Hey, question about Dreamweaver, Fireworks, checking out files, etc...

2004-12-20 Thread Jeff Small
Is there a way that anyone knows of, for you to somehow "link" your site
with fireworks? If I keep a PNG file in a library folder in my site, I check
the source PNG file in, so that if anyone needs to change the PNG file, they
have to check it out, just like pages within the site, etc. But that only
works if you're checking out the file from within Dreamweaver. If, say, you
open the PNG by simply launching Fireworks and opening the PNG file, you've
"bypassed" the check in/check out process Dreamweaver uses, and what's
worse, when you go to save the file, you're told you can't, because the
file's locked. Typical solution is to make your changes to the PNG file,
export the working graphic, then close the PNG without saving your file,
pretty much making the whole reason for checking it out pointless...

So what I was wondering was, is anyone using Fireworks/Dreamweaver in their
workflow and have a way to "check out" a file in Fireworks before working on
it? I really dig the application linking between the two, but if you mess up
and go outside of the dreamweaver workflow, it basically stops working...or
is that just the way it's designed?

Today's CF vs The World thread...

2004-12-13 Thread Jeff Small
...great stuff. I know some people tire of it quickly, and that's all cool
and all, but I for one enjoyed the heck out of it. It's a great way for
intelligent programmers who are actually using the product and writing books
on the subject to discuss, yell, debate, and post examples, statistics, and
compelling arguments for both sides.

Obviously some baiting on both sides, and some "nyah nyah nyah" replies as
well, but hey, wheat...chaff...and all that...I'm glad I'm one of those
fortunate ones born with a "bullshit detector" and a keen sense of
pragmatism that somehow merges to form a pretty good filter that enables me
to read or not read, reply or not reply to everything that passes in front
of me...color me gifted I guess...lol...

But seriously, there are naturally some people that get rubbed the wrong way
in these exchanges, and sure, you'll tire of it quickly, but I just thought
I'd pipe up and at least add my voice, to the minority of people apparently,
who thought it was a pretty awesome way to kill a few minutes of precious
life over the last couple of days...so not everyone hates the
trolling...lol...

Lots of asbestos keyboards out there...good thing...Keep up the good work
fellow geeks, there's hope for the world yet...

Yeah, I can see that too...I do more than CF (Flash and Dreamweaver) so the
extension is butter for me. I love it. I sometimes forget that people here
are a little more CF-centric and not so much Macromedia-centric. My bad,

Haha, I'd probably still just use the Macromedia one...That John Dowdell is

Okay, this is a PERFECT time to jump in here and pimp this thing...

http://www.markme.com/macromedianews/

Dude, if you're using Firefox, you HAVE to load this extension. It's frickin
unbelievable. It's single-handedly the coolest extension I've ever used. It
blinks when there's updated content, it loads in a tab in the background,
and it's just the most ubiquitous little way to keep up with the macromedia
blog universe.

I'm hooked like crack...er...not that I've ever tried crack...er...the drug,
I mean...anyway, try that extension. It rules.

We are having an issue where some session variables are getting messed up

experiences?

Re: Query Errors

2004-12-09 Thread Jeff Congdon
Pounds go around variables, not dates. #12/1/2004# is asking coldfusion
to resolve a variable named variables, and 12/1/2004 and that is an
illegal variable name.

To use a standard, regional, date use single quotes. I'm going to
declare your date variable elsewhere just to make it readable:

WHERE tblItemPurchase.itemPurchaseDate >= '#queryPurchaseDate#'

OR

WHERE tblItemPurchase.itemPurchaseDate >=
#createODBCDate(queryPurchaseDate)#

Good luck

OT: Interactive Dynamic Query Report Writer.

2004-12-08 Thread Jeff Waris
Has anyone seen anything like this??? Not for coding purposes and not for
any type of modification of the table or results. Just for simple display
type queries (Select statements). Basically a user would be allowed to pick
a table, then they can interactively set "where" and "sort by" parts based
on the columns available in each table. It would then "run" the query and
display the results.

I don't want to reinvent the wheel if one already exists.

Thanks!
Jeff

RE: Fixed Width variable question.

2004-12-06 Thread Jeff Waris
Maybe I didn't explain this good enough... LOL Its Monday

I know that I can format a number with numberformat... I'd like to apply
this to text variables as well...

Lets say I am interested in doing this...

123
1234
12345
123456

Setting them so they would be
  123
 1234
12345
   123456

Or maybe a better example
Cat
  Apple
 Orange

(Instead of 0's, using spaces...)

Basically I am trying to output fields in a query to a text file in a fixed
width fasion, Field 1 allow only 5 chars, field 2 allow only 11 chars,
etc... That way each field would have a certain column start and finsh in
the text file...

Hope I was more clear this time.. :)

Fixed Width variable question.

2004-12-06 Thread Jeff Waris
Does anyone have a good technique they use to make a "fixed width" variable
to insert into a text file?

For example I have an order number, it can be 3,4,5 or 6 characters long

Lets say:
123
1234
12345
123456

...and I need to format them at 9 characters long by inserting 0's in the
beginning:
00123
01234
12345
000123456

Thanks,
Jeff

That's exactly what I'm going to do tonight. I'm keeping this most excellent
directory structure above and taping it beside my monitor while I'm working.
I think I'm getting the hang of it. I got a couple of O'Reilly Unix/MaxOSx
books on the way home, and I'm pouring over them this weekend.

While it kinda sucks to do, and seems really tedious, the cool part about it
is that it's fairly addictive because you're learning cool stuff...or so it
seems. I'm really getting into it, from a "this is a cool learning
experience" standpoint.

Would a cfset giving the variable a more friendly name be considered
arithmatic and trim the 0's?

Preserve Leading 0's question in cfoutput.

2004-12-03 Thread Jeff Waris
Here's an interesting one...

I have a text field in a database that contains numbers because of a need to
PRESERVE leading 0's
i.e.
0001234
0123
12300

Using a regular query, pulling the numbers OUT of the database DROPS the
leading 0's in the cfoutput. Almost like cold fusion is treating it as a
number not a text field. Is there any way to preserve those leading 0's
inside a CFoutput??

Thanks..

Jeff

Hey Sean, any idea why I'm getting this in my terminal window when I
try to start up my default server? I was able to successfully follow
each step. everything installed in the right places (it worked as soon
as I used the leading '/') but when I went to the next step to verify
the coldfusion install and started my default server, I got the
following message and my administration page wouldn't load...

That's just a snippet...the unsuccessful portion. Everything else (the
server instance) started fine...

Awesome. Thanks Dave and Sean. I'm going thru that CFMX install process
right now and re-reading that install page on Macromedia with a fine
toothed comb. I'm hoping I can get it all installed tonight while I'm

Links? Examples? I *totally* want to learn how to at least start my
default server under jrun. If I install CFMX under my default server
under jrun, will it start that instance of CFMX as well? Or are those
two manual operations? Start jrun, THEN start cfmx?

Well, I'll ad my voice to the "pro" Crystal Tech side. We host about 20
sites with them, ranging from tiny little www's to full blown hospital sites
with HR backends and online bill payments, and we haven't had a *single*
problem in almost two years. We moved from another widely regarded CF host
because of endless problems, and since switching over to crystal tech, not a
single mishap.

My two cents.

*sigh*

I haven't had time to try it since I'm at work, but I've got my powerbook
with me, and I honest-to-god think that was the only problem I had. I was
telling the jar command to look in "Powerbook/Applications/" while I was in
the cfusion directory and not "/Powerbook/Applications/" so I'm almost 100%
certain that was the problem

...and no, I didn't remember that to start at the room you have to have a /
at the beginning...

Okay, so if I'm in, say, "Applications/Jrun4/servers/default/CFIDE" and the
war file is in "Powerbook/Applications" (remember, I expanded the war files
to this directory that the jar file created because I typed the path in

I can do that? I can just delete the folders that the jar file created and
just start over? How do I correctly tell the jar file where to install the
war files?

Boy was I hoping I'd see you jump in here...I think this all boils down
to me not really understanding how the whole .jar/unix/command
line/paths thing actually works on a mac. I think I need to read
something about this first before even trying to go any further. Any
recommendations? I think it's not so much that I don't understand the
command line unix portion, upon further reflection. It seems to be more
of "I just don't really understand how jrun and the whole java install
process works." Does that make sense? I'm reading as carefully as I
can, but I'm really stuck right on number 8. I've done 1-7 perfectly
(well, maybe not perfectly, I wanted to install cfmx...okay, lemme take
that back...I double clicked the jar file and wanted to install it to
my applications folder, which I *thought* was "Powerbook/Applications"
but when I double clicked "Powerbook" I saw that it had actually
created a folder on my root called "Powerbook" and installed the war
files into an "applications" folder it had created there. So rather
than going into "Applications" it's now in
"Powerbook/Applications"...make sense? That was my first screwup.) and
as a result, I don't know exactly what I'm supposed to do once I
navigate to my "Applications/Jrun4/servers/default/CFIDE" directory in
the terminal.

So that was where I just didn't know what to do...

I'm here:
--
If you haven't done so already, open a Terminal window
(Applications/Utilities/Terminal), navigate to the cfusion directory,
and use the jar utility to uncompress the cfusion.war file:

cd jrun_root/jrun4/servers/servername/cfusion
jar -xvf cfmx_install_directory/cfusion.war

Note: In these instructions, replace jrun_root with the directory in
which you installed JRun 4; for example, /Applications/jrun4. Replace
servername with the name of the server to which you are deploying
ColdFusion MX; for example, if you installed ColdFusion MX in the
default JRun server, specify default.
--

and I can't successfully run the 'jar -xvf' command.

> No, you don't 'run' these files. The cfusion.war and rds.war files

I created the directories (cfusion and CFIDE) under the default
directory in my "servers" directory under jrun, which is in my
applications folder. Did I screw that up?

That's what page I'm reading, but it seems like it leaves out a step or
two right at that 8th step...*sigh*. Do I just delete the
"Powerbook/Applications" folder the jar file created on my root and
just try again? How do I tell it to install into a CFMXJ2EE directory
in my applications folder?

Re: Installing CFMX on Mac OS X (root user?)

2004-12-01 Thread Jeff Small
Well, this is what I'm reading:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/coldfusion/j2ee/cfmx-mac-
onjrunandtomcat.html

I'm on step 8, which is:
---
If you haven't done so already, open a Terminal window
(Applications/Utilities/Terminal), navigate to the cfusion directory,
and use the jar utility to uncompress the cfusion.war file:

cd jrun_root/jrun4/servers/server_name/cfusion
jar -xvf cfmx_install_directory/cfusion.war

Note: In these instructions, replace jrun_root with the directory in
which you installed JRun 4; for example, /Applications/jrun4. Replace
server_name with the name of the server to which you are deploying
ColdFusion MX; for example, if you installed ColdFusion MX in the
default JRun server, specify default.
---

...and it all fell apart there. I navigated to the right places,
installed under the default server, and did *everything exactly* like
the instructions said. I'm just at a total loss...

Well, I gave it a try. What a disaster. I can't run the rds.war file.
It's not installing, it's throwing errors like mad. This is such crap.

Installing CFMX on Mac OS X (root user?)

2004-12-01 Thread Jeff Small
I've got Jrun up and running, and I've got the CFMX jar file, and I can
double click the jar file fine, it starts up the installer perfectly,
but I step thru three steps or so, and it says I can't install it
because I'm not root user.

Now, I'm an admin on this machine (my new powerbook) but I'm not a root
user, and so far, everything I've read (The Mac OS X Missing Manual,
mainly) have warned me about promoting myself to root user, and it
makes sense. As a newbie unix "user" on the Powerbook I don't wanna
destroy stuff in the process of fiddling around.

So I guess my question is...how do I get it installed? Is it cool to go
into netinfo manager and just temporarily promote myself to root, run
the install, then just "de-promote" myself the same way? Or can I run
the command line install using sudo and install it? I'll admit up
front, that using sudo in the command line kinda makes me nervous
because I wanna install it under "Powerbook/Applications/CMFX" where my
Jrun is installed and I'm not sure exactly how to do that from the
command line.

Any advice?

Well, all I can add is, "that sure is weird". I'm running it on my laptop,

Re: SOT: Outsourcing

2004-11-18 Thread Jeff Langevin
We've outsourced oversees and domestically.

I think everyone involved in my company agreed that the oversees work
was a disaster. The code that came back sometimes worked, sometimes
didn't. Managing the project was a huge time sink. And the time
difference it made everything an order of magnitude more difficult.

Domestically has been only slightly better. I think there were a few
problems - on both sides. We have an incredibly complex business model.
Therefore, anything we do ends up very complex. I think the person
managing the project could have done a better job at identifying and
communicating our needs. And, I don't think the consultants did a very
good job of asking questions. The end result, is something that works,
but the code is written with poor coding standards, is poorly documented
(no commenting), and is so brittle that indications are that it will
take twice as much work to implement customizations.

My best suggestion if you are going to outsource is to require that you
get example code from whomever is actually going to be coding the
project. Then have one of your developers pick it apart to get an idea
of whether it meets your standards.

Mapping?

2004-11-17 Thread Jeff Small
Okay, so in my root, I want to set up the navigation include so the path is
and on lower pages, the path
can be identical. Then, IN the navigation I'd like to be able to use and have it work on pages both in the
root and a single directory down.

I feel like I'm sniffing around for mappings, but I've never actually done
it. I have a localhost that I'm testing here on my machine (F12) and when
I'm done and check it in, I'd like the paths to work over on our development
server as well. So do I need to create two sets of mappings? In each of my
CFAdmins (the one locally and the one on dev)?

So the mapping to http://localhost/foo is to C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\foo, right?
Am I heading in the roght direction?

Oddball Query question...

2004-11-16 Thread Jeff Waris
Odd query question MY brain is lagging at 4:00pm... I need some help

Table one has a list of zip codes.
Table two has a list of zip codes.

I want to compare table one to table two. The results would list ONLY the
zip codes that appear in table one that do not appear in table two.

Any help is greatly appreciated...

Thanks,
Jeff

Is there anyway to overide this yellow?

A Quick cry for help, figured you guys have probably seen this...

2004-11-15 Thread Jeff Small
We have a development database running on a little windowsXP Pro machine
that's hummed along quite nicely. Then today, we ran SP2 because we did a
monthly reboot and it reminded us. We didn't change any settings and when it
came back up we just cut off the Windows Firewall, the Virus checker, etc
thinking, "well, we'll just cut it all off". We really didn't fear it
because this little machine does *one* thing...run SQL server in-house for
testing and development.

Now the server running CF is throwing errors and all the SQL server
datasources that are normally pointing at the IG-SQL (Interactive Group
SQL...clever, eh?) and working are all being refused with the following
error:

Connection verification failed for data source: TestSQL
[]java.sql.SQLException: SQLException while attempting to connect:
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error establishing
socket. Connection refused: connect
The root cause was that: java.sql.SQLException: SQLException while
attempting to connect: java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC
Driver]Error establishing socket. Connection refused: connect

This is when we simply go in and submit the datasource with all the correct
info...'cause nothing's changed...well...*technically*...

For what it's worth, I can look at "IG-SQL" on my machine with my Enterprise
Manager and all is well. I can see my instance of it, it expands, I see all
the tables, etc...so I know the machine's up and working just dandy. I can
use Enterprise Manager locally on the Machine...and on my machine and see
the server hunky dorey...

Anyway, I just thought one of you guys might have seen it, and could go, "oh
yeah, this happened to us and we #solution#".

Thank ye

Are we allowed to discuss what we saw at Max? I mean, we could answer this
question, but I'm not sure how much we're allowed to say.

I mean, I guess the short answer is, "no, not *exactly*". But can we mention
stuff that's been discussed in *public* but hasn't been elaborated on
anywhere else? How much of the General Session from Day One has NDA attached
to it?

Java to CFMX Question

2004-11-09 Thread Jeff Chastain
I am working with some Java code that I am trying to convert to CFMX again.
This time, I am running into issues with a Java enumeration. How do you
declare an enumeration in CFMX? CreateObject only works with classes (as far
as I can tell).

The Java code I am attempting to duplicate is

IProject iProject = projectManager.GetProject(126);

IRole leaderRole =
iProject.GetRole(Plumtree.Remote.PRC.Collaboration.Security.RoleTypes.Leader);

... where Plumtree.Remote.PRC.Collaboration.Security.RoleTypes.Leader is an
enumeration with 3 members (Guest, Leader, Member).

Can anybody offer any pointers?

Thanks

Subject: Report Generation

I am looking into a nicer way of generating reports with CF.

Currently we generate Property lists with 10 on a page grouped by region.

http://www.mcgrath.com.au/renting/printsummary/complete.cfm?requesttimeout=1
200

We want to make these reports neater, and define a standard header and
footer for each page. Currently there is a lot of counting of rows
and other messy things going on to try and make sure we get the
pagination right. these reports and variants that are required for
printing can take half a day to code in CF. THERE MUST BE A BETTER
WAY!!!

We are wondering if there may be something available, like Crystal
Reports, that we can shove out a data template, header and footer, and
section headers and then it will handle all the pagination for
printing??

Thanks in advance.

SQL question

2004-11-05 Thread Jeff Fongemie
Hey everyone,

I have a table of zipcodes. I have the fieldtype as "interger" and my query works fine:

Select * from dealers
Where dealer_zip in ( #ReturnedZIPs#)

Except that as an interger field type, the leading zeros from the zipcodes are
removed. 01234 becomes 1234. My query works, but my display is off since the zipcodes
are truncated.

If I change my fieldtype to a text field, the zipcodes are left intact, however the
above query gets no returns.

By the way, #returnedzips# is a variable length list like 39485, 39485, 69685, 03295
etc.

Can my query be modified to allow me to change my fieldtype to text?

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

-Jeff

Tom,
The lock didn't work. Still gave me the append error.

Mosh,
Your way worked well doing smaller queries but when doing a real large query
where the output file would be like 30+ megs it hung, what I may do is write
the file out in smaller more manageable chunks...

cftransaction and the request scope

2004-11-04 Thread Jeff Congdon
MX 6.1 environment. For some applications, I do some datasource setup
in the app.cfm to separate development and production environments,
amongst other things. So my app.cfm has some code like this

then in a page in the application, i have some transaction processing

update foo set foo = bar where bar = foo

update bar set bar = foo where foo = bar

sometimes, but not always, i will get this error:
--
Data source devDS verification failed. The root cause was that:
java.sql.SQLException: Datasource names for all the database tags within
CFTRANSACTION must be the same.
The error occurred on line 232.
--

I was under the impression that REQUEST is a superset of the VARIABLES
scope, and will always be thread safe and limited to the CURRENT REQUEST
only. While the error would imply that I am getting
different results for the REQUEST variable within the transaction, I
have seen no evidence to back this up. Specifically, whenever it does
fail, it always gives the proper datasource in the error message, NEVER
giving the "other", "improper" datasource... in this case it would be
"productionDS".

I can work around this problem by setting variables.thisDSN =
REQUEST.thisDSN at the top of the transaction, then just calling
#thisDSN# in the datasource field...but what's the point? I thought
REQUEST was exactly the same as the VARIABLES scope, excpet REQUEST
could be read by all parts of the thread (including custom tags). Why
then would it not, within the request, always define request.thisDSN
exactly the same way?

Any ideas? & TIA,

-Jeff

make your query like this:

SELECT item, date, MIN(date) AS orderDate

GROUP BY item, date
ORDER BY orderDate DESC, item, date

CFFile Issue

2004-11-04 Thread Jeff Waris
Something is not right... Has anyone else run across this... I have a query
that I write the results to a file using CFFILE. Very simple, albeit its a
large result set though.

I loop that query to write each record out to a line in a text file. I use
the code CFFILE ACTION="Append"

After about 70k it errors out. I get this off the cfcatch variables.

"An error occurred when performing a file operation Append on file
C:\Archive\X.txt."
"The cause of this exception was: java.io.IOException: Cannot create a file
when that file already exists."

My feeling is that there is something locking the file not allowing to be
appended to. Has anyone else run across this. Is there a timeout setting
anywhere that I might be able to set... This is frustrating because this
code worked just fine on CF5? Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks...
Jeff

CFMX Security Best Practices

2004-10-29 Thread Jeff Chastain
Sorry if this is a duplicate, it did not appear that my first message went through.

I am moving froma shared hosting environment to my own dedicated server, so all the
sudden I have to start worrying about how to best setup and secure CFMX on a Windows
2003 box. Does anybody have any resources they could direct me to? I have been
browsing Macromedia's site, but any specifics would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can also just download MSDE, which is SQL Server 2000 minus the analysis
services and Natural Language search facilities. You can connect to it
using EM and/or Query Analyzer as well.

You need to get a copy of the desktop edition of sql server... That is
the only one that will run on XP... Or any non server OS for that
matter.
It is included in the MSDN library if you have that.. If not, I think
someone previosuly mentioned it is pretty cheap to buy... $49 or
something..

Has anyone done this?

2004-10-21 Thread Jeff Waris
I have an application that uses sessions and cookies to log people in.
Simple enough.

Now for my issue. If a user leaves my site and goes somewhere else, and then
attempts to use his back button to come back to the site, I would like to
return them to the login prompt. Technically, since they didn't log off and
moved to another url via a favorite or manually typed, when hitting the back
button, they have sessions still active. So they are let back in. Has anyone
done this before? I was thinking of checking the referrer, but am unsure if
I can get that to work correctly when the user hits the back button. Am I on
the right track looking at the CGI referrer variable...

Thanks.

Re: cflock

2004-10-19 Thread Jeff Congdon
You don't need one in the current directory, you just need to make sure
the one in the previous directory has that cfapplication tag. If
there's no app.cfm in the current diretory, CF will automatically look
in ../, ../.../, etc until it finds one. Generally you want 1 app.cfm,
and it should be in the root directory of the application. Obviously
there are cases where you'd want more than 1, but that's for another day.

RE: HTTP_REFERER

2004-10-17 Thread Jeff Garza
I use something like this in my application.cfm to check to see if the user
is logged in and if not, capture the original URL that they requested and
display the login page.

cgi.query_string>

Substitute localhost for your webroot.  Then in your login template, you'll
have access to the initialURL variable that you can then use to redirect the
user to the originally requested page.

Subject: HTTP_REFERER

Thanks for answering my last question. Too many issues kept coming up so I
abandoned using application.cfm for headers and went back to just including
templates into each page. Now I have another problem. When I have people log
in I want them to go to the page that they wanted to go to right after the
login info is confirmed. Doing this with the HTTP_REFERER variable gives me
an error stating that http://www.blah.com/blah/blah.cfm is syntactically
incorrect. I'm assuming its becuase of all the /'s and :'s and the like. How
do I go about doing this?

Thanks

Change this to separate fields for , MM and DD. Concatenate
them all together, then concatenate that with the server time and
you have MMDDHHMMSS. You can now do a simple string
comparison (just be sure to document that the code needs to be
revised before Y10K).

OT: Javascript Date/Time help!

2004-10-13 Thread Jeff Waris
I can handle this with CF no problem, but I have an instance where I need to
make a DATE and TIME comparison with the server time BEFORE a form gets
submitted. I figure the best way to handle this is in the form of some
_javascript_ validation. I know _javascript_ but I am no expert by any means.

Here is what I got:
-I can pull the current form date entry with document.myForm.dueDate.value.
-Everyone enters the date in MM/DD/ on the form.
-I can make a _javascript_ variable of the current server DATE using
createdate() CF function.
-I can make a _javascript_ variable of the current server TIME as well using
the CF function createtime().
-I can pull from my database a CUTOFF time in HH:MM:SS from my database.

Now for the tuff part. Using _javascript_, I need to combine the FORM DATE and
CURRENT SERVER TIME into a single _javascript_ variable, lets call it
FORMDATE_TIME. I then need to take the CURRENT SERVER DATE and compine it
with the DATABASE's CUTOFF TIME into another _javascript_ variable as
CUTOFFDATE_TIME.

Once I have those variables, I want to return true if the FORMDATE_TIME is
less than the CUTOFFDATE_TIME and return false if not.

Any help or point in the right direction from any _javascript_ gurus would be
appreciated...

Thanks.

SQL stored procedure question

2004-10-08 Thread Pratte, Jeff
OK, after hearing everybody say don't use Access and an converting my
Check Request System to MS SQL Server. And I am trying to use Stored
Procedures. However, I am finding it more difficult then I anticipated.
For instance, I used to have a query like this:

blockfactor="100">
select crID, SOffUser, SOffNote
from qrySignoffRequest
where SOffDecision = 'Open' and SOffUser = '#theUser#'
order by #sort5#

My stored procedure attempt was this:

CREATE PROCEDURE SignOffCheckRequest_Getx_byDecision_SoffUser
@SoffUser varchar(10),
@Decision varchar(10),
@Sort varchar(10)
AS
select   crID, SOffUser, SOffNote
from viewSignoffCheckRequest
where SOffDecision = @Decision
and SOffUser = @SoffUser
Order by CASE
WHEN @Sort = 'crID' THEN crID
WHEN @Sort = 'crDate' THEN crDate
WHEN @Sort = 'crVendor' THEN crVendor
WHEN @Sort = 'crChkAmt' THEN crChkAmt
WHEN @Sort = 'SOffUser' THEN SOffUser
END
GO

It worked for every type of sort except one (crVendor) where it said
that it was trying to convert an nvarchar to a float. What's that all
about?

Then we come to this query:

username="abc" password="xyz">
select * from WEBMASTER.AP_COA
where 1=1

"">and ldr_entity_id like '#searchCO#%'

gt "">and ull_prime like '#searchPRIME#%'

"">and ull_center like '#searchCTR#%'

"">and ull_sbu like '#searchSBU#%'

"">and ull_product like '#searchPROD#%'

"">and ull_minor like '#searchMIN#%'

searchCUSTOMER gt "">and ull_customer like '#searchCUSTOMER#%'

gt "">and ull_misc1 like '#searchMISC1#%'

gt "">and ull_misc2 like '#searchMISC2#%'

How do I convert that to a stored procedure? I am about to give up!

Thanks for you help, Jeff

Chief,

Strangly, I got the cfc "fever" in the last few days, would it potentially
benefit the community quite a bit if you add a separate forum, cf-cfc?  I'm
just thinking loud here.

Haha, well we'll certainly have to disagree one that point. I'm of the

Hear Hear...Glad someone else said it before I got a chance. Whoever thinks
pointers were a good thing needs to have their head examined. I remember

RE: cfstored proc returning value

2004-10-02 Thread Jeff Garza
I've had no problems using the return variables instead of a full result set
with SQL 2000.  It appears that you aren't using the DBVARNAME attribute.  I
know that CFSTOREDPROC will execute in the order that they are declared, but
I don't know if the same holds true for output params.  Try using the the
varname as well.  Also, I got the same error you did initially. but it ended
up being that my procparam for teamdesc was set to CF_SQL_INTEGER when it
was a VARCHAR in the proc itself. (cut and paste error).

Here is a query that works for me.

value="#form.newTeamNum#">

value="#form.currentDistrict#">

value="#form.teamDesc#">

And here is the stored proc script.

CREATE PROC rgis_TeamAdd2

Well, I'm sure there's no problem with the ASP.NET stuff on Windows Server
2003, so my guess is that it's with Netegrity's ISAPI filter. Perhaps
there's a newer version, or you're running the newer version in IIS 5
compatibility mode?

What ISAPI filters are you loading into IIS? CFMX doesn't use an ISAPI
filter with IIS 6, it uses ISAPI extensions only.

HTTPFilter Service has to be hosted in inetinfo.exe for Raw ISAPI filters to

HTTPFilter for configuration changes to be taken into effect.

OT: Windows 2003 Error

I am getting the following error in Windows 2003 and it shuts down the IIS

This error has been happening randomly for quite some time now.  The box has

If you went this route, Paypal can then place a negative mark on your
credit report.  They can also send it to collections which will further
negatively impact your credit.  So if you're looking to buy a home or

any other line of credit I highly suggest that you not go this route.

zip code based dealer locator

2004-09-20 Thread Jeff Fongemie
Hi Everyone,

I need a dealer locator based on zip codes. I guess there are two parts, the database and the code. Anyone know of a good zip code database for sale or free? With a google search I find a large difference in pricing. Can anyone recommend a good one?

Is this thing difficult to build? I've found some free code and a few cheap or free custom tags out there. Looks like none work with Access database.

Can anyone recommend from experience one of the available custom tags available?

Thanks for any info on this.

Makes total sense. It's how I ultimately went, and agree, it does read a lot
easier and make more sense when going thru the code.

Aha...this also makes a lot of sense too. I thought that you could somehow
return the role a user was in, but I had it mixed up. I'm sure I would've
discovered that in about two or three minutes...lol...

But in looking at how you described users and groups makes sense, I guess I
had just never applied that kind of thinking to my applications. So you have
groups in a table, and keep track of who's in what group with a lookup table
then, no? That's really cool.

It's an int. regular ol' foreign key, nothing fancy.

Oh, I know! I know! I mean, I figured it would just be good practice to pull
the roles into another table, because they want to keep additional
information, not just the string with the role type, so naturally I just
pulled it out into another table. Not to mention, wouldn't you want to do
this to "roll up" your user roles? Couldn't I say, use that rule to say
something like:

Right?

Oh, and to add to this. I went ahead and re-wrote the query so it's a join
and actually returns the string of the type. So instead of
ToString(Login.OwnerType_fk) I just actually pass in the string with the
guy's role.

Oh well. I got it to work, and found something that stumped people in the
process. All in all a good day, I'd say.

Not only that, as soon as I wrapped that output in a tostring(), it worked.
Example:

password="#OwnerEmail#" roles="#Login.OwnerTypeID_fk#">

Throws an error.

password="#OwnerEmail#" roles="#ToString(Login.OwnerTypeID_fk)#">

Works like a charm.

Now, is that weird? Or did I overlook something in CF Class?

Sorry, I was trimming the names for email. They're named the EXACT same. I
was just typing from memory, then went and pasted my cflogin.

I got the value, by *dragging* the name from the bindings tab in
Dreamweaver. Then even *verified* that it was named the same. I even dumped
it again to make sure. It's the same.

Okay, here's EXACTLY what's going on...Re: Completely baffled...

2004-09-17 Thread Jeff Small
I've narrowed it down to a cfloginuser tag.

I'm querying a table to return * (fname, lname, ID, email, Type_ID_fk) after
passing in form variables.

This is working. I can dump the query and see it all. (Jeff, Small, 1,
[EMAIL PROTECTED], 1)

Type_ID_fk is a foreign key to a table. I only really have two types of
users, but the types are stored in another table with information about the
type, etc. I store the ID to the type in the login table.

Now...here's where it gets interesting.

password="#OwnerEmail#" roles="#Login.OwnerTypeID_fk#">

throws the error. *however*

password="#OwnerEmail#" roles="1">

does NOT throw an error. Even though the *VALUE* of #Login.OwnerTypeID_fk#
IS '1'.

Why does it throw an error if I dynamically put a '1' in there, and not
throw one if I explicitly put in '1'?

Okay, a better reply is that it appears that the following JSP package import ...

<% page language="java" import="com.plumtree.remote.portlet.*" %>

... is actually comparable to ...

class="com.plumtree.remote.portlet.AggregationMode" name="AggregationMode">

... etc. for all 15 classes in this package.

So, is there a simpler way to do this?  It would be ideal, as it is in JSP, to
have all of the objects already created and ready to use without having to
perform N cfobject calls at the top of a template.

Completely baffled...

2004-09-17 Thread Jeff Small
I'm getting the following error:

Error Occurred While Processing Request
The system has attempted to use an undefined value, which usually indicates
a programming error, either in your code or some system code.
Null Pointers are another name for undefined values.

And I have NO IDEA where it's coming from...it's isolating a line of code
that's a comment, and just after the comment is a value that I've checked,
double checked and triple checked. It's spelled correctly, etc...

I comment out the offending line of code, and anothe line below it gives the
same error.

What's going on? WindowsXPPro, CFMX 6.1, DWMX2004...what am I missing?

RE: Java Import -> CF

2004-09-17 Thread Jeff Chastain
Well, the com.plumtree.remote.portlet.* namespace is part of a jar that is
already referenced in the CF administrator.  I have all of that setup.

However, it appears that when the package is being imported in JSP, that some
constructor or something is being called that instantiates the
'CommunityAccessLevel.Edit' class and static variable automatically.  This is
what I am trying to duplicate.

If I just add the path to the jar file in the Administrator classpath, it is not
giving me the same result as the JSP import.   So, I need to figure out what
the missing piece is between the two.

Thanks

RE: Java Import -> CF

Okay, I have the terminology figured out a little better now, so lets see if
this helps.

The JSP page is including a package which apparently instantiates the
CommunityAccessLevel class on import.  So, in ColdFusion, how can you import a
Java package?

I could just create a new object based upon this class, I am just not sure that
is the best answer.

Thanks

RE: Java Import -> CF

2004-09-17 Thread Jeff Chastain
Okay, maybe with some more context, you can help me out with this then.  I
have the following JSP code that I am attempting to convert to CF.

<% page language="java" import="com.plumtree.remote.portlet.*" %>
<%
    IPortletContext context =
PortletContextFactory.createPortletContext(request, response);
    IPortletUser portletUser = context.getUser();

    if ( CommunityAccessLevel.Edit ==
portletUser.getCurrentCommunityAccessLevel() ) {

I have the CF code that handles the first two object declarations (via
cfobject).  Where I am running into problems is in the IF statement with the
'CommunityAccessLevel.Edit'.  There is nothing in the page before this that
declares a CommunityAccessLevel object.  In reading the documentation for
this API, CommunityAccessLevel is a class in the plumtree.remote.portlet
namespace that has a static field called Edit.

So, how would I translate this into CF?

Thanks for your help.

Import in Java doesn't instatiate anything, all it does is make a reference
used by the compiler to use shorthand access to packages so you don't have
to write out the whole package name every time you reference a class in that
package.

The closest equivalent in CF would be:
