[Bacula-users] Distinct FileSets with distinct Pools
Hello, Is that possible, using bacula, to create two distinct pools to the same client? This way I would have two FileSets, with their respective volumes. A pool would be the backup of a server's fraction, and the second one of the other fraction i.e.FileSet1 Volumes: part1Server_Full, part1Server_Diff, part1Server_Inc FileSet2 Volumes: part2Server_Full, part2Server_Diff, part2Server_Inc Could anyone clear this doubt up or give me any reference where I can read about it? -- Eduardo Júnior :: twiki.dcc.ufba.br/~EduardoIhtraum linux user 423272 -- "O meu conhecimento é o nosso conhecimento." [Bacula-users] Help With bacula excluding directories
First let me say Bacula is a great tool and works very well. My question is this: On my netapp device i have ".snapshot" directories interspersed in the file system. I need to delete these from my backup. I have tried numerous things, first reading the manual but have not yet been successful in making this happen. Bacula version: Version: 2.2.3 ( i know there is newer versions) Here;s my configuration for the server to be backed up which NFS mounts the filesystems from the netapp. # EORI NetApp # Client (File Services) to backup Client { Name = hp1-fd Address = hp1.gg.uwyo.edu FDPort = 9102 Catalog = MyCatalog Password = "9p+R2Jyx6l1KCVyU4WSPSPPSKgeZsRyM/iMnVVG80gXL" File Retention = 365 days# 30 days Job Retention = 365 days# six months AutoPrune = yes # Prune expired Jobs/Files Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1 } job { Name = "hp1-home" Enabled = no Type = Backup Client = hp1-fd FileSet = "hp1-home" Schedule = "EORI-Cycle" Storage = L700E Messages = Standard Pool = EORI Write Bootstrap = "/usr/local/bacula/working/hp1-home.bsr" Prefer Mounted Volumes = No Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 1 } # List of files to be backed up FileSet { Name = "hp1-home" Include { Options { signature = MD5 noatime= yes } File = /net/uwyo/vol/vol0 } Exclude { File = core File = ".snapshot" } } With the above job definition I still get the ".snapshot" directoies included in the backup. I know that i'm missing something about the EXCLUDE list but i can't seem to figure out what. What do i need to change to exclude all ".snapshot" direcories inthe file system? begin:vcard fn:Jeffrey Lang n:Lang;Jeffrey org:University of Wyoming;Geology and Geophyscis adr:;;1000 E. You need to get the label barcodes working because you should never manually label tapes in an autochanger that has a barcode reader. If you label the tapes manually you are disabling the advantage of having a barcode reader to tell bacula what tapes are in each slot. At first, I said, where's the problem. OH THERE IT IS. It helps if you explicitly point it out to us old folks. Check permissions on your mtx-changer script, and the devices it accesses with respect to the UID/GID that bacula-sd runs as. When i use Drive-2 the sd-server log out the following error (debug 400): --- want=0 got=2 --- Why the sd server want zero and not 2? I don't now! The tape is not in the catalog but has a label. In this case you need to erase the tape. Load the tape in the drive and look at Kern's answer here: http://www.mail-archive.com/bacula-users@lists.sourceforge.net/msg16858.html If your drive is not st0 replace that with the correct drive. Also you probably should stop bacula-sd because depending on how you configured things it may have exclusive access to your tape drive. John -- John M. [Bacula-users] Problem with storage (LTO-2)
Hi all, im currently having some issues with my HP Ultrium LTO-2... It is connected via scsi on an HP server too Sometimes I get this error in bconsole: 01-feb 02:04 adm-sd: adm-mysql-diario.2008-02-01_02.00.00 Error: Unable to position to end of data on device "LTO" (/dev/nst0): ERR=dev.c:931 ioctl MTIOCGET error on "LTO" (/dev/nst0). ERR=Input/output error. This error is not always there, only thing I have to do to start backups is to umount and remount the device and that's it (previously updating the volume parameters, since it is marked as error) As you imagine doing this delays the backups nearly 6 hours (from the schedule time, till I get here). If some kind soul can help me will be really apreciatted. Thank you so much Horacio Lo Brutto -- -Jorixine- - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula 2.2.8 wont start (MacOS X)
Hello again Piero, Sorry I don't have a MySQL installation with Bacula, otherwise I could help you solve your MySQL problem with Bacula on Leo. All I can do is say that there is for sure hope, because I have Bacula 2.2.8 on Leopard 10.5.1 built against Postgres running perfect so far. I am about to research the details of Leopard's use of extended attributes (EAs) including Access Control List (ACL) metadata information that is stored in some files on the HFS file systems. By the way, I should also let you know that the disk volumes that I attach to my Mac that runs Leopard Server 10.5.1 are all HFSX journaled (that is, case-sensitive). You might know that you can now have the option, with Leopard, to install your boot disc volumes from the Apple Leopard DVD discs as HSFX (case sensitive). This is great news because in Tiger we only had the option of formatting non-boot-discs with HFSX. I'm pretty sure that the HFSX case sensitive option for the Mac OS X boot discs were required in order for Apple to get Mac OS X to be fully UNIX certified: http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/unix.html UNIX certification. > > Leopard is an Open Brand UNIX 03 Registered Product, conforming to the > SUSv3 and POSIX 1003.1 specifications for the C API, Shell Utilities, and > Threads. I am currently running Bacula on an Xserve in case you're wondering about my hardware et up. What hardware are you attempting to run Bacula on? Is your hardware Intel or PowerPC based? Hi again Thomasz, You misunderstand again :-p The script wasn't broken. The job definition became incorrect. The job is configured to backup only one file - the dumped Bacula SQL database text file. However because this file changed location the job failed for some time. Because the e-mail subject didn't report "with warnings" no-one noticed for some time! As you say, Bacula cares about files to back up. If any files cause warnings then why wouldn't Bacula show this in the subject with "Backup OK -- with warnings" when the status in the log is also "Backup OK -- with warnings"? The user can still choose to ignore the e-mail the same whether the subject is "Backup OK" or "Backup OK -- with warnings". I think my real-life example shows how important is it to reflect there were warnings in the subject line, and the confusion caused when the two statuses differ! If you want to backup a directory, when this directory does no longer exist, bacula issues a warning in the *body* of the message, but nothing in the subject warns you of this "error" As the OP, I think it would be great to have this kind of information in the subject, or maybe there's another way to be alerted when this happens ? have a nice day ! -- seb - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. Yes and no ;-) The if the status of the backup was "with warnings" then I would expect this to be reflected in the subject of the e-mail. One real-life example... We have a job to backup up the Bacula database. The 'make_catalog_backup' script is executed at the start and 'delete_catalog_backup' at the end, and the job is defined to back up only *one* file - the dumped Bacula SQL database text file. However at some point the dumped database became to large for the file-system and the 'make_catalog_backup' and 'delete_catalog_backup' script were modified to dump the database to a different file-system. For some time this job had failed completely because it could no longer find the file to back up! Our Bacula database backups were failing and we didn't know! The subject of the job e-mail told us "Backup OK" which was taken to mean just that - that the backup was OK. However the actual backup status in the contents of the e-mail was "with warnings". If the subject reflected the same state as the log then someone would have realised the first night! I find the fact that the subject differs from the actual status illogical. Re: [Bacula-users] Bacula 2.2.8 wont start (MacOS X)
Piero, This is a difficult one to diagnose because it depends on how you configured Bacula on your system with Leopard and MySQL. Moments ago, I just ran configure, make and make install with Bacula 2.2.8 on Mac OS X Server 10.5.1(Leopard Server) and I am using PostgreSQL, not MySQL. I had no problems getting the File and Director daemons to run on Leopard Server 10.5.1 but the Storage Daemon gave me an error because I didn't assign an Archive Device in the storage daemon configuration file, as in: Device { > Name = FileStorage > Media Type = File > Archive Device = > LabelMedia = yes; # lets Bacula label unlabeled media > Random Access = Yes; > AutomaticMount = yes; # when device opened, read it > RemovableMedia = no; > AlwaysOpen = no; > } > So when I ran the bacula start script, I got: Starting the Bacula Storage daemon > 01-Feb 10:29 bacula-sd: ERROR TERMINATION at lex.c:735 > Config error: expected a name, got T_EOL: = > : line 48, col 20 of file /opt/local/etc/bacula/bacula-sd.conf > Archive Device = > > Starting the Bacula File daemon > Starting the Bacula Director daemon > Hmm ... it amazing how much has changed from Bacula 2.2.3 to 2.2.8 because I have never heard of the Archive Device directive yet. Ugh! This means I need to read more documentation but I am guessing its for the better. I will for now comment out this line until I know more about it. Nonetheless, the good news is that I can tell you with certainty that Bacula compiles and runs on Leopard Server 10.5.1 and so I would guess also Leopard (non-Server) 10.5.1 I am about to do some testing with Leopard's Access Control Lists (ACLs) with Bacula to see if files that have ACLs can be backed up and restored perfectly. [Bacula-users] E-mails with the subject "Backup OK" when warnings have occurred.
Hi, As a new user, I'll start by thanking Kern (see you at the UKUUG) and everyone who's contributed to Bacula! When the backup status is "Backup OK -- with warnings" the subject of the report e-mail is always "Backup OK". My co-workers (and sometimes I) often miss small problems that cause the warnings because it's assumed from the subject of the e-mail that the backup was completely successful - especially with a high volume of e-mailed reports. My natural assumption is that the e-mail subject would be the same as the backup status. Is this not the case by design? We're running version 2.2.8. Kind regards, Justin University of Brighton. - This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges. [Bacula-users] Problems adding new nodes
Hi All Bacula Gurus :-) I'm in need of your help. I'm running Bacula server 2.0.3 on FreeBSD 6.1 p0. Have serveral nodes (servers & clients) that are backed up via my Bacula server. But now when I add new nodes to backup I get some very wired problems. I have installed Bacula Client 2.0.3 on FreeBSD 6.3 p10 and I've used bacula-fd.conf from already up and running nodes. Added the new node in bacula-dir.conf on the Bacula server (have dubble verified syntax and settings towards already running nodes) and get following error messages when trying to run a backup. - - - - - >8 - - - - - 01-Feb 10:14 blues-dir: Start Backup JobId 9917, Job=chilli.verkstad.net.2008-02-01_10.14.55 01-Feb 10:19 blues-fd JobId 9917: Warning: bsock.c:123 Could not connect to Storage daemon on blues.verkstad.net:9103. [Bacula-users] Problem: Tape Library with 4 drives
Hi, I update my system from 1.38.11 to version 2.2.6 / 2.2.8. My sd server is connected via fibre channel with a tape library (HP MSL 6060) with 4 LTO-2 drives. In version 1.38.11 i haven't any problem with the sd server and the drives. In version 2.2.6/2.2.8, I have the following problem: The SD-Server can check all the drives (status storage=sgzhBaculaSD2-LTO), but i can only connect to drive 0 (example mount). If i want to connect to drive 1 or drive 2 or drive 3 i get the following error in the director "3999 Device "sgzhBaculaSD2-LTO" not found or could not be opened.".
