 Hi list.
I'm making some tests concerning the Assigned Group on Change Requests.
The last test I took is concerning the Earliest Start Date field.
According to the workflow, I assume that this field must take the next
earliest day/hour related to the Group assigned Calendar, since the
qualification of the AL is an Application-Bus-Time-Add between this field
 and the Lead Time field.
The strange thing is that if the $SERVERTIMESTAMP$ is on the interval we
defined to the group's calendar, the field is filled with the actual
day/hour. But if I change the Group's Calendar to an hour outside the
$SERVERTIMESTAMP$ the AL adds 3 hours (the 3 is the Offset unit hour from
the PROCESS Command) to that field, instead of checking how many hours
should be calculated according to the Group's Calendar.

Anyone has seen this before? Is there any Defect created by BMC?

 Thanks in advance

how to import into currency fields?

2009-06-10 Thread Kaye Bernales
Hi,

We are trying to update asset records and one of the fields we need to
import value into is a currency field. We are using Remedy import tool
and have tried to import with values: 0.00, 0, 0.00 AUD to no avail...We
are always getting error that the imported value is not a correct value
for the field..

We are using Remedy 6.3. Any ideas on how we could import values?

Thanks!

Hi,

We have the same issue here.
I never had time to report or investigate it, but suspect it is caused by the
way fields are overlaid on the form.
You may need to open the form and just bring the question 7 character field to
the front.

I can't find any info on this on developer network, bmc knowledge base
or here.

Has anyone encountered the issue in 7.1 patch 6 (or any patches) where
the expand box doesn't work for some fields in Request Entry service
reqeusts?
It works in the web client but not the user tool.

For example, Question #7 would be a multiline answer but clicking on
the expand box won't bring up the text box.
But in the web client it does.

It happens on Question #3, #7

Another tip for the save to happen almost instantaneously is that before saving
your Active link or Active links or any other workflow such as filters etc, is
that you click on the Server Name on the server window, so as to not display
the list of the Active Links or the Filters or whatever it is that you are
saving.

The Admin tool is designed to perform a search after every save if you have the
list showing. This search does not happen if you either close the Server window
or click on its name so that the list does not show.. Then it doesn't really
matter if you have details enabled or not..

Hi 권민석, (long live cut paste)

After you save a workflow object, the server will re-cache its objects
causing disruption to any connected users. Depending on the amount of memory
and the amount of forms and workflow on your server, this can be for a
significant amount of time.

This is just one of the reasons you should never develop on a server that is
actually used for production purposes... ;-)

If you have a testing/dev environment, switch it to Development Cache Mode
(look for it in the *Configuring* guide). This way, any connected users will
have a better experience. There is a downside to this as well, it will
affect overall performance of the server; you should NOT set a production
system to Development Cache Mode.

Re: Re : AW: RESOVLED Re: Long Time Saving Active Link

2009-06-10 Thread Michiel Beijen
I see - are you really sure that Development Cache Mode is on? You'd have to
restart the server after setting the checkbox in order for the setting to
take effect. But as I mentioned, you will be experiencing other kinds of
performance issues - maybe the one you mentioned - if you are running
Development Cache Mode on a production system. If you'd want to take my
advice, to prevent performance issues, please do not use this on a
production environment.

In my experience, Development Cache Mode is a GREAT thing for test or
development servers with only a couple of users; but will be able to bring
your system to a grinding halt when large amounts of users are connected.

Also, I would strongly advice not import workflow objects on a live server
during business hours. Please use a downtime slot in your SLA for this and
make sure no users are connected to your server (for instance setting
Admin-Only mode and disconnecting all connected users). And, of course,
make sure to communicate your scheduled downtime to your users...

Server IP address change

2009-06-10 Thread Brickell, Scott
Hey folks,

This up coming weekend our entire environment will have new IP addresses

ARS 6.3 on Linux

Midtier 6.01 on AIX

Oracle 9.2.x and 10.2.x

Other than maybe needing to remove the .multilicense file if problems
arise, any other gotchas I should be looking out for?

Many thanks for the help,

Sean,
I know it isn't intuitive, but you still
use the Set Field to do the push. There are 'Input Mappings' and
'Output Mappings' on Set Field using Web Services. When I do my push
I use 'Input Mappings' to specify what I'm pushing and receive
my acknowledgement success/failure/error response through 'Output Mappings'

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can assist me with what is hopefully a simple question
with a simple answer on web services.

I know that you can set the contents of a field by using a web service
to go and extract the data from an external source

Example

modify entry on a form - this invokes the SET field to read data from WEB
SERVICE, use a WSDL to go off, compare and match the Stock Market Symbol
and then pull back the results and update the field on the form (Remedy
example)

But.my question is, if i wanted to PUSH the
results of a field/s based on an SUBMIT or MODIFY out through a WEB SERVICE,
how do i do it ?

I want to be able to push data out under certain scenarios to another ticketing
system and it will need to be sent to a Web Service.

PUSH doesnt have the option to PUSH value to WEB SERVICEyou
only seem to be able to do a SET FIELD and then Read Value From
a Web service

Am i being blind or just blindly dumb today ???

All help gratefully received.

TIA

How do you PUSH to a Web Service ???

 **
 Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can assist me with what is hopefully a simple question
with a simple answer on web services.

I know that you can set the contents of a field by using a web service to go
and extract the data from an external source

 Example

modify entry on a form - this invokes the SET field to read data from WEB
SERVICE, use a WSDL to go off, compare and match the Stock Market Symbol and
then pull back the results and update the field on the form (Remedy example)

But.my question is, if i wanted to PUSH the results of a field/s
based on an SUBMIT or MODIFY out through a WEB SERVICE, how do i do it ?

I want to be able to push data out under certain scenarios to another
ticketing system and it will need to be sent to a Web Service.

PUSH doesnt have the option to PUSH value to WEB SERVICEyou only seem
to be able to do a SET FIELD and then Read Value From a Web service

Am i being blind or just blindly dumb today ???

 All help gratefully received.

 TIA

 Sean

OT:Web Services

2009-06-10 Thread Nall, Roger
ARS 7.1 patch4
Oracle 10g
Solaris

I am not sure this is an OT subject or not.

We have a form in Remedy that has a selection filed with the following custom
enumeration values:

* 0

* 1

* 2

* 4

* 8

* 16

* 32

* 64

* 128
We have created a web service for consumption on this form. The system that is
consuming this web service is a .NET system. The developers of that system
stage that when they view the values of this selection filed in their tools
through the web service they see the linear 1-9 values for enumeration rather
than the values we have set. Is there something we need to do so they can see
the custom values?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Re: Archiving and reporting/searching?

2009-06-10 Thread Pruitt, Christopher J
If you are using the imbedded Archiving solution for AR System and you are
doing an Archive Type of 'Copy to Archive', then creating a join does not make
since because the data would still be in the original data form, so no need to
a join. However, it you are doing a 'Copy to Archive and Delete form Source'
then building a join is a good idea, however, doing a Join and choosing
Request ID as the join criteria would not work.

The problem is when the data moves to the Archive form the Request ID form
the original data form is copied into a field called Original Request ID and
the Request ID on the Archive form would never match the Request ID on the
Original data form, as it gets a new Request ID when the record is moved to
the Archive. Second, for a join on fields to work there has to be matching
data in those fields on both forms.

What we did was to include a field called Form Name that held the name of the
original data form in it and then we did the join criteria on that field.
However, you really need to be careful on doing reports off of this join form.
I will give you duplicates.

For example on one of the Data form to Archive form joins we have the following
counts:

A_Test_Data:4,450,400
A_Test_Archive: 34
A_Test_JN: 151,313,600

If you do the math the 151,313,600 equals 4,450,400 x 34. So you really need to
make sure when you are doing reports to use a lot of qualifications to
eliminate getting duplicate records returned.

I don't think it matters. You can choose any field.
I have not tested it, but it should work and should be easy for you to

Re: Looking for best way to upgrade from 7.0.1 to 7.1.0

2009-06-10 Thread Begosh, Kevin
Tim,
I will give you an account of what I have been through. We did the same thing
as you going from 7.0 to 7.1 and we have 6 different environments that I did
this on. It really depends on how you did your customizations because when a
AL comes in from the patch it will overwrite what is OOB. So for example if
you took an AL that was OOB and renamed it as your own and then made your
changes and disabled the OOB one then all the patch would do is come through
and re-enable the OOB one. So you would just have to disable the OOB one as
well. Now if you just changed the OOB AL and did not rename it then the patch
is going to blow out your changes. As for the forms, I was told by BMC and we
experienced the same thing that if you add a custom field to a OOB form and do
not use their range then you should be fine. We had the same experience in
that all the fields we added where there and did not get deleted, however
sometimes the patch does take them out of the view so change that before you
start freaking out. So basically what we did after the patches is went through
and did extensive testing on what the patch changed and then when we went to
production we had a def file of all the stuff we needed to change back. Import
the patch and then import the changes and we were good to go. It was actually
easy doing in production but that was because we did a lot of testing. I did
notice the most annoying thing was that the patch change permissions we added
to OOB forms. Like the user form. We made it public read and every time we
run a patch it seems like it removes that permission, but again those are the
things we found out during testing. All in all I do not think it was too bad
but again that depends on your development standards and how you change OOB
forms and workflow. Let me know if I can be of anymore help.

Hi,

Attempting to upgrade from 7.0.1 patch 2 to 7.1 patch 7

Basically we have:

Arserver - 7.0.1 patch 2 upgrade to 7.1 patch 7
Approver - 7.0.1upgrade to 7.1 patch 7
Change - 7.0.2 upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7
Incident - 7.0.2upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7
Problem - 7.0.2upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7

So I did upgrade/patch Arserver/Approval/assignment/Change/Incident/Problem and
my forms got overwritten and workflow I have shut off is back on. So do I
need to reimport my forms and workflow?

This is all on Windows 2003 running SQL 2005.

Looking for others that have upgraded ITSM module and what they have done.

Thanks

Thanks for the info Chris. I would assume we would do the archive to
delete from original. What is the value of archiving, but not deleting?
(maybe I'm missing something). Wouldn't it still search all the data in
the original form if it weren't deleted?

Sean,
There is a 202 HTTP Result Code available for use in those situations
where an immediate reply may not be available/practical. 202 means the
data was received, but the result will be coming in a later message. The
problem with using this type of interface is keeping track of everything
to tie up all the loose ends, how to keep transactions in the proper
order, when to do retransmits, etc. But, in some situations its better
than having your threads tied up waiting for a response.

I have this type of connection set up with a business partner. Be aware
of Remedy bugs on AR System versions 7.0.1 patch 004 and beyond where
axis handling of this result code changed. The bug is supposedly fixed in
7.5 patch 1 AR System and there is a workaround available for 7.0.1 AR
System(use the axis.jar file from 7.0.1 patch 003 or before - I use 6.3
axis.jar). I am unsure if there is a workaround available for 7.1 AR
System.

Dennis

Hi all,

Thanks for the replies on this and i've managed to set up a simple form on
2 different Remedy servers that i , PUSH the data out and receive the
ticket number back onto the originating form.

So, the first thing i see is a very slight delay in the update or error
message coming back so as this is a 'real-time' web service, has anyone
any thoughts as to what issues may be on the horizon as the filter
obviously waits for the reply to come back through the output mapping ?

I suppose this can be best described as a synchronous solution instead of
an async-solution, where the outbound transaction is sent, and then the
response is processed when and if it comes back.

Does anyone have any thoughts on my sync/async comments and whether async
is actually possible or worth considering.

thanks again all,

Sean

Sean,
I know it isn't intuitive, but you still use the Set Field to do the push.
There are 'Input Mappings' and 'Output Mappings' on Set Field using Web
Services. When I do my push I use 'Input Mappings' to specify what I'm
pushing and receive my acknowledgement success/failure/error response
through 'Output Mappings' fields.

How long does it take to display a display-only field?

2009-06-10 Thread Dwayne Martin
Dear List,

We are considering an operation that will mean adding 50 display-only fields to
a form. This means that the system will need to gather info on each field
before it can display a record.

About how long would that take, and would there be any benefit to making the
fields hidden?

Obviously it depends on the speed of the PC and whether or not we are using the
User tool or Mid-Tier, but can anyone give us a ruff ball-park guess?

I see no value in not deleting from the original source. I know that
option is available but I could never understand why you would want to
do that. I am sure there are some who could justify it. We just don't do
it. We delete from Source after coping to the Archive.

Thanks for the info Chris. I would assume we would do the archive to
delete from original. What is the value of archiving, but not deleting?
(maybe I'm missing something). Wouldn't it still search all the data in
the original form if it weren't deleted?

Re: Archiving and reporting/searching?

If you are using the imbedded Archiving solution for AR System and you
are doing an Archive Type of 'Copy to Archive', then creating a join
does not make since because the data would still be in the original data
form, so no need to a join. However, it you are doing a 'Copy to Archive
and Delete form Source' then building a join is a good idea, however,
doing a Join and choosing Request ID as the join criteria would not
work.

The problem is when the data moves to the Archive form the Request ID
form the original data form is copied into a field called Original
Request ID and the Request ID on the Archive form would never match
the Request ID on the Original data form, as it gets a new Request
ID when the record is moved to the Archive. Second, for a join on
fields to work there has to be matching data in those fields on both
forms.

What we did was to include a field called Form Name that held the name
of the original data form in it and then we did the join criteria on
that field. However, you really need to be careful on doing reports off
of this join form. I will give you duplicates.

For example on one of the Data form to Archive form joins we have the
following counts:

A_Test_Data: 4,450,400
A_Test_Archive: 34
A_Test_JN: 151,313,600

If you do the math the 151,313,600 equals 4,450,400 x 34. So you really
need to make sure when you are doing reports to use a lot of
qualifications to eliminate getting duplicate records returned.

I don't think it matters. You can choose any field.
I have not tested it, but it should work and should be easy for you to

That's a real guess, but it could take anywhere from 1/2 a second to
several seconds depending on what you have to do to fill each field.
(and if they are lookups is the data indexed for the lookup)

Also are you going to fill them by client side Active Links or serve
side Get Filters?

Re: how to import into currency fields?

2009-06-10 Thread Rick Cook
Kay, I noticed the same problem in 6.3. The workaround (I won't call it a
fix) was this:

1) Create a character field in the form into which you are importing the
data, or identify an existing one that isn't being used.
2) Create a Filter that fires on Merge that moves the data from the
character field to the currency field.
3) Map your import to push the currency data to the character field.
4) When you are done, you can delete the character field (if you created
one) and the Filter.

Hi Kaye,

The Square box is a separator character an x'04' The fields in q are

the entered amount, the entered currency, the conversion date, the number of
functional currencies,a nd then three elements for each functional currency
defined in the field on the form.

You may be able to generate a similar text string with a null for the date
and 0 for all non-aud currencies but I am not sure about this.

Not sure how you can import only the single currency value. If this is a
one-time thing, and AUD is the default currency, I can give you a
Meta-Update 30 day trial license and you could import a number such as
1.00

Of-course, you could use Meta-Update - especially since you know it :)

To see the required format for the import tool, simple take a currency value

2009-06-10 Thread strauss
We just completed patching production from ITSM 7.0.03.007 to 009 last weekend.
I rehearsed this on development several times, and the key is to identify all
of the things that you will have to do afterwards on your test runs, and have
them in a checklist with supporting def files beforehand. It gets _much_ more
complicated if you also have to reapply an add-on patch like 9002 (we had to)
or 9004 afterwards (our experience with 9002 caused us to avoid 9004). If you
have a lot of custom fields, at a minimum they are going to get dropped off the
updated form views and have to be added back... Migrator is THE best way to
handle this chore, as well as any fields you moved, resized, or un-hid (we have
some of all three on HPD:Help Desk). You will also find it necessary to review
all of the workflow (ALs, Filters, both kinds of Guides, even Menus) the you
had disabled and replaced with custom objects for _changes_ made by the patch.
I found several where I had to modify my custom objects to incorporate changes
(new Set Field or Change Field actions, or qualifications, or mappings On Open
or On Close) made by the patch to the OOTB object, and of course re-disable the
OOTB object. [example: Active Link INT:HPDTMS:INC:CreateNewTaskOpenTAS] This
is the other place that Migrator will help you - identifying the workflow that
the patch has changed that might affect your customizations.

When we started testing, we were planning to add Asset Management to our
system, which comes in at patch 003 and requires that you re-run patch 007 to
bring it up even to the other apps (we went live on patch 007 in May 2008),
which also reapplies 007 to your existing apps and wipes out their
customizations. In this scenario, I had several hours of cleanup work to do
plus the down time of installing Asset, and when we failed to acquire Asset I
was able to drop this requirement. The problem is that patch 007 (and earlier)
all may have devastating effects on your customizations since they overwrite
some forms rather than update them, and replace a lot of form views. They also
replaced a number of Report records with ones that have incorrect or NULL
Locale information - I usually have to go back and re-set them to en_US
manually. Patches 008 and 009 are much more benign by comparison, but they do
include a complete re-design of the CTM:People Search form and several others
to use external qualifications. It is an improvement, but it forced me to
re-develop our customizations to that module completely.

On the AR Server side, we originally rehearsed patching from ARS 7.1.00.002 to
006, and found that the main changes that affected our customizations were to
the Password Management subsystem. For now I plan to leave it at 7.1.00.002
since I _supposedly_ can upgrade directly from 7.1.00.002 to 7.5.00.001. We'll
see if that actually works.

If you have Remedy Knowledge Management installed (which is a completely manual
integration), patches before 008 would damage it, and 9002 would wipe it out
completely. Nice to see that the BMC developers coordinated their patches so
well with each other.

Also, remember to flush your mid-tier cache after the patching process is
complete and force a new pre-fetch of the updated applications.

Hi,

Attempting to upgrade from 7.0.1 patch 2 to 7.1 patch 7

Basically we have:

Arserver - 7.0.1 patch 2 upgrade to 7.1 patch 7
Approver - 7.0.1upgrade to 7.1 patch 7
Change - 7.0.2 upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7
Incident - 7.0.2upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7
Problem - 7.0.2upgrade to 7.0.3 patch 7

So I did upgrade/patch Arserver/Approval/assignment/Change/Incident/Problem and
my forms got overwritten and workflow I have shut off is back on. So do I
need to reimport my forms and workflow?

This is all on Windows 2003 running SQL 2005.

Looking for others that have upgraded ITSM module and what they have done.

Thanks

Tim

** I see - are you really sure that Development Cache Mode is on? You'd have to
restart the server after setting the checkbox in order for the setting to take
effect. But as I mentioned, you will be experiencing other kinds of performance
issues - maybe the one you mentioned - if you are running Development Cache
Mode on a production system. If you'd want to take my advice, to prevent
performance issues, please do not use this on a production environment.

In my experience, Development Cache Mode is a GREAT thing for test or
development servers with only a couple of users; but will be able to bring your
system to a grinding halt when large amounts of users are connected.

Also, I would strongly advice not import workflow objects on a live server
during business hours. Please use a downtime slot in your SLA for this and make
sure no users are connected to your server (for instance setting Admin-Only
mode and disconnecting all connected users). And, of course, make sure to
communicate your scheduled downtime to your users...

** Hi 권민석, (long live cut paste)

After you save a workflow object, the server will re-cache its objects
causing disruption to any connected users. Depending on the amount of memory
and the amount of forms and workflow on your server, this can be for a
significant amount of time.

This is just one of the reasons you should never develop on a server
that is actually used for production purposes... ;-)

If you have a testing/dev environment, switch it to Development Cache
Mode (look for it in the Configuring guide). This way, any connected users will
have a better experience. There is a downside to this as well, it will affect
overall performance of the server; you should NOT set a production system to
Development Cache Mode.

Another tip for the save to happen almost instantaneously is that
before saving your Active link or Active links or any other workflow such as
filters etc, is that you click on the Server Name on the server window, so as
to not display the list of the Active Links or the Filters or whatever it is
that you are saving.

The Admin tool is designed to perform a search after every save if you
have the list showing. This search does not happen if you either close the
Server window or click on its name so that the list does not show.. Then it
doesn't really matter if you have details enabled or not..

Frederick, what we are doing is creating a change log showing who changed what

Dwayne,

If the fields are temp fields only used for workflow processing and the user
will never see them, you can put them on a separate view of the form. By doing
so they will still be accessible to workflow but will not impact load time.
There is a caveat with this approach as either table
fields or attachments still need to be on the displayed view (sorry been awhile
so I don't recall which). An example of this approach was taking the OTB Help
Desk form, moving all temp fields to a new view (call it temp or whatever).
This took load time from nearly 1.5 minutes to 30 seconds in a shared
development/uat environment (2 instances on a single

That's a real guess, but it could take anywhere from 1/2 a second to several
seconds depending on what you have to do to fill each field.
(and if they are lookups is the data indexed for the lookup)

Also are you going to fill them by client side Active Links or serve side Get

moving the assets to one of those sites once the asset is reported. We then
process the item through the security protocol which varies with the class of
the device. General the LOST/STOLEN process are document in Work Info records:

Evidence of a theft is documented in the work info record for the asset
including a police report number. Details of the how the device was lost is
also processed (Fell over board on vacation) in the work info records. If IM,
CM, or Task Management record are generated in the process they are related to
the CI. For example the remote wipe and delete service task complete by

2009-06-10 Thread Jason Miller
The way I understand workflow caching is that with Dev Cache Mode off user
operations have a higher priority over admin operations. Admin changes will
wait behind user activity for a good time to make the change/recache (not
sure on the exact logic of finding a good time). With Dev Cache Mode on
user operations are not given precedence over admin operations. This sounds
consistent with what you are experiencing.

Try turning off Dev Cache Mode and restarting the AR Server process.

How is it in your case?

** Hi 권민석, (long live cut paste)

After you save a workflow object, the server will re-cache its objects
causing disruption to any connected users. Depending on the amount of memory
and the amount of forms and workflow on your server, this can be for a
 significant amount of time.

This is just one of the reasons you should never develop on a server that
is actually used for production purposes... ;-)

If you have a testing/dev environment, switch it to Development Cache Mode
(look for it in the *Configuring* guide). This way, any connected users
will have a better experience. There is a downside to this as well, it will
affect overall performance of the server; you should NOT set a production
 system to Development Cache Mode.

Is it happened after CMDB install?

Another tip for the save to happen almost instantaneously is that before
saving your Active link or Active links or any other workflow such as
filters etc, is that you click on the Server Name on the server window, so
as to not display the list of the Active Links or the Filters or whatever it
 is that you are saving.

The Admin tool is designed to perform a search after every save if you have
the list showing. This search does not happen if you either close the Server
window or click on its name so that the list does not show.. Then it doesn't
really matter if you have details enabled or not..

I applied the patch and did some tested with active links but not sure if I

It's a little bit of a pain to switch off the details view - but typically
I'd use ARUtilities to determine the details etc, and leave the admin tool

Qualification Anomaly discovered in Operational/Product Tiered Menus for Incident Managment 7.5.

2009-06-10 Thread Bilinski, John
All,

I wanted to make everyone aware of an anomaly I found with the menu
qualifications in the the Operational/Product tiered menus attached to
the HPD:HelpDesk form in Incident Mgt v7.5.01. The qualifications, used
in the Incident Mgt v7.5 menus to pull in the menu values from Company
Module Relationship Config dialog forms for both the Operational and
Product categorizations are different from the Incident Mgt 7.1 versions
of the same menus (they are even the same name). The qualifications
found in the v7.5 menus disables the functionality offered by the
checkboxes under the support modules (User Service Restoration,
Infrastructure Event etc) on the Company/Module Relationship
configuration forms for displaying or hiding Categorizations based on
Incident type field on the Incident form.

NOTE: I have not compared the menu qualifications for Change and Problem
Mgt menus yet.

Has anyone else seen this behavior with ITSM patch 7.5.01? And if so
have you put in a request for this to be fixed in the next patch for
Remedy 7.5?

Below is a side by side comparison of the menu qualifications from both
7.1 and 7.5. Notice that dynamic field values from the Configuration
forms (ex. $10001$) are used in the version 7.1 menus allowing
for the menu to cross check to allow the Categorizations to display or
hide:

Just FYI, I'm not ignoring this... I can verify that at least one part of
Atrium Core - the Atrium Registry - will not support Tomcat 5.5.

There's a reference to this in the Install Guide, page 46:

Table 3-6: Worksheet for BMC Atrium Web Services Registry (2 of 3)

Note: Because Tomcat 5.5, which comes with AR System, is not supported, do not
point to that version of Tomcat. BMC Atrium Web Services Registry requires
Tomcat version 6.

I'm just checking to see if any other areas have that limitation as well.

Subject: Qualification Anomaly discovered in Operational/Product Tiered Menus
for Incident Managment 7.5.

All,

I wanted to make everyone aware of an anomaly I found with the menu
qualifications in the the Operational/Product tiered menus attached to the
HPD:HelpDesk form in Incident Mgt v7.5.01. The qualifications, used in the
Incident Mgt v7.5 menus to pull in the menu values from Company Module
Relationship Config dialog forms for both the Operational and Product
categorizations are different from the Incident Mgt 7.1 versions of the same
menus (they are even the same name). The qualifications found in the v7.5 menus
disables the functionality offered by the checkboxes under the support modules
(User Service Restoration, Infrastructure Event etc) on the Company/Module
Relationship configuration forms for displaying or hiding Categorizations based
on Incident type field on the Incident form.

NOTE: I have not compared the menu qualifications for Change and Problem Mgt
menus yet.

Has anyone else seen this behavior with ITSM patch 7.5.01? And if so have you
put in a request for this to be fixed in the next patch for Remedy 7.5?

Below is a side by side comparison of the menu qualifications from both 7.1 and
7.5. Notice that dynamic field values from the Configuration forms (ex.
$10001$) are used in the version 7.1 menus allowing for the menu to
cross check to allow the Categorizations to display or hide:

David, I think we would be fine with knowing that any one version of Tomcat

Re: Dealing with stolen Assets

2009-06-10 Thread Wallace, Kelvin
I created a filter for our homegrown assets form. Whenever someone
modifies the record with a status of Stolen or Missing, it notifies our
property custodian - just in case the item becomes found. The
custodian can contact the last-modified-by to determine the item's
status.

The Stolen/Missing record stays until we go through a certification
process with our Finance Accounting office - usually after 2 or 3
years just to make sure it is not out there somewhere - after which it
moves from Stolen/Missing to a Removed status.

This looks like it may be the best option for us as well. It's simple
and seems to make sense since the location really did change.

We also have no tie between our financial system and Remedy at this
point, and the only part we are looking at integrating at this time are
related to purchasing of new equipment, so this wouldn't affect it.

We created 2 standard locations/sites called LOST and STOLEN. We start
with moving the assets to one of those sites once the asset is reported.
We then process the item through the security protocol which varies
with the class of the device. General the LOST/STOLEN process are
document in Work Info records:

Evidence of a theft is documented in the work info record for the asset
including a police report number. Details of the how the device was
lost is also processed (Fell over board on vacation) in the work info
records. If IM, CM, or Task Management record are generated in the
process they are related to the CI. For example the remote wipe and
delete service task complete by operations for a lost Black Berry.

This works for us; however, our financials are not integrated at this
time with Remedy.

Hope this helps,

still archive old data.  What are other organizations doing?  Does anyone
have any white papers or such they can share?  We are using ARS 7.1.

 TIA!
 Melissa

Re: Web Services

2009-06-10 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
What the web service publishes is the text in the actual values for
selection lists, not the enumeration IDs. You can see it in the WSDL
tab of the web service.

Fred,

We have Text in the Admin tool for the actual and alias values. The
numbers are the ID Enumeration. It is the ID Enumeration values that
they want to see which is what we thought they would see because that is
what is stored.

What do you see when you look at the WSDL? A Selection list in Remedy
should show up as a String in the XML with a list of possible
enumeration values. Are your custom values in both the Selection and
Alias in the Admin tool?

I am not sure this is an OT subject or not.

We have a form in Remedy that has a selection filed with the following
custom enumeration values:
* 0
* 1
* 2
* 4
* 8
* 16
* 32
* 64
* 128
We have created a web service for consumption on this form. The system
that is consuming this web service is a .NET system. The developers of
that system stage that when they view the values of this selection filed
in their tools through the web service they see the linear 1-9 values
for enumeration rather than the values we have set. Is there something
we need to do so they can see the custom values?

Any assistance is appreciated.

Re: Qualification Anomaly discovered in Operational/Product Tiered Menus for Incident Managment 7.5.

2009-06-10 Thread Bilinski, John
All,

I confirmed this issue with BMC and they submitted a Defect ticket on
this issue. Hopefully they will resolve this issue hopefully in the next
release and/or patch for ITSM 7.5.

Subject: Qualification Anomaly discovered in Operational/Product Tiered
Menus for Incident Managment 7.5.

Notice that dynamic field values from the Configuration
forms (ex. $10001$) are used in the version 7.1 menus allowing
for the menu to cross check to allow the Categorizations to display or
hide:

Re: how to import into currency fields?

2009-06-10 Thread Michiel Beijen
What always worked for me, is to import with an additional zero to the end,
like this: 123.95 USD 0. That's *a lot* simpler than using additional
workflow. In this example, the 0 is the epoch value for the currency
conversion date. If you are not using other currencies and the conversion
functions in AR System (and I have yet to run into a client that does) then
you will be just fine without it.

** Kay, I noticed the same problem in 6.3. The workaround (I won't call it
a fix) was this:

1) Create a character field in the form into which you are importing the
data, or identify an existing one that isn't being used.
2) Create a Filter that fires on Merge that moves the data from the
character field to the currency field.
3) Map your import to push the currency data to the character field.
4) When you are done, you can delete the character field (if you created
one) and the Filter.
