Re: What's going on with TuringSMI?

2008-10-06 Thread Susan Palmer
It appears that it was NOT a false alarm. I received an unofficial call
from a TuringSMI account rep that is no longer employed, that wishes to
remain anonymous, because TuringSMI is in the process of selling their North
America Sales/Consulting services. And to top it off, my BMC rep is no
longer with BMC as of last Thursday. There seems to be some confusion
regarding the Support group.

And no one is returning calls from anywhere ... lol ... or maybe hlol ...

Well, if it's true, and it sounds like it may well be, I would love to know
who bought it up. Who's big enough? Column? One of the Indian firms? Why
would Turing sell it all just months after buying lots of smaller firms,
unless they figured they could make more off the sale of the practice than
from the use of it?

Interesting...

2008-10-02 Thread Chapman, Gary
Wow, I was not expecting this to get heated when I first sent the question to
the list.
Thanks to everyone who has replied both on and off list, your help has been
appreciated. Unfortunately we were told point blank that we could not renew
support as BMC would not accept it via Turing SMI. However, we have since been
successful with another third party support company.

Thanks again and lets hope we can turn the heat down and all get back to being
friends.

Cheers,

Not only do I have active support with TuringSMI and we happen to be working on
a nasty Audit issue currently, I just installed licenses Monday purchased via
TuringSMI. I am VERY pleased with their support.

My BMC Account rep was partnered in the transactions which included the 10/1/08
support renewal and the license purchases with TuringSMI.

It bothers me that someone is using this list for harmful purposes and doesn't
even identify who they are. If you have something to say be a man (so to
speak) and be upfront with everyone. You may not like what I have to say but
you always know when it's me saying it.

I think prudence would call for one or more of these in future responses:

1) A response from someone who can speak for Turing.
2) Responses that are more than rumors. Rumors can cause damage to
relationships of all kinds, and it would be unfortunate if Turing's were
damaged for false reasons. If you don't have evidence to back up your
rumor, prudence would dictate keeping it to yourself.
3) Not assuming something bad about Turing unless and until evidence
appears to support those assumptions.

If it helps any, I have dealt with Turing about slightly over a year ago, for
an engagement in MD, and didn't have any payment problems with them. I got paid
as scheduled in the contract..

And I second Rick.. Lets not let rumors fly and if any of these are true let a
representative of Turing speak up for themselves.. We do not want to negatively
impact any johs of contractors or consultants who may be currently engaged with
them..

Re: What's going on with TuringSMI?

2008-10-01 Thread Matt Worsdell
Toby, that is your name right?

I'd just like to agree with Matt, I've not long left TuringSMI, the
Companies house website does show an old company prior to the Group creation
in liquidation, this happened as part of the wider consolidation of EMEA,
APAC and the expansion into the US territory some two years ago.

Yes, that is true. And then BMC and Turing modified their relationship.
This was done for various reasons and it is a more productive, positive
partnership. As Susan can attest, TSMI's Support group is still providing
support, with BMC's blessing.

Re: What's going on with TuringSMI?

2008-10-01 Thread Rick Cook
That's assuming that BMC keeps their web site up to date better than they
used to, which was practically not at all. My former consulting company had
incorrect and missing data about them on BMC's partner site for years,
despite numerous requests to update it.

I would trust nothing short of an official announcement from either BMC or
Turing, which is up to them to decide whether to publish.

2008-10-01 Thread Susan Palmer
Not only do I have active support with TuringSMI and we happen to be working
on a nasty Audit issue currently, I just installed licenses Monday purchased
via TuringSMI. I am VERY pleased with their support.

My BMC Account rep was partnered in the transactions which included the
10/1/08 support renewal and the license purchases with TuringSMI.

It bothers me that someone is using this list for harmful purposes and
doesn't even identify who they are. If you have something to say be a man
(so to speak) and be upfront with everyone. You may not like what I have to
say but you always know when it's me saying it.

My guess, based on experience, is that it may be nothing more than the
paperwork not having gone through the process yet. With October 1
(tomorrow) being the renewal date for those, this time of year often saw
things like this when I was doing pre-sales and such. Turing and BMC may
even still be in negotiation over the terms of their contract renewal, since
Turing has grown a lot since the last one was signed.

If I'm right, you should be able to try it again in a few days to a week and

And the waiver/approval thing is not new. BMC has always had stringent
rules on who can offer and use third-party support. The rules may morph
over time, but like I said, this is an unfortunately normal set of events

TuringSMI and BMC renegotiated how they deal with the $$$. BMC collects
them and doals them out to Turing. I just renewed for October 1st and
bought 2 licenses. My timing was bad since they were in the middle of

Has anyone heard any rumours of a possible fallout between TuringSMI and
BMC? We're attempting to renew support but are having a few issues.

 Cheers,

The waiver process as you call it has been in place for awhile but was a
well concealed fact. We went through it last year filing it only 2 days
before the 90 day deadline. The only reason I found out about it was that
someone on the list alerted me to the process. Even though 90 days were
allowed for it, it ran right down to the last day before being granted.

I hate to speak out of school, but BMC has changed their Support terms
for 3rd party support. As I read it, BMC will only allow 3rd party
support if they (BMC) grant a waiver for that support to the BMC
customer. It appears this is a new position as of the beginning of this
 year and waivers are few.

The reason I asked is that BMC will not accept our support renewal
 through TuringSMI for some reason.

Not sure about your question. However TuringSMI intended to purchase
EMS. We got an email about a 2 weeks ago that the deal fell through.

This past year utilizing TuringSMI support vs 12 years with Remedy/bird/BMC
support has been wonderful. Responsive and problems get resolved. I get no
compensation for that endorsement just being a happy person.

We changed a few years ago and have been with 2 different support companies
