HBSS for DOD is McAfee EPO should have integration points.. Start there.. then check with BMC docs for a integration. Re: Linking HBSS and Remedy.
HBSS events normally go to the Enterprise console like McAfee, CounterACT, RSA Archer, etc.. The console then communicats to the Remedy system via some plugin (theirs not BMC normally) and injects the ticket. SIEM also would be another example with BEM/SIM / Patrol, etc.. Vendor specific.. Sometimes BMC does have the connector as well.. Re: Reporting question
As far as I know and seen, Variables (Popped up) is not possible. the only way is the choose field, =; value in the form under the report console. you can create "pre configured reports" and put them out there on the console as a menu. There are ways to give them prebuilt Query's in the form as well, which might help. On Tue, Mar 17, 2015 at 12:14 PM, Warren R. Re: MSSQL server name / Instance name issue
I have tried host, host\named instancehost\named instance:0,porthost\named instance, port host then instance name going insane.. I can login with ssms, and I can query db no problem but the login is as hostname(or IP)\named instance, port name-W12-SQL-1\REMEDY,1435 8.1.01 does not like it with or without port (cause port is in the line below)... I actually built a server (8 of them) and after installation we had to change the ar.conf to hostname, port or they would not run.. I think someone at the Engineering area missed a step... but this was for a SQL Cluster.. it would let you install, but not bounce..now this one will not let me install.. Re: MSSQL server name / Instance name issue
Lets start with the environment: When logging into MSSQL server management studio I use the following settings. Servername : name-w12-sql-1\remedy instance name : remedy with sa password and Voila.. no problems. if I view connection properties it says: Server name:: name-w12-sql-1/remedy,1435 instance name:: remedy With 2012 sql server you can create seperate instances within itself. hope that makes sense. but if I take the slash out and put it into the instance name it fails as well. DB Information: Hostname or IP :: Hostname IP instance name : blank --- invalid instance if Hostname or IP :: Hostname IP instance name : remedy is says "Instance name remedy is not validfor host ip/port " "Detected the sql server instance name-w12-sql-1\remedy for the host ip /port 1435 " It tells you what it should be but cannot accept it.. QQ: MSSQL server name / Instance name issue
I am sure I am just missing the obvious today.. Win: 2012 - connecting to an instance of the 2012 sql server Servername :: NAME-W12-SQL-1\REMEDY,1435(mssql connection settings) Instance name :: remedy SA password it says:: - The instance name *REMEDY *is not valid for the host *NAME-w12-sql-1* / port *1435* -Detected the SQLServer instance *NAME-W12-SQL-1\ REMEDY* for the host *dtg-w12-sql-1* / port *1435* *So I put in the following::* hostname NAME-W12-SQL-1\REMEDY Instance name : remedy System installer says: - he installer is unable to resolve NAME-w12-sql-1\REMEDY into an IP address.Clients cannot communicate to the Server unless they can resolve into an IP address If I put in the IP address \ REMEDY is says same thing. I know it is something silly, it must be the fly on my nose (too close). if I put in NAME-W12-SQL-1 (it says it should be the above) do I need to create some sort of Alias? like in the /etc/hosts? or registry? for it to get accepted. -- Patrick Zandi ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org "Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years"

issue with mssql connections
ENV 2008 r2 64 bit server Server is VM with ARS 8.1.01.001 actively running fine against a MSSQL cluster. All of a sudden all systems stopped working so we tried a fresh install, and now (after if was working for months) a bug/error where during the install it creates the instance on the cluster using a unique port 700 lets say, and then it restarts the ARS application and starts connecting to 1433 ? What in the World --- support is almost non resistant. I opened a Critical ticket but is is being thrown under the bus. Any Idea's Question: BMC Does not even reference using the mssql client... and is there a way to tell the application to use the client, just wondering. -- Patrick Zandi ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org "Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years"

8.1.01.001 Patches -- Issue
Ran into a issue this week and here is the problem and resolution Problem :: ARS 8.1.01 -- attempting to apply ARS patch 001 and it will not work.. it says no product selected and fails. It worked on another system... The P001 SRM, and Atrium did work... however Solution:: ENV variable not in system -- BMC_AR_SYSTEM_HOME = PATH-TO-ARSYSTEM folder Patch runs... Potential Fix action if this does not work:: Copy ARSystemInstalledConfiguration.xml file from a working server and replace same file on the non-working server. Modify the file with the correct server name entries. Rerun the installation. -- Patrick Zandi ___ UNSUBSCRIBE or access ARSlist Archives at www.arslist.org "Where the Answers Are, and have been for 20 years"

Re: BMC Remedy and Flash
Joe help me understand the downtime with a server group scenario. If you have 3 web servers (which can rotate each out and be patched, os and application wise - then rotated back in), and have 3 Servers is a server group (which again be pulled patched, upgraded, OS patched and put back into group) one at a time.. All the servers in the group are connected to the SQL Cluster / oracle RAC .. I still see no outages, vice a bomb or something physical/network related. DR is the fail over to a completely redundant system in a different location, where either data replication was going on, or the DSO was turned to active to a live system, which is the case of the bomb/tornado/911 instance. Re: [EXTERNAL] reporting methods for ARS 8.1
EXACTLY !!! BMC will fall if people cannot use reporting products that are security compliant, and people have to create their own reporting solutions. Here at HP we are actually creating all the Query's the BOA server does but more efficiently: unfortunately it is hand jammed, and not easily configurable. -- We have customers who want these auto web based reporting but BMC cannot keep up "Engineering" wise with SAP (which is a sad discussion in general), and then give us BIRT 2.5 version -- with no upward direction or "Engineering" again. If they are worried about money and cost of the Engineering then soon they will not have to worry about the money at all. Security is Paramount, Reporting is for those Bean counters.. and Bean counters come up with the cash. Great discussion.. thanks for the updates.. By the Way.. what is the deal with spoon? There are 4 strategies for reporting : CR, BOA, Birt, Adhoc that I know of - an yes I could create my own with a UT Custom. Of those it appears most are old and or have security issues - old java:: business objects xi 3.1 crystal reports 2011 -- Requires 2008 Max 32 bit only, and is old and some newer JAVA versions do not run with it (which makes it insecure) and at some places they will not allow it to run - due to security risk (it is really old) Analytics: while the 7.6.04 version and 8.0 version can be installed you can only us certain versions of JAVA and some of those are EOL -- or you pay for extended support. you cannot run dynamic reports either, from the mid-tier it is a on demand version (login to web client or login to server and use thick client). You can email and post to sharepoint on a timed basis. Birt is using version 2.5 (but newer versions 4.5? I think is out) but BMC is only compatible with 2.5 Adhoc: yup just a bunch of data points. BMC : appears weak for either integration or continued reporting with models that are forward looking and security conscience. CR 2013 is out but cannot use it. Re: BO and Analytics
I believe they do the same things, however it is who is using the application that makes the diff... ANA is basically analytical reporting -- it can email and post to sharepoint reports.. as well. (nice feature).. ARS 8.1 can also do the Adhoc, and Bert reports by time as well.. CR is for reporting with pretty formats.. etc Like ANA but does not email or sharepoint them. Also CR can be used on the web for web based reporting as well. There are alot of minor differences, but with CR developer you can also just create an RPT and plop it into the report form and anyone can use it with the usertool.. Crystal reports viewer application (desktop app) can use it too... just depends who and for what are you using it. you mean do comparisons and delta's between to differing types of systems... not that I know of. (I might be wrong, but I cannot remember seeing that). but you could import the CSV file to a form inside remedy ARS and then do any reporting system can do that. -- just a thought.. Perl script runs == but not under a run process
We suddenly are getting an error never seen before.. this is a long standing peice of code that suddenly for some strange reason started failing. Run process /folder/file.pl "xx" "yy" Perl script runs fine, however the system ARS 7.1 does not appear to run it anymore. we added to the filter a command line of date >> before.txt date >> after.txt before and after dot txt show up.. so we know the filter should have executed the perl script. The perl script does an import into the system a .xls file into the arssystem Remember the perscript works and has not changed. I had a thought.. this might be a time to do a server group... Build a fresh box -- 64bit, add as a server group Rebuild Original box -- add back in to server group. Make one the Admin / integration / Reconcil server the other main customer -- no outages, and now you have redundancy / failover Just a thought.
