Subject: Values are not getting pushed in CMDB forms

Hi All,

I have created some customised fields on CMDB form(BMC.CORE:BMC_Database).I
am pushing the values of some customised fields from a regular form to this
CMDB form through a filter. When i take a work log, i can see the filter is
pushing the value in CMDB form. But when i check the CMDB form, the values are
not getting updated in CMDB for the corresponding CI.

Also when i check SQL log, i can see that these values are pushing as NULL
in CMDB.

Do I need to map this customised fields on CMDB form?

Please help.

Regards,
Sachin

It sounds like the AL is getting the If Multiple Requests Match

change to the Use First Matching option.

$Field$ is tied to a search menu and has a predetermined set of values
to pull from.

When my AL fires, instead of grabbing the value that's currently in
$Field$, it pulls up the menu options for the $Field$.

Example:

Lets say that $Field$ is set the value of 1 on the current form. When
the AL fires, instead of grabbing the value 1 it pulls up the menu for
$Field$, something like 1, 2, 3, 4 for me to chose. If I chose one of
the options, it does go ahead and place that value in the field, but I
need it to grab the value already in the $Field$ field.

Look in your filter log for the actual problem. It appears that another
filter is firing (due to the record change) and is leaving a required
field NULL (Error # 326). If you had the filter log turned on when the
escalation fired you can look in it for TID: 000348 to see what
filters fired when the escalation ran. If not then turn it on and check
it for the TID in that escalation log.

Custom Classes in the CMDB changing the ClassID

2008-10-15 Thread Sarah Evans
Hi

I've noticed that when creating new custom classes in the CMDB, that the
ClassID is set to be a GUID, has anyone changed this? This will be an issue for
us as the class ID is shown in the CI viewer.

I have tried changing the ClassId in the OBJSTR:class form but a second entry
is created in the Schema Name form with this new class id. Or should I be
changing the Class ID in the Schema Names form first. Even though all the
documentation says not to change the data in the OBJSTR forms.

Thanks

Please add www.bmc.com and *.bmc.com to your trusted sites. Also, clear the

Once logged in, try to subscribe again and you should have access.

That doesn't work of course. I guess deleting arf and arv files can't be far

Re: date format validation

2008-10-15 Thread Shellman, David
I think you will find that verifying date formats will be tough. For us
it is impossible as folks use long and short formats as well as MM/DD/YY
and DD/MM/YY formats. Some use full 4 digits for year and some use the
shortened format.

The only validation we do is that the date is within a valid range for
what ever the date field is used for.

I do not have access to one of the servers. Someone at a different site was
going to create the mappings.

Will this cause an issue if I apply my DSO license and there are no mappings,
and I cannot see the remote server? Basically, I just want to stage it up so I
can turn on DSO at a later time. I'm trying to take advantage of a scheduled

Telecom circuits in CMDB

2008-10-15 Thread Drake,Dave
Hi all, just looking for an opinion out there. We're going to be adding
telecom circuits (Frame Relays, etc) to our CMDB. If you've done the same,
what data class did you find that fit those most appropriately? Thanks!

OT - Wednesday humour

2008-10-15 Thread Drake,Dave
Couldn't wait for Friday :-)

If you can read this whole story without laughing, then there's no
hope for you. I was crying by the end. This is an actual account as relayed
to paramedics at a chili cook-off in Texas .

Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the
first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better. For
those of you who have lived in Texas , you know how true this is.
They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes
around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San Antonio City
Park . Judge #3 was an inexperienced Chili taster named Frank, who was
visiting from Springfield , IL .

Frank: 'Recently, I was honored to be selected as a judge at a chili
cook-off. The original person called in sick at the last moment and I
happened to be standing there at the judge's table, asking for
directions to the Coors Light truck, when the call came in. I was
assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili
wouldn't be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free beer
during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge 3.'

Here are the scorecard notes from the event:

CHILI # 1 - MIKE'S MANIAC MONSTER CHILI
Judge # 1 -- A little too heavy on the tomato. Amusing kick..
Judge # 2 -- Nice, smooth tomato flavor. Very mild.
Judge # 3 (Frank) -- Holy crap, what the hell is this stuff? You could
remove dried paint from your driveway. Took me two beers to put
the flames out. I hope that's the worst one. These Texans are crazy.

CHILI # 2 - AUSTIN'S AFTERBURNER CHILI
Judge # 1 -- Smoky, with a hint of pork. Slight jalapeno tang.
Judge # 2 -- Exciting BBQ flavor, needs more peppers to be taken
seriously.
Judge # 3 -- Keep this out of the reach of children. I'm not sure what
I'm supposed to taste besides pain. I had to wave off two people
who wanted to give me the Heimlich maneuver. They had to rush in
more beer when they saw the look on my face.

CHILI # 3 - FRED'S FAMOUS BURN DOWN THE BARN CHILI
Judge # 1 -- Excellent firehouse chili. Great kick.
Judge # 2 -- A bit salty, good use of peppers.
Judge # 3 -- Call the EPA. I've located a uranium spill. My nose
feels like I have been snorting Drano. Everyone knows the routine by
now. Get me more beer before I ignite. Barmaid pounded me on the back,
now my backbone is in the front part of my chest. I'm getting sh*t-faced from
all of the beer.

CHILI # 4 - BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC
Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.
Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish
or other mild foods, not much of a chili..
Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was
unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer
maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. woman
is starting to look HOT ... just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is
chili an aphrodisiac?

CHILI # 5 - LISA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER
Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground,
adding considerable kick. Very impressive.
Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato.
Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.
Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead
and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me
needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that
her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from
bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm
burning
my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to stop
screaming.
Screw them..

CHILI # 6 - VERA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY
Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of
spices and peppers.
Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions,
garlic. Superb.
Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with
gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I'm worried
it
will eat through the chair. No one seems inclined to stand behind me
except that Sally. Can't feel my lips anymore. I need to wipe my butt
with a snow cone.

CHILI # 7 - SUSAN'S SCREAMING SENSATION CHILI
Judge # 1 -- A mediocre chili with too much reliance on canned
peppers.
Judge # 2 -- Ho hum, tastes as if the chef lite rally threw in a can of
chili peppers at the last moment. **I should take note that I am
worried about judge number 3. He appears to be in a bit of distress
as he is cursing uncontrollably.
Judge # 3 -- You could put a grenade in my mouth, pull the pin, and
I wouldn't feel a thing. I've lost sight in one eye, and the world sounds
like it is made of rushing water. My shirt is covered with chili, which
slid unnoticed out of my mouth. My pants are full of lava to match
my shirt. At least

Re: date format validation

2008-10-15 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Since the system throws the error on save you can try something like:

Set an integer field equal to the date field. If you get a number of 0
then either they entered January 1 1970 at Midnight (unlikely) or it is
not a valild date.

You could do this on Lose focus of the date field or some other action
before the save.

Thanks Scott,

I do see you have received it in Times New Roman.

I think I can safely say this problem is on Lotus Notes as the only 2
complaints I got were both from Lotus Notes users, and I did see one of my
customer receive emails on Lotus Notes with that wierd font too.

I'll see if I can find out what that setting is on Lotus Notes that supresses
the changing of fonts of received emails.

Meanwhile I'll set my yahoo client to send as text instead of rich text font
Times new roman.. I did go to my mail options and didn't see what Janie tried
to point out to change it to Plain Text so I must be overlooking something. I
do notice the Plain Text option besides the Subject field though, but that
changes it just for the current email.

Values are not getting pushed in CMDB forms

2008-10-15 Thread nsachin

Regards,
Sachin

Can someone send an example of a survey URL that is sent out from the service

Thanks in advance.

Receiving ARERR 1904 when Attempting to Run Reports

2008-10-15 Thread Robert Dalton
Environment is Unix / Oracle / ARS 7.01 / ITSM 7.03

A user attempts to run a report via the client software and receives this
error: An error occurred while generating the Crystal report: 0x80004003 -
Invalid pointer (ARERR 1904).

The error messages document only states that it is a Crytal error and to
consult the Crystal documentation.

Other people can run reports just fine. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the
Remedy ODBC driver, and the Remedy client software is this did not resolve the
problem. I've looked at the person's profile and everything seems fine. I
also had the user type in the server name and port number on the

Mid-Tier Web Page is coming up blank

2008-10-15 Thread Matthew Perrault
All,
We recently installed Mid-Tier 7.1 Patch 3 on a box in Australia.
I can log into the configuration page and that comes up fine.
Yet when I try and go to an actual form, I get the little animated Loading...
gif, then it says downloading item 10 of 16 (in the lower left corner of IE),
it counts down to 1 of 16 then finishes.
Then in the lower left corner it says Done. Yet the Web Page is blank. Nothing
there, no errors, just a blank white web page.
The strange thing is we have this same Mid-Tier version installed on other
servers and all of them seem to work fine.

The odd things about this server are with IIS.
First it doesn't have the standard defaultWebSite it has something else.
But that shouldn't matter as I've installed it under other Web Sites in IIS and
gotten it to work.
The other thing is, this has a specific IP specified in the Web Site
identification.
Yet I tried removing that and now luck either.

At this point I don't know where else to look to try and figure out why this
web page won't come up.

Any thoughts or suggestions on where to go from here with this issue would be

If you can read this whole story without laughing, then there's no

hope for you. I was crying by the end. This is an actual account as
 relayed

to paramedics at a chili cook-off in Texas .

Note: Please take time to read this slowly. If you pay attention to the

first two judges, the reaction of the third judge is even better. For

those of you who have lived in Texas , you know how true this is.

They actually have a Chili Cook-off about the time Halloween comes

around. It takes up a major portion of a parking lot at the San Antonio
 City

I was

assured by the other two judges (Native Texans) that the chili

wouldn't be all that spicy; and, besides, they told me I could have free
 beer

during the tasting, so I accepted and became Judge 3.'

I'm getting sh*t-faced
 from

 all of the beer.

 CHILI # 4 - BUBBA'S BLACK MAGIC

Judge # 1 -- Black bean chili with almost no spice. Disappointing.

Judge # 2 -- Hint of lime in the black beans. Good side dish for fish

or other mild foods, not much of a chili..

Judge # 3 -- I felt something scraping across my tongue, but was

unable to taste it. Is it possible to burn out taste buds? Sally, the beer

maid, was standing behind me with fresh refills. This 300 lb. woman

is starting to look HOT ... just like this nuclear waste I'm eating! Is

 chili an aphrodisiac?

 CHILI # 5 - LISA'S LEGAL LIP REMOVER

Judge # 1 -- Meaty, strong chili. Cayenne peppers freshly ground,

 adding considerable kick. Very impressive.

Judge # 2 -- Chili using shredded beef, could use more tomato.

Must admit the cayenne peppers make a strong statement.

Judge # 3 -- My ears are ringing, sweat is pouring off my forehead

and I can no longer focus my eyes. I farted, and four people behind me

needed paramedics. The contestant seemed offended when I told her that

her chili had given me brain damage. Sally saved my tongue from

bleeding by pouring beer directly on it from the pitcher. I wonder if I'm
 burning

my lips off. It really ticks me off that the other judges asked me to stop
 screaming.

 Screw them..

 CHILI # 6 - VERA'S VERY VEGETARIAN VARIETY

Judge # 1 -- Thin yet bold vegetarian variety chili. Good balance of

 spices and peppers.

Judge # 2 -- The best yet. Aggressive use of peppers, onions,

 garlic. Superb.

Judge # 3 -- My intestines are now a straight pipe filled with

gaseous, sulfuric flames. I crapped on myself when I farted, and I'm
 worried it

will eat through the chair.

Re: Custom Classes in the CMDB changing the ClassID

2008-10-15 Thread Peter Romain
I've always created new classes via the cmdbdriver. This way you can set
the classid to whatever you want.

I remember once looking at the workflow on the console and finding that it
wouldn't take much to set the classid to an upper case version of the
class name (ie mimicking the way the otb classes are set).

Could you delete your classes and use one of these methods to recreate them?

Cheers

Peter

 Hi

I've noticed that when creating new custom classes in the CMDB, that the
ClassID is set to be a GUID, has anyone changed this? This will be an
issue for us as the class ID is shown in the CI viewer.

I have tried changing the ClassId in the OBJSTR:class form but a second
entry is created in the Schema Name form with this new class id. Or should
I be changing the Class ID in the Schema Names form first. Even though all
the documentation says not to change the data in the OBJSTR forms.

 Thanks

My opinion: don't try to fit it in the CMDB data model, there are no
classes that are anywhere near what you're looking for. Just create
your own classes.
In my experience, people tend to fit in CI's in the strangest classes
because they are afraid to create their own. The thing is, the CMDB
data model does not cater for everything and it /does not need to/,
because you can easily create your own classes if you have the need.

I've been getting similar caught exception errors too. BMC/Remedy Tech
Support advised the following:

Please add www.bmc.com and *.bmc.com to your trusted sites. Also, clear the
cookies and history, then close the browser and open a new browser and login.
Once logged in, try to subscribe again and you should have access.

That doesn't work of course. I guess deleting arf and arv files can't be far

From what I've seen it appears to match pretty much OOB+Extension pack.

the Tools-Options-Advanced Tab under reporting server and this did not
 resolve the problem either.

Has anyone else seen this error before.

 Thanks,

Re: Mid-Tier Web Page is coming up blank

2008-10-15 Thread Frank Caruso
Is there source code behind the page? Or is there nothing coming back in teh
for of JScript and HTML tags?

I had this happen the other night. Upgraded MT, went to config page and all
was well. Then tried opening the Home page and got a blank screen, but
there was source code. After playing around for a few minutes I decided to
close all my browsers and try again. The next time it worked and the home
page came up.

 All,

We recently installed Mid-Tier 7.1 Patch 3 on a box in Australia .

I can log into the configuration page and that comes up fine.

Yet when I try and go to an actual form, I get the little animated
Loading… gif, then it says downloading item 10 of 16 (in the lower left
corner of IE), it counts down to 1 of 16 then finishes.

Then in the lower left corner it says Done. Yet the Web Page is blank.
Nothing there, no errors, just a blank white web page.

The strange thing is we have this same Mid-Tier version installed on other
servers and all of them seem to work fine.

The odd things about this server are with IIS.

First it doesn't have the standard defaultWebSite it has something else.

But that shouldn't matter as I've installed it under other Web Sites in IIS
 and gotten it to work.

The other thing is, this has a specific IP specified in the Web Site
 identification.

Yet I tried removing that and now luck either.

At this point I don't know where else to look to try and figure out why
this web page won't come up.

Joe,
We tried that...a couple dozen times...no luck there :)

Didn't see anything in the Mid-Tier Logs, but I'm going through the IIS logs

Something did catch my eye, and I'm wondering if it's the same problem we had
with our Argentina server with the timezone causing the page to loop, yet
because of the distance and the lag, you don't physically see it.

Thanks,

Yes there is source code behind the page.
I copied it and dropped it into a html file on my local machine and it still
showed up blank.
I did go through the net and look for something similar to this and I did find
something similar from back in 2005 and it was with 6.3 and it was the same
thing.
The lady said that it had to do with the extensions not being listed or blocked
in IIS.
Well I did check and correct that in IIS, yet the page still came up blank.

With regards to the timezone, I changed my client pc timezone to GMT +10
Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney
And when I hit the web page, this is what it is showing as the time zone:
usertimezone=Antarctica%2FDumontDUrville
For some odd reason, that just doesn't look correct

Re: Best Practice for Archiving

2008-10-15 Thread Joe DeSouza
I am not sure you may find Best Practices out there for such a thing. Its more
a matter of business requirement than a best practice.. Consider the following
questions that come to my mind:

What does your business need? When would a ticket be deemed to fit as an
archive?

What are the conditions for archiving a ticket?
Age of the ticket?
The time since the ticket was last retrieved (I wish ARS had a way to mark this
without actually modifying a tickets Last Modified Date without running a
Direct SQL)?
The time since the ticket was actually modified?
The time since the ticket has been in a particular status - say Closed?
Maybe skip archiving tickets that had been marked as Closed by the AR_ESCALATOR
user as there may be a possible need for reopening them??

These are just examples..

To support these needs you may need to build hidden data fields to contain
information that could drive your qualifications to archive a ticket. For eg
your qualification could be archive any ticket that hasn't been modified for
the past 4 months AND have a Closed Status..

It really boils down to what you need so I would start looking there rather
than looking for some industry standard Best Practice for archiving business
information..

Cheers

Joe

Couldn't wait for Friday :)

I crapped on myself when I farted, and I'm worried it

will eat through the chair.

**I should take note

Pricing model changed in July 08?

2008-10-15 Thread Ivan Runions
I've just had a sales guy tell me that BMC/Remedy came up with a new
pricing model that can be used instead of the existing model (ie. an
either/or situation).

He states that the entire ITSM Suite of applications can be purchased
for $13,000 but that the User licenses are then more expensive to offset
the loss of revenue. User licenses can then be purchased, as today, one
application at a time, or one super-license covering all applications.

Additionally, annual service contracts can then be calculated on
'actual price paid' rather than on 'current list price'. (again: your
choice as to which model is better for you).

I have not heard of this before, and if this is true, can someone
a) point me to some documentation on this.
b) comment on whether this model saved you any money (it seems to me
that only a very low number of User licenses could make this new model
more affordable).

What's a bug anyway? (Kind of a rant...)

2008-10-15 Thread William Rentfrow
I'm torn whether or not to report some things to BMC as bugs.

For example, in IM 7.x the form HPD:Search-Worklog is an OOB join form
that is used in the Advanced Search functionality from the Incident
Nav Bar (when you are in an actual Incident). This allows you to search
a join form of Work Log entries + Incident Info.

Here's the problem - if you are on the Mid-tier and do a search and then
select multiple results list items and choose the Report button you
get dumped to the standard (ad hoc) report console for the web. The
field selection list in there shows all fields from the Join form
(including those not displayed in any of the views).

That gives us multiple entries for fields like Submitter, Submit Date,
etc etc etc (all the usual suspects).

Knowing how Remedy works I'd expect this - but I still would call it a
bug. It's definitnly an interface design error. However, if I reported
every instance of this in the application I suspect it would run in to
the hundreds of occurrences.

On the other hand I'm pretty much obligated to report it as a bug since
I am advocating for my customer and this makes the report interface
unusable. They do not know which field to use in the report. Since
they are interested on reporting on all Work Log entries for a
particular problem, including the submitter and the Work Log Submit Date
they legitimately can not tell which is which. And since they only have
web access they can't exactly go check other than through trial and
error.

What do YOU do with this sort of problem?

Bill,

It needs to be reported, even if it just to let the customer know you are
doing the best you can.

If BMC gets enough reports (i.e. Bugs) on the same issue maybe they will
look into a fix for some future release (like 9 or 10).

That gives us multiple entries for fields like Submitter, Submit Date, etc

Knowing how Remedy works I'd expect this - but I still would call it a

On the other hand I'm pretty much obligated to report it as a bug since I

They do not know which field to use in the report. Since they are
interested on reporting on all Work Log entries for a particular problem,
including the submitter and the Work Log Submit Date they legitimately can
not tell which is which. And since they only have web access they can't
exactly go check other than through trial and error.

What do YOU do with this sort of problem?

Re: What's a bug anyway? (Kind of a rant...)

2008-10-15 Thread Wheeler, Dylan
I could think of a few instances where you would want to have all those
fields though. You want to see who submitted a incident as well as who
submitted the worklog. When the incident was created in the same report
as when the worklog entry was submitted. Granted, it could be presented
in a lot better fashion :)

Why not create a defined report for them to run? I know it doesn't fix
the problem but it's a workaround for now.

As to your problem, like you said, you are the advocate for your client.
I would report it even though you know they'll come back with either
Works as designed or a bug report number that probably wont get fixed
for 5 years since it's not a critical bug. You are not a BMC employee so
it's not on you to get it fixed. Once you report it and get the feedback
to give to your client your role is fulfilled.

Alternatively, you could compile a list of the problems and present them
to your client. I've worked for clients that were down to earth and as
long as you have a workaround that lets them do what they need to do
they don't sweat the small stuff. Anything that doesn't have a
workaround and that they don't blow off as not effecting their job you
report.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

Creating subfile records from list on submit

2008-10-15 Thread Dwayne Martin
Dear List,

I have a main form and a subfile form. The subfile has two (actually more, but
this is just for illustration) fields, a Parent ID field that contains the
Entry ID of the main form, and an Info field. On submission of the main form,
I use a filter to retrieve a list from a third form, then process that list to
create subfile entries. Eg, it would retrieve a list like:

abcde
hijkl
mnopq

Then if the main form Request ID is 87 it should produce subfile entries of:

Parent ID: 87
Info: abdde

Parent ID: 87
Info: hijkl

Parent ID: 87
Info: mnopq.

So, on submission of the main form, filters process the list, and move each
entry on the list into a temp field and do a Push Field to create the subfile
record.

Here’s the problem. Push Fields get deferred to phase 2, and by that time the
temp field is overwritten so no subfile records get created. If I add `! to
the end if the filter name, the filter runs in phase 1, but the main form Entry
ID hasn’t been created yet.

The ideal would be to run the workflow in an Active Link “After Submit,” but
there are times when the main form itself is created via Push Field action, so
the Active Links won’t run.

Any suggestions?

You can use the group by in the standard remedy report for the fields
that are from the incident and include the worklog fields in the

Re: Creating subfile records from list on submit

2008-10-15 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
We put a Display Only Processing ID field on the 3rd form and have the
main form push to the 3rd form (Standard Phase 2 action). All workflow
on the 3rd form takes into account if Processing ID is Null or not.
i.e. Data validation takes place if Processing ID = $NULL$. If
Processing ID != $NULL$ then it pushes data to the subform (again
standard Phase 2 action).

Just to keep things clear we rename Modified Date and Last Modified By
to Touched Date and Touched By and have our own Modified Date and Last
Modified By fields that are filled in by a filter when Processing ID =
$NULL$.

The naming conventions used for many of the fields on the various ITSM forms is
terrible from what I have seen.
The worst is the CHG:Infrastructure Change form where there are fields such as
ASCHG, ASLOGID, ASGRP.

The developers for these applications really should have been more privy to
better naming standards and better naming conventions than that.

I have been constantly having to assist users that are trying to writeup

to their report or as part of their Report criteria who struggle with figuring
out what fields they would need.

I could think of a few instances where you would want to have all those fields
though. You want to see who submitted a incident as well as who submitted the
worklog. When the incident was created in the same report as when the worklog
entry was submitted. Granted, it could be presented in a lot better fashion :)

Why not create a defined report for them to run? I know it doesn't fix the
problem but it's a workaround for now.

As to your problem, like you said, you are the advocate for your client. I
would report it even though you know they'll come back with either Works as
designed or a bug report number that probably wont get fixed for 5 years since
it's not a critical bug. You are not a BMC employee so it's not on you to get
it fixed. Once you report it and get the feedback to give to your client your
role is fulfilled.

Alternatively, you could compile a list of the problems and present them to
your client. I've worked for clients that were down to earth and as long as you
have a workaround that lets them do what they need to do they don't sweat the
small stuff. Anything that doesn't have a workaround and that they don't blow
off as not effecting their job you report.

That's my 2 cents anyway.

I'm torn whether or not to report some things to BMC as bugs.

For example, in IM 7.x the form HPD:Search-Worklog is an OOB join form that is
used in the Advanced Search functionality from the Incident Nav Bar (when you
are in an actual Incident). This allows you to search a join form of Work Log
entries + Incident Info.

Here's the problem - if you are on the Mid-tier and do a search and then select
multiple results list items and choose the Report button you get dumped to
the standard (ad hoc) report console for the web. The field selection list in
there shows all fields from the Join form (including those not displayed in any
of the views).

That gives us multiple entries for fields like Submitter, Submit Date, etc etc
etc (all the usual suspects).

Knowing how Remedy works I'd expect this - but I still would call it a bug.
It's definitnly an interface design error. However, if I reported every
instance of this in the application I suspect it would run in to the hundreds
of occurrences.

On the other hand I'm pretty much obligated to report it as a bug since I am
advocating for my customer and this makes the report interface unusable. They
do not know which field to use in the report. Since they are interested on
reporting on all Work Log entries for a particular problem, including the
submitter and the Work Log Submit Date they legitimately can not tell which is
which. And since they only have web access they can't exactly go check other
than through trial and error.

What do YOU do with this sort of problem?

Ivan,

I just bought some new AR System fixed and floating licenses in June --
I had some end-of-budget-year money -- my sales rep said the pricing was
going up in July.

I have seen no documentation and there does not seem to be anything on
BMC's website about the pricing changes. The government contract we buy
from has fixed pricing through sometime in 2009.

Subject: Pricing model changed in July 08?

Re: What's a bug anyway? (Kind of a rant...)

2008-10-15 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Actually, that's one of my favorite examples of inconsistency in ITSM. I don't
think it's because the same person created all of those fields, I think it
suffers the same problems any other large, long-lasting ARS application does.

So to further your complaint, the Change Manager's database name is CAB
Manager ( Change Co-ord )
The Change Assignee's database name is ASCHG
The Change Implementer's database name is ChgImp

You have all different naming conventions used for each set of fields, and it
gets even worse when you talk about company information for those too. The
Change Manager's company is called Company3, not to be confused with Support
Company that somehow references the Requester (which may not even be a part of
any support group) and I'm not aware of a Company2 field.

On the bright side, it keeps us employed, and those names are mostly
transparent to the end users. Just don't let them have SQL access to the
database...

Crystal Reports and other ad hoc Remedy AR System reports on what fields to add
to their report or as part of their Report criteria who struggle with figuring
out what fields they would need.

2008-10-15 Thread Joe DeSouza
You could also have the system generate a GUID on the parent record and store
it in a hidden field that you could use to bind the child records to the parent
record by pushing the GUID instead of the EntryID.. Create the GUID on opening
the parent record if the GUID field is null, and use this.

Use Application-Generate-GUID in a Set Fields Run process to generate it.

We put a Display Only Processing ID field on the 3rd form and have themain
form push to the 3rd form (Standard Phase 2 action). All workflow on the 3rd
form takes into account if Processing ID is Null or not. i.e. Data validation
takes place if Processing ID = $NULL$. If Processing ID != $NULL$ then it
pushes data to the subform (again standard Phase 2 action).

Just to keep things clear we rename Modified Date and Last Modified By to
Touched Date and Touched By and have our own Modified Date and Last Modified By
fields that are filled in by a filter when Processing ID = $NULL$.

Subject: Creating subfile records from list on submit

Dear List,

I have a main form and a subfile form. The subfile has two (actuallymore, but
this is just for illustration) fields, a Parent ID field that contains the
Entry ID of the main form, and an Info field. On submission of the main form,
I use a filter to retrieve a list from a third form, then process that list to
create subfile entries. Eg, it would retrieve a list like:

abcde
hijkl
mnopq

Then if the main form Request ID is 87 it should produce subfile entries
of:

Parent ID: 87
Info: abdde

Parent ID: 87
Info: hijkl

Parent ID: 87
Info: mnopq.

So, on submission of the main form, filters process the list, and moveeach
entry on the list into a temp field and do a Push Field to create the subfile
record.

Here's the problem. Push Fields get deferred to phase 2, and by thattime the
temp field is overwritten so no subfile records get created. If I add `! to the
end if the filter name, the filter runs in phase 1, but the main form Entry ID
hasn't been created yet.

The ideal would be to run the workflow in an Active Link After Submit, but
there are times when the main form itself is created via Push Field action, so
the Active Links won't run.

Any suggestions?

This will get your end-points, lines, etc into the structures.

From what I've seen it appears to match pretty much OOB+Extension pack.
