Tax abatements are a normal part of the quid pro quo in deals like this. Do you think anyone could have gotten a deal done without tax incentives? You mean like all the buyers of the downtown condos and all the fixer up specials did? Waterfront properties needing tax incentives? Nah. Tom, Is that a fact (I am asking)? There has been talk that others were also interested (Sitar, etc.) but were pushed off by the city. One more comment. There are qualified natives of Asbury Park, some with the same, Black and White, if not equal credentials. Why are Blacks insulted that they can't do the SAME job better, but won't because of what's happening to Lou Jordan, Wilbur Russell, etc. Whenever a Black person is chosen for a administrative job here, they are second guessed to death! I personally think that the stress Wilbur Russell was under, killed him! My opinion, so don't question me to death on that! I was a witness to how he was addressed in Council Chambers, with no respect, whatsoever. That Homeowners report was taken to the FBI and who was snared first, Terry Weldon, is who. The FBI started looking into everyone's background and that's how his fraud was uncovered! He's walking around like King of the Hill, while the Blacks are either going to be carted off to jail on a trumped up conspiracy, only because a former councilwoman wore a wire and sold out her people. She is seen as a shill of the white conspiracy that makes sure any decent Black won't apply for these plum jobs that whites sit on and think they are entitled to have. It's all about 'entitlement'; they've always had it and will be damned if any one of us can do the same in a calm, professional manner. I am making a general statement and NOT putting it on anyone in particular. I see how some councilman speak to blacks and whites, have no respect for anyone, that questions them, why they sign onto deals, that virtually gives the city away, while they criticized the Blacks for thinking that they were doing right by the city, also. They're no better than the bad Black people, they replaced! The Blacks successfully had a recall, back in 96 throwing Candiano and another off the council, because they didn't know any better either! What qualifies the sitting council? They're just as green as the others that sat there and made fools of themselves, wouldn't address issues and were made to look like they were in someone's pocket! When no one downtown explains why they are doing something, what are ordinary citizens like myself, who are not on the inside or sophisticated enough to realize that this City has been SOLD down the river, to the fattest cat in town? Tommy - I checked with Vince to be sure of my facts. He offered 100c on the dollaryears before the Conn. deal went down, when the taxes were about $3 million. He made the offer prior to Weldon's time and then told Weldon when he came on, showing him all the documents. At that time, he told Weldon that using the Jones Act, which allows for discounting the tax liens,wasn't necessarily the best way to go any longer. The Jones Act was at one time the best way to go, when no one wanted to buy tax liens. But by the time Fishman andCo. came along interest rates were dropping and tax liens were a popular option, making the discounting of them unnecessary. There was actually no purpose in selling the liens to Fishman at all, at the time he was buying the land anddevelopment rights from Carrabetta, because the outstanding taxes would've had to have been cleared in order to transfer the property anddevelopment rights attached to them. Carabetta probably would've redeemedmost of theliens if they'd been sold prior to the deal in order to keep the properties from being foreclosed on him. Fishman was probably very pleasantly surprised by the whole deal. It's been an eye opener for me, too, Gary. It's like the ghost of Bradley's racism haunts us to this day. We need an exoricism! I've a theory that the predominantly white towns surrounding us resented seeing the black generations mature here, producing lawyers, judges, business leaders, academics, doctors, merchants, and civic leaders. So everytime sin city acted up, they jumped on it, rolling all the city's diversity into an unholy spector of some kind. ( In fact it seems that 'sin' is trotted out whenever one race wants to bad mouth the other.) To this day, I feel the racists among the surrounding towns - and no I'm not sayingall our neighbors are racists - don't want to see Asbury come back as an integrated city. Commander Joe Scott from Scott's T.V. Store Asbury Park he was great treated
every Veteran equal.When he past away things got a little out of Hand.Joe Scott
