Hi Rick, If you follow the link it should take you to our registration area and thererfore automatically give you the conference rate. If you go direct to the hotel site you don't get it. So go to www.wwrug.com, register for the conference and then you click on the accomodation link at the bottom of the page which takes you to the accomodation page, and from there click on Hard Rock Hotel reservation. (we have that page in case a second hotel becomes neccessary, but not expected this year with their new tower opening on or ahead of schedule in August). I worked hard to get the deal we have at HRH, and we are all working hard on ensuring the content is the best available so I look forward to seeing everyone there. I have not heard anything like that for a long time. However, I personally find it a good sign when a company eats their own cooking so to speak. While I am no big fan on the current incarnation of the BMC Support website (still prefer old style Remedy Corp one), I do find it reassuring that it makes use of the Remedy product. What does it say about a large Enterprise-level company when they do not even use their own Enterprise-level product to host their own Support website? I logged into the Supportweb site yesterday to attempt to get a license key, and was also very surprised by the survey. It took about 3 or 4 times trying to click No and it finally went away. It took a little longer mouse click. Another weird thing is that the No button looks like it is grayed out and the Yes button active. Another strategy to get there survey completed I guess. Asset Management workflow questions
Listers ~ Before I start customizing, I need to ask a few questions. 1) I'm trying to determine if the ITSM OOTB functionality handles automated asset updates in terms of location changes. In other words, when an employee moves locations, is any automation built in that updates the location data for those specific assets in the CMDB? From what I can tell there is not, but I'm not sure if it's just a configuration I'm overlooking. Essentially, our staff needs to be able to specify (from within Service Desk or Task Management) which assets need to move with the individual and then have that information update the CMDB. It shouldn't be too hard to customize - I can just have a table linked to the AST:AssetPeople form - but I don't wanna re-invent the wheel if it already exists and it seems inefficient to have our Purchasing group manually update the Location data for each asset assigned to a moving employee... 2) Also, aside from looking at users' people profiles, is there a way to search all CI Types assigned to a particular user from the Asset Management console? Looks like you can only search by single CI Types from what I can tell...? 3) Finally, in terms of auditing: is there OOTB functionality that tracks an assets history as in who was it previously assigned to? It doesn't look like the CMDB Audits link under the Functions navigational menu in the CI asset forms captures this information... Thank you in advance. 1. Yes you have to modify 2. No this is held on the AST:Assetpeople and would need a customization with a table field to provide the details. 3. It shouldn’t be too hard to customize – I can just have a table linked to the AST:AssetPeople form – but I don’t wanna re-invent the wheel if it already exists and it seems inefficient to have our Purchasing group manually update the Location data for each asset assigned to a moving employee... C2 2) Also, aside from looking at users’ people profiles, is there a way to search all CI Types assigned to a particular user from the Asset Management console? Looks like you can only search by single CI Types from what I can tell…? 3) Finally, in terms of auditing: is there OOTB functionality that tracks an assets history as in who was it previously assigned to? Problem installing CMDB on Japanese server
I don't really expect any replies, but you never know. I am attempting to install Help Desk 6.0 on a Japanese Win2k3/SQL2kSP4 server (Japanese OS and DB). I can get AR Server installed ok, installing first in English to get the metadata populated, then doing an Upgrade to include the Japanese. Rebooting after every step is a must. The problem is that I can't get past that. If I try to install CMDB 1.0 (any patch) or 1.1 (any patch), the install (running ObjectStore.exe) doesn't get past the Preparing Setup screen before it terminates with a very cryptic, short, and unhelpful error message. It usually also corrupts the DB to the point where I have to re-install AR System before trying again. The same is true if I try to let Help Desk install the CMDB. *Here are the error details:* Error Code: -5009 : 0x80070006 Error Information: Ctor\ObjectWrapper.cpp (389) Kernel\Component.cpp (875) Kernel\CABFile.cpp (263) SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1611) PAPP:Remedy CMDB PVENDOR:Remedy (http://www.remedy.com) PGUID:8CB6C0F0-9384-414A-B7A7-A3B8290ED12B $7.1.100.1248PAK @Windows Service Pack 2 (3790) IE 6.0.3790.3959 Has anyone seen this before? Laurie, Roger already answered so I won’t repeat what he said. For what it’s worth, these are very common issues and I don’t think any of them have been addressed in 7.5 from what I’ve seen. Fortunately we can relatively easily customize the applications, but out of the box these issues exist. Re: Asset Management workflow questions
Actually to further #2 on this email, you can see all assets associated to a particular person in CTM:People when you bring up the person record and select the CI tab on the form. There you will see all assets related to that particular person. We had users however that needed some reporting (ad-hoc and query ad-hocs) that wanted to see all the people that use assets in a particular location or based on a particular Product name, etc. The best way we could provide our users that query capability was to clone the AST:AST-OuterJoinASTPeople form and add fields and setup a view of the data for users. This outer join form shows data from BMC.CORE:BMC_BaseElement and AST:AssetPeople. Re: WWRUG09 AT THE HARD ROCK HOTEL in LAS VEGAS!
ARSlist community, I am excited to see this conference coming together. Through the years, the annual user conference has been a highlight each year. A chance for the entire community to come together to learn about new things, to share what they have done, to support each other over shared challenges, to provide feedback to the company about the product, and many other things. I hear from customers time and again about how useful the conferences have been and about the amount of information they received in a short time. Often, the most valuable information is from the conversations with others at the conference so it is important that you come and not just try to get the information from slides that are posted later. This year has another interesting twist in that the conference is being organized, hosted, and run by the user community. So, this really is a User Conference in every sense of the word. I hope you consider this event in your schedule. It will be a week well spent. Oh, I am sure that there will be a little time to have some fun as well -- it will be in Las Vegas after all. You can leave this part off when talking to the boss. (but in case the boss does see it, you can note that after the User Conference held at Disneyland in the 1990s and at Disneyworld in early 2000s, the biggest complaint heard was that there was so much going on at the conference that was interesting and useful that they didn't even get a chance to sneak out for a day to go to the park) I have this event booked on my calendar already and will be there for the week. It would be terrific to see all of you there. And, to emphasize that while the expectation is to learn about and improve interaction with the BMC Remedy products, that there is also a fun side to things. And to show that as a User conference, it is possible to change the rules a bit. I would like to announce the opening of the WWRUG 2009 poetry/song contest. Let's have a bit of fun and try out your creative style. We welcome all folks to participate. There is no prize -- hey, I tell my son that not everything he does gets a reward, there are some things he is just expected to do -- but just a chance to get out of our traditional IT box and explore our artistic sides (as atrophied as they may be). To open things up, here is a quick attempt to establish a very easy bar for you to get over with your attempt: Ode to the WWRUGers What's this I hear? I'm told not to fear Its not a scary bug But an exciting WWRUG Starting with someone we all know as Lenny He collects fees for the conference which is worth every penny Our favorite booth bunny, Mr. Daniel Bloom Will have lots of partners, all in one room Presenters are arranged by our pal Phil I'm sure he will find folk to fill out the bill Master of Special Events, his name is Joel Sender Let's just make sure he doesn't send us on a bender These are our leaders, we are the crew This worries me, does it worry you? Patrick, Nothing saying you cannot have a session that asks these questions. There will be some folks from BMC there. I would be willing to be the target of the questions. Some I may be able to answer. Others are ones that I can take back to the approriate folks at BMC. The default behaviour is that they are arranged by alphabetical order on Navigational Tier 1. However, there is a bug and to fix that, you may do the following. 1. In the admin tool open SRM:CategoryReference form 2. Select Form-Form Properties 3. Click on the Sort tab 4. Click on Request ID in the Sorted Fields section and click the Remove button 5. Save the form 6. Restart the User tool and click on Request Entry Console Navigational Categories should be sorted in Alphabetic order. 911: Walking a Table
Hi All, I have been working on this code a long time now... and from reading the technical guide, Remedy can walk a table using AL Guides. My objective: I have a table. Based upon the rows that the user selects, I want to push the row values into a field. My understanding is that I can do this by creating workflow that walks a table. I looked at the Technical Guide and some of it is confusing to me. Am I supposed to build separate active links for each one of these steps? Walk Table Field Call Guide Walk Table Field End Row Walk Table Field Exit Guide Walk Table Field Find Next Row Walk Table Field Modify Row Walk Table Field Set Current Row Walk Table Field Verify Row Scenario: I have two entries in Table New Purchase Number PO4453. PO4523 When the user selects the two entries within the Table New - I want to push both of the numbers into Field A. I built an Active Link that triggers workflow when a button is pressed - the AL calls an AL Guide, that performs a table loop, on TABLE New, and I have 'Table Loop Selected Rows Only' field checked. Then this same active link sets Field A with the value of the row selected within the Table New. The problem is that the Field A is being set with ONLY the value from the first entry selected in the table. It does no read the second item the user selected. I read about '!, and '$ characters. I will try this next, but I want to make sure this is technically possible. I read in the technical guide, that work flow can be triggered after the user selects a row within the table. The user can select multiple rows correct? The AL guide has a checkbox for it - not sure why it is not working. Can someone tell me, what step am I missing? Someone mentioned setting a label, and then a go to label action. I tried this and nothing happened. **An Excellent Credit Score is 750. See Yours in Just 2 Easy Steps! Walking a Table
** Here's what you want to do: 1) Create an Active link that sets the Column from the table field (Purchase Number) into the other field that you want (Field A) via a Set fields action: 2) Create an Active Link Guide 3) Add the Active link from Step 1 into the Active Link guide. 4) Create another Active Link that Calls the guide, and in that Action at the bottom you'll see: Table Loop. Check it and then select the Table that has the column Just below that you'll see a selection for Table Loop Selected Rows Only. That should work. It is technically possible as we are using it all over the place. I think you're problem is that you have the Set Fields in the same active link that calls the guide. It should be two separate Active Links. 1 Active Link to call the guide, the other active link in the guide to set the field. HTH Matt P. ** Hi All, I have been working on this code a long time now... and from reading the technical guide, Remedy can walk a table using AL Guides. ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org Platinum Sponsor:rmisoluti...@verizon.net ARSlist: Where the Answers Are
Re: 911: Walking a Table
1. Create active link that calls guide. Choose the table to walk and then check the box that says walk selected rows. 2. Within the guide you will have one active link. It will take the value from the row and perform a set fields action to concatenate it to the field on the form. Re: 911: Walking a Table
Interesting - I created two Active Links as suggested, and had the 2nd AL call the guide. Now Field A is being set with the second number only (PO4523 us being set in the fields) - when I really need both values from the Purchase Number column to be set into the field. Scenario: I have two entries in Table New Purchase Number PO4453. PO4523 When the user selects the two entries within the Table New - I want to push both of the numbers into Field A. Before, the first value was being pushed into Field A. Now the code is pushing the second value only into Field A. I feel like I am so close - something is missing... I have 2 set fields actions: Name Value ztmpConsol1 $Col1$ ztmpConsol5 $ztmpConsol1$ + ;) + $Col1$ I am trying to get the system to know two items are selected, and to push both values into field A. Re: Problem installing CMDB on Japanese server
Good idea, Steve, but the metadata in pre-v7 versions will only install in English. From the 6.3 Release notes: ...*To use AR System with the Unicode Database Option to support multiple languages using a shared database, you must install an English version of AR System server before you install multi-language AR System servers. The reason you must install the English version first is because of the system forms that are auto-generated by the AR System server the first time it starts. Fields on these forms must be in a character set that can be understand by all languages. If the system forms are not loaded into the AR System server, the server does not work properly. 7-bit ASCII, the English version, is included in all languages. As a result, users must install the English server first...* So the procedure is to install in English first, then go back and add the Japanese language pack. I've tried it both ways anyway. The server is pretty bare - no A/V or firewall. The only thing that might be an issue is the .NET 3.0 framework, but that seems like it would only potentially conflict with the Mid-Tier, and I'm not using that. Bingo! It worked. The first table entry is in Field A twice, and the 2nd table entry is only in Field A once. But at least now there are two entries pushing to Field A. And to show that as a User conference, it
