are going on.

We've found a solution though - instead of mailing to the recipients with
their full smtp address as pulled from the person form, we're populating the
addresses with their user-id, and it pulls through everything perfectly, my
colleague reckons that the process works differently that manner.

But its definitely a bug, hopefully fixed in the later releases, but I don't
remember anything like that at my prior employers (who were running 5.1.1,
unpatched ).

All,

I've got an issue with e-mailing a diary field, its incorrectly formatting
the data.

Instead of sensibly listing the diary field entries as they're displayed
in the user tool :

06/03/2007 14:58:38 user name

text

06/03/2007 15:02:21 user name

Its displaying the data as such :

Which is a tad irritating.

Any suggestions?

Re: 'Display No Match Error'

2007-03-08 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi Naveen,

RRR has a free tool called rrrDefSearch that may be able to help you.

The following search may find what you are looking for:

rrrDefSearch -s test.def
  -m "set-field\s*:\s0\\.*\\1\\\d\\\s*$"

The problem with the pattern is that it will also find CURRENT TRANSACTION
operations. The following tries to eliminate that.

rrrDefSearch -s test.def
  -m "set-field\s*:[EMAIL PROTECTED]@].*\\1\\\d\\\s*$"

Anfortunately this may also remove any set-fields that is to big to fit
into a single row in the def-file. Maybe the following will do the trick:

rrrDefSearch -s test.def
  -m "set-field\s*:[EMAIL PROTECTED]@].*\\1\\\d\\\s*$"
  -m "set-field\s*:\s0\\(?!.*@).*\\1\\\d\\\s*$"

This could potentially match a couple of
multi-line-current-transaction-filters, and very rarely miss a
no-match-error, but it should get you most of what you want...

You can add the switch -t target.def to create a new def-file including
only the matched rows.

Download of rrrDefSearch is found at:
https://www.rrr.se/cgi/tools/main#rrrDefSearch

Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://www.rrr.se/sv/

I've got a case with BMC Support, too.

We're running HelpDesk 6.0 on ARS 7.0.1 on Windows machines. When my
users upgraded their User Tools to 7.0.1 patch 1, When they save a
'New' case, and a new, blank HD Case window opens, the new window has
copied the last entry from the worklog of the previous case. They
can't erase it, either. They can highlight it, and press delete and it
appears to go away, but when they open it again, it's still there. It
doesn't appear to stay in the new case once it's saved, though.

I have one HD analyst who hasn't upgraded from 7.0.0 patch 2, and this
isn't happening to him.

Any ideas?

Ron,

We have experienced this problem as well. Our site is purely custom
build and still running on a 6.0.1 server. Our users who installed the
7.0.1 WUT (and also those who installed patch 1) have found that, upon
submitting a ticket, the contents of the diary field (equivalent to your
worklog) stays there in the diary field. Deleting it and writing over
appears to not work as if they open up the diary field the old diary
contents are still there. The new contents are, however, saved with the
new ticket. This sound exactly the same as if happening on your site.

I would suggest two courses of action:

  1. Submit a ticket to BMC (or your partner) and cross reference it
 with ticket ISS03078412.
  2. Revert to the 7.0.0 User Tool (any patch level will do) and this
 particular problem will cease.

We are currently in the process of upgrading our system to 7.0.1 and I
have now experienced this problem with the development server and the
7.0.1 User tool. Needless to say both BMC and our partner are currently
scratching their heads over this one and are claiming to not to be able
to replicate this.

Hope this all helps,

Re: Import CSV file in Remedy

2007-03-08 Thread Peter Romain
I would create a new import form in Remedy and import the csv files into
this form.

Filters on merge would then be written to push the data to the correct
classes.

Harmil writes:

All,

We need to import some CSV files in to Remedy Database (SQLServer) and it will be a one time dump of data so we don't concern about the performance or any other issues. We have different columns on CSV file goes to different BMC CMDB 1.1 classes in remedy so how do i create a workflow which takes each CSV file's column and import those attributes in Remedy form(Table). Can some one tell me the best way to handle this.I think i need some kind of DB script and step details to create this work flow?

  Environment:

  CM DB 1.1

  ARS 6.x
  Windows NT
  IT SM 6.x

  Appreciated your quick response.

  Thanks,

  Harmil
