Are you talking about the newspaper and it's viability or the new
building they just built?

Nevermind. The NY Post is a much better business model and when I
say business model, I mean it in the Conservative/Republican sense
of corporate welfare Think-Tankery)

http://www.journalism.org/node/6757

Murdoch originally bought this New York tabloid in 1976 from long-
time owner Dorothy Schiff, who had made it arguably the most liberal
newspaper in the country. The editorial slant shifted under Murdoch,
but ultimately his TV interests conflicted with the Post’s ownership.
FCC rules barred one company from owning a TV station and newspaper
in the same city and Murdoch had purchased local TV station WNYW. So
he sold the paper.

In 1993, with the Post apparently on the brink of shutting down,
Murdoch offered to buy it back if the FCC granted him a waiver.
Several New York politicians fought for Murdoch, including then
Governor Mario Cuomo who was often skewered on its editorial pages. A
frothy mix of gossip, grit, and conservative ideology, the paper,
with a current circulation of about 690,000 is estimated to lose
millions each year, so many that it seems unlikely most publicly
traded corporations would justify sustaining it. (A 2005 Business
Week story put that number between $15 and $30 million a year.) It is
the one U.S. daily Murdoch currently owns.

Ahem.

Times Co. to borrow against building
 By Richard Pérez-Peña Published: December 8, 2008

The New York Times Company plans to borrow up to $225 million
against its mid-Manhattan headquarters building, to ease a potential
cash flow squeeze as the company grapples with tighter credit and
 shrinking profits.

The company has retained Cushman Wakefield, the real estate firm,
to act as its agent to secure financing, either in the form of a
mortgage or a sale-leaseback arrangement, said James Follo, the
 Times Company's chief financial officer.

The Times Company owns 58 percent of the 52-story, 1.5 million-
square-foot tower on Eighth Avenue, which was designed by the
architect Renzo Piano, and completed last year. The developer Forest
City Ratner owns the rest of the building. The Times Company's
portion of the building is not currently mortgaged, and some
investors have complained that the company has too much of its

The company has two revolving lines of credit, each with a ceiling

One of those lines is set to expire in May, and finding a
replacement would be difficult given the economic climate and the

selling or borrowing against assets would be the company's best
option for averting a cash flow problem next year.

Standard Poor's recently lowered its credit rating on the Times

Rupert Murdoch's 2007 purchase of Dow Jones Co. placed him along
side the likes of Sam Zell, who bought Tribune Co., and Bruce Toll,
who bought the Philadelphia Inquirer, on the list of tycoons placing
big (potentially contrarian) bets on newspapers. Richard Greenfield
of Pali Capital Inc. had a dim assessment of News Corp.'s acquisition
in a Thursday note. Greenfield called it stomach churning to listen
to [News Corp.] management indicate that reported operating income
actually suffered from the acquisition of Dow Jones and observed
that News Corp. would have created more value for investors by
donating $5.7 bn to charity than buying DJ.

Re: [AsburyPark] Justified Right spews venom toward Jim Keady

 trying to make a
difference in the world. Finally, he refers to JK as A constant
 attention prostitute
Seems to be a bit of the pot calling the kettle black. Amazing
 stuff

To call Jim Keady liberal doesn't draw the picture. He's a
leftist. And he just quit his
elected position as Councilman in Asbury Park, 6 months shy of the
 end of his term.

Despite his claims of undying commitment to the poor of Asbury Park
 during his
campaign, Keady now says he is too busy for them.

He runs a non-profit dedicated primarily to complaining about the
 Nike company, who he
thinks are slave traders or something (see picture). His company
 Educating for Justice
fights other windmills around the world too, but more troubling is
 that he travels the
country where colleges allow him to give seminars to students about
 the evils of
 capitalism.

 A Bill Ayers wannabe.

Even in a City that just voted 9 to 1 Democrat, Jim Keady is
 alarmingly left.

I've been to speeches by him where audience members yelled
 Communist in response to
 his words.

From the dais he would read excerpts from books by such notorious
 America-haters as
Howard Zinn, while he tried to end long held Asbury Park traditions
 like the Columbus Day
 Landing.

Bringing condescension to new lows, the thirty-something gen-Xer
 felt he needed to
counsel every person he spoke to as if they needed it, often
 handing out reading lists to
people to improve themselves when in fact the people he was
 speaking to were on a
 higher moral plane than him.

A constant attention prostitute, he sought out media whenever
 possible and was noted for
sandbagging fellow councilmembers with surprise grandiose
 pronouncements designed
for no other purpose than to make himself look relevant.

His gaffes in his short career were many.

He got caught overstating the amount of gang members in Asbury Park
 by 12x the real
number and met the wrath of the business community. He played the
 liberal victimology
card and ended up with nothing but a bad beat on the hand.

He got caught entering the High School without permission to play
 make believe Dr. Phil
by counseling students, even though he isn't qualified to do so. He
 was taken to task by
the President of the Board of Education for it.

He was on the failed side of an effort to build in a residential
community a Shelter run by a
company notorious for housing child molesters. The Shelter would
 have been a few blocks
 from a grammar school.

Keady always voted no on Eminent Domain issues as if he were
 righteous, but likely
because he knew there were three votes for yes to pass the
 measures. That theory was
proved true when he was asked to help write a plan to develop
 Springwood Avenue. He
wrote the City's power of Eminent Domain into the plan.

Here are a list of his accomplishments as City Councilman:

 1.

 2.

 3.

 Good Riddance, Lefty.

Better to be inclusive and be part of the American holiday.

Gay parades do let straight people march. EHarmony wasn't
specifically a straight services until confronted with gay clients.
Your parallels are forced. Dating in and of itself, is not straight
or gay. Nazi parades proscribe their meaning in there name and
function. As does Kwanzaa. As does Vegan. Dating per se, does not.

(Sidebar: Why is The Right so obsessed with NAMBLA? They mention this
group more than anyone else.)

On Nov 20, 2008, at 3:48 PM, justifiedright wrote:

 John,

Sometimes you have to look not at the case facts, but the precedent

Sometimes a good result to a sympathetic underdog can actually mean a
lot of undesired results for others.

That's the part that is awful.

At play here is a less often spoken of part of the 1st Amendment (but
no less important): Freedom of Association.

Should the Pride Parade be forced by the Government to let NAMBLA
 march?

Should we force the Kwanzaa ceremony to open itself up to people of
European descent (the services and celebrations are; taking part in
 the ceremony is forbidden)?

Nazi's can march in Skokie in their own parade, but should the
government force Jews to allow Nazi's to march in their parade?

Should a vegan restaurant, open to the public, be forced to serve food
 I desire more than vegan?

When private people want to get together with like minded people
 privately, the government shouldn't interfere.

Sometimes the bigger picture gets lost when we start rooting for a
 sympathetic underdog.

Also lost here is eHarmony spent much time and money doing research on
the compatibility of men and women. They made themselves knowledgable
 in the field.

They haven't studied male/male compatibility (while I'm sure some of
it transfers, aren't there also some unique issues?).

It's like ordering a heart surgeon to do brain surgery. He doesn't
 know the field.

I thought the goal was to keep others and the government out of gay
 bedrooms.

 Why insist eHarmony come in?

 I did a post at www.justifiedright.com

You do not put a lengthy public stance against Kwanzaa on the record.
You do not insist insist that as people celebrate that week, they
should teach about the disgusting crimes of Ron Karenga - Kwanzaa's
 founder.

It is on that ISSUE that you suffer hypocrisy. The different

I never ceases to amaze me how someone like yourself, who makes
 their
living in a profession that demands factual basis for argument, has
such a disdain for accurate and truthful statements.

Mr. Keady, must you start off personalizing?

Speaking of, I note that twice you remark about my grammar in the
post below. I've said many times I post here for leisure. I have
jobs where grammar and spelling are important, and this isn't one of
 them.

Also when I come across someone not to my own standard for grammar,
never would I take him or her to task for it in public. I treat
 people with dignity and respect.

Since it appears important to you though, should you ever wish to
engage in a contest where proper grammar in writing is the score,
just let me know when and where the game begins.

 Now on to substance.

 You said this:

  You wrote:

So you don't think the City should expend any money on cultural
  events.

I never said this. Please go back to my previous email and
 document
where I made this statement. I was clear about religious and
 pseudo-
religious events. I also was clear about why I took issue with a
  specific cultural event, Columbus Day.

Oh I see, Mr. Keady. You hide your objection to Kwanzaa on quasi-
religious. So you disagree with many on this board (as well as Ron
Karenga's Kwanzaa website) that it is neither religious nor a
 replacement for religion.

Fear not though - the folks on this board who see you in Messiah-like
fashion will not score their disagreement against you. They will
just use it as an excuse to rail at me at the mere thought of having
 to disagree with you.

Religious vs Cultural aside, I understand you to stand against he
City's expenditure of funds for Kwanzaa.

As I understand you, the reason you go public on the dais against
Columbus Day and not Kwanzaa is that you feel the full story about
Columbus is not told. You think of him poorly.

Let's put aside that I've alerted you to all the bad information we
have about Columbus came from his arch-rival, De Bobadilla, whose
claims were debunked back in his own time (yet resurrected today by
those who wish American history was bad). We can argue that again
 next October.

Right now I'm interested in your excuse for bashing just my culture
 as opposed to others.

You say it is because we don't teach the bad parts of Columbus.

Well, Ron Karenga the founder of Kwanzaa, was convicted of kidnapping
and torturing two minority women, beating them with cords, putting
hot irons in their mouths and making them drink detergent. A
shocking display of misogyny, cowardice, power, lack of compassion
 and inhumane action (WWJD?).

If your excuse for railing against Columbus each year is we should
include his bad story in our Columbus celebration, why do you not
rail with equal vigor that we include Dr. Karenga's horribleness in
 the Kwanzaa celebration?

Please tell me you have some legitimate excuse to clear up this
 glaringly hypocritical position?

Oh by the way - the Catholic Church financed much of Columbus' trip.
Did you rail against the church when we were trying to become a
 Deacon?

As I shared in my earlier email, I do not support the City's
expending of any tax-dollars on Christmas, so, your above question
 to
  me is moot.

Then what about your thoughts on the private entity, the Chamber,
making a decision to excise the name Christmas from their
celebration while still using trees with lights, stars, wrapped
 presents and Santa Claus?

Do you support the co-opting of culture and changing its name?

On a more personal level, as a fellow Christian, I do not think
 that
we need the State to edify (by celebrating Christmas) our counter-
cultural commitments to following the Good News of a radical,
itinerant preacher from Galilee (Jesus). When it comes to this, I
think the sage advice of St. Francis of Assisi is worthy of
consideration. Francis said, Preach the Gospel at all times and
  when necessary use words.

I seem to recall denying Jesus 3 times before the cock crows being a
 bad thing too.

Porn: Republican values.

On Nov 8, 2008, at 8:39 AM, justifiedright wrote:

 Italian politics are fun.

They even have a porn star in the legislature:

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, under
fire at home for describing U.S. President-elect Barack Obama
as suntanned, said on Friday he saw no need to apologize.

At a news conference, Berlusconi was brusque with an American
journalist who suggested he should say sorry for the remark on
Thursday. Visiting Moscow, he described the man elected to be the
first black U.S. president as handsome, young and also suntanned.

His center-left opponents called the comment racist; Berlusconi
responded by saying they were imbeciles without any sense of humor.

At Friday's news conference after a European Union summit, the
reporter asked: Prime Minister, do you realize that your comment on
Obama is offensive to the United States? Why don't you apologize?

Berlusconi responded: Give me a break! You have just put yourself
on that list of people (imbeciles) I mentioned yesterday!

When the reporter pressed for an answer on why Berlusconi did not
deem it necessary to apologize, the prime minister, clearly
irritated, said: Why (should I)? You should apologize to Italy! He
then walked out of the room.

Berlusconi's latest gaffe was on the front pages of most Italian
 newspapers on Friday.

Berlusconi never fails to live up to our worst expectations, said
an editorial in the Rome daily La Repubblica.

Berlusconi, who prides himself on being a friend of outgoing U.S.
President George W. Bush, is famed in diplomatic circles for making
 sometimes inappropriate quips.

On his first meeting with Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh
Rasmussen in 2002, Berlusconi complimented him with the
words: Rasmussen is not only a great colleague, he's also the best-
 looking prime minister in Europe.

He added: He's so good looking, I'm even thinking of introducing
 him to my wife.

He sparked a minor diplomatic incident in 2005 by suggesting he had
wooed Finnish President Tarja Halonen to ensure her backing for
Italy to host the European Food Safety Authority.

I had to use all my playboy tactics, even if they have not been
used for some time, he said, prompting Helsinki to call in the
Italian ambassador to explain the comments.

Re: [AsburyPark] Re: New Prez First Speech

2008-11-08 Thread Jersey Shore John
False:
I refer to it as the world's worst-kept secret that President Reagan
relies on astrology. Astrologer Sydney Omarr 1988

http://tinyurl.com/7qkbk

Reagan became noted as being one of the few governors to actually
sign astrology legislation when on August 30, 1974, as Governor of
California, he signed legislation which became Chapter 583, and added
Section 50027 to the government Code, relating to astrology. The
legislation removed Sacramento licensed astrologers from the category
of fortune tellers, thus allowing them to practice their trade for
compensation. According to Reagan's former Chief of Staff Donald
Regan, the prime source of astrological direction inside the Reagan
White House was being provided by San Francisco star gazer Joan
Quigley. In his book For the Record Regan stated that Nancy Reagan
planned almost all presidential travel, press conferences, and even
the president's cancer surgery based on information she was receiving
from Quigley.

Regan made his stunning revelation concerning the use of astrology
after being forced out of the White House by Nancy Reagan. It was a
revelation that upset many inside and outside the White House
including another prominent astrologer Jean Dixon. Dixon, an
astrologer who became nationally prominent for her prediction of the
assassination of President John Kennedy, was once an astrological
advisor to Reagan. Dixon had gained the favor of the future president
by predicting in 1962 that he would become Governor of California,
and later President of the United States. She was always gung ho for
me to be President, said Reagan. She was dropped by Nancy in 1976,
when she stated that Reagan would not gain the presidency that year.
Nancy figured that Dixon had lost her powers of prediction. Joan
Quigley was quickly picked up by Nancy as the next seer, even though
she too predicted that 1976 would not be the year for Reagan.

In 1988, when the astrology scandal broke at the White House, Dixon
sent Reagan a copy of an New York Times editorial she had just
written supporting the use of astrology. I would shoot a few people
if I were you for talking, she wrote in an attacked handwritten note
to the President. The astrology news was announced, mysteriously and
coincidentally, on almost the same day as the death of Carroll
Righter. Righter, a prominent Hollywood astrologer, was rumored to
have been President Reagan's favorite astrologer during a long 45
year relationship. Reagan even admitted in his 1965 autobiography
Where's the Rest of Me that he and Righter were friends, and that
he and Nancy read Righter's column regularly.

As to your Hillary misinformation:

Imaginary conversations are not seances:

The woman described by Bob Woodward as a spiritual adviser to first
lady Hillary Rodham Clinton disputed several of Woodward's published
assertions Sunday night .

http://www.cnn.com/US/9606/24/clinton.houston/

Jean Houston, interviewed at the Newark Airport by CNN, said that
Mrs. Clinton did indeed have imaginary conversations with Eleanor
Roosevelt at Houston's suggestion. (But) that was maybe four minutes
out of hours and hours of conversation, she said. In his new book
The Choice, Woodward wrote that Houston, co-director of the
Foundation of Mind Research, urged Mrs. Clinton to write It Takes a
Village, and assisted extensively in rewrites. Houston said that she
did help edit the book, but that Mrs. Clinton wrote that book
entirely. Houston said she made the suggestion to hold the imaginary
conversations with Mrs. Roosevelt and others to focus her busy mind
on issues that surrounded the book. That was it, Houston said. No
spooks. No seances. Nothing. She's the least psychic person I've
known, and I'm a close second. ... I don't have a psychic bone in my
body.

You are so full of gutter BS talking points it's utterly astounding.
You want to stop the personal attacks? Stop lying.

The actual intent behind Senator Obama's misstatement is easy to
discern without the need to invoke an obscure international
organization. He was trying to express the thought that in all the
time he had spent on the campaign trail so far in 2007-08, he had
visited all (48) of the states in the continental U.S. save for one
(i.e., one left to go, excluding Alaska and Hawaii), but in his
weariness he slipped up and started off with fifty instead of
forty. (Note the long pause in the video clip between the words
fifty and seven.)

Probably the biggest chord she struck was her promise to advocate
for kids with disabilities.

Another lie:

Sarah Palin Slashed Special Needs Education by 62%
For those of you who seem so enamored with Gov. Sarah Palin, it might
be worth noting that she oversees the budget for the Department of
Education and Early Development Special Schools in Alaska. These
funds provide supplementary educational services to students with
severe disabling conditions and the Alaska Challenge Youth Academy.
The resident school where the child would normally be placed does not
have the resources to provide an adequate educational program.
Without the supplementary services the child’s needs would not be met
by the local school district in most cases.

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was $8,265,300.

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of
5,109,300 , or 62%.

For the first time ever, we have a vice presidential candidate who

a single, full-length press conference at which reporters are
permitted wide-ranging leeway to ask questions on policy issues,
campaign developments, personal and professional qualifications of
the candidate, etc. The closest we probably will come is this set of
fluff questions and answers from a brief question and answer period
aboard Palin's campaign plane. I guarantee that the reporters were
told that they risked being shut off completely once again if they
strayed from the approved list of topics or attempted to press her on
any of her responses.

Here's the real story, staight from Alaska:

Gov. Sarah Palin and state lawmakers have gone ahead with an overhaul
of Alaska's school funding system that supporters predict will
provide much-needed financial help to rural schools and those serving
 students with disabilities.

The plan, enacted in the recently concluded session of the
legislature, is based on recommendations issued by a legislative task
force last year. It will phase in a greater flow of money to
districts outside of Anchorage, Alaska's largest city, over the next
 five years.

Advocates for rural and remote schools have lobbied for years for
more funding, in particular noting the higher fuel, transportation,
and other costs associated with providing education in communities
 scattered across the vast state.

A second part of the measure raises spending for students with
special needs to $73,840 in fiscal 2011, from the current $26,900 per
student in fiscal 2008, according to the Alaska Department of
Education and Early Development (emphasis added).

Sarah Palin Slashed Special Needs Education by 62%
For those of you who seem so enamored with Gov. Sarah Palin, it
 might
be worth noting that she oversees the budget for the Department of
Education and Early Development Special Schools in Alaska. These
funds provide supplementary educational services to students with
severe disabling conditions and the Alaska Challenge Youth
 Academy.
The resident school where the child would normally be placed does
 not
have the resources to provide an adequate educational program.
Without the supplementary services the child's needs would not be
 met
by the local school district in most cases.

The Annual budget for 2007, which preceded Gov. Palin was
 $8,265,300.

The Annual budget for 2008, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

The Annual budget for 2009, enacted by Gov. Palin is $3,156,000.

This is a cut in special needs services to children in Alaska of
  5,109,300 , or 62%.

Since he did it twice, that too is not a slip of the tongue.

It does mean that he knows not even the most basic tenant of UN

BAGHDAD — Two Iraqi insurgent groups called on President-elect
Barack Obama to withdraw from Iraq and Afghanistan and abandon the
war on terror, an Internet monitoring service reported Friday.

Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, self-styled head of the Al Qaeda front group
the Islamic State of Iraq, said in a speech posted on an extremist
Web site that it would be better for you and us to withdraw your
forces and return to your homes, according to the SITE
Intelligence Group that monitors militant Web sites.

Al-Baghdadi blamed the global financial crisis on the wars launched
in Muslim countries and said he was issuing the call on behalf
of my brothers in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Chechnya, SITE
 said.

The U.S. military says al-Baghdadi is an actor who provides a voice
for Al Qaeda in Iraq propaganda.

In a separate statement, the Mujahedeen Army, a Sunni insurgent
group, urged Obama to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq or face days
that will be more difficult than the nightmare experienced by his
 predecessor.

According to SITE, the statement said both Democrats and Republicans
share attitudes hostile to Muslims and both support Israel, which
means there will be little change in U.S. policy in the Middle East.

The one who won the presidential election won the approval of the
Jewish lobby, which controls, to a large extent, the administration
of American foreign policy, the Mujahedeen Army statement said.

The Islamic State of Iraq purports to be an umbrella organization of
religious extremist groups including Al Qaeda in Iraq.

The Mujahedeen Army emerged in late 2004 and has distanced itself
from al-Qaida because of opposition to the terror movement's attacks
 on Shiite civilians.

currently enjoying his 15 minutes of fame, is that he has an unpaid

I find it interesting that a pretty healthy guy (he works full time

wants to buy a business that makes $250,000, though it’s not clear

not, what care might he have possibly purchased that cost ONLY $1200?

I'd give anything to switch careers and go in to political
   consulting.

McCain needed to craft his own hopeful message with a bit of
 policy
   sprinkled in.

Not that I would have ignored the Ayers issue. Ayers did the same
   thing Bin Laden did.

You just couldn't win with that as priority one at this moment in
time. Were it November 4, 2002, 2003 or 2004 perhaps. Once the
Market crashed on September 15 McCain needed to talk about nothing
   but money.

Whomever is punching Palin in the nose today from the McCain camp
   should never be hired again.

Even if anything they said was true, you take that sort of
 thing to
the grave. You never turn on the guy you were working for.

I don't think anything they are saying about Palin is true anyway.
It was clear in every speech she was on the message they put
 her on.

I saw her go rouge once when she disagreed about the Michigan
   pullout.

   She was right.

 Palin is a woman.

Somehow, she made it to the top. Somehow, she can't be a total
   idiot.

I don't think she is an idiot at all. I think she is cunning
 and a
tough politician. I disagree with her politics and personal
   choices of
how she campaigns. She is certainly getting the short end of the
   stick
from the McCain campaign. He chose her but they are now
 blaming her
for their loss. It was McCain's campaign to lose and he did.

But my problem with her and McCain is the negative tone of their
campaign. Each of us makes a personal choice. Theirs was to
 listen
   to
the Rove and Bush people that parchuted into their campaign.
 They
   are
out again and don't give two hoots about Palin or McCain. even
   hear
that it was Palin's own idea to go after the AYers thing.
 Shame on
them all.
