What kind of input? I just installed and deployed it with a customer in the

Looking for Remedy Admin position

2017-12-11 Thread Dave Shellman
Earlier this year, TE Connectivity decided to outsource the Global IT
group. After 20 years I am in the process of looking for a new employer.

I spent my first 15 years at TE working with the Remedy Action Request
System building custom applications. Tasks performed included day to day
maintenance of ARS on Solaris servers, rebuilding a custom helpdesk
application to use enhanced filters and active links while removing
dependencies on ARS perl, moving ARS from Solaris servers to Windows
servers, ARS upgrades, and license monitoring. Also included was general
troubleshooting to understand bugs introduced with new versions of ARS,
bugs coded in the workflow, and performance related issues with the Oracle
engine. Custom applications included:

   - Expanding US centric Helpdesk to perform in a global setting
   - Creation of an Equipment List and integration with external data
   sources
   - Creation of workflow to monitor Fixed/Floating license usage and
reduce system costs with appropriate license allocation
   - Creation of custom email reports using HTML tables
   - Replacing an Access based Telecommunication Charge back system with
   ARS workflow
   - Processes to validate and load Telecommunication charges from
different vendors using digitl files into the charge back system
   - Creation of health check for out/in bound email. Used to monitor
health of ARS email engine as well as email servers

The last 5 years at TE, I worked with proxy servers and Aternity End User
Experience software. Internet access issues and application performance
issues expanded my experience and knowledge of networks. In the process of
addressing issues we would need to troubleshoot everything from the client
to the destination server including DNS, routing, and firewall as well as
proxy rules. Troubleshooting techniques including log file analysis and
data capture using tools such as WireShark and HTTPWatch.

Please contact me off list for additional information concerning positions
you may have available.

Thank you

2017-01-20 Thread Jason Miller
Hi John (and other people that might want to post job openings),

I just wanted to send a quick note. Job postings are welcome however I
would like to mention the ARSlist is primarily made up of people that work
with the BMC Remedy line of products. While "BMC" is in the product name,
and we do have people on the List that work with multiple BMC product
families, the ARSlist typically is not the best forum to post job openings
for BMC products such as Bladelogic, TrueSight, Control-M, etc.

Also if you would be so kind, we have a convention of prefixing "JOB:" to
the beginning of the subject. This allows the people looking for a job to
hone in on those posts and the people not looking for a job to overlook
those them.

Thanks!

Looking for a Position

2016-01-28 Thread David Charters
Listers,

Sorry if this is redundant, but I like to keep things fresh when I can. I am
still open and looking for a Contract or FTE position. I am highly proficient
in ITSM, CMDB, ADDM, SLM, and Analytics to ARS 9.1 with special focus on CMDB
and in the older systems AIE. I am willing to travel for the right contract, I
am also open to relocation for the right opportunity. I work very well in both
Windows and Unix environments and in both Oracle and MSSQL. Please contact me
off list if you think I might of service to you, and I will gladly send you my
resume.

Thank You,

Charters is looking for a contract or FTE

2016-01-20 Thread David Charters
All,

My last contract literally dropped after the first of the year due to a
shocking budget cut. If the rate is right I am happy to travel, I am also very
good at working remote and staying on task when doing so.
I am proficient in Remedy all the way to 9.1 of course and ITSM/CMDB all the
way to 9.1. I am also proficient with ADDM and Analytics (SAP and Analytics
bolt on.)
I've just been off the list for a while, but I've been doing this close to 20
years now. Please contact me offline if you can use my consulting services or
know of anyone who might.

Thank You,

ADM:AD: Looking for ARSlist Sponsor(s)

2015-10-14 Thread arslist
That time has come again, where there is funding needed for the care and
feeding of the ARSlist Server(s), licensed software, bandwidth, electrical
food, that sort of thing.

My hope is that one or more companies will see sufficient value in being
mentioned on the list and the web site to keep this going.

If you are interested, and probably in the sponsorship details, please
contact me direct at daniel.bl...@danielbloom.ca

Whilst WWRUG has been supporting the list, there is no longer any activity
to support WWRUG, and I really never planned to spend as much of my personal
funds as I have been.

I don't like the paypal donation concept as I don't feel that really gets
those that get the greatest value from the list to pay anything.

I am hoping that companies that value an uncensored unrestricted discussion
group that reaches a major portion of the BMC Remedy installed base will be
interested.

For less than the cost of a booth at BMC:Engage you can get kudos and
visibility year round!

Thanks Dan

Re: Looking for a document

2015-03-19 Thread Mueller, Doug
Gordon,

The full mapping of all the metadata tables and their interrelationships and
how all data tables were created and named and all the syntax around these used
to be contained in the Database Reference manual.

I did a quick look at the on-line documentation and it does not seem to have
been moved to the on-line documentation.

But, Danny is right, there are .sql files for each DB that are put on the
system (and left there) after install. They contain the exact SQL that is run
for your installation (because that is the file we run the commands from during
installation). This is the raw SQL. You have to see what all tables are there
and follow the keys to related tables.

Or, you could get a Database Reference manual from an older version and get the
model and then use the .sql file to see if any details have changed. The
overall metadata model has not changed and any update to it is additive so a
picture from an older version is still accurate for the main forms and fields
and interaction -- only new attributes or new constructs are missing.

Senior Process/Tool Veteran looking around

2014-07-30 Thread Ray Gellenbeck
It's been enjoyable the last few years, but I'm starting to feel pidgeon-holed
into being a tool customizer instead of a Senior Lead, so I'm making myself
open to new opportunities abroad. I'd prefer to remain in the San Diego area
or work-from-home openings. Contract (with proper TE) or FTE is fine.

I'm a US citizen with a Secret clearance (unsponsored for several years now)
but have also lived in Asia, especially Singapore, the Philippines and
Thailand. I have very basic tagalog, mandarin and my current home had a basic
japanese class, but I don't claim to be proficient in any of them. I'd say I'm
very comfortable living and operating in APAC as needed and know enough of
various social customs and do's-and-don'ts to do business there and manage
people there as needed.

I've been working with Remedy since v3, lead deployment/customization teams and
lead development of various integrations and customizations with a lot of
experience in prototyping and example-based requirements gathering and
formalization (both for tools and for the processes they support).

My latest effort has been process improvement and building a customized front
ends to avoid using the tired ITSM forms (sorry BMC) and some specialized apps
completely outside of ITSM for an international gaming and electronics company.
Comfortable with on-prem systems or Remedy OnDemand. Experience with ADDM
(and CMDB syncs to it and all the nightmares that come with it) through 9
(looking at adding 10 soon to evaluate before migrating).

Bah, if you want to know more, just hit my LinkedIn, ok? I'm not chompin' at
the bit, just putting my name out there. I'd rather wait for a great fit with
a group that needs a seasoned ITSM SME with a direct plain-speaker who will
point out the pitfalls along the way but ultimately deliver what the custom
wants.

Yeah, on the phone with Yahoo support now trying to get my account back. I
don't use it so I never notice when they've been hacked again (hence why i quit
using them). Last time I used a complex password generator, so it wasn't just
a brute force attack.

Re: ARERR 90: Looking for dummy.host.com

2014-05-07 Thread Jarl Grøneng
Hi

Try adding your domain name to the Domain-Name option in ar.conf/ar.cfg.

---
Domain-Name

New domain name portion of the fully qualified server name. By default, a
server determines the domain name from the network interface. In rare
cases, this method does not produce the desired result because of
unexpected network card configurations. In those cases, you an use this
option to override the domain name derived from the network interface.

Re: ARERR 90: Looking for dummy.host.com

2014-05-07 Thread Andrew Hicox
I've seen definitions get fouled like this due to a bug in older versions
of dev studio.

Export the report creator form + all related objects to a def or XML file.
Grep for dummy.host.com.

If you find it, that's probably what happened.

From there, you should be able to figure out which objects are affected and
try to fix them in dev studio (or if you'readventurous text search/replace
in the def file an re-import).

Re: ARERR 90: Looking for dummy.host.com

2014-05-07 Thread D Dussie
Thank Andy,

I was unable to export the ReportCreator to xml, kept getting dev studio
error:Failed to export to the file. ERROR (110): Incorrect data type value for
this parameter.; ReportCreator, 5190, .

So, Tried .def, there was no entry for dummy, except for Active link
(ReportCreator:GetExpressionIDs1-6), help text Convert the statistical
expression from the user format to an internal format. There is some extra
logic needed to convert the expression into a qualification. This is needed as
the operations to parse the command can only operate on qualifications. So, a
dummy left-hand side is added, the parsing is performed, and then the extra
operation is removed.

So, I compared the the server reportvendor.def to the export. Since they where
the same, reimported the reportvendor.def remove dummy.host.com from
etc/host. So far that is working.

will see. Last resort, put back dummy in etc/host

Looking for a programmatic way to copy foundation data from 7.6.4 system to a POC 8.1 system

2014-05-01 Thread Richter, Howard (CEI - Atlanta)
Happy Thursday All,

I am trying to build out a POC 8.1 system, before our upgrade with just our
foundation (and CI) data.

I know I can just start to export all of the forms to spreadsheets and use the
DMT. But I wondered if I could use the rrrchive tool and automate the process
(since this might need to be repeated).

So I need to ask:

1. Has anyone done it with rrrchive or something similar (and free).

2. If so how (that is what forms should be exported/imported using rrrchive
for example)?

As always thanks,

Howard

You need to want to learn the company processes throughout all departments,
work with all departments to define and implement enhancements, to insure
all enhancements interact with already existing workflow, and to be able to
guide the request process to the best solution. The Remedy system is used
by every department.

Good morning, afternoon and evening all,

As BMC releases new version, they seem to delay the release of the
compatibility of the integrations until the version is released. Which causes
issues when planning upgrades in the near future.

We are planning on upgrading our BPPM from 9.0 to 9.5 early next year, however,
I am trying to see if we need to upgrade our 7.6.4 ITSM to 8.x for the BPPM
integration.

So if anyone has any insight on if BPPM 9.5 integration is compatible with ITSM
7.6.4, can you please let me know.

Thanks,

Howard

The latest IBRSD integration included the ability to not just create an Incident for the failed CIit also allowed the ability to relatethe CI by using the SIM capability in BPPM. It also allows the ability to use SIM logic to create a related Incident that would be for the Service being affected by the original failed CI.

The integration was not release specific after the original design for ITSM 7.6.03/04.

OK, I know this is a newbie question, but I was playing around with the 7.6.4

Real Time to add in filtering in the groups that a user is member of.

What I know so far is that its using flashboards, the Flashboard and variable

OOB one by company.

Since I have not done some real coding for a few years, I was looking for a

time, and I'm now preparing to start a new gig where I'll be working with ITSM
for the first time. I've gotten rather lucky in that the shop I'll be working
for has both custom development work (which I should be able to step right
into), and also an ITSM system that I'll be getting up to speed on, and doing
quite a bit of learning about.

I don't expect I'll become an expert overnight. ITSM is deeper than the mind
of Minolta, no doubt. However I'd like to do a bit of homework before I start
the new job, so that I have a good foundation to begin from.

For the last three weeks it feels like I've been completely spinning my
wheels. Though I've finally managed to get a proper 8.1 install over Oracle
set up on some Linux VMs, the online documentation for 8.1. is basically
rubbish. I'm sorry to say it, but after really giving it everything I've got,
trying to make heads or tails of it for three weeks now … the 8.1 ITSM online
documentation really is like someone took a pile of half written design
documents and put them through a blender, then slapped 'em on the internet and
said DONE!.

What I'd give at this point for a nice set of PDFs like those that come with
the arserver install … (PDF exports of the mess on the internet do not count).

Well … I was ready to give up, then out of desperation, I began typing my
questions into Google, and LO and BEHOLD … PDF's EXIST, but only for the
7.6.04 version (well ok … it's better than nothing -- which is precisely what
the online documentation is, at least to someone coming from my perspective).
After further investigation, I determined these PDFs were for all intents and
purposes deeply hidden in the help file downloads for each ITSM component. It
took me all darn day … I had to download like 10 or 15 GB of data off the
support site, write a perl script to spider through, find all the PDFs, MD5
them and expunge the duplicates, but I finally managed to get a set of ITSM
documentation together (per the list of 'related documents' at the top of the
BMC Remedy IT Service Management Concepts Guide).

Well … mostly complete. I still can't find these, and I'm wondering if anyone
can help me or point me to where they might be:

    * Remedy BMC ITSM Configuration Quick Start
    * BMC BladeLogic Client Automation Configuration Discovery Integration for
CMDB Getting Started Guide
    * BMC BladeLogic Client Automation CMS Tuner User Guide
    * BMC Service Management Process Model Best Practice Flows
    * BMC Service Management Process Model Role Mapping to BMC Remedy ITSM
Suite

Again … I've found the rest, though to be frank even the PDFs (though 1x
better than the online documentation) tend to be rather impenetrable as
well. I've got about 2.5 weeks left to get my learn-on. I'd like to be able to
do the following before I start my new gig:

1) set up a new company via the Application Administration form, and actually
*know* what all the steps mean -- it seems like there should be some sort of
walk through doc that tells you for instance, what the specific significance
of support group role is, but damned if I can find it so far.

2) set up a minimal group of fake users required to walk various ticket types
through a lifecycle (Incidents and Change Requests minimally). Not unlike the
Calbro demo data, but I want to set this up myself for my fake company from
step 1so I can genuinely understand what's going on.

3) enter some fake CI's into the CMDB for my fake company. My first thought
was setup ADDM and let it scan my home network and put in whatever it finds.
After looking at the complexity of ADDM, my second thought is there must be a
way to feed in a CSV file or something

If anyone out there in Remedy-land has any resources in mind that could help
me on my way, I'd much appreciate links and hints,

thanks everyone,

Re: ITSM n00b looking for documentation and/or (free) learning resources

Thanks! I'd found both the youtube channel and docs.bmc.com already.

The youtube channel is especially useful if you're reading through the 8.1.
online documentation which will say something like the following video
explains … followed by whitespace where the video is supposed to be (this
happens a LOT). Sometimes you can go looking on the youtube channel and find
the video they were talking about (well I mean maybe -- in the end you can't be
completely sure it's the same video the docs were alluding to, but most of the
time I've been able to find what seems to be the missing piece).

docs.bmc.com … well … I've not had a lot of luck with the search function so
far. I'd spent some time looking for a hierarchal directory on that site, so I
could perhaps have a better shot at finding what I'm looking for the old
fashioned way … and I might be missing it, but I can't seem to find one.

In any case, much thanks for the pointers.

Still haven't found my missing PDFs … in particular, the BMC Remedy ITSM
Configuration Quick Start seems to have a promising title … though I fear if I
find it, that it'll be along the lines of the CMDB quick start card which is
… pretty laughable Step 1: install it! Step 2: put your data in! step 3:
PROFITABILITY! … LOL.

I'm working my way now through the Remedy IT Service Management Administration
Guide which is actually answering a lot of my questions (though in an odd
order).

I've searched Amazon quite thoroughly, and unless I'm missing it, nobody seems
to have written a book about BMC ITSM. Which is kind of astounding given it's
complexity. Seems like a golden opportunity for some technically minded author
out there to write BMC ITSM Demystified or the like :-)

I am looking for a My SQL developer for a 6 month project in the Washington,

Looking for a few good partners/customers to try out AR System / CMDB Java

2012-12-14 Thread Easter, David
Hi All,

At WWRUG12, we announced that we're looking for a few energetic customers or
partners to help us test the final move of AR System from a C++ based system to
a Java based system. A few enthusiastic folks signed up, but recently some of
them have been forced to leave the program. The good news is that their loss
is your gain! We're re-opening this exclusive program to 3-5 additional
participants who want bragging rights of being involved from day one.

So why are we converting the server itself to Java? A few good reasons:

- More intimate integration into environments like J2EE and SOA
- Streamlined constructs to dramatically decrease development time
- Broader ability to leverage industry standard, off the shelf tools
- Quick response to changing customer and market demands for new
capabilities

This Early Access Program (EAP) was created to make this next generation Java
based server and CMDB available to trusted partners and customers for initial
testing and feedback in medium-to-large real world customer environments.
Server-J/CMDB-J (as the programs are called internally) are being designed to
be 100% backwards compatible with applications that currently run on AR System
7.6.04 / CMDB 7.6.04 or later. BMC would like your assistance in ensuring that
this is confirmed prior to release.

We're looking for customers or partners that have a development environment
that mimics a medium-to-large ITSM/CMDB deployment. A combination of BMC
provided applications and custom (bespoke) applications is a plus. The
general idea will be to load your existing environment on top of Server-J /
CMDB-J (or upgrade to it) and confirm that everything continues to work as
expected. As an added bonus, once you're in the EAP program, you're
automatically eligible to participate in the 2013 beta programs where
additional features/functionality will be added to Server-J / CMDB-J!

This next phase of the program will kick-off in early January and run for
several months.

Why would you want to join?
[cid:image001.png@01CDDA12.88610AA0] You get to see it first
[cid:image001.png@01CDDA12.88610AA0] You get to interact closely with BMC RD
[cid:image001.png@01CDDA12.88610AA0] You get to provide pre-emptive feedback
and directly influence future development

In general, we expect that participants will spend one hour every two weeks
on a scheduled conference call and 2-3 hours a week testing the product itself
in a development environment. We are also considering the option of sending
BMC employees to your site to discuss the testing in person and assist with
execution of test cases.

If you are interested in tossing your name into the hat for consideration,
please fill out the following survey:

We've been using CRExport for years and have even developed a Remedy App around

Hi,
you can look into this site:

The site list a comparison of tools, some free, for running, viewing,

Hope this helps.

Happy Friday to all,

I have a request to find a cheap way to run the BMC provided OOB crystal
reports that came with 7.6.4.

Since we use Hyperion for reporting, we do not need to create any new crystal
reports and are not looking to print them. Just run them and save off the file.

So I am looking for a cheap way of getting around the requirement to buy and
then build a crystal server.

Too bad that we can't use the user tool in ITSM 7.6.4.

Any ideas?

Hi Howard!

We've been using CRExport for years and have even developed a Remedy App around
it that schedules reports to be run and uses an escalation to kick off the
reports and optionally mail them out in .pdf attachments to users using the AR
Email engine.

See http://www.rainforestnet.com/crystal-reports-exporter/

Howard,
I know not of what sort of difficulty I speak when I say thisso please take
it with a grain of salt as either complete lunacy or a doable solution,
depending on your personal and team capabilities.

Now...when we look at the fact that the user tool can utilize these reports yet
the web can'tlet's analyze the 'why' of that. The native client has access
to the Crystal Reports runtime engine, where the Mid-Tier does not. This tells
that in order to run/print the reports, you do NOT need to purchase the crystal
reports server...you simply need to be able to interact with the CR runtime.
Sothis is my proposal, and it is off the top of my head with completely 0
research as to its feasibility. Write yourself either a C or a Java
application that can do two things.

1 - Log into the Remedy server to get at the report
2 - Interact with the CR runtime (this is the part that I have NO clue about)

Once written, this application should be able to be called with a button press,
or an escalation, or whatever manner you chose, and it should be able to log
on, get the report in question, process the data in Remedy through the report,
and provide the output in any manner that you deem desirable.

I know, I knoweasier said than done...but certainly in the feasible
realmin fact, a quick google on 'crystal reports runtime java' came up with
an article as the first entry

http://j-integra.intrinsyc.com/support/com/doc/other_examples/Crystal_Reports.htm

that describes a VERY simple java program that executes a report. It uses a
DSN to connect...which could obviously be setup with the Remedy ODBC as the
data sourceif I'm not mistaken the 'query' is also readily accessible as
well

I see this as a VERY doable solution to being able to run the reports from
server command line, and even mail the darn things out :)

It's a grain of salt (and I need to avoid that), but it might just fly.

The odd thing, is when I use one of the reports in the user tool on my 7.6.1

the 7.6.4 system, it does not display any data and I can find the data by
doing a simple search.

Thanks this idea is something worth looking into.

Re: Looking for a cheap way to run OOB crystal reports in 7.6.4

2012-07-06 Thread Easter, David
Another option is to utilize the OOTB web reports provided with ITSM 7.6.04.
Those reports were created to duplicate the most commonly utilized Crystal
reports found in previous releases. Using the OOTB web reports requires no
additional infrastructure, works on the web client and comes at no additional
cost. Using the web reports therefore gets around the requirement to buy
and build a crystal server. It allows you to run the reports and save off the
file into a variety of formats.

Re: Looking for a cheap way to run OOB crystal reports in 7.6.4

2012-07-06 Thread Howard Richter
David,

I am glad you popped into this.

The reason for the request is due to the reports that are OOB and were
created for crystal reports. I have asked support for a list of the reports
not converted and only received a list of the Web reports, but not one that
shows what reports were not converted.

So I have been asked to find some way so we can run the OOB Crystal reports
included with ITSM 7.6.4 and not converted (or might be) to a Web report.

Our goal is to use the new OOB reporting tool, however, the example Crystal
reports supplied by BMC are reason for this request.

Thanks and take care,

Howard

**

Another option is to utilize the OOTB web reports provided with ITSM 7.6.04.
Those reports were created to duplicate the most commonly utilized Crystal
reports found in previous releases. Using the OOTB web reports requires no
additional infrastructure, works on the web client and comes at no
additional cost. Using the web reports therefore gets around the
requirement to buy and build a crystal server. It allows you to run the
reports and save off the file into a variety of formats.

Happy Friday to all,

I have a request to find a cheap way to run the BMC provided OOB crystal
reports that came with 7.6.4.

Since we use Hyperion for reporting, we do not need to create any new
crystal reports and are not looking to print them. Just run them and save
off the file.

So I am looking for a cheap way of getting around the requirement to buy and
then build a crystal server.

Too bad that we can't use the user tool in ITSM 7.6.4.

Any ideas?

It's a grain of salt (and I need to avoid that), but it might just fly.

The odd thing, is when I use one of the reports in the user tool on my 7.6.1
system it works. But when I use the same report (also on the user tool) in
the 7.6.4 system, it does not display any data and I can find the data by
doing a simple search.

Thanks this idea is something worth looking into.

Howard,
I know not of what sort of difficulty I speak when I say thisso please
take it with a grain of salt as either complete lunacy or a doable solution,
depending on your personal and team capabilities.

Now...when we look at the fact that the user tool can utilize these reports
yet the web can'tlet's analyze the 'why' of that. The native client has
access to the Crystal Reports runtime engine, where the Mid-Tier does not.
This tells that in order to run/print the reports, you do NOT need to
purchase the crystal reports server...you simply need to be able to interact
with the CR runtime. Sothis is my proposal, and it is off the top of my
head with completely 0 research as to its feasibility. Write yourself
either a C or a Java application that can do two things.

1 - Log into the Remedy server to get at the report
2 - Interact with the CR runtime (this is the part that I have NO clue
about)

Once written, this application should be able to be called with a button
press, or an escalation, or whatever manner you chose, and it should be able
to log on, get the report in question, process the data in Remedy through
the report, and provide the output in any manner that you deem desirable.

I know, I knoweasier said than done...but certainly in the feasible
realmin fact, a quick google on 'crystal reports runtime java' came up
with an article as the first entry

http://j-integra.intrinsyc.com/support/com/doc/other_examples/Crystal_Report
s.htm

that describes a VERY simple java program that executes a report. It uses a
DSN to connect...which could obviously be setup with the Remedy ODBC as the
data sourceif I'm not mistaken the 'query' is also readily accessible as
well

I see this as a VERY doable solution to being able to run the reports from
server command line, and even mail the darn things out :)
