RE: ospf

2000-06-15 Thread Brad Beck

Actually it's like this...

The first permited address is 10.11.216.193, then every other odd
decimal...so in the end it's:
10.11.216.193
10.11.216.195
10.11.216.197, etc...

63 = 0  0   1   1   1   1   1   0

Checking the following bits: 128, 64, and 1. First permited address is 193.

IPSEC/ VPN query

2000-06-15 Thread Winchester, Derek S.

Hey Guys,

I have a site that needs to connect to another site over the Internet. The
other site is using VPN/IPSEC. I have no experience with VPN/IPSEC, but I
have to clear a path so that my firewall(PIX) will not continue to block the
connection. Any insight to this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Frame Relay switch

2000-06-15 Thread M Z

Thanks Atef and Nigel for your responses,
the two other questions I have are
1)how do you make the switch auto-sense the LMI type, or is that a function
of the router?
2)in the command frame-relay route 100 interface serial 2 200
are the 100 , 200 refer to the DLCI's and that is the command I need to map
a PVC between DLCI 100 and DLCI 200.

Thanks so much.

Re: Frame Relay switch

2000-06-15 Thread Atif Awan

1) Auto-sensing is a feature of the router IOS. IOS versios 11.2 and later
support LMI auto sensing.

2) Yeah 100 and 200 are the DLCIs and this command establishes a PVC.

Sub-interface access-list question

2000-06-15 Thread Buddy Venne

All-
Can I apply an access list to a sub-interface?
Background:
Generally a hub and spoke network. Company "A" at central site, company "X"
15 miles away.
Central site router is a 7204, need to have only company "X" network _not_
learn our routes, but still have 2 dynamic routes back to us. All other
remote sites can learn all routes.
The routing protocol is eigrp, and the two paths between company "X" and
central are point-point T1 and Frame Relay. Remote router is a 3640. The
frame relay connection is multipoint frame relay on a subinterface here.
thanks

NetWare 5 Pure IP Login Across Subnets

2000-06-15 Thread Seth Wilson

We have a Netware 5 server -- IP plus IPX, for our
CNE lab work -- whose IPaddress is 10.0.0.99 and a client -- IP only --
whose address is198.56.78.13.  The server's subnet connects to E0 on a
2501 -- address10.0.0.2.  The client's subnet connects to E0/0 on a
3801 -- address198.56.78.1.  The 2501 and the 3801 are back-to-back and
all machines acrossthe board can ping cleanly by name or
address. When I move the client to the server's subnet and set its IP to
10.0.0.13,login works just fine.  So login over IP is okay.  But
when it's on198.56.78.13, the client reports it can't find the tree or
server.  But asnoted, it can ping the server by name or address.
So I conclude that theproblem is the broadcast that starts the login
process.I set E0/0 on the 3801 to "ip helper-address 10.0.0.99" and
still cannotlogin.   From the packets I captured, it looks like
the initial broadcast isNetBIOS Datagram Service, which I thought ought to
be forwarded when the IPhelper-address is configured.  I am getting a
little out of my depth here ifyou haven't noticed. Can anybody
suggest what else I need to do to get the routers to forwardthis IP Netware
login broadcast?Thanks,

~Seth~

Re: IPSEC/ VPN query

2000-06-15 Thread Javier Contreras

Hi
You can open with conduits/access list for protocols 50 and 51 (ESP and AH)
to let pass the ipsec connection, plus UDP for port 500 ( I think) for the
ISAKMP
connection if you are using IKE or similar.
BUT I would recomend you don´t let pass a ipsec tunnel through your firewall,
as it can not inspect it. The "correct" way would be to end the tunnel in the
pix,
and the process the traffic to let it pass or not.

2000-06-15 Thread Arnaud V.

Hi everybody,

I have 2 offices with a leased line between them in
Frame-Relay. At one office I have got a Nortel PBX and
at the other side an little Alcatel PBX. For the
routeur I thought using a 3640 and a 1750.

Here are my questions:
How can i configure the routers(Bandwith, frame-relay
trafic shapping, Be, Bc, CIR)?
How can I avoid adding a card in the PBXs?
Can I directly link my router with the telephone jack?
What card should I use on the routers?
Should i configure the PBXs?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your help, I have one more question :
The bandwidth for a p-to-p connnection, should that be
1544 Mbs as compared to 1536 Mbs since there is no

Re: ??good Case study on LAN/WAN

2000-06-15 Thread George

I think you could find some case from those equipments which running giga-ethernet
interface and voice/video features. For giga technology, I used to get some information
from cisco GSR and catalyst 6500 series, also Juniper M40 ( www.juniper.net ). But note
if you study a new equipment which vendor sales introduce to you with 'perfect'
capability,
be careful to use it. We experienced too much bugs in them, both Cisco GSR or Bay
Accelar Switching. One thing I suggest is, don't trust vendor too much, especially
those
equipments in 'best performance'.

Re: NAT Pool

2000-06-15 Thread Javier Contreras

Hola Paco

>From cisco, 1 ip address can support aprox. 64000 tcp connections, but
remember that each machine can open several tcp connections while
browsing.
A very bad example is IExplorer, which can open 6 or 7 simultaneus
connections.
Netscape is limited (i think) to 4. So you can do some math.

So 1 Ip should be enough for 150 machines doing browsing. Take care
which
router you use (If you do heavy browsing a 800 maybe can not handle the
load)
As allways, try to reserve IP for static translation if you plan to
publish
services to the internet (mail, web, etc)

And remember that there will be some protocols/programs which don´t work

with NAT.

Saludos!

Actually it's like this...

The first permited address is 10.11.216.193, then every other odd
decimal...so in the end it's:
10.11.216.193
10.11.216.195
10.11.216.197, etc...

63 = 0  0   1   1   1   1   1   0

Checking the following bits: 128, 64, and 1. First permited address is 193.

RE: ??good Case study on LAN/WAN

2000-06-15 Thread Chuck Larrieu

As always, a good place to start is
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/home/home.htm

There is a wealth of good information on the documentation home page.

If you have a cd as found in the box of any cisco product you purchase, so
much the better.

Design principals remain the same, no matter what the technology in
question. Understanding your design goals, business and technological
requirements, underlying protocol behavior all are important.

BTW you really gonna run gig ethernet to the desktop? All right! :->
read up carefully on the current state of things. Does your cable
infrastructure support this? Distance limitations? I believe that gig over
copper is now doable at distances up to 100 meters. But you have to be very
careful with your end points. What little I have run into is still server to
backbone switch or switch to switch distribution in a campus environment
over fiber.

Priscilla Oppenheimer's book Top Down Network Design is a classic, and
remains timeless because of the concentration on fundamentals as mentioned
above. If you want to get into some real in depth stuff, Howard Berkowitz'
books are worth reading.
But as stated earlier, there are some excellent materials on CCO and all it
costs is the paper you use to print it out.

Best wishes

Chuck

Do I need a RADIUS server for IPsec?

2000-06-15 Thread Patrick Gannon

Hello all,

I am implementing Cisco Secure VPN client v. 1.1 in a client-router
config. The router has IOS firewall feature set with IPsec capability. I
will be using a third-party CA (Verisign). Will I need to implement a
RADIUS, TACAS, or Kerberos server anywhere on my network, or will the router
handle all authentication?

Thanks in advance,

Hi.

I'm an absolute beginner to Cisco, and I'm looking for some online resources
that would be good to get the ball rolling for my CCNA. Is there any good
books that I could buy or any websites that start me with the fundamentals??

RE: VLSM Question

2000-06-15 Thread Hallgren, Michael

You've got (the last) three bits on the third octet to play with, which
leaves you with 2^3 = 8 cont. numbers (the first one being 168) : 168,
169,..., 175.

You may also think of the /21 as 2 /22s, so 4 /23s, so 8 /24s.

Re: Is this true?

2000-06-15 Thread David R. Lease

Dear All:

As much as I hate to send "me toos," I couldn't help my self on
this one. When I read the initial post, I just chalked it up to
PHB syndrome. Then I thought about it. This is an example of
just how STOOPID things can get:

We have five very competent folks maintaining and expanding a
client's network. A CCIE, two CCNPs, an MCSE + CCNP, and a
MCSE+I. Last month, the client's "technical" rep tells me my
folks need certifications in MS LAN Manager. I explained that LAN
Manager cert was retired long ago and superceded by MCSE.
Went to MS web site. Called the MS rep. Client Tech Rep is
suspicious, but goes away.

Last week, he came back. Said everyone needs CCNA. I explained
CCIE and CCNP are above CCNA and subsume CCNA content. Went to
Cisco web site. Called Cisco rep. Client says requirement stays.
So I have 5 guys who get to take the CCNA. (SIGH).

At least I got the client to pay for the exam, time off the job,
and time and one half for the guys filling in during exams.

The moral of the story? There isn't one. This week the client's
tech rep. wanted everyone to have -- are you ready --??

Microsoft Certified Novell Engineer cert. I told him to sign us
all up and tell us the date, time, and location for the exam. Oh
yeah, the network is NT and NFS -- so the Novell stuff will REALLY
come in handy.

And for the wiseguys out there -- I DO know there is no such thing
as a MS Certified Novell Engineer!

frame-relay design

2000-06-15 Thread cisco cabanaboy

If you had 3 locations in a hub and spoke topology,
then you would want two pvcs going to each
site...(using subinterfaces), how do the numbers
change as you add remote sites...

e.g. if you add the 4th site, do you have to add a pvc
to every other site?, totalling 3 pvcs/subinterfaces ?

so would that mean if you had 100 sites it would
require n-1 (99) pvcs/dlcis/subints per location...?

i may be way off

You can use either of the three or you can add the users manually to the

Re: NetWare 5 Pure IP Login Across Subnets

2000-06-15 Thread Joe Pinkus

Seth,
By default, Novell IP clients discover IP services via multicast. Unless
some other method is configured, ip clients will try attempt to discover
the server by multicasting SLP packets. By default, IOS Routers will filter
mutlicast packets.

Router Solution: Enable "ip multicast-routing" and enable "ip pim"
under each respective interface.
Novell Workaround #1
>From Novell Documenet: 2944038
Add server name and IP address entries in the NWHost file on
the workstation. The NWHOST file is located on the workstation in the
Novell\Client32 directory on Win95 and Win98 workstations. It has samples
that are easy to follow.
On an NT Workstation, instead of NWHost the client uses the standard
MicroSoft TCPIP host file.  Edit the host file to add the server name
and address. The path to this file is Winnt/System32/Drivers/Etc/Hosts.
Novell Workaround #2
>From Novell Document 2944038
Load SLPDA.NLM on the NetWare 5 Server. This defines the server as a
Directory Agent. Add the IP Address of the server running the SLPDA.NLM
under properties of the client, Service Location Tab, Directory Agent list.
Click on the box next to the Directory Agent box labeled "Static." With
a static directoy agent defined, the client will not multicast for a directory
agent, but will send a unicast to the specified directory agent.
For an overview of SLP (Service Location Protocol) and a discussion
of Directory Agents, see tid 2943614.

198.56.78.1.  The 2501 and the
3801 are back-to-back and all machines across
the board can ping cleanly by name

When I move the client to the server's
subnet and set its IP to 10.0.0.13,
login works just fine.  So login
over IP is okay.  But when it's on
198.56.78.13, the client reports it
can't find the tree or server.  But as
noted, it can ping the server by name
or address.  So I conclude that the
problem is the broadcast that starts
the login process.
I set E0/0 on the 3801 to "ip helper-address
10.0.0.99" and still cannot
login.   From the packets
I captured, it looks like the initial broadcast is
NetBIOS Datagram Service, which I
thought ought to be forwarded when the IP
helper-address is configured.
I am getting a little out of my depth here if
you haven't noticed.
Can anybody suggest what else I need
to do to get the routers to forward
this IP Netware login broadcast?

Re: VLSM Question

2000-06-15 Thread Howard C. Berkowitz

>I have a guestion regarding VLSM
>How many subnet addresses can be summarized by 172.108.168.0/21?
>how could you calculate it?
>thanks in advance.
>

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. Do you want to know the
total number of available host addresses in a /21? Or are you
looking for the number of subnets?

If the first, you are committing 21 bits of a 32 bit address to the
prefix, so you have the number of hosts that can fit into 32-21 = 11
bits. You compute the number of available host addresses in N bits
with the formula (2**N)-2.

If you are looking for the number of sub-prefixes, there's no
specific answer because you can set up multiple levels of subnetting.
The basic rule is:

1 /21

2 /22
  4 /23
 8 /24
16 /25
   32 /26
   64 /27
  128 /28

But you could, for example, have:

3 /23 for 500-host LANs 1 /23 divided into
24 /28 for remote office LANs
32 /30 for WAN links to remote offices

An excellent reference is http://www.isi.edu/in-notes/rfc1878.txt

And, of course, there's this excellent book by a modest guy named
Berkowitz, _Designing Addressing Architectures for Routing and
Switching_

Re: Frame Relay and DE bit

Larry,
I'm a newbie on FR, however, I would compare your
in PACKETS with your in DE PACKETS and you are losing
2/3rds of your data. I would look at increasing your
CIR by 2/3rds as a result. Unless of course nobody is
complaining about the access speed ?

You can also put a router in one of the DMZs, and
terminate the VPN tunnels there, this is the pretyy

The best summary for these networks is 172.108.168.0/21 and 172.108.198.0/23,
because you have to find out the a common prefix for all networks.

Hi all,

Could somebody briefly clarify how to summarize two IP addresses.
I have the Todd Lammle ACRC exam notes book and it just ain't clear!
Also, has anyone used the study guides and practice exams from Network study
guides (www.networkstudyguides.com) I'm particularly interested in them as
they have info out on the new CCNP routing 2 exam - material on this seems
rare at the moment. Any opinions welcome. Thanks in advance

Re: New Starter

2000-06-15 Thread John Neiberger

First, go to www.cisco.com everyday and explore. It has a tremendous amount
of information. You'll be doing this anyway, so you might as well get used
to it now.

A couple of books I bought in the beginning might be helpful to you. I
picked up the Sybex CCNA study guide by Todd Lammle, a very handy tutorial.
You may want to wait a few weeks until the newer books start coming out.
The CCNA test changed recently so the new study guides should be out
shortly.

Another book that helped me immensely: The LAN Times Guide to Wide Area
Networking. This will help you understand what people are talking about
when they mention frame relay, ISDN, T1, DS0, AMI, B8ZS, ESF, etc.

Another GREAT book that is mostly for more advanced people but I wish I'd
gotten right from the beginning: Routing TCP/IP by Jeff Doyle. The first
few chapters give the best introduction to networking that I've read. The
rest of the book will be exceptionally useful to you and you'll want to get
a copy of this sometime...it might as well be sooner rather than later. But
get it after you've read a couple of these other books.

The new Cisco course for CCNA level people is ICND, Interconnecting Cisco
Network Devices. If there is a CiscoPress book for this out, you'd be well
served to get a copy of that, as well. It covers TCP/IP basics, addressing,
OSI model, switching, ISDN, frame relay, etclots of great topics. I
took a look at the course books for this class the other day and I'm VERY
impressed at how they've improved it over the original ICRC class.

HTH,

John Neiberger, CCNA/CCDA

Re: frame-relay design

2000-06-15 Thread Phil Barker

Assuming one Hub and 99 spokes you would need 99
"frame-relay interface-dlci" statements per site if
you wanted to talk to every remote site.
I cannot see this being a practicle solution
though, i.e You would be committing a massive 'single
point of failure at the Hub', plus I very much doubt
that all the sites would want direct access to each
other anyway.

RE: ISDN question

2000-06-15 Thread Rampley, Jim

It depends on what type of traffic the BRI is being used for and how much
data is being sent/received. The best thing you could do is to pull stats
off the pipeline 50 with SNMP with a tool like MRTG, Lucent VitalNet,
Concord NetHealth, HP Openview depending on your budget ;) so you can view
stats over time.

How many users can I reasonably connect to a ISDN BRI before I start
to see a latency issue? I have a customer that has 60-70 customers
connected
to a pipeline P50. IMHO this is killing the ISDN connection.
Any other things I need to look out for because I am not that familiar
with ISDN.

RE: FR lmi-type and subinterfaces

2000-06-15 Thread David Wolsefer

You can configure LMI type on the physical interface, not on the
subinterface. You are also correct that lmi type is auto-detected if IOS is
version 11.2 or above. I have found the auto-detect feature to be reliable,
but some others feel differently. It has worked every time for me though. I
like to use auto-detect because I had a case where the translations people
went and arbitrarily changed LMI type on the frame-relay switches from Cisco
to CCITT, which brought down those routers with LMI hard coded, but those
using auto-detect made the change with no problem.

David Wolsefer

There's also a problem with desktops supporting those speeds. No matter how

RE: CDP and Frame Relay Link

2000-06-15 Thread Taylor, Don

CDP is enabled by default, but it's recommened that you disable it once you
get the WAN running because it's overhead traffic, and, in case of an
Internet connection, it's a well-known address (i.e. hackable).

Is the CDP protocol disabled by default on serial interfaces? I could not
see CDP neigbours accross a Frame Relay link.

RE: Frame Relay and DE bit

2000-06-15 Thread Sereno, Patrick
Title: RE: Frame Relay and DE bit

Larry,

The DE bit specifies that the Frame Relay network may discard this frame if it encounters congestion between the ingress and egress.  Generally speaking, the DE 'should' be set by your ingress router for all frames transmitted that exceed your CIR during the sample period (1 second).

The 'out bytes' counter is only related to the other 'out *' counters. In this case, you're transmitting no DE frames.  This tells me that 1) your router is not setting the DE bit on frames that exceed CIR, or 2) your traffic is not exceeding the outbound CIR.  If 2, then you've got low utilization or your CIR matches your physical bandwidth.  As for case 1, you must configure the router to set DE when exceeding CIR.  I believe this is a new feature, IOS 12 or 11.3.  However, I've never configured it.  Additionally, I don't think most Frame providers pay attention to it (I may be mistaken).

What's the significance of the DE (Discard Eligible)

Considering the volume of 'out bytes', is this ratio to

And what would I do to correct it?

Access-lists question??

2000-06-15 Thread Palikhey, Niraj

Hi,
I am trying to understand something with access-lists. They say that when
you put in a new entry to an existing access-list, it will be written at the
end of the existing list. So If I have a deny any any at the end of the list
and I add a new entry that says permit 10.20.16.20, this will not work as
this entry will be added at the end of the list. But when I do a sh
access-lists or a sh run, I see that the new entry is not at the bottom of
the existing list. I am trying to understand, even though it is not at the
bottom, when the access-list is read, will it find it before the deny any
any or not? Moreover, I have read that the Cisco IOS will rearrange the
list. Is this the reason that the new entry does not show at the bottom but
will work as entered in the end?
Please advise.
Thank you.
Kind regards,
Niraj

IMO that makes this exam wayyy easier than ACRC.

Greetings from new CCNA!

2000-06-15 Thread deltan

(last try posting this out...apologies if you happened
to see it more than once)
--

Greetings from a newbie in this group!

I finally took my CCNA last week with a score of 906.
However, I got a real low 40% in network security that
I have NO way to believe! I answered all the related
questions with full confidence, and I know my level of
security knowledge/experience (Cisco or not) as I used
to work in network security with a tier-1 ISP, plus I
run ipfw on UNIX on a daily basis (Cisco access lists
are pretty much the same as closed-type ipfw, IMHO).

Honestly, I am very curious about what the heck was
going on with my answers and the scoring system! --
Is there ANY way to talk to Cisco or Sylvan Prometric
to find out (I'm willing to pay! :^)) ??

Also, a few questions:

1) any pros and cons on skipping CCNP and taking CCIE
   (written) directly?
2) any recommended books for CCNP and CCIE (written)?

Thanks a bunch,-deltan

RE: Diff between point to point T1 and T1 with framerelay

There's no frame relay overhead, but PPP and even the default Cisco HDLC
encapsulation are still protocols, and have associated overhead. Framing
still has to take place, even if it's not the "frame relay" encapsulation.

My question is about this line:

dialer map ip 192.168.10.1 name router2 broadcast
dialer map ip 192.168.10.1 name router2 broadcast

They are the same line. What did they leave off here? If you type
it in the way they have it you get:

adw-gw(config-if)#isdn spid2 1101070002
%isdn spid2 not allowed for 5ESS BRI custom

I assume this is caused by the incorrect line above. Seems funny
they would say router2 since they are already on router2. Or is this
cause due to me using the basic-5ess?

Re: CID retiring???

2000-06-15 Thread Robert Padjen

To my knowledge Cisco has no plans to retire CID. In
fact, it is likely that this exam will become more
important with the CCIE Design track. Normally Cisco
takes about six months from the announcement of a beta
to retire a test, so (presumably) we're looking at the
current test until 2001. Note, the current test
objectives are dated and based on course materials
from 1997, so it would be a good idea to prepare for
the exam outside of 'current' activities.

Hey,

It looks like your supervisor engine is running 4.3(1a). I believe that the
supervisor engine scans the bus and detects what modules are installed and
initializes them or something along those lines. Anyhow, it should be like
upgrading a router to versoin 4.5. CCO should have some docs on updating
the IOS but it should be a straight TFPT download. Hope that helps.

Re: Traffic shapping

2000-06-15 Thread Michael Fountain

What you are wanting to do is not strictly traffic shaping, but queueing.

Traffic shaping is making sure that you are sending x amount of traffic into
the network. It doesn't discriminate between types of traffic. you use it
to set your router to send at a minimum of your contracted CIR.

With queueing you can determine what sort of traffic which how much of a
percentage of the bandwidth.

There is two ways you can go about this -
  1) with custom queueing you can guarantee that all traffic will get a
chance to be sent, and you can change the queue sizes to try and set a
percentage.
  2) with priority queueing you can guarantee that the mail traffic will go,
and the rest of the traffic will go if there is room.

For custom queueing, you can do something simliar to this:

queue-list 1 protocol ip 1 tcp smtp
queue-list 1 protocol ip 1 tcp
queue-list 1 default 2
queue-list 1 queue 1 byte-count 1500
queue-list 1 queue 2 byte-count 3000

what this does -
line 1 - put smtp traffic in queue 1
  line 2 - put x.400 traffic in queue 1 - note: i'm not familiar
with x.400, so I don't know the exact command. It would
depend on what ports x.400 ran over, and if they were
  different from smtp.
line 3 - put everything else into queue 2
line 4 - send 1500 bytes from queue 1 before going to queue 2
line 5 - send 3000 bytes form queue 2 before going to queue 1

becuase of the queue sizes queue 1 should be able to send 1500 bytes for
every 3000 bytes of other traffic. Which means it should be about 1/3 of
the total traffic on the link when queueing is needed. So, for a 64K line,
that should be about 20K.

Note: this is based on average packet sizes being 1500. Again, I don't know
enough about smtp and x.400 to say what the real average packet size is, so
those byte-count numbers may have to be adjusted to compensate if the real
numbers are different.

to use priority queueing -

priority-list 1 protocol ip high tcp smtp
priority-list 1 protocol ip high tcp

what this does -
puts the mail traffic in the high priority queue. this means that it will
always be sent, even at the expense of the data traffic, if the link is
congested and has to queue. The other traffic will fall into the default
queue which is normal priority.

again, I don't know if the second line is needed, it would depend on the
specifics of the x.400 protocol.

hope that helps some.
   mike

That's what I was wondering. If it's just OSPF, EIGRP, BGP (and

ACRC.

RE: Frame Relay and DE bit

2000-06-15 Thread Chuck Larrieu

Ratio of DE packets to in packets is irrelevant. It tells nothing about your
reliability. It does not necessarily mean that you are losing data. What the
DE stat does tell you is that you are exceeding your CIR substantially. You
may just be getting more than your money's worth, maybe?

FECN and BECN stats don't indicate a lot of carrier side congestion at all.

A better way to analyze your frame relay usage and reliability is to install
some kind of monitoring and analysis tool at both ends. There are third
parties that sell such things.

Otherwise, you have to listen to the users, and maybe run some tests
yourself during business hours and observe what happens.

Larry,
I'm a newbie on FR, however, I would compare your
in PACKETS with your in DE PACKETS and you are losing
2/3rds of your data. I would look at increasing your
CIR by 2/3rds as a result. Unless of course nobody is
complaining about the access speed ?

I have seven Sylvan Prometric testing vouchers for sale. Each one is good for
any of the CCNA/CCNP tests that are required for certification. The tests
cost $100.00, I'll let the vouchers go for $50.00 a piece. Let me know if

RE: Routing 2.0 Exam outline and theory

2000-06-15 Thread Rik Guyler

Yes, but he who hath power over BGP doth indeed carry a big stick!

While the scope of topics on this exam are seemingly more narrow, the topics
themselves can be fairly deep. You not only need to know the specific
commands to configure the router, but also how is it going to behave and
play with all the others in the same and other sandboxes. I would not
consider this exam any "easier". Just different.

Just perusing the exam outline

and some advanced theory.

IMO that makes this exam wayyy easier than ACRC.

Re: PPP or HDLC pros and cons

Keep in mind that if you use HDLC, you have to be sticking with a particular
vendor...
HDLC is a little better for troubleshooting...but my pref is to use PPP.

That way you can use things like PPP CHAP authentication and other neat
features of PPP.

Then type
Router>o/r0x42 ENTER
Then type
Router>I This will reinitialized the router

When the router boots it will prompt you to enter the initial configuration.
Answer yes to ALL of the setup questions.

Then change back the boot sequence register back to its original setings to

BCMSN easy!

2000-06-15 Thread Henry_Malmgren

I just got finished with BCMSN. 66 questions in 90 minutes. At least 1/3
of the questions were very close to each other. I got an 846 out of 1000
with a 699 needed to pass. My worst section was CGMP, so know that. The
sections listed on the scoring part of the test are:

CGMP
Cisco Fundamentals
Multicast
Multilayer Switching
Spanning Tree
Switching Interconnectivity
Troubleshooting
Trunking
VLAN Operations.

I really thought that this was an easier test then the CCNA exam. I'll
answer questions to the extent that I can without breaking the NDA.

To coin a phrase, what is the problem you are trying to solve? What
does the ISP do now? I don't usually think of an ISP as a frame relay
provider, although they can be.

I'm not sure if you need a VPN over the general internet (sounds
unlikely if you want to get rid of the ISP), if you have your own WAN
transmission links, or what.
