Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac @40First, don't demand that people follow your opinions as if they were complete and unarguable facts, you are clearly very biased. The difficulty in repair, the missing numbpad and the missing CD drive have been things common to all thinner laptops for years now, Mac and Windows both. And Mac navigation is great for the most part, just quite a bit different from Windows. After all how could so many people be using their Mac otherwise if it was really that bad? I've used it my self if not very recently and it was just fine, so maybe your VM was messing it up or something, since Mac VM's are notoriously iffy.Agreed about the keyboard though, at least on the newer models. how ever for probably a decade before that they were quite nice, so that can't be applied to all Macbooks. As mentioned by others it's still quite easy to run unsigned apps on the Mac even if they heavily discourage it (I'd hope it'd be common sense that you can probably trust a developer's download) And bigger companies have to pay for signing on Windows as well.It is a problem still though I won't deny that. The touchbar is kind of a problem for blind people but it's not impossible to use, and not all models have it still.Oh and the missing headphone jack has nothing to do with the Mac and Apple aren't the only ones doing it now on smartphones anyway. Of course I think they definitely jumped the gun do to Bluetooth still having lag problems, but it's a different issue. They are for sure overpriced both to buy and repair though even used, even with the awesomely strong unibody design and generally high quality parts, and by no means am I an Apple fanboy I promise, I've wanted to nuke their shiny offices from orbit several times over the years.LOL SLJ I was writing my post as you were. Re: DT in BGT What I want is a way to update any vector on the fly, so to speak. Ok, I've gotten everything working correctly in terms of direction. Now what I need to know is how best to mirror the direction for the opponent machine. In other words, if I hit the ball at a 45 degree angle away from me, it's actually going to come toward the opponent, so the movement would basically be mirrored. Re: X3: Terran Conflict, like Smugglers on Steroids Hi guys.I don't know if these questions have been asked since I haven't read all the messages in this topic, appologies if this has been asked before.I am planning to buy the game since it sounds amazing, but I'd like some info regarding certain aspects of the game. Is fighting accessible? I expect that such a game has a lot of weapon and armor upgrades and special equipment for each ship, and not being able to upgrade your ship is a major down. What about the fighting mecanics? can it be done with a screen reader in such a way that you have a chance to advance only by fighting? I am very curious about how you would board an enemy ship or loot the items after a battle. Are missions duable with a screen reader? Sofar I've only heard one playthrough and the only thing the guy did was trade. I'm not the trader type, I'd preffer to go the bounty hunter or assassin route so any info regarding this would be appreciated. Re: DT in BGT
Re: DT in BGT One of BGT's more annoying issues is the lack of the 'new' keyword or equivalent, which would probably help.I think there's a new_vector function in my math.bgt script, something like:vector new_vector (double x=0, double y=0, double z=0) { vector ret (x, y, z); return ret;}Then I got tired of writing new_vector so much, and made another just like it called nv.Not sure if this is quite what you were talking about. It's surprisingly easy to forget things like that without realizing it until doing a deep dive for some other problem. I still do this on occasion. Sometimes it will be something like this, other times it will be things like forgetting to set how much damage an attack should do, and I seem to remember at least once forgetting to add a move to a movelist after creating it. All of those being recent. Re: Music stiles from around the world.
Re: Music stiles from around the world. music from the Colombian Andes does not get much love or recognition these days, but here is a very traditional, masterful one, which always makes me think of the colder chilly days (we got no seasons) and the mountains.. the farm life in here. This is called a bambuco. It contains an accompanyment guitar, a mandolin (which takes the melody most of the time) and also a tiple which is the instrument you hear to your left which has a more metallic, brighter sound.this pasillo is one of the most inspiring, respectful (in the sense of tradition), imaginative and provocative adaptations for solo piano that i have ever heard done with this music. And to get your appetite flowing, an American jazz guitarist took the tiple in his own hands to make his take on it.We certainly do have some jazz fusion from the greats living abroad with some music from the Atlantic coasts, and also the same for music from our pacific coastsI hope this was diverse enough, Colombia has a very vast musical palette that cataloguing everything is too much of an almost impossible undertaking.. this is also due to its rather interesting geography which used to greatly distance regions but that changed a long time ago thanks to the available transportation technology. Dive into python, Think Python, how to Think like a Computer Scientist, and Python practice book. Alternatively, if you decide to go with it, you can go to: www.python-course.eu as well. Why did I mention Python? Because it's easy to learn, of all things, one of the most helpful thing would be this. Re: Update about Episode 1 launch
Re: Update about Episode 1 launch Now that you mention that, I do remember that actually being possible. I think Amazon might've exploited that in an app of there's, having a button only show up if voiceover was off. That's a good call, because the game can be played with voiceover enabled due, but we're talking game vs shopping application with two very different codebases here so I"m not sure how exactly one would tackle this. See, this is why a physical or software back button always wins the day. People are aware of where it is even though it's always there, so they generally don't hit those areas anyway. I'm talking the android bottom button bar (back, home, recent apps). Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac
Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac @57, the problem is that we shouldn't have to go through wine or a VM to play games on Linux. Again, the same point Nocturnus raised earlier is still valid -- why virtualize Windows if you can just buy a PC with it for pretty much the same price of Windows? I won't consider Mac or Linux gaming platforms in their own right until I can run games natively on them, without any VM technology or Wine in my way. Wine is a kinda hack together solution. There's a 50-50 chance of you managing to get anything working on it; if it works, great, but if it doesn't, too bad, your screwed. A VM though is a solution that has a nearly 100-percent success rate. Again though, why should you have to use hardware resources when a VM will never be able to bring you the same speed and performance a bare metal OS can give you? Re: Creating a Crazy Party server
Re: Creating a Crazy Party server You need to forward UDP port 2500 to the local IP address of your computer. How you do this varries from router to router, but generally, you want to find a section called port forwarding in your router's configuration settings. From that point, use 2500 for both the internal and external port, select UDP as the protocol, and type the local IP address of your computer. Alternatively, you may be able to select your device from a list of connected devices. In addition, you also need to ensure that the game can communicate through Windows Firewall. The problem with a VPN is that all participants must set it up, and I don't think the one that was set up works anymore. If you haven't already, please contact Pragma and ask him about creating a server application. The program should sit in the background and listen for incoming connections. The game should be modified to take advantage of this server app by allowing users to connect, list all available players, and allow anyone to create or join games. This would eliminate the need to forward ports except for the person maintaining the server. I realize that Pragma may not have the resources to host a central server himself, hence why I suggest including the standalone server executable with the game. I would love to host a Crazy party server along with the others I already host. The more people that contact Pragma, the more likely it may happen. Re: Unable to use my USB keyboard with my Pixel phone
Re: Unable to use my USB keyboard with my Pixel phone Guess it really depends on the keyboard. If the keyboard is plug-n-play, then it should work, otherwise it won't. And trust me - not all keyboards are plug-n-play. If windows has to search for drivers behind the scenes, it's not plug-n-play. My Pixel2 recognizes my Korsair K63's wireless dongle, for example, just fine. Re: Update about Episode 1 launch
Re: Update about Episode 1 launch Once again Apple screws the pooch. And no, after the Facetime shenanigans I'm not giving them anymore free passes on anything. And a back button is going to seriously interfere with the game which makes me wonder if the rejection team even playtested the damn thing blindfolded or not, or are just looking for a reason to reject the blasted thing. *sigh*What makes me even more mad is this is a quality game we were talking about that got rejected, yet Apple was willing to bend over backwards for you know who when they threw a fit over some new app store guidelines. So where do they draw the line if there even is one? Is it because those games had interfaces anyway? Do those games have graphics (probably.) But then they take a quality game like Gold Gun and reject it just because of the sissy back button or lack thereof? In-friggin-credible.To that end I do wish you the best of luck getting it into the store, the Apple rejection crew really are a right royal pain to deal with. Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac
Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac As for Carl's willingness to help, while that is to be commended, there really is nothing we as users can do at this point to save the mac accessibility. Apple won't take our feedback seriously, and that's already been proven in the Facetime fiasco (the 14year old that found the bug and reported it, Apple didn't entertain the report because they only take those reports from people who have a developer account which costs $100.) So basically, unless you're paying us even more than you already did, you're just another run-of-the-mill customer as far as we're concerned and we don't need to take your *perfectly honest* bug reports seriously. Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac
Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac Here's the thing with that Brandon, even videographers and music producers are not as loyal to the mac as Apple wants them to be. They were when the macbook pro was actually an enthusiast-friendly machine with truly stand-out resources and software. But now with an unupgradeable line of pro laptops it's becoming harder for enthusiasts and creatives to justify buying a machine that really isn't loyal to them anymore. In the creative circles, for the same few thousand you can spend on a mac, you can get a machine with upwards of 64gb ram, a combination of ssd's and hdd's for your needs, and loads of other customizable internals. I'm speaking of course ofstudiocat.coma custom-build pc marketplace that lets you custom-fit the pc you buy from them. The mac pro was going to be that supercomputer-esc model Apple was trying to hipe, but it fell through. Re: strange, jennios hosting down
Re: strange, jennios hosting down I could always reverse the question. Name me a host provider that you know with 100% certainty that doesn’t look at your Files. The truth, is that you can’t. Not in less you are a hosting provider. Do you have any evidence that they have been looking at other peoples files. Any hard, Cold, and indisputable evidence? If so, please share them. I’m sure me and the community would love to take a look at it. But my main point, is that we don’t know. We don’t know what are they doing with the files. That can be said about any hosting provider. Oh, sure, some providers offer instructions on what they do with the files. But for all you know, it could all be a big lie. If you are going to be paranoid, be paranoid about something you can control. Unfortunately, the Internet is not such an example. Re: Interest in an open source vocoder library? Great that you're making wrappers, guys! Always fun to see.@ethin I think there's a bug in the process method in the C++ wrapper. You are declaring buf, which you use for the output, as an uninitialized pointer. It's not pointing to valid memory - it's pointing to a random address in RAM. It needs to either be a parameter to the function so that the user can supply it, or you need to have something like an std::vector of floats in your class if you want the user to be given a float buffer that is managed by your class rather than by the user themselves.Kind regards,Philip Bennefall URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/408468/#p408468 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: I need help, again! So I wanted to be able to get the user to hear stuff from their screen reader, and doing a bit of research yielded Tolk, direct download link I looked at the tolk.h file, and it's pretty understandable. My issue? Well, uh, I can't import it? Where do I paste in the modules to be imported/what exactly do I paste? Do I paste in the entire src folder somewhere? Do I paste in the .h file somewhere? Highly doubtful... Does the script I run require the lib folder within the directory it's run from? If so, where do I paste the library to if I want the console, you know, the thingy that pops up after you type in python into the running prompt, to not give me errors stating that it can't find a module named Tolk. I don't think I will be able to handle the costs for long, I have to ask, if you guys are willing to support me in this. I know this hasn't started yet, and I am trying to do all I can for making the server be Ok with memory, but this won't last long. The VPS is currently 512 RAM and 20 GB. I could temporarily use a sqlite DB instead of a mySQL database, andn hope it will not take away the storage too quickly. What should I do? Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac Post 47 is proof of what 46 is trying to showcase, that being that even when you own a mac, you're still using windows. If you can natively do everything you can do everything that is anything and everything computing on a mac, why even have windows anything else?Again, no bash, but it's true. For all the love I have for OSX, the at least 500 dollar price tag to run it on the best hardware possible, coupled with whatever else you're going to have to pay for accessory wise, then throw in tech support and whatever other bla you may want to purchas to protect your 500 plus dollar investment, is not entirely reasonable for anyone who isn't invested into the Apple system... iTunes library full of iTunes movies and tracks, Apple music, devices like the various pods, watches, iPad, TV, iPhone and on and on we go, it's just not worth it. If you have all of the above, there is a beautiful, seamless all over the system integration. Answer your calls, and messages wherever you are and on whatever device you want, stream your music and other media to whatever you have, find whatever device you've lost, update them all with ease, all around connectivity, information and stability that feels exactly the same, no matter what device you're using.Beyond that, it's just another system, another device, another bunch of hardware to have that, may or may not suit you depending on what you want it for. It's beautiful and stable, it hardly crashes, it's screenreader just works in practically every situation native to it, it can hold your hand or let you go as far as you want to, and it doesn't complain at you because you forgot some piece of maintenance you would otherwise have to do where windows is concerned. The machine will last you for years and will work with more or less every update and upgrade along the way as long as it lasts, it can easily be reset to its default settings, you more than likely won't need any sighted eyeballs to tap into its more obscure functionality or to repair it where simple repairs are concerned. But these are all just selling points, because outside of these things, there really is, nothing, that you can do with a mac that you can't do with a windows PC. Audio editing? Audacity for free, reaper for cheap. Audio listening? Foobar, winamp, VLC, and on and on. If you really miss it, get iTunes for windows; it works more or less the same. Internet browsing? Do I really need to go there? IE, FF, chrome... I'm sure you get the point. It's a question of whether or not you want to make your cake and eat it, or whether you want to buy your cake and eat it. Make the cake? Use windows. Buy the cake more or less already made? Use a mac. Because it's usually cheaper to make the cake than to buy the cake, if you're financially strapped and you have the knowhow, you'll make the cake. Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac There isn't really a good reason for switching to a mac from Windows; If you know how to do everything on Windows then a mac won't suddenly do it better. It's main advantage used to be the good integration of accessibility in the operating system, you can buy a mac anywhere, hit command + f5, and you've got a very good screenreader running with vocaliser voices. If you got a Windows computer let's say 5 years ago, the first thing you needed to do was download a third-party screenreader. Until nvda came along in 2006, that'd cost you some money. Voiceover was introduced with mac os 10.4 tiger, in 2004, and I believe (haven't tested this) it was also a good screenreader from the beginning. Then, not all builtin apps of windows are completely accessible. When trying to find one that wasn't just now, I opened event viewer, nvda frose and I had to restart it. Then, I had to end the process in task manager because the event viewer frose and took nvda with it. On an iphone, you don't have that problem. All included apps are fully accessible. On the mac, it used to be the same. Lately though apple has let voiceover bugs accumulate and now I believe voiceover has lost it's advantage. They're just alternatives, but if you venture outside the relm of writing some notes and browsing the web, Windows just has more possibilities available, gaming wise and also in other .areas URL: https://forum.audiogames.net/post/408434/#p408434 -- Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector

Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac
Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac Ok, let's give a non-fabricated unbiassed review here. Three years ago when I bought my mac, it was still a good machine. I.e, good before it went downhill. Updates were actually kind of exciting, and voiceover had its proud moments here and there. But as time went on, and criticism of Apple grew to be more valid, and voiceover stopped receiving updates (voiceover hasn't received an update in the last two supposedly major updates.) Well, to be clear, they weren't major updates anyway, but there's plenty wrong with voiceover that they totally could have fixed but are choosing not to. Ok, so maybe the mac was the well known pioneer for solid state hard drives. Well, now newer windows machines will undoubtedly have one, though it's harder to find one with a pciE gen3x2 hard drive controller, which is faster than a typical 2.5inch sata controller, which, non-technically speaking, gives the mac a pretty big speed boost. That is the only big reason I am not getting rid of this machine, because so far the hardware is actually pretty good. But it won't be once Apple ditches Intel chipsets and makes macs with their own chips that are probably going to die in less than five years, and that also means that those machines will probably not be able to do windows desktop virtuallization at all, making the mac truly not worth it.So, I say, stick to windows. It might have been worth a look just a few years ago, but now it is definitely not worth even finding one on the used market. Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac
Re: why developers should port their games to the Mac ah! hello dark and SLJ. well I no your all not mac haters, and yes access to things is daunting, but the main thing on getting a mac is well ok the commands are different to windows I must admit. but if you new how to work with voice over, if you were to either download a walkthrough, or go on a YouTube channel about macs, Linux and other various stuff and take a note of how other people were to use it, and how they make use of it's aps and how to get them working and make it easy so that not only will you be struggling, you'll have a very good idea on what to do, and lol I-phones are very bad to use. for it's easy to end up in a bad situation. but I would get a mac though, even if your struggling with one part or most parts, I still might be able to help out for I currently have a mac and I use it often enough and yes ok, I did start off with being frustrated and pulling my hair out, but I now no where everything is, what I want to do and need to do, so over all I'm having fun. for even though I still have a windows10 machine, I'll still use that so that it isn't sitting there. but lol dark and SLJ I seriously look forward in to giving you as much info as possible, and insuring mac entertainment is at It's satisfaction.
