SV: Escalations on vendor forms

2009-12-08 Thread Jonas Stumph Stevnsvig
Hello again,

Do any of you have escalations running on vendor forms on a 7.5 server? I am
having a bit of a hard time beleiving that I am the only one with the problem.
And BMC's supporters apparently aren't reading my questions properly.

We're on 7.5 patch 3.

Emne: Escalations on vendor forms

**
Hello all you merrymakers and hardworking folk,

I have a little bit of a bother with an escalation which will not run on 7.5
but ran fine on 6.3;

The escalation runs on a vendor form, but no matter what I try, it comes up
with the message " --> Failed qualification" even if my qualification is empty.

I even tried making a separate escalation on a different vendorform - same
result.

has anyone met this before?

with best regards and Seasonal greetings

Re: View form to MS SQL database from Oracle based ARSystem

2009-12-08 Thread Victor Olufowobi

Joe,

Thanks for the information and the links.

Unfortunately the external application does not publish web services
- I was thinking that maybe I could use the AIE plugin to create view
forms without going through the procedure of creating db link.
... But nevermind, I'll have to talk to the Oracle db administrator
:)

Thanks again

** Victor, Using the AIE should get you "close" where you
want to be.. Its straight forward, once you have AIE installed.. All
you need to do is configure AIE to access the MS-SQL database using
the AIE configuration console (its straight forward), and then create
that link. You then can use AIE schedules to exchange data. This means
that you would need a container table to hold that data. You cannot to
the best of my knowledge create a view form directly to a table in
MS-SQL using the AIE plugin.. So data got this way will not be online
data but will take a while to refresh depending on your refresh
schedules. To create a direct connection from Oracle to MS-SQL by
creating a table view of you would need to install the Oracle ODBC
drivers. Check this article..
http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_database_link_sql_server_oracle.htm [1]
Using JDBC to access MS-SQL. This however may not allow you to create
a DB link from Oracle to MS-SQL
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378749.aspx [2] Have you
considered using Web Services for whatever you want to do? Does that
other application driven by that foreign data publish web services you
could consume? That would be perhaps more straight forward.. There
are also third party tools you may want to consider if you want data
connections to be online and real time.. Tibco is a name that comes to
my mind as I have used it in the past. Hope this helps.. Cheers

I need to create view forms to MS SQL databese to be used by ARS 7.5

Do I need to create linked server from Oracle Database or can I just
use available plugins from ARS (for example the one used by AIE)?

Any link to relevant documentation will be appreciated

Re: View form to MS SQL database from Oracle based ARSystem

2009-12-08 Thread Peter Romain
One thing to be aware of is that if AIE is not installed on a Windows
system then the SQL Server adaptor is not available.

You would then need to install a separate instance of AIE on a Windows box
to be able to do this.

Also, in AIE 7.5 the workflow was changed so that the SQL Server adaptor
is always disabled if Remedy is not installed on a Windows box. This means
that you need to customise the workflow if you plan install the AIE
instances on Windows to use the SQL Server adaptor.

Cheers

Peter

Re: CI TYPE FOR HUBS, SWITCHES & ROUTERS

2009-12-08 Thread Peter Romain
Whereas there is nothing wrong with this solution if it suits the business
you should be aware that discovery tools will put all switchers, hubs,
etc in the Computer System class.

If you plan to use discovery in the future then you may be prevented from
using the out-of-the-box discovery interfaces.

CMDB 1.1 - cmdb2asset?

2009-12-08 Thread Kali Obsum
Hi,

We are using CMDB 1.1, and we added some new fields in the
BMC:BMC_AssetBase form using Class Manager. How do I make these new
fields appear in the AST forms?
I've been reading about needing to use cmdb2asset utility to do
this...where do i access this and how do i use this?

Thanks!

If you've added a few fields the quickest and easiest method is to just open
the AST form in the Admin tool and add the fields to the join. The
cmdb2asset utility is more useful when creating a brand new class.

Re: Escalations on vendor forms

2009-12-08 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

I do not think that ARDBC-forms in general is a problem in escalations.

However, many ARDBC-forms has only implemented a sub-set of the
Qualification-criteria that you can specify.

Many of the BMC-Vendor-forms I have seen has not implemented the
ARDBCGetEntry()-call needed to actually perform an escalation all the way.

Whereas there is nothing wrong with this solution if it suits the business
you should be aware that discovery tools will put all switchers, hubs,
etc in the Computer System class.

If you plan to use discovery in the future then you may be prevented from
using the out-of-the-box discovery interfaces.

Cheers

All,

Not sure if this is possible, but is there the ability to
disable Refresh of a table so that even if an Active Link (Change
Fields) action requests a refresh, it does not occur?

I guess I'm trying to take the easy way out... instead of
disabling the refresh action on 10 active links, I'd like to just do it
on the 1 table.

Thanks.

Mark,

It has been a while since I looked at this specific detail of how ARS
work flow deals with diary fields. So I am working from memory and it
is a bit crusty...

I think
If the user updates the field with a new entry then only the new
entry is sent in the Push action.
If the user does NOT update the field then the whole field's contents are sent.

And I vaguely think that there may also be differenece in how Active
Links vs Filters deal with this condition too. ( AKA: Maybe the above
logic was for Active Links and not filters? )

And you may even find difference in specific versions/patches over the
years too.

As others have suggested, I think the best way to control this is to
capture the data in a separate field and have work flow append it to
the Diary field when necessary. That design approach will allow you to
be able to maintain an independent control over just the new content
as part of the transaction.

However, if you are designing around how an ARS Diary field works,
then maybe it is time to stop using them? (Like BMC appears to have
done in the latest versions of their applications.)

Re: CI TYPE FOR HUBS, SWITCHES & ROUTERS

2009-12-08 Thread Luttmann, Michael W CTR USA
We started this way as well (just using ProdCats), until we decided to move
those items to the custom class.

The other replies listing caveats about discovery tools and configuration
should be kept in mind - although we do not use BMC Discovery, and our other
tools (SMS/SCCM) are only used to track client workstations. Network devices
are managed manually by our switch team (and they prefer it that way).

Like many other aspects of ITSM/CMDB, a lot depends on your local
configuration, processes, and needs.

Has anyone encountered this before? I received this error when trying to
import a custom join form.
Join forms are AST:CMDB Associations AND AST:SearchFromBase_Relationship
I'm using ARS 7.1, ITSM 7.0.02p6, CMDB 2.1 p4

The Error Messages doc only mentioned this:
"The same Log Key cannot be applied to more than one field in a schema.
Specify a unique log key for each field."

Your input is greatly appreciated.

Richard,
What is your Issue #? I had a ticket open for this but they closed it out
because at the time, I didn’t know how to reproduce. I will re-open but
possibly they can relate the issues together.

OK. Thanks. The task that won’t change is the first (and only) ad-hoc task. I

we’ll see what they suggest….

Hi Richard,

The tasks need to be activated by the parent object i.e. incident/change or any
predecessor task/task groups in a sequential flow. For incident setting the
status of "In Progress" will activate the first task or task group associated
to the incident.

There is a known issue when sometimes the task flow is broken and the tasks do
not get activated. This mainly happens when you have a cancelled task somewhere
in the middle of a sequence. The way to manually activate the task is to set
the 'State' field on the task to active. You can do this by workflow to push
this value into the relevant task from a display only form that you can create.

BMC support advised that we install ITSM patch 9 to resolve the issue when a
task does not get activated. We did install patch 9, but there were 2 major
issues that got introduced as a result of installing the patch. We got a hot
fix for one of them and the other issue is still open.

Regards,
Saby

But even though the Assignee Group field has Permission A and B, when I sign on

CMDB mapping question: dependency vs. component

2009-12-08 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
I'm mapping out a few "critical systems" in my CMDB and wanted some input.

Remedy System: BMC_ApplicaitonSystem
Rem001 Server: BMC_ComputerSystem - Component of Remedy System
SQL0001 Server: BMC_ComputerSystem - Component of Remedy System (or is this a
Dependency??)
ARSystem database: BMC_Database - Component of Remedy System
Exchange Server: BMC_ComputerSystem - Dependency of Remedy System
DomainController: BMC_ComputerSystem - Dependency of Remedy System

Does this make sense? Or am I mapping it all wrong? Also what is a good naming
convention for relationships: RemSysComp01, RemSysDepen01??

I am doing this manually because I do not know how/where to mass relate these
items. I have about 2000 CIs in Computer systems form.

Specs:
CMDB: 2.1.00
ARS: 7.1.00
ITSM 7.0.03

Thanks,,

Re: CMDB mapping question: dependency vs. component

2009-12-08 Thread Pierson, Shawn
Marcelo,

I hope this image of my layout helps. Basically, I think you are using the
correct classes, but I don't know that I would put everything you are putting
there. For example, do you really need to list the Exchange Server and Domain
Controller? They are sort of implied, and you may not want to list it and risk
making either the Remedy view or the Domain Controller's views too full.

Also, if you look at my layout, I built dependencies between the Remedy
Application with the database, and the database with the SQL Server, but I did
not relate the Remedy Application with the DB Server.

Thanks,

Shawn Pierson

Re: CMDB mapping question: dependency vs. component

2009-12-08 Thread Martinez, Marcelo A
Shawn,
Thanks for the image. It helps!
The reason I (or better said - my boss) wants to include the exchange server
and DC is because IF the DC or Exch servers was to be rebooted, this way would
list all the "application systems" that the reboot is affecting.. But I do see
what you mean, the view can get obnoxiously full.

As far as the DB server and database, your example makes sense. I need to
relate the application to the database, not necessarily to the DB server. Then
relate the database to the DB server... I'll need to run this pass the boss.

One question: what class did you use to load "Remedy Production ARSystem"? did
you use BMC_ApplicationSystem or just BMC_Application? (I think
ApplicationSystem is the superclass of Application)

Thanks again Shawn.

safest and fastest way to delete AR Email records

2009-12-08 Thread Ex Soundgarden
Hi All,

I've been wandering around searching for some tips on how to delete 3 million
records sitting in AR System Email Messages form. What I''m doing right now is
just doing it by batch - deleting 10,000 records every now and then. From the
past, I remember doing it directly in the database by re-creating the Email
Messages table (which eventually dropped all the records). I had no problem
with this.

I just want to know if there are other ways to delete the records without going
directly to the db?

Thanks,
Gabud

Best to set up an escalation that fires periodically. Decide if you want to
keep any for historic searches. We keep a month or so. Once you decide then set
up the escalation to remove batches of them. Set the run if to do small groups
so you don't impact the server. After you get caught up have the escalation run
based on some thing like Create Date <= $TIMESTAMP$ - (30 * 24 * 60 * 60) which
will delete anything created greater than 30 days ago.

Look into the sql 'truncate table' to empty it initially. David has posted
what you need for the ongoing maintenance of the data. While doing the
initial delete, you probably want to look at the email error logs form, the
email attachments form, and all the other email forms.

2009-12-08 Thread Kali Obsum
Ah I see. Is this safe? Coz it seems like a lot of people are saying
that you shouldn't use the Admin tool to add fields even in the AST
forms.
For example, for CMDB 2.x, they say you should use SHR:SchemaName form
(open with CMDB2Asset view).

If you've added a few fields the quickest and easiest method is to just
open the AST form in the Admin tool and add the fields to the join. The
cmdb2asset utility is more useful when creating a brand new class.

We are using CMDB 1.1, and we added some new fields in the

I've been reading about needing to use cmdb2asset utility to do

Oh …
You are wanting to load the file on the system into an attachment field. I
think this should work as a template for you to work with…

my $remedyForm_Name = "MyTestForm";

my $entry_id = "001";

my %remedyForm = ars_GetFieldTable($Ctrl, $remedyForm_Name);

my $fid=$remedyForm{'Attachment Field'};

my $result = ars_SetEntry($Ctrl, $remedyForm_Name, $entry_id, 0,

   7, 1,

   $fid, { file => "/tmp/test", size
=> 0 } );

Alternately
you can push the physical file name into a Display Only Field on your form and
use a filter to set the Attachment Field ( in the example below it is 536870923
)

In a
Set Fields Action set a field’s value equal to: $PROCESS$
PERFORM-ACTION-ADD-ATTACHMENT 536870923 "$zTemp Attachment File
Name$"

Yes you
can use the ARSPerl module to Log In to Remedy and submit the data. You
could also use arimportcmd to do the load.

You
could monitor the folder with a cron job that runs periodically to look for a
file in the directory and if it exists then process it.

I'm kind confussed about one requirement. I need to load a CSV file on a UNIX

At this point I really don't know if with arsperl could i upload the file to

I have the form where i need to store the file, but i have no idea on how
could i load this file, probably i'll need an escalation to monitor a folder on
the unix server, but i don't know how to upload the file.

Any ideas?

SV: CMDB mapping question: dependency vs. component

2009-12-08 Thread Petrus Johansson
Rather than having a dependency relationship between the DC and the
RemedySystem I would suggest doing an Impact Relationship between the DC and
the actual domain. That way you (your boss) would see all impacted application
systems being hosted on a computer system of that domain affected by a
potential reboot of the DC

Shawn,
Thanks for the image.

SV: CI TYPE FOR HUBS, SWITCHES & ROUTERS

2009-12-08 Thread Petrus Johansson
I second that and the response before...
Rather than creating a custom CICLass for the routers, switches and hubs, use
BMCComputerSystem class and use the PrimaryCapability to determine what type of
ComputerSystem it is.
I have created a Tier1 in the ProdCat named "Network" for all different network
types of CIs... Working in Asset Mgmt the end users don´t care or should have
to know what CIClass the CIs are stored in. You use CTI or "Find" to look for
the CIs... Keep in mind that the CDM is complex enough as it is - only add a
Class if you REALLY have to.

Whereas there is nothing wrong with this solution if it suits the business
you should be aware that discovery tools will put all switchers, hubs,
etc in the Computer System class.

If you plan to use discovery in the future then you may be prevented from
using the out-of-the-box discovery interfaces.
