The part number is that there isn't a part number because Cisco doesn't

such a cable.

Does anyone know what the Cisco part number of the DB60 DTE to DB60

based
on cable length, so let's use a 6 foot cable.

Surf the CCO under Switch Probe. Cisco sold these in 99 2000.

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/477/SP/50.shtml

You'll need traffic director or NetScout NGenius to gather information.
The CCO (if I remember correctly) has software upgrades up to 4.7.

You are correct when noticing the lack of website support from NetScout.
I worked with this for a couple of years and preferred Cisco's support
hands down.

No ROMMON on this one- in 2500 boot mode there's o/r 0x41 (natural
boot process) or 42 (42 being the load without NVRAM configs). Then
type I or b to reload the router with the new config register settings.

Issue a break and stop the bootup sequence. Go into rommon mode and
change
the config-reg to 0x142. Reload and erase your config (WR E) when it
goes
into bootrom mode. Change your config-reg back to 0x2102 and reboot the
router. Let me know if that does not work.

RE: 2500 won't boot...any ideas? [7:41414]

2002-04-14 Thread Circusnuts_1999

Ed- I'm trying to make sense of the output and your trouble shooting
steps, as explained in your E-mail. If the 2511 did not have 11.0(10c)
ROMs, then the router would more or less hang-up when upgraded beyond
11.3 or 12.0 (I don't remember the cutoff for the 10.0 ROMs).

If the router seems to be choking with the use of 12.2, issue the Cntrl
BREAK upon bootup and reload an older IOS (say 12.0 or 12.1) to rule out
some sort of bug. Though I have not had issues with 12.2 in my 2500s,
this code is not a GR (General Release) and most definitely could be
reacting with the FLASH and RAM manufacturer combination that have
going on in your 2511.

There is also a slim chance you have zapped the RAM (rare but true).

Anywho- I believe what you are showing us here is an issue where the
memory works fine in the 2522. The Read Only seems a little weird
(after the 16 Megs FLASH), but then again... certain versions of code
read this way and in the upgrade process automatically call for a
software reload that enables the Read Only to change upon coming back
up.

If I've missed the boat, please offer more info. For better or worse, I
have probably upgraded no less than a 100 2500s and 3000s (Y2K) in the
few short years I have been working on Cisco.

All the best !!!
Phil

RE: Cisco Memory [7:41266]

2002-04-14 Thread Circusnuts_1999

The best place for FLASH would be Ebay. I think if you're shopping for
2500- you will find an 8 Meg stick ranges from $35 to $50. This is a
far cry from the $100 to $150 it once sold for just a few short years
ago.

As far as RAM- that's and easy one. The specs are:
16 Megs/ 72 Pin/ 60ns/ Parity

You should be able to pick up a 16 Meg stick for less than $10. I have
ordering RAM from M.C. Howard Electronics [[EMAIL PROTECTED]] for
approximately 3 years now. You'll need to know the specs when dealing
with these guys (refer to the above paragraph).

On the topic of FLASH and RAM- I have had nothing short of perfect
service from Jeff @ PC Wholesale [[EMAIL PROTECTED]]. I buy most
all my FLASH and RAM for the 2600s from him.

I have found both of these sellers so trustworthy- that I generally
E-mail them with what I need and pay them without directly (without
using Ebay).

All the best !!!

(est depending on your timezone location)
clock timezone est -5
clock summer-time est recurring

(Then point to an NTP public time server close to your timezone )
( Here are some public NTP servers

ntp server ip-address

This way your switch will sync and pick the right time.

I can't seem to find any documentation on Cisco's site regarding this.

2002-04-06 Thread Circusnuts_1999

Eddie- I actually decoded the RAM #'s and ordered non-Cisco. I found a
reseller on Ebay who treated me very well [EMAIL PROTECTED] I think I
paid something like $36 for the (2) 32 Meg matched sticks.

Remember to shop for the RAM by specs:
32bit, 72pin EDO SIMM, 2k, 60ns

Also- for the FLASH, 8 Megs of 2500 series will do. A PCMCIA card can
be installed into you Slot:0 or Slot:1, but I would venture the FLASH
stick to be your cheapest option.

It's all on Ebay :o)

All the best !!!

Hello,

I need some help in answering a few questions.

If i have a supervisor III (WS-X5530-E1) with no uplink modules on a Cat
5500, and need to know the minimum requirements to be able to load a
newer IOS.

First of all, do I need at least one switching module installed, or is
there another way to upload the IOS?

The memory on the Sup III is 32DRAM/4Flash. Is this configuration
compatible with version 6.3(3a)?

I can't seem to find any documentation on Cisco's site regarding this.

Thanks in advance!

If you use 4k refresh memory on 2k board, then the

Subject: AGS+ parts needed! [7:39921]

Hi all,

I recently purchased an AGS+ on eBay and unfortunately it was damaged in
shipment. Please don't waste BW telling me the shortcomings of the AGS+
over the 2520 series -- I already know that -- but cost was a major
factor!

Anyway, the area that was damaged was the on/off switch. Also the metal
guard around the switch and the back plate. Very simply, the seller did
not
package the router correctly and left a space between the rear of the
router
and the side of the box. During shipment, the router probably
constantly
slid back and forth, with the switch each time hitting against the side
of
the box and whatever solid object was on the outside. The plates
probably
can be reshaped with some careful banging and tapping. But the main
item is the on/off switch!

It has a neck which broke off from the main part of the switch with each
part having a part that the other needs for the whole to function.

In any event, I have searched the CCO to no avail!! Does anyone have
any
idea as to how/where I can obtain a replacement switch?? Any and all
suggestions will be quite welcome.

Thanks to all in advance.

RE: CCIE starting pay [7:33899]

2002-01-31 Thread Circusnuts_1999

Contract companies generally find this a good situation. I've seen on
many occasions where an experienced CCIE will start a contract, then he
or she (the versed CCIE) will become part-time and a much much less
experienced (usually new CCIE or a former instructor) will enter into
the picture. It's a win for the new guy because he or she is getting
the much needed experience (@ a nervous pace I might add), it's a win
for the contract company that is paying the CCIE peanuts and billing big
CCIE dollars for their employee, but unfortunately the customer
generally loses. I have seen entire government (hard to get fired)
contracts canceled after 12 months of shenanigans such as these.

No, not at all. Here's my take on this. First off: No company in
their
right minds will take a 'CCIE with no work experience' and pay him/her
top
dollar or anything even near the perimeter of top dollar. Why might you
ask? Due to the impracticality of such an undertaking. There is a
possibility that a VAR might do so only to further garnish their
relationship with the Vendor, but I still feel that it is unlikely.
Secondly, what in your humble/honest opinion do you perceive a CCIE with
no
work experience is worth? Be honest, be truthful. This may be a
difficult
concept to face but reality tells me after being in this biz my entire
adult
life that a person with this certification and no practical experience
is an
entry level person who shows promise and got lucky.

My two cents,

How can I detect an ATM link went down?

Due to business reason, we are in a process to replace old Frame Relay
connections with ATM connections. But when Carrier's ATM network had
problem
and one of the ATM link went down, the router interface attached to it
still
shows up up. For that reason the ISDN backup interface on the same
router
wouldn't automatically dial the remote end, and we couldn't meet 7x24
requirement.

There was no such problem before switching to ATM. It works perfectly
with
FR connections and ISDN DDR Backup. If there was a problem in one of the
FR
links, the interface attached to it will go down and the ISDN interface
will
automatically dial the remote end.

Is there any way to get around this problem?

Thanks in advance.

RE: NAT [7:33769]

2002-01-30 Thread Circusnuts_1999

John it's hard to say much without a config. When you look @ the
config, just make sure it has the key parts:

interface Ethernet0/0
 ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
 ip nat inside
 full-duplex
!
interface Ethernet0/1
 ip address x.x.x.x x.x.x.x
 ip nat outside
 full-duplex
 no cdp enable
!
ip nat pool x.x.x.x x.x.x.x netmask x.x.x.x
ip nat inside source list 1 pool overload
!
access-list 1 permit 10.1.1.0 0.0.0.255

Keep in mind the x.x.x.x x.x.x.x in the ip nat pool, is the range of
your NAT pool and of course the netmask runs accordingly. If you notice
the overload statement, this allows you to continue with port address
translation when the IP depletes.

All the best !!!
Phil

RE: Internet Router? [7:33639]

2002-01-29 Thread Circusnuts_1999

I was under the impression full Internet route tables required 128 Megs
of RAM, with 256 as the target build. The 7206s have up to 512 RAM
available in the NPE, as does the Juniper M5 (just to give a few good
examples of Internet routers). I have not fitted an Internet router in
@ least 6 months, but the last time I looked we were up to 120,000
prefixes on the net. The 3640 can definitely handle the T-1 traffic
you're describing, but with BGP as the solution, I think you may want
something like a 3660 or 7204. I believe the max upgrade for the 3640
it 128 and the 3660 is 256 (don't quote me :o) Also- the 3660 enters in
a little more redundancy, unless you had planned to 3640s.

Subject: Internet Router? [7:33639]

Hello Everybody,

I just want to run this by everyone for their input from experience.

Scenario:
I'm looking for a Cisco router that will be providing Internet
connectivity
running BGP and that will be able to handle the capacity of 2 PTP T1's
to
the Internet. I know minimum RAM will have to be 64mbs for BGP routes. I
just want to know what people have tried that does and doesn't work.

My choice would be a 3640 for future T1 expandability and/or a HSSI
port.

Thank you for the input.

I
can say that the most popular software program out there for firewall
was
Black Ice Defender. If you want to get a decent hardware solution
Linksys
makes some very affordable Cable router/firewall combos that do NAT.

Hope that helps.

RE: cisco 26xxx to run 8mbps [7:32628]

2002-01-20 Thread Circusnuts_1999

Ask your carrier this question and they will want to sell you a DS3 with
say a minimum of a 7 Meg port charge (a lot of US carriers move in 7 Meg
intervals and I don't know why). That would make your wants and needs
an ATM capable router and DS3 (minus IMA) is pretty much entry level
ATM. I thought the 2600 accepted DS3 interfaces, I know a 3600 would
work, but the question becomes an up-time issue. Most customers
wouldn't baulk @ having to install a loaded 7206 VXR to support a 6K
monthly connection and all the priceless traffic it can carry.

All the best !!!

hi all

thanks for all the comments and tips given by some of

8mbps traffic . If this is so what is the min cisco
router that supports 8mbps and what interface this
router will need?

RE: Upgrading a 2502 via the console port? [7:31899]

2002-01-14 Thread Circusnuts_1999

The 2502 doesn't have rommon, but uses boot mode (supported by the ROM
version). The 25xx routers are generally fixed interface and must be
upgraded through these fixed interfaces. Your 2502 of course can be
upgraded via Token or Serial. Have you tried making a peer router a
TFTP Server ??? You can either download 2500 code onto any extra FLASH
memory of the adjacent router (I use a 4500M as my TFTP server in the
lab) becoming or use the same IOS image off of another 2500 using the
TFTP Server command.

All the best !!!

Is there a way to upgrade the ios on a 2502 router via the console port?
I have used the xmodem -c command on a 2600 and a 3600 series

Has anyone had success on a 2500 TR router?

Thank you.

RE: 4500 flash upgrade problem [7:31042]

2002-01-06 Thread Circusnuts_1999

I'd say defective FLASH. The 4500's are pretty forgiving. I have
installed 2500 and 3600 series in a pinch, with no repercussions.

Take turns removing each 8 Meg stick. It may just be one of them.
Don't lose heart, 4500 series FLASH is very cheap right now. I think I
paid around 14.99 for (2) 8 Meg sticks on Ebay last month.

Other than that the router was able to boot to 'router (boot) ' prompt.
